« Trump is truly not normal. I’m trying not to be cruel here, but it’s not exactly breaking new ground to say that he seems to lack for something innately human: the basic capacity to internalize other people’s pain. As president, Trump never betrayed remorse or apologized, never seemed to take personally the 800,000 Americans who died of covid-19 on his watch. Tragedy breeds in him only defiance. Trump’s motto might be: “Don’t worry, be angry.” »
— Matt Bai at the Washington Post.
What delusion makes tens of millions of Americans want to vote for such a monster? Trump is weird – and in a very dangerous and inhuman way.
Matt Bai mentioned Covid-19. Don't let people forget Trump's disastrous response to the pandemic.

«Here I turn again to the late Neil Postman, whose classic critique of mid-80s culture Amusing Ourselves to Death, is as relevant today as it was then. In his foreword, Postman compared Orwell’s vision of fascist repression with the trivial, substanceless society envisioned by Aldous Huxley in his 1932 novel Brave New World.     In Huxley’s vision, Postman wrote, “no Big Brother is required to deprive people of their autonomy, maturity and history. As he saw it, people will come to love their oppression, to adore the technologies that undo their capacities to think.”     It’s worth hearing a bit more of Postman’s comparison: “What Orwell feared were those who would ban books. What Huxley feared was that there would be no reason to ban a book, for there would be no one who wanted to read one. ... Orwell feared that truth would be concealed from us. Huxley feared that truth would be drowned in a sea of irrelevance.”     As it happens, in 1949, just after the publication of 1984, Huxley drew much the same contrast in a letter to his countryman Orwell. Much as he liked Orwell’s book, he suggested that tyrannical governments would soon abandon “boot-on-the-face” tactics in favor of “animal magnetism and hypnotism.” Cable TV had yet to be invented.»
— Matt Bai, Trump is not Orwellian: He is the Distractor-in-Chief.

CONTEXT: A fan asked, "what is your dream role you haven't played yet?" Charlie answered that 'Daredevil' is definitely a dream role and unsure if it would get better than this and hoped "long may it continue.' Vincent decided to chime in.

« I can attest to the idea that tech companies behave nothing like traditional journalism outlets. They’re run by engineers who might as well be wiring your house for cable or fixing your water main for all they care about the quality of information you consume online. »
— Columnist Matt Bai at the Washington Post. (archived)
Good analogy. No matter how good your electrician or plumber may be, would you consider them regular and reliable sources for news outside their professional fields?
Facebook and the others make money by sharing your eyeballs with advertisers – not by providing trustworthy information.
A disproportionate percentage of Republicans get their news primarily from social media. That tells us a lot about how they form their worldviews.
We need to support credible free news media like public broadcasters NPR, the BBC, the CBC, or Australia's ABC.
At one time most people got reasonably accurate news from free media on TV and radio. The internet has scrambled the media landscape – so far in a chaotic way.
People who spend lots of time on free social media are having their views shaped by digital oligarchs who have no interest in accuracy or responsibility. Indeed, some of those oligarchs have political agendas which are self-serving and promote fringe worldviews.
So support for remaining free credible news media is essential as they navigate their way through the changing informational terrain.
For now, question the credibility of dubious items which people tell you about which they see on social media. Successfully debunking something provides you with credibility you can then use to cast doubt on additional dubious items.

"Have you got any bright ideas?" she questions.
"I'm thinking, I'm thinking..." he's rambling, the eyes focused on the crowd circling them.
"You better think of something fast, because if he turns me into a mummy, you're the first one I'm coming after." Karen declared with her voice trembling, she turned her head to look at Frank for what it could be her last time ever looking at him.
Karen Page, a librarian and aspiring Egyptologist, and Foggy Nelson, her best friend and an excellent lawyer, usually have drinks together in one of the best — according to Foggy himself — bars in town: Josie's Place. On a friday night, the two friends found themselves in the middle of a bar fight and after hiding behind one the tables, Karen is quick to realize an intricate box fell from the pocket of one of the fighters and takes it for herself before even thinking twice.
She only got a glimpse of his face, yet she remembers him too well.
When she finds the map of Hamunaptra inside the box, Karen convinces Foggy to go along with her to find the mysterious man. They find ex-military Frank Castle in a local prison and Karen makes a deal with him to lead them to the City of the Dead if she gets him released, he agrees.
It wasn't in Frank's plan go back to Hamunaptra, although a certain blonde Egyptologist makes it hard to not go back to the place he once served alongside The French Foreign Legion. So when Karen accidentally wakes up a 3000 year old mummy who begins to wreak havoc in searching for the reincarnation of his long-lost love, Frank's got no other choice than to stop the terror and save Karen in the process.
