Housekeeping Updates

- New avatar - @zachbrightside and I updated our FOP sonas. Tossed the headcanon'd honorary pixie hat on mine! :) Shout-out to that one kid in "School of Crock" who wore this hat with no explanation. And squared my gal's wings! Experimented with pink and purple hair options, but I like the brown too much to change.

- Fixed all broken masterpost links - Checked 3 or 4 times, so let me know if you find something wrong.

- Added things to the masterpost that weren't there (Ex: Art section)

- Combed through every post and changed the bullet point system so they're easier to read, following format update from several years ago that condensed the spacing between bulleted items.

-> As part of this, I've used indents and dashes in place of bullets in many posts. I've also added periods on otherwise blank lines to force blank space, as the blank space is another thing we lost during that format update.

-> This is so posts will look better on the dashboard. The dots may seem odd when viewed directly on the blog, but it definitely makes it easier to not lose my place while editing long posts. Also, they should be more readable now than they would be if they're reblogged to others' dashboards without this change.

- I combed through the short bios and long profiles and divided paragraphs more. There were many bulky paragraphs that have now been divided in a way that should make posts - especially these big profiles - easier to read.

-> Cleaned the "Appearances" sections of the long profiles. They used to list each 'fic that character is in, but now they have a labeled AO3 link to works written by me that include that character. Sleek, clean, and automatically updates!

- Shout-out to me having Dale Dimmadome already down as one of H.P. and Sanderson's past godkids 5+ years ago. I knew that was my headcanon, but I did not remember that was on his profile and I'm glad it was, haha... oh no. I don't know what my plan is for that in light of New Wish, but I'll figure it out.

- Changed posts that called my canon Riddleverse Classic to say Cloudlands AU, since that's the new name for my series. Left the name Riddleverse for posts that encompass multiple AUs.

-> Updated my Icebreaker post with this and other new info

- Deleted any posts tagged as "Delete later"

- I have a lot of long profiles and other posts saved to my drafts from years ago. Once Tumblr shifted to the new format (including with the queue), it became so distressing and ever-changing that I struggled a lot to find my footing.

Ex: They took away line dividers, which I thought was frustrating since I used those on my long posts and found them helpful. I was holding out hope they'd return. - Some posts (like my wing refs and the giant 20k-word class overviews) kept getting flagged if I edited them, and I was worried I'd lose my stuff or have the account deleted - Back then, the queue would only tell me which day of the week something was posting, not which month or day. It was just overwhelming to create a schedule or keep track of my stuff, so I took a break from Tumblr in general.

These days, I'm much more comfortable with the editor and my queue is now more specific about deadlines. I look forward to posting here again!

I won't be on a schedule, and the big character profiles do take a lot out of me, but my plan back in the day was to release one a month. Might be able to get to there! If not, maybe the short bios.

Future of this FOP Sideblog

- More worldbuilding posts! I let this blog sit a long time because I felt like I'd said all my worldbuilding and the only thing to do now was profiles and bios (which I was reluctant to prioritize when I felt "behind" in my 'fics).

However, I found some things I'd never moved to this blog, such as my notes on aging. I'd like to post that and others I found.

- No longer hesitant about sharing stuff for "weird" characters or OCs. I had a post about celebrity kids (Poof's age and younger) that I never posted because I didn't think anyone would care about my headcanons for Simon Sparklefield (who only appears in one obscure episode I don't count as fully canon anyway) or Billy Crystal Ball (also obscure) but... Hey, that's why you're here, isn't it? So let's talk celebrities!

In other words, I'd like to bring this blog back as the unapologetic place to share my FOP things. We have references to canon characters and talk of OCs (like Hadley, Emery, Whistle, Soren, China, Anti-Saffron, Kalysta, Iris, Idona... List goes on.)

- This blog will have more polished fanart than the doodles from my main blog

- Polished 'fic cover images will be reblogged here. By this, I mean the posts I do on my main blog that outline what to expect from a 'fic. I won't reblog my general chapter announcements; I don't want to flood this blog with those.

- 130 Reasons Why I'm Fairy Trash's cover will be reblogged, but the posts for individual trains won't be. - Existing cover images will get new, polished posts for their 'fics before I reblog them here.

- I went through the blog and added the tag "Cloudlands AU" to many posts, apart from a few I'm still hesitant to edit (or where it didn't seem worth noting). Cloudlands AU refers to my lore for the 11 seasons of the main series (i.e. including the "Oh Yeah!" shorts), and this is what my sideblog was meant for.

- The reason for this new tag is to separate it from City Lights AU: my new AO3 series for works about New Wish. These works are not compliant with Cloudlands AU, which was designed years ago.

Ex: Peri and Irep will get a short bio on this blogged tagged as City Lights AU to explain what we're setting up for their characters over there, distinct from the existing short bio for Poof and Foop in Cloudlands AU (who are very well established in their arcs). In other words, I'm not rewriting Cloudlands AU canon to fit with A New Wish, but I still want to write works for New Wish. Expect bios and art for Hazel and Dev here someday (and others).

The next thing I post will be Hadley's full character profile (now with updates that are compliant with A New Wish).

After that, I'll reblog my Cloudlands AU and City Lights AU guides to this blog so they'll be under their tags and on the masterlist.

When that's all done, I'd like to knock out full character profiles for Dale, Dev, and Hazel when I can (in addition to finishing my drafts for Cosmo, Wanda, Poof, and Foop). Long, slow process, but it would be cool to have those things done by the end of 2024 or early 2025.

Feeling decent about my idea for Hazel's birthdate. I have nice options for Dev, but no commitment until Zach and I nail down where "Operation: Birthday Takeback" goes in our New Wish timeline. Enjoying the process so far! -> Dev's b-day is QUITE the toss-up between options like "National Day of Unplugging," "Plant a Lemon Tree Day," and the absolutely golden combo of "Pizza Party & Virtual Assistants Day." And perhaps others we've not investigated!

I think that's everything! Hopefully, this is the last "blog news" announcement we have for a while, and the blog can return to being a landing spot for fanart and story meta.

Verona Mae Atwood (Sona Info Post)

So this is my sona, Verona. Pronouns they/she. 15 years old. More below the cut.

One thing you should know about me before I begin is that I like nice detailed, dramatic backstories. Be warned.

Anyway, Verona is the daughter of two nobles who are in some considerable debt but pretend like they aren’t. They’re terrible parents (as is the R&J quid pro quo). They’re terrible parents try to marry Verona off many times for money, including sending them to Frankie’s ball to try to win his hand. Obviously, this plan doesn’t pan out, but when she’s getting a new dress for the ball, Verona meets Hermia (@writingnotes520) and they become fast friends on the way to Paris. At the ball, Verona introduces Hermia to Claudius (@kittycatsfromzolar), who is a friend from the nobility world. Verona is a character, not a player, so the othered have to pretend they know nothing of the real world either.

After the ball, Verona’s parents manage to successfully get her engaged. They run away—or they try to, at least. Upon asking a friendly carriage driver (wink wink) to take them to Italy, he gets a feeling and decides to take her to the Du Bois palace instead (the whole gang is there (game night)) to ask Anne what to do, since he realizes that she’s a character and not a player. Anne has no idea where she came from, but she sees Verona in all of their fifteen y/o mentally ill glory and tells Will that she should stay with them. Will is outvoted by the gang and Verona stays, to her initial disappointment.

(They grow on Will soon enough—Verona’s a writer, after all.)

Anyway I have more nonbackstory stories, but the most important things to know regarding the sketch above are that the Du Bois’ personal tailor created their outfit; the vest acts as a very efficient binder; the blue bracelet is from Frankie; the pink one (that I will recreate irl soon) is from Juliet; the black, white, and yellow one is from Romeo; the rings are from May; the necklace, pen, and notebook are from Will (and maybe Anne too idk); and the red and purple one is obviously Verona and Hermia’s friendship bracelet.

Finally, I am SO sorry about the shoes. They looked so good in the sketch idk what happened 😭 here, have this as compensation:

I heard you mention pooltoyification. Do you have any examples? Im very curious about the pooltoy gender\sexuality stuff I think you talk about (not super familiar with your blog). Are there artists or more written thing? I've not come across nsfw pool stuff i think.

pooltoyification is like a transformation thing that a surprising number of people (including me!) are into. you know pooltoys-- the plasticky rubber vinyl floaties that people hang out on and in when theyre at the pool or the lake. now really think about them-- maybe one in particular from your childhood-- god, isnt the texture of them wonderful? so smooth, bouncy, so light that you could easily pick a large one up with just one paw but firm, too, inflated to be large and cutely rounded. the way that they shine in the sun, especially when theyre wet; their seams that connect them together, often causing their bodies to adorably crimp at the side; the fact that many of them are transparent, even slightly so, allowing you to see all the way through them; their thin, soft vinyl being broken up by only two things, gorgeous handles built-in to their bodies for people to grab at them, carry them, use them, and their hard plastic nozzle that people often blow directly into. god, don't you just want to be that? soft, shiny, squeaky, with beautiful handles and a silly demeanor and light as a feather but big enough to hug, hold, and ride on? to be seen as a toy, an object, to be inflated or deflated by your friends at will? i know i do. the idea of that is like peak sensory to me, and the sexual objectification it comes with is pretty wonderful too.

in my experience theres a pretty vast amount of pooltoy art and pooltoy artists, i tend to post mine on the "pooltoy" tag on tumblr, but theres plenty especially once you start following the right people. i havent seen as much pooltoy writing or smut, but id love to, i just havent. im sure its out there too.

if this post makes anyone want to be a pooltoy, you should pooltoyify your sona! or make a new pooltoy fursona all your own. its a wonderful practice and has not only made me so happy in general but also is a great way to show your friends how to roleplay/sext with you in fun ways. like whenever i post another pooltoy yoshi fursona art, many of my coolest friends tend to message me about what a cute good little yoshi pooltoy i am. its frankly wonderful. sqrk.

Okay okay back with more Bandit questions and observations now!!! Hi!!! First off, what's the model of his gun? Literally just curious, really doesn't mean anything unless I feel like drawing it lmao. Secondly, what's his thoughts on the people in power/the guardians + the queen (I'm lumping the Judge into the guardians)? You said he won't work when he can survive well on his own, but does his dislike stretch out to even wishing harm on the guardians? Actually, does he know if a guardian dies, their Zone dies, too? How knowledgeable is he on the world of OFF's lore and how it functions?? Thirdly, does he have any friends I should know about? You drew him interacting with Project Goldfinch/Just Finch to break up the text in my first ask, what's their relationship? Does Bandit scam him to hell and back, or do they just casually chat every now and then? Fourthly, I VERY BRIEFLY checked out Ask Bandit and here are some observations I made: Uno, how come you ship him with Red from Animal Crossing? Is it cuz they both steal and resell?? If so, that's hilarious and I love your sense of humor. Dos, when drawing him with Elsen 7 I did not know Bandit currently resides in Zone Three, because 7 lives in Zone One. This whole time I was under the impression he travels through Zones for some reason lol? I guess that's my curse of having a handful of ECU Elsen that do that themselves lmao. Last but not least, not something Ask Bandit related, just generally speaking, would you like to see any future doodles I make of Bandit, whether he's interacting with my own OCs or otherwise? I modeled Bandit's gun after a Glock?? Kinda?? I didn't really reference a specific model, more like loosely inspired. I probably should create a prop-reference for it, but I haven't yet.

Bandit's dislike for authority does not stretch to wanting to take out the guardians. It would be counter-intuitive to his role as a merchant to kill off his customers by killing off the guardians. Bandit cares too much about profit, and although the guardians are annoying, without them he wouldn't have profit.

Bandit is fully aware on how the world of OFF works, it's inner workings, and other meta things.

Bandit will say anyone is his friend, even if they clearly hate him. Louis would be the only one that would truly think of Bandit as a friend (except maybe my elsen-sona, but they're a mary-sue type oc and should probably not be counted if we're talking in-universe/story lol)

As Finch is the protagonist in my game concept, Bandit will be the merchant selling them items. Finch is distrusting of Bandit, but sees him as a necessity in their mission. I do have an idea where Bandit does steal something from Finch to propel the plot, but who knows if that'll stay in the final lol

Bandit x Redd is a joke ship created by @brandy-elsen (tagging the account it was posted on and not your current account because I do not wanna waste a tag on this I am sorry Brandy AHHSGFG). All the credits to her for the comedic genius. I think you guessed right as to why that ship exists tho. I just drew it for that post because it met the "two pieces of fanart" criteria I set.

Bandit travels the zones, your initial assumption was right. He is only in Zone 3 on the askbandit blog because of the story being told on there. He's gotta refill his stock of sugar manually since sugar happens to be one of the things he cannot magically pull from his pack.

I would love to see future doodles you make of Bandit! I like collecting all the fanart I get and posting it (with credits/links) to his gallery on toyhouse.

Pokemon story/art/ask-blog for Benta the Mewtwo

Set in an apocalyptic future where most humans have disappeared and only pokemon remain. And the world is not as it had once been.

Benta, a pokemon who has existed for a long time now, has wandered the crumbling cities and empty roads looking for others who might share his ideals of rebuilding what is left of the world. Perhaps even track down the humans, if there are any left. However, the pokemon all seem to be at odds, more focused on hoarding land and food for survival. Many more are feral and vicious.

As others may find out, he is no ordinary mewtwo, and he might very well be the only one of his kind in a world full of ghosts. But is he the only wanderer? Or are there others?

And is it possible to save this future?

WHO AM I?

I'm a silly little creature who enjoys doing all sorts of things, but I mainly focus on visual art, writing and creating super cool AUs and OCs! I've been drawing since 2007 and I've been posting my works on the internet since 2018 (you can still find all my old animations and speedpaints on YouTube)

Some other hobbies I have include photography and collecting bones, dead insects and other miscellaneous nature doodads. I also began coding this year!

Brief rundown of my activity on the internet: Like I already mentioned, I first began posting on Youtube (2018-2020). During that I also started posting on Deviantart (2018-2020), Amino (2018-2021), Sony Sketch (2019), Pinterest (2019-2025) and Instagram (2018-2024). I stopped posting on Deviantart and Amino after I no longer felt interested, Sony Sketch after it got deleted (rest in piss </3), Pinterest after my account got deleted this year and Instagram after I realised how terrible it is in so many ways. I've used Instagram for the longest time, but in 2021 I, for the first time, feared I would have to leave it (there was some anti-artist algorithm shenanigans going on). And so I created this Tumblr account, and trough these past few years I've grown attached to this place. I'm currently planning on adding all my artworks on my website, but I'll still keep posting here!

Missionaries of Eden AU / MOE AU (The Fairly OddParents)

Unofficially known as the "Bible AU", MOE AU is a mature take on the sequel series "The Fairly OddParents: A New Wish" from the perspective of Peri Fairywinkle-Cosma, an angel and a loyal follower of God. Similarly to the original series, his mission is to bring joy and the gospel of his people to his assigned child, Dev Dimmadome. Peri is determined to succeed in his task and to make him happy, however he soon notices the cracks in the Dimmadome family, and before he even realises it, he has fallen down a deep rabbit hole of pain and trauma. But maybe there's still hope, if he so chooses

The AU has become a story about family, self-identity, trauma, recovery, acceptance and letting go of the things that harm you and those you love. It will be told though comics, and I even might start working on them soon!

Shared Humanity AU (Thomas the Tank Engine)

Weird bodyhorror-like AU where I tried to make the sentient trains make sense, with the main focus obviously being on my favorite TTTE ship, James × Edward

To explain the lore further, my idea was that there was a species of large bilateral animal called "the Siberian flesh worm", which would inject its substance into a victim (a mammal), that would slowly start to change the victim's DNA and make it into a hybrid between the worm and the mammal's species. So all the trains were previously human, but then they got infected, and once infected they went to seek a dark hiding place to hibernate. I'm unsure how the humans got into the trains, but eventually all their organs, muscles and other were twisted so that they were able to control the train. After a while, Edward found out about this and started researching it more. Eventually, with a group of researchers (including other trains), they found a way to remove the organic body from the inorganic train. They did this with all trains willing to participate, and they were allowed to live the rest of their lives as regular people (the change in their DNA had made them live longer)

I don't remember what happened in it exactly, other than White Diamond might have been infected with some kind of mold that slowly corrupted her until the end of SU season 5 when he fleds Home Word There's probably more info on Instagram in the descriptions of my artworks

Unnamed biblical Rainbow Quest AU

Rainbow Quest, but everybody turns into angels in the afterlife (?)

Unnamed Moomin AU

Status: INDEFINITE HIATUS Created: 2022(?)

The Moomin AU is like regular Moomins but with Too-ticky being the main focus. The AU explores the character's wild past and her crazy future and invludes also many headcanons (like her being bear-like and being born in the US. The rest of the events are still located in Finland, but to any Moomin fan that shouldn't come as a surprise)

Unnamed Minecraft (creepypasta) AU

Status: INDEFINITE HIATUS Created: 2022(?)

The Minecraft AU focuses on Herobrine, a demigod with moose features being able to control storms and lightning. After being defeated and killed - for what people thought was for the last time - his reign of terror quickly faded. When he eventually gets resurrected and sees how he has fallen from his former glory, he goes on a quest to find new purpose in life (I'm starting to see a pattern with me redeeming morally questionable/bad characters...)

Project: IYKYK bts, Spoilers Beware if you even care lol. Rambles about the general project, if you want specific characters/songs look in the tag

Okay so plans are, an over arching story broken up into little stories. The videos can be viewed independently and still be entertaining, I think I have 2 songs per character, at least you can watch just the character and get their story.

ALSO! Each character has a specific style, art style, style of video to tell the story, and maybe they show up in the other styles as well when there is cross overs :3

As of right now, there are 4 characters (5 if you include myself, but there's not really a story there more just an intro and outro to the series. These vids will probably be confusing and maybe not that interesting but whatever XD Idc)

Each character does in fact tie in with one another!! even if it's in weird round about ways and sometimes won't be shown on screen and is just a tidbit for me to know :P

I pulled all the designs from my old Sonas and Oc's (That are basically self inserts at this point), for reasons. (Look it's basically me telling my life story through fiction to keep it somewhat detached) Though they're getting vague make overs and story revamps. I also pulled these specific characters as representations for specific points in my life, the original creation date and the mental state I was in during those times.

I tried to choose songs that resonated with me and I listen to a lot, but I had to scratch a bunch of songs, and find some new ones I've never listened to. But it worked out and I found new songs I like! Was originally gonna have a lot more Brightside Album songs by the Lumineers and Tame Impala songs but it did not work out. I'm just glad I was able to get 1 brightside song in there. Even if it sounds vaguely out of place. The playlist may change overtime too as I flesh out these stories more.

While I work on the videos, I am planning on making still pieces to go along with the stories. Thumnails, posters, just like scenes in general. Whatever pops into my head. Though thinking about it posters would be cool af. Also I have more experience making still pieces that moving ones. But my brain works in movement so weird balance I have to walk.

The styles I came up with will probably be more bare bone for the video parts, just to save time and my sanity XD

Basically this entire project is for me to strengthen my redesigning and writing muscles. As well as bring a piece of work to completion that is completely my own. AND work through my own problems or i guess, release myself from them. It's my final send off to that chapter of my life. Two birds one stone :) Or should I say mountain cause this really is a huge project (in comparison to what I've done in the past) INTRO/OUTRO: Intro song: Pyramid Song by Radiohead

Introduces moi, starts in reality to a dream state, from here it introduces the main sonas and situations briefly, with hints that these people are in fact representations of myself.

Concludes the story arc, leaving the fantasy of these events behind to face the reality of these events. To be myself, and not hide behind fiction and convoluted metaphors of my own emotions. Waking up from that dream.

Anywhere’s good to start I guess, so I started with Sona. Obviously. (And also, I know myself and I needed a warmup. So Sona’s took the longest and looks the worst as a result pfft)

But here are my notes:

Sona (All Wild Rift Models) - All of Sona’s models are basically the same as far as her face, her skin, etc. Her anatomy/texture isn’t drastically altered, in HIGH contrast at League models... as you can see in PsyOps below it. But anyway. Sona’s eyes in WR are kind of unique in her history of design because they went full droopy eye. Her outer corners sink down both on the top and bottom lash lines, for a very soft-eyed, gentle character effect. That’s typically what this sort of design is meant to convey in short-hand for anime/manga design (there will always be exceptions), but it’s also worth noting that this sort of “look” also seems to be very popular for Chinese beauty standard stuff. More on that later.

Sona (PsyOps) - And HERE we see the stark contrast. PsyOps Sona doesn’t exist in WR (yet) so I’m curious what will happen when or if she ever gets put there, because these eyes convey a lot for the type of character she is in this AU. Instead of being droopy, they are upturned and sharp. The lower lash line is thicker at the slope going up. Very heavy eyes. Very shrewd. It wouldn’t work for this skin if she had the same droopy eyes as WR.

Master Yi (Eternal/Possibly base?) - This was tricky for me. I’m still learning to draw Asian eyes, and in particular I struggle conveying the fullness of the lower lid. Such is the case for Yi, as he has lovely lower lids, but I’m shit at conveying them properly. Instead I focused on the eye shape itself, which was also a bit tricky. The WR model goes extra hard, I feel, on making him aesthetically Chinese (in the sense of the wuxia sort of pretty man ideal). Which makes sense! His eyes are roundest at the top, in the middle, with sharp almond corners. Simple but elegant and uncomplicated.

Master Yi (PsyOps) - Now things get complicated. Remembering PsyOps Yi’s face stuck in my head as so DRASTICALLY different (and the only other skin, except Project if you count that, where we even see his face at all) I had to look it up and cross-ref with other media. Mainly concept art. It’s interesting how... anime? I guess? The design goes. His eyes here are immediately harsher, bigger, wider. The bags hang heavy underneath, and yet there’s this weird youthfulness to his eyes. I think they really should have tried to make him look older, but that’s, like, my opinion maaaan. I should also not that despite this design being more “anime”, the design itself combined with how he looks overall in this skin strikes me as very oddly “American”. His eye bags, the weight of his brows above his eyes (which I convey at the corners), such strong and prominent features just kinda tag me that way I guess.

Additional thoughts:

We all know by now that Wild Rift was created very specifically for the Chinese mobile game market, which is apparently booming. I’m not Chinese, or even Asian for that matter, but I think it’s easy even as an outsider, and maybe especially as someone with an artist’s eye, to see that there are design choices at play specifically meant to appeal to a Chinese/Asian audience. Censorship is one place to start, sure. But as I briefly touched on before with Sona’s eyes and her overall “look” in Wild Rift compared to her other League media, there are many Asian-centric aesthetic choices being made here.

And that’s not to say a “westerner” can’t enjoy the style or imply anything like that. It’s just worth pointing out, perhaps for anyone who’s unaware of it, that things tend to be marketed very differently for “eastern” and “western” consumers. Particularly in the world of video games.

You may often see things in interviews saying how a particular character was meant to appeal to a sort of demographic. It’s nothing new, but these aesthetic appeals haven’t really changed much, if at all, in probably over a decade.

So to make a long story short, it’s pretty interesting to me to observe Wild Rift’s aesthetic changes to appeal to a Chinese audience, and see the same tropes being followed as usual. Base Sona/Yi vs PsyOps Sona/Yi are pretty excellent examples of contrast. PsyOps, from a pure design standpoint, feels to me to be very “western” appealing. Examples: the characters are aggressive and gritty, there’s a lack of color overall, strong grays and a military motif, there’s guns and bullets. Do you see what I mean?

The “western” appeal tends to focus more on grit, violence, sharp lines and edges, darker colors. Is this universal? No, of course not. And honestly I’m hardly qualified to talk into any deeper a depth on the subject. It’s just interesting to think about while looking at vastly different designs, and how these designs are being changed, and why they are being changed. There is always a plan behind these things, especially when it’s art made for a purpose (i.e. making money for a vidya game).

Chapter two: Don't lose your head

As sad as it sounds Alastair often thought that lies were everywhere. 

There was no escape from them. His mother lies. Layla. His father. Charles. His so-called friends. The Clave. Alastair probably was the biggest liar of them all. 

His relationships were all about lies. He lied his mother and sister. He and his mother lied to Cordelia. Even his affair with Charles revolved around lies and secrets.

Alastair looked at his lover who dressed. Charles said that he can't stay for the night and now he was leaving, to return to his full of politics world. That was all he thought about actually - his career.

Alastair often wondered what happened with them. At first it was new. Exciting. Alive. Alastair believed with all his heart that he was in love. Then it was just... nice. Stolen nights here and there, even a few days together. Several hours a day maybe. 

Now he didn't know what it was. But he felt that Charles was far from him. It wasn't that something definite has changed. But rather Alastair began to notice things that firstly just bothered him a little but which now were huge issues for him. 

Like how Charles almost never tells him where he goes. Or the way he often made decisions for both of them without asking. How he always expected Alastair to be there for him but rarely was there for Alastair. His almost two-year engagement with Ariadne. Alastair was so sick of all this.

And he couldn't help but question himself: if their love was like this from the very beginning, was it actually love in the first place? Wasn't love supposed to send you high? To be more selfless? To be more... truthful? Because this love had started to feel like another lie in Alastair's life. 

“Will you be at the ball tomorrow?” asked Alastair while Charles was straightening his shirt collar.

“Maybe,” said his lover. “But I'm not sure. There is unusual demon activity in South London that is bothering the Clave and there will be a meeting about it. I want to show my skills there.”

Alastair felt such a strong annoyance that he surprised himself. Charles always talked about this. To show everyone his best qualities. How good he was. How he could handle every situation. 

You will go there to show your abilities again, Alastair thought. But you won't be beside me in the first event I am, in this new town where neither me nor my family don't know almost anybody. You won't be there when I need you. Again.

Alastair guessed there was something in his gaze because Charles stoped dressing for a moment and looked at him.

“What's wrong with you?” He rised an eyebrow.

“Nothing,” Alastair said sharply. “I'm just so happy for you.” Vexation dripped from his mouth.

Charles looked at him irritatinly.

“By the angel, Alastair,” he said. “You are so moody lately. Calm down. Everything I do is so you and I can be together.”

Alastair closed his eyes for a moment.

Lies. Sweet lies that Charles knew Alastair wanted to hear. Or maybe Charles also believed it? Who knows. But this was a broken promise even before the words to came out of his mouth.

Don't lose your head, he told himself. 

“Good,” Alastair said coldly. “You can leave now.”

Charles was already with his coat put on. He glared at him.

“Are you irritated? Really?” he snorted. “I just can't attend one event. It's not a big deal.”

“Didn't you say that you can't stay tonight?” Alastair looked right into his eyes. “Then go.”

For one long moment everything was quiet. They looked at each other intensely. Alastair held his breath, looking at his lover. Charles was fully dressed, ready to leave but was frozen in place. Alastair held the sheets below him so hard that his hands ached. 

He wanted Charles to stay so badly. 

“Just this one time,” Charles whispered.

Lies, lies, lies.

He turned and after a few seconds the door was quietly closed after him.

Alastair closed his eyes to stop the tears.

The next morning at breakfast, Cordelia looked at him while drinking her tea. Alastair knew she wanted to know what was bothering him but he looked away. Layla was already too concerned about their father. Alastair wanted to protect her by it but his efforts were pointless. But that didn't mean he had to add his problems to her's.

“Alastair joon,” Sona stopped him after breakfast. “Are you alright?”

Alastair's heart ached.

“There are nothing to worry, Mâmân,” Alastair assured her. “Just couldn't sleep well.”

His mother gave him worried look.

“The ball is after a few hours, darling. Are you sure you're fine?”

“Yes,” he said immediately. He didn't want to worry his mother. She was exhausted enough by all this drama with Father. They all were. “I'm fine.”

After this she and Layla went to choose a dress for his sister. Alastair went straight to his room. He sat in front of his desk and put few papers. 

He had thought about this all night after Charles left. It hurt. Really hurt. But Alastair decided it the moment Charles turned his back to him that night. He wasn't sure what to say in the letter. He had a feeling that if he starts to write what bothered him about Charles' actions he wouldn't stop. And probably would find new ones. So he tried to keep it simple. It took him three or four drafts but finally the letter was good enough. What was important was there, with no fancy words and fake promises.

Alastair wrote many things in the letter but most important was maybe that he said to Charles this is over. Their romantic relationship was over. He wasn't sure he wanted to had any sort relationships with him anymore but this was enough for now.

Alastair was hurt but he also felt relieved. He was free of one of his lies.

He sealed the letter and call one servant to send it to Charles' house. He looked at the clock on the wall. The ball was soon.

Sona, Layla and him were in the carriage, almost at the Institute. 

“London is so beautiful. I can't decide what we should see first. I'm sure the Herondales can recommend what to see,” Cordelia said, smiling at the buildings they were passing. “I can't wait to see Lucie,” added a little bit quieter but even more excited.

“You said this ten minutes ago,” Alastair rolled his eyes. “And you met her yesterday.”

“Yes, but it was for a while because it was already night when we arrived in London,” she frowned at him.

Alastair opened his mouth to answer but didn't have the chance.

“Children,” Sona said impatiently. “Stop it already. We are here.”

When the Carstairs entered the ballroom, Alastair felt already bored. He didn't like this sort of events. Too much people talking about too much pointless things.

He didn't even made an effort to look for Charles. He knew he wasn't here.

Tessa Herondale introduced them from group to group. He remembered only half of them. At the end they stopped. His mother started a conversation with Gabriel and Cecily Lightwood. Cordelia chatted with the girl beside them. Alastair wasn't paying much attention though. He didn't want to be here but it was important.

“Who’s the boy dancing with Lucie?” Cordelia asked.

“Ah, this is my brother.”

Even before she could finnish Alastair turned and searched the dance floor. This was Barbara Lightwood, by the angel, how could not think that her brother would be here. There were many people he didn't know, dancing and laughing, some of them in groups, talking. But there weren't many people over 1.90 meters high. And he found him. Sandy hair, hazel eyes and broad shoulders. 

Thomas Lightwood.

Alastair felt like someone kicked him in the stomach. Paris immediately appeared in his head. These short beautiful days with him. The endless conversations about music, books and history, the walks. Thomas' hand. He long wondered if he made that tattoo after all.

When the days ended he carefully tried to forget them. They were pure memories that should be locked and protected at all cost. 

At that time Thomas Lightwood was a guilty pleasure. Now he was even more. 

At this moment the dance ended and Lucie spotted her future parabatai. She said something to Thomas who fast looked at their way. Their eyes met.

Lucie hurried to his sister and hugged her. Alastair just couldn't look away from the other boy. Thomas slowly approached them, without breaking the eye contact. 

When he finally stood in front him, he smiled shyly. Alastair didn't realize how much he missed his smile.

“It's good to see you, Carstairs,” he said.

For his surprise, Alastair returned the smile.

“Good to see you too, Lightwood. You aren't taller from the last time we saw each other, for everyone's relief.”

“I suppose,” Thomas said, his eyes focused on Alastair. “So how are you? I heard that you were in Devon before coming in London?”

“That's right,” Alastair said. Lucie took Layla by her hand and they both went to talk with some girls. The Lightwoods and Sona was a little far away. Alastair and Thomas weren't alone but the atmosphere between them was definitely more private. “In Cirenworth, a Carstairs house there. It's close to one town, Chagford. Small but nice. I should take you to see it some day.”

Thomas smiled at him so brightly. Alastair wanted to know what he said to make him smile like that. He would say it all the time.

They continued to talk. Alastair probably was supposed to dance with some ladies. Perhaps Thomas too. But neither of them did it. It was far from their minds. Alastair felt like he was in Paris with Thomas again. Just they, talks about art and no one in the world.

Don't lose your head, Alastair thought. Don't lose your heart. But he was afraid it was probably too late.
