It has recently come to light that my deepest, darkest (Digimon) fandom secret is that I didn’t always ship Taito, and @hazelestelle was kind/curious enough to ask the following question in that shipping ask game:
18. A ship you never thought you would ship but do.
Buckle up, kids, because it’s time for a (long) trip down memory lane.
The year is 2002, and after about a year of exploring the internet via small guestbooks and messaging boards, someone finally pointed me towards the central German anime site. And while I think I had seen a couple of people publishing their own stories online and had written one or two myself, I hadn’t realized before that the concept of fanfic was a whole thing, let alone how much of it there was out there.
I also didn’t know yet that you could properly ship things that aren’t canon. Back then, I thought Yamto and Sora were really cute together (probably I mostly thought Yamato was the coolest person ever and was using Sora to heavily project onto), and apparently so did other people, because I easily found and read quite a few stories about them.
Now what you have to remember is that tags or any kind of useful sorting system just wasn’t a thing back then, which is how I ended up with a sliiightly different story, but I didn’t know that yet.
The fic was labeled with all kinds of warning – but I had absolutely no idea what any of those words meant. I’d only just discovered that Taichi and Yamato were Tai and Matt’s Japanese/actual names and just figured “Taito” and “Yamachi” were other (nick)names for them, and since it was popular to just throw random Japanese words into your fic at the time, and half of the time people didn't even use them right, I didn’t bother to look up what “Shounen-Ai” and “Yaoi” meant.
So I had no idea what I was getting into when I started reading, and after a couple of chapters I might have found it a bit weird that Sora was so little in it, but apparently I’ve also always enjoyed a good slow-burn, so I kept on reading. I don’t even remember when I realized that there was something going on between Yamato and Taichi, but I do remember that I was fascinated, and that I couldn’t stop reading, especially once it became obvious/something actually happened between them.
(Why do I care so much about queer people, says queer person years before she figures out she’s queer herself, etc.)
Anyways, the story was long (and my internet time limited), so it took days, if not weeks of surreal summer evenings until I was done, but I read the whole thing.
And for whatever reason… I took this as my sign to start shipping Daisuke and Ken (and a variety of DBZ characters). XD
I’ve absolutely no idea why that was what I took away from the whole thing, it’s not even that I disliked the ship (yet), I always kind of understood why people were shipping them, maybe it was simply because Digimon 02 was much more present in my mind than the first season at the time?
But then I started looking for Daisuke/Ken stories (again, without a lot of help from the websites themselves), and it was an absolute nightmare.
You simply couldn’t find anything that didn’t have Yamato/Taichi as the main ship instead, that didn’t feature them as the reason Daisuke and Ken were figuring themselves out, or didn’t have them as the “older, wiser” couple at least one of them went to for advice, and I was steadily growing more and more annoyed by them.
And it was like this for years. I think it got even worse (Adventure, and thus Yamato/Taichi, has always been more popular than any of the 02 characters, and even more so after they lost their momentum).
They just were everywhere, in every goddamn fic, no matter what other pairing you were actually looking for. I was once reading some football RPS, and when the guys in that story were listening to the radio, the host mentioned someone had called in and asked to play the previous song, from Yamato to Taichi (or the other way round) – you can’t even make that shit up.
At this point they just annoyed me so much that I made a point of not shipping them, and I think I’d also reached a point where I was a bit tired of the whole “they’re rivals/always beating each other up, so they obviously are in love” trope.
I also discovered Taichi/Koushiro (which I still think is an amazing ship that at least the German fandom has always been completely sleeping on), so I had even more reason to not ship Yamato/Taichi.
And I honestly think it would always have been this way, but then tri. happened. And hit me with full force. Because they were older, and somewhat calmer/less aggressive around each other, but still very much themselves, and most of all so blatantly obvious.
I was still in denial during most of part 1, but I already knew when Mimi shoved them into a Ferris wheel cabin and declared the group had brought them together that I was fighting a losing battle, and by part 2 with the entire onsen visit and the bickering afterwards, it was over.
Look. I get it. They’re really it. They work so well together, there’s so much there, they’re the blueprint for so many anime ships, they give me way too many feelings. (Help.)
I still don’t really ship them pre!tri., though. Partly probably because of my history with the ship, but also because I like their dynamic so much better now, and because I simply like the idea of people getting together later in life, or at the very least after they’ve at least finished high school.
TL;DR: I never, ever thought I’d fall into Taito hell, and yet here I am, in the year 2k24, absolutely obsessed with them once again. Thank you, Digimon, you’re the gift that keeps on giving.

like. like. majormoon yaoi anon once again hiiii
but like. like. where do i even start, ive explained this ship so many times to sm ppl. its hard to keep track of where the start of the explanation would be-
Imma start by covering up Life Series concepts here... will get into Empires and a funny AU i have later on... NOTE: i JUST realized seasons go autumn -> winter not winter -> autumn, so lets just imagine either its the other way around for some reason or maybe the games happen across different years or the watchers use time shenanigans n stuff IDK!!
Last Life: cottagecore queers. they started as friends, sure, they're best friends, but best friends who kiss, hold hands, cuddle together, cook together, stick to eachother like glue istg. AND I REPEAT !! KISS!! SURE SMALL PECKS BUT THATS NOT VERY FRIEND LIKE !! ive read many queerplatonic galaxy duo fanfics, but i think they're just romantically crushing on eachother and w time their relationship quickly escalated and neither of them wants to ask the big "what are we?" question. (plus, I hc every season of the series happens in a different season of the year, maybe in different years?? idk cause i didnt count for 3rd life but i dont think it would count as spring... ANYWAYS Last Life happens in Summer, for angst purposes)
Double Life: I don't wanna talk too much abt their relationship in DL cus it makes me so mentally ill, reminds me of sum personal lore in my life I wont get into, but I still love em. I hc soulmates have some shared features w their soulmates, different for everyone, like these two have the ends of their hair the color of the others hair. after the "divorce" Pearl tried to cut off that teal part but the ends just gew upwards, like the teal part just appeared in his new ends when moon cut off the old ones, so at the end he just used red dye to dye em red. Also I feel like they lowkey miss eachother even if both are too stubborn to talk to eachother and at least try to fix things. (winter. winter freezes. often killing all that in summer grew green)
Limited Life: Oh hoh ho... the drama is back but the toxicity is gone. frienemies, exes, a bit petty still but can joke about it for a lil, have forgiven eachother but at times still feel resentment. they live very far away, yet when they interact in person, if things are 1o1 and there isnt any of their allies nearby, gosh can the tension be cut with a knife. not only tension in the way or anger, but sometimes just being awkward around eachother, sometimes homosexual tension, sometimes homoerotic tension- (half joke, i wont talk abt nsfw stuff but theyre adults). They stare at eachother from across the room thinking either "i wanna punch you so bad" or "i would so go and kiss you right here right now", or both. However theyre still fairly friendly, its not the same as *Our Last Summer*, since they'll maybe pull petty pranks on eachother, specially the Nosy Neighbors on Mean Gills, with Pearl mostly having Scott's ever so slightly upset reaction, if even to get a groan or frown from him, tho he doesnt hate her anymore, its not like winter, thats in the past. Autumn comes and makes leafs fall... it gets rid of the dead waste of what winter killed, preparing for Spring...
Secret Life: ... for a new beginning. Spring comes along, a new, more lighthearted game at the start. After going through so much stuff together, everything they've overcome, "That's in the past" "It was a one time thing?" "Yeah, yeah" "Well, I'm glad we agree... glad we can move past that". And they start again, blank page, althrough clearly stained by past moments, they can look back at them fondly and joke around about it without hard feelings. Not only that, but they finally make up their minds, both of them get their shit together and can finally label their relationship, make it official... tho whats a game about secrets without some secrets of their own? So at first, with a bit of fear of what their allies would say, but also just in a way to keep privacy and get a laugh out of others confusions, they meet up in secret. Secret meetings at night or when their allies are out, whispering to eachother and giving eachother accomplice looks, finding hiden spots to sit down and talk. They're plenty suspicious in plain sight, but with all the reasons there could be for them to be hiding something? Maybe theyre up to no good! Maybe they're plotting destruction! Maybe its got to do with their tasks! Yeah, it drives the yellows mad in particular, trying to guess their tasks just to be told it couldnt be further from correct or that they already complited theirs. Now some participants are a bit oblivious, but others can put 2 and 2 together pretty quickly... they'd keep their mouths shut tho, cause seeing the others lose their mind trying to uncover their "plans" is quite the funny sight. Maybe some would get a push like a little knudge from Cleo "They're dating, Bdubs" "... OHHHH, SO THATS WHY". The Roomies all know for sure, Impulse suspects, to Gem and the Mounders it never crossed their minds, unsure about others tbh but thats what I know for sure. But yeah! Maybe at first they'd have a "Bad Idea" (from Waitress) moment, tho that song also could fit an ""afair"" in LimL from what ive talked with a friend, but yeah. They're destined to die anyways, since the finale means only one can win, and that winner is neither of them, but they'll meet in the next game. Tilly next time. Or, Tilly death does them part...
... except not, cause not even death can do that, cause they are able to find eachother in every single universe, no matter the circumstances, even if their situation isnt ideal in some, they're always together, in one way or another. MajorMoon yaoi anon dropping the anon. Shameless Scottearl posting today!! Let's go rom Galaxy Duo Truthers!!!
Youre getting your own tag /silly

Hey I'd like to add my perspective growing up queer (cis, gay male) during the 2000s in Western Europe.
There was a lot of shame. Especially as a small town boy, there was the very real feeling my family would never accept me. I went through an entire "I'm bi I'm bi I'm bi I can't be gay that would be the worst thing ever, I'm bi" phase.
My country had legal gay marriage (not even just 'civil partnership', actual marriage) by the 2000s. Despite that, mainstream opinion was still that we were a bunch of freaks and fruits. The big tv channels had "lifestyle" segments on gay people that were exoticising, demeaning, and very much "look at how these freaks live".
In true European fashion, anyone who complained was told "well AT LEAST you don't have it as bad as AMERICANS" (see also: racism)
'Don't ask, don't tell' was a thing not just in the US military but in high school as well. Palpable sense of "don't tell me you're gay so I can continue to be civil to you"
When I was out during the last year of high school, a gym teacher asked me "Hm, shouldn't you get changed in the girls' locker room instead?" (On a positive note, several of my straight male classmates immediately shut him down by calmly going "Excuse me? What? What did you say? You can't say that.")
Parties were pretty great. This might be nostalgia talking. There was (is) a semi-government-funded organisation focused on helping queer youth, and they threw parties about once a month. They had an online forum (discontinued only a couple of years ago! I hate the current internet and the Discordification of social online spaces) where I made a lot of friends, some of whom I'm still friends with to this day. Anyway, the parties were fun. I'd take the bus there and dance through the night and make out with people, thinking "are you a boy or a girl? does it matter?"
The internet was WILD. Only freaks were on there. 'Groups' and chatrooms were a big thing. I was in an MSN or Yahoo! group for Final Fantasy VIII yaoi. I made friends there too. We used ICQ messenger and Yahoo! messenger, before MSN messenger was even a thing. I sent and received nudes. Much later I wondered about some of the people I sent nudes too, and how maybe they were not 16 like me but a whole lot older. (And also: I lived. It barely affected me.)
I realised I was gay when I was in some sort of summer camp. Another kid was panicking because he thought he might be gay (he was, and in retrospect it was very obvious.) He'd got the idea from a GOVERNMENT FLYER on "you may be gay (and it's okay)", containing a bulleted list on "Things that indicate you might be gay." ("Masturbating while mainly thinking about people of the same gender as you" was the big one for me)
There were government posters up in libraries about "1 in 10 people are gay, it might be you, and that's okay!" It was... weird but well-meaning, I guess?
9/11 and the Bush Administration and the Afghanistan and Iraq war were... something. Yeah. I think a lot of us forgot that the War on Terror was a semi-religious war against islam. I know I forgot how big a role Bush's born-again christian thing played in it all until I saw some clips of his "God bless America" and "If you aren't with us you're against us" and it all came rushing back.
Chick-Fil-A being homophobic was a thing back then too. Back then straight people didn't care either. It's kinda funny how that came back up again recently.
Cultural imperialism is a thing. As a kid in Europe you get inundated in American tv shows and movies, whether you want to or not, and there's no telling what will stick. My mom and sister were really into Seventh Heaven, a shitty religious / evangelical Aaron Spelling show. I was really into South Park. I feel this has only gotten worse now that the entire Internet has narrowed down to five American-owned mega-sites.
At the same time, there was a sense of pride that most European countries didn't blindly go along with what Bush and Cheney and Powell were trying to sell about "Saddam's weapons of mass destruction". The whole "freedom fries" debacle was the first time me and many of my peers realised America is a deeply unserious nation.
The internet was a lot better, though.
…I’m asking this as a younger queer person who was busy with other things during the 2000s (namely being a toddler/very young child)…what was being queer teen in the early 2000s like? Also, before I go interrogate the first willing 40 year old I find at the LGBT Center…do you know of any books or articles about this time period?
it was a lot of being forced through abstinence only sex education, getting hate crimed, being super eating disordered and that being completely normalized and even considered healthy, having classmates die of a mix of eating disorders & drug use, rampant teen pregnancy, both teachers and students getting into fistfights, being sexually harassed literally all the time, the one trans kid having to take school online so he wouldnt kill himself, 25 year olds hanging out around the school giving girls cigarettes and sexually assaulting them, working a part time job at the mall for 5.50 an hour then driving home to find your mom watching bill oreilly ranting about how people like you are evil and disgusting and next thing jeff dunhams on the tv doing jokes about dead muslims. cant tell you just how ambient and everywhere both violent homophobia and rape culture were like it was omnipresent. lotta slurs too. lots of teens getting black out drunk all the time and puking and getting into situations. what resistance to the wars i got to see in my small ish city was a few rallies of a few dozen people and some protest signs tied to highway overpasses, but otherwise american flags and jingoistic propaganda were everywhereeeee, on every minivan window and classroom etc. nobody spoke up for gay people that wasnt gay and everybody hated women and were so so anti black
the internet was a lot better though.

Dig a Grave to Dig Out a Ghost - Chapter 10
Original Title: 挖坟挖出鬼
Genres: Drama, Horror, Mystery, Supernatural, Yaoi
This translation is based on multiple MTLs and my own limited knowledge of Chinese characters. If I have made any egregious mistakes, please let me know.
Chapter Index
Chapter 10 - Back to the City
Black shadows rose from the middle of the road, eyes without pupils staring at Lin Yan's car. There were ragged children with skin stretched tight on their bones running around, and even women in palace costumes, stretched out their long white hands, scratching the body of the car with their nails. It was an apocalyptic escape. Lin Yan took a deep breath and accelerated to two hundred and ten kilometres per hour. The trees on either side of the road became looming shadows, and he couldn't clearly see anything on the road. He was firmly pressed back onto the seat by the impact of the acceleration. The uneven dirt road and the speed made Lin Yan worry that the car would flip over at any second. Even so, he didn't dare take his foot off the pedal for a second. The car was like a strong black wind, cutting its way out of the ghost formations in the mountains and forests.
Escaping towards the land of the living.
Just before the needle on the fuel gauge dropped to empty, Lin Yan finally saw the city. He got on the Fifth Ring Road and he rolled the window down a crack. The cool night breeze dissipated the heavy bloody air in the car.
Cities, traffic, human voices, normality.
Lin Yan let out a long sigh of relief and relaxed into the chair.
The events of the exorcism in the mountains seemed like a dream as he drove through the bright lights of the city, but the evidence of the event sitting in his passenger seat was very reak. Lin Yan slammed his hand against the steering wheel, thinking that his life must really be hell. The most damn thing is that, in an era in which people lived in peace and well-being, and the leaders lived in happiness, leading the future of the country with diplomacy and socialism, he had saved a ghost who came to kill him from the hands of a master who didn't know what was going on.
Lin Yan found a secluded place to stop and rest.
"Man, celebrate, we made it out."
There was no answer. The ghost next to him seemed to be asleep, his eyes closed as he leaned on the seat, his black hair hanging down to cover most of his face.
He didn't die, did he? Lin Yan's heart clenched, and then he realized that this thing was already dead, and there's no way that it could die again. No, he couldn't say anything. Lin Yan glanced at him. His quiet manner with his eyes closed was no different from that of a living person. He was even breathing, his chest slightly rising and falling regularly. Dressed like a Confucian disciple, with loose hair that was very inconsistent with traditional practices, his clothes were stained with old blood, but the fabric was still visible beneath it. Looking down, bare feet peeked out from beneath the straight hemline. They were covered with a series of mottled cracks and old wounds like he had been walking for a long time.
Lin Yan sighed, thinking that this time he definitely offended his ancestors. He hesitated for a while, debating between abandoning the car and fleeing or committing suicide, and finally decided to wait until the "person" woke up. "Don't believe the words of the dead, ghosts only remember what they want." The lines from the movie "Voice" flashed in his mind. Lin Yan shook his head, his eyes weren't playing tricks on him. The look in the ghost's unwilling and nostalgic eyes looked too real.
Suddenly, Lin Yan was not afraid of him. He hesitated and hadn't bothered to take a good look at him back in the temple. Ghosts. . . ghosts were invisible and intangible. What does it look like?
Through the ghostly tangles, Lin Yan stretched out his hand and slid away the long hair covering his face.
For a moment, he had prepared himself to see a rotten face, even a skeleton, completely lacking any facial features, but when the black hair fell behind his ears, Lin Yan was taken aback when the man’s sleeping face was revealed.
It's. . . a ghost. . . how could he look so good?
His face resembled those from ancient times, with long eyebrows stretching to his temples, a straightened nose. Between his eyebrows, there was a brilliance that did not belong to this era. His restless sleep was probably exhaustion from what the temple master put him through. He was frowning, curled up in his sleep, as if he was still protecting the little wooden block.
What? Such a good complexion. Maybe it wasn't all that bad having an early death to keep these looks. What the hell, this ghost looks good.
The skin was also very smooth, like a jade carving, with invisible pores.
Lin Yan glanced at him sympathetically, and his heart lurched. This guy didn't just think of me as his dead wife who he didn't had died years ago. He was desperately trying to achieve this virtue for some surrogate substitute. The things that happened in the temple made Lin Yan feel a little guilty. He couldn't help but brush away the broken hair from his neck and gently wipe the dried blood on his face with the back of his hand.
The ghost startled and his eyes snapped open, staring at Lin Yan with spite.
Lin Yan yelled out of fright, and he instinctively covered his neck with his hands.
The target of the attack this time changed to his shoulders. A pair of infinitely powerful ghost hands squeezed Lin Yan's shoulder blades harder and harder. He could almost hear the rattling of bones, and there was a burst of pain in his shoulders. This shit was endless. Lin Yan panicked and scrambled for the car door like a wild animal, but when the car was parked, it was automatically locked and could not be opened.
The car was so dark that he couldn't find the button that controlled the door lock. Lin Yan had to fumble around near the small green light on the control panel. The ghost's hand slid off his shoulder and touched the wound on his forearm. After hesitating for a while, he leaned over and lowered his head to gently sniff the newly scabbed-over knife wound.
Lin Yan remembered that he was still sprinkled with the Yin and Yang energy stone powder, there was only a human scent remaining at the place of the cut. He couldn't help but rub his shoulders and let out a laugh.
"It's me, don't smell it. It's not the real scent."
The ghost gave a long sigh and pulled Lin Yan's arm into his arms. Lin Yan looked at him blankly. All the energy he had disappeared with the obedient look and he had to let go of the door handle. Leaning towards the passenger seat, he rested his face on the ghost's chest.
"Brother, I'm sorry about today. You were almost hung up by the old monk without even knowing it. I owe you, let's not take this as an example, though."
The ghost's arm was wrapped around his waist, and Lin Yan's cheek was tickled by the long hair.
"Do you miss your wife?" Lin Yan grabbed the hand on his waist. He intertwined their fingers and whispered, "I have always missed my ex-girlfriend, but once you break up, it's done. You have to move on."
"It was wrong for me to dig up your grave, but this is what I'm learning in school. Whatever my professor tells me to do, I have to do it. Don't pester me, reincarnate instead. In due time, come back as a young lady or little loli in your next life and find Uncle for some sweets."
"When you grow up, Uncle will introduce you to someone."
". . . Forget it, you don't understand anyway."
Quietly in the car, the neon lights of the city reflected on the windows, and the Apple logo on the top of the tall building in the distance exudes cold white light. There were groups of people coming and going on the road. Groups of little girls changed into their summer clothes and carrying shopping bags, laughing and playing together. The boy was wearing headphones and concentrating on leaning against the window to play mobile games, probably because he was impatiently waiting for his girlfriend.
In the Audi parked by the roadside, Lin Yan and the ghost leaned against each other. The hustle and bustle outside the window seemed to fade away. All that was left was an unusual sensation. In an era that promoted independence and material desire, a bustling city, and impetuous life, full of voices, never really connected with him.
He was often driven to despair by such loneliness.
He never knew anyone else who felt this way. When people see other people, they start to act like dogs. Lin Yan raised a labrador who was always innocent and enthusiastic with his round eyes waiting for the owner to return home, more loyal than his own lover. He suddenly admired the ghost in front of him. No matter what reason he had for following him, destroying his life, or whether they really had a relationship, he had the courage to travel through hundreds of years and walk alone in this era that did not belong to him. Lin Yan wondered if he would be anxious when he walked through the tall buildings with billboards behind him. So. . . what was his motivation?
Lin Yan took out his cell phone to send a text message to Yin Zhou. Things had changed so fast. A few hours ago, he was shouting that he was going to kill the troublesome ghost, but now he was cradling him and watching the nightlife. The fluorescent light was dazzling in the dark. Just as he wrote out the fourth word, the screen was suddenly covered by someone's hand. Lin Yan pulled the hand away, but the ghost reluctantly covered the screen again, glowing light leaking through the gaps of his slender fingers. Lin Yan couldn't help but chuckle. He thought this ghost was very interesting. This child had a temper, so he locked the screen and coaxed him softly: "Stop, don't be angry." He pulled himself out of the ghost's arms and tugged on his sleeve cuff. The ghost obediently leaned over onto Lin Yan's chest, and Lin Yan slowly straightened out his hair with his fingers.
"There are still a few hours before dawn. I'll hold you until you fall asleep. Today, you were punished by the old monk." Lin Yan said. He could only breathe out a few times. Lin Yan shook his head at the misty figure in front of him, thinking about how he could pay for the sins he committed. He must find a way to break this ghost's obsession with the world and let him reincarnate in peace.

~ Queer Lit 30 Day Book Challenge ~
I decided to do this challenge I came across for June! Originally it was designed as a “day-by-day” thing, but my June was way too hectic to do a write up every single day… so I decided to make a nice compilation for the end of the month instead!
This is perhaps not the “purest” form of the challenge but I wanted it to be personal for me. Growing up when I did and where I did, I had very little exposure to queer books, especially age-appropriate queer books. That being said, there’s some books on this list that are really only “queer” by technically, or through a secondary character rather than the main character. I debated whether to include these but finally decided that, yes, I would. I owe it to myself. Even though some of these books that aren’t “as queer” as other, they were (or are) really important to me as a queer person and my journey is understanding that, so I wanted to acknowledge them!
More info about the books and the challenge under the cut!
Day One: First Queer Book You Remember Reading
Color by Taishi Zaou and Eiki Eiki
Remember how I mentioned a lack of available, age-appropriate queer books? I was one of those kids who was definitely exposed (probably too young) to queer manga/yaoi. It wasn’t necessarily what I wanted, especially as a wee ace teen, but it was the best I had at the time and it meant the world to me at the time, to see same-sex relationships even if looking back on them is very “YIKES”.
I’m sure I read others before this, but Color is one of the first that I really remember and which I a) actually owned and which b) wasn’t completely repellent in hindsight! I haven’t reread it in probably over a decade so I have no idea how it stands up, but at the time it read like a much more “realistic” account of two teenagers developing a crush and starting a relationship and as a questioning teenager it really helped me realize that this was a real, viable option.
Day Two: Queer Book That Reminds You Of Home
The Witch Boy by Molly Knox Ostertag
I hummed and hawed about this one for a long time because honestly I tend to read books that make me feel far from home. I decided to go with The Witch Boy though because it’s a story that challenges gender norms and stars a large family out in the woods, running wild and exploring magic, and honestly it gives me vibes that remind me of vacationing with my extended family. We’re also partially ginger and inclined to run wild in the woods. If we knew magic we’d have used it for sure.
This book is about 13 year old Aster, who lives in a family where the women all become witches and the men all become shifters. Aster, however, has no interest in shapeshifting and instead finds ways to study magic and learn the arts of witchcraft while constantly being pushed out by his female relatives… though everything might change when a new danger, that may or may not be connected to Aster studying magic, begins to appear.
Day Three: Queer Book That Has Been On Your TBR Too Long
Beneath The Citadel by Destiny Soria
That was an easy choice, this has been sitting on my bookshelf for months, staring at me accusingly every time I enter my room. I’m really excited to read it (Magical heist? Rebellion? With an asexual protagonist? Yes please) but for some reason I have not gotten around to it. Some day, baby, some day.
Day Four: Queer Book With A Name Or Number In The Title
George by Alex Gino
George is an absolutely charming middle grade novel about a child named George who the world perceives as male… but who knows she’s definitely a girl. The novel begins when her class decided to put on a play about the novel they had just read: Charlotte’s Web. George is desperate to play Charlotte, her favourite character, but isn’t even allowed to try out because it’s a “girl’s role”. George and her best friend struggle with how to handle this problem and manage George’s secret amid elementary school and home drama.
This book is really adorable – it was a nice, easy, cozy read for an adult, and would also make a great read aloud to elementary-age children if you want to introduce them to transgender characters.
Day Five: Queer Book Where The Protag Has A Fun Job
The Magic Misfits by Neil Patrick Harris
Not actually a queer protagnoist, but a queer side character who plays a major role in the series. Mister Vernon, one of Leila’s fathers, has arguable the coolest job: he’s a retired stage magician turn magic shop owner, which is complete with large rabbit, hidden room, and tons of fascinating gadgets to help a young practical magician learn their trade. He is hands down one of the neatest character in the series and is a major catalyst throughout the series.
The first book follows Carter, a runaway orphan who practices street magic to get by, as he runs away from his horrible uncle and winds up meeting a gang of magic-loving friends in a small town. Hiding from his uncle is only the beginning though, and the mysteries surrounding the town and Mister Vernon become thicker and thicker as the series goes on.
Day Six: Favourite Queer Graphic Novel
Check, Please! by Ngozi Ukazu
There’s lots of fantastic queer graphic novels out there, but I have to name Check, Please! as my favourite (and not just because I’m Canadian and am legally obligated to at least show interest in a hockey story). Check, Please! is the friggin cutest story about Eric “Bitty” Bittle, former figure skater and avid baker, who joins the Samwell University hockey team. The story is told in the form of Bitty’s vlog as he recounts the bizarre quirks of the Samwell hockey team, his struggle to overcome his fear of checking, and his growing crush on the team captain, Jack. Seriously guys, this is cavity-inducing sweetness and you can read it all online for free, here on tumblr @omgcheckplease or at its own website, checkpleasecomic.
Day Seven: Queer Book You Often Reread
Boy Meets Boy by David Levithan
Another book I haven’t reread in years, but this was the first queer novel I ever read (and owned!) so I read it obsessively, first the copy from the high school library and then my own copy (which is, let us say, well-thumbed by this point). It was pure fluff, in an aggressively diverse, relentlessly accepting, rainbow-coloured high school and it was exactly what I wanted in high school, and it still makes me happy whenever I remember it. It’s a straight-up high school romance, pretty traditional to the genre, but it has the most delightful supporting cast you could ever ask for. Maybe I should reread it again this summer…
Day Eight: Queer Book With A Happy Ending
Of Fire and Stars by Audrey Coulthurst
This was a bit more of a “yeah it was fine” book for me, but honestly… queer people deserve some average, run-of-the-mill YA fantasies. As far as my normal reading preferences go, run-of-the-mill YA fantasies are my bread and butter. And this one has a cute sapphic romance to go with it. It’s about Denna, a princess with a dangerous secret: she has a magical Affinity for fire, despite being betrothed to the prince of a kingdom that aggressively prosecutes and fears magic-users. So now Denna is in a strange land, trying to hide her increasingly volatile magic, solve an assassination that rocked the kingdom, and deal with the growing connection between her and the prince’s wild sister, Mare. It has court intrigue, a murder mystery, horses, and lots of confused sapphic pining so it’s totally worth picking up if you want a light summer fantasy adventure.
Day Nine: Queer Book With (Over) 100 Pages
River of Teeth by Sarah Gailey
I decided to try to get as close to 100 pages as possible! River of Teeth is a 114-page novella that I haven’t quite finished (work and covid stress happened) but which I am fucking losing my mind for. I can’t recommend it enough. It’s peak alternative history, about queer hippopotamus-riding cowboys in Louisiana during the early 20th (late 19th?) century. Like… I don’t know how to emphasize how unbelievably cool this book is. Genderqueer demolition expert with a giant crush and a penance for making things blow up and attempting to poison guests when they’re bored?? Check. Gay gunslinging hippo-riding cowboy with an angsty backstory (and also a giant crush)? Check. Sexy, fat, badass lady con artist with an albino hippo that she spoils? Check. Like damn guys. I’m not done the book and I’ve already bought the sequel because I know the second I pick it back up I’m not gonna stop until I’ve ploughed through it all. This book is the epitome of “refuge in audacity” and “rule of cool”. Is it over the fucking top? Absolutely but that’s the point.
Day Ten: Favourite Queer Genre Novel
The Red Scrolls of Magic by Cassandra Clare
I’ll be honest, I’m a little shaky on what counts as a genre novel (isn’t… everything… a genre??) so I decided to interpret it as “slightly trashy YA supernatural fantasy” because that sure is a hella specific genre I’m weak for.
I really thought I was done with the Shadowhunter novels, I thought they were a goofy series I left behind in teenagerhood that I could look back on with amused indulgence. And then I found out that there was a novel specifically about Alec and Magnus and! Oh no! Ding dong I was wrong. I fell back in hard because listen… I love them. They were one of the first canonical same-sex relationships I ever read about in an actual novel, they meant a lot to me then and still mean a lot to me now. I have nothing to say to defend myself here except that this book wrecked me and I can’t wait for the sequel.
Day Eleven: Queer Book You Love In A Genre You Don’t Read
Laura Dean Keeps Breaking Up With Me by Mariko Tamaki and Rosemary Valero-O’Connel
I am very rarely a slice-of-life / romance genre sort of person. I like my stories cut with a heavy dose of fantasy, scifi, action-adventure… something. So a graphic novel that’s not only a romance, but one about an unhealthy relationship and infidelity is like… super outside my usual range of reading material. But it was very much worth the read! The art was stunning, and the complicated emotions it tapped into really touched me. I’m very happy to have read it, and was so damn satisfied by the end.
Day Twelve: Queer Book With A Strong Sense Of Place
Belle Révolte by Linsey Miller
Linsey Miller is one author I very actively follow, I love her works and they always have very distinct, complicated worlds with unique societies and magic systems. Belle Révolte was her latest book and followed a prince-and-the-pauper type of story, in which wealthy Emilie des Marais is determined to learn noonday (magical) arts in order to become a physician, someone who can actually work to make her home a better place… but this is not something a proper lady would ever be allowed to do. So she flees her finishing school and meets poor, but magically gifted, Annette Boucher and offers her the chance to switch places. Annette goes back to school as “Emilie” and gets to hone her skills at the midnight arts while Emilie will use her name to sneak into medical school and fight her way up the ranks to physician. This is a challenging enough task, with rebellion roiling just beneath the surface and the country about to slip into a arrogant war that threatens the lives of hundreds…
Day Thirteen: Queer Book That Really Made You Think
Our Dreams At Dusk by Yuhki Kamatani
This is a four book manga series that is completely breath-taking. It’s touched by magical-realism and completely drowned in visually stunning metaphors and symbolism. Seriously, I’ve reread these books multiples times trying to digest how the wide variety of symbols overlap and contradict and compliment and challenge each other. I still haven’t really gotten a solid handle on it, it’s very fluid, so yeah… definitely makes me think.
The story starts with Tasuku Kaname who believes he may have just been outed as gay by a high school friend, and feels like he’s watching his entire world crumble around him. He is seriously considering taking his own life, when he runs into the mysterious woman “Someone-san” and winds up leading him to a drop-in center that’s run by a local non-profit, and is also a hub for a number of queer people in the community. The books follow Tasuku as he grows, learns, makes mistakes, and confronts his feelings, along with a number of other members at the drop-in center. It is completely beautiful, optimistic, but also quite stark and harsh at its look at homophobia and transphobia in modern Japanese society and how it can effect people in different ways. I just bought book four and can’t wait to read it and see how everything ends.
Day Fourteen: Queer Book That Made You Cry
The Marrow Thieves by Cherie Dimaline
Holy shit guys. Listen. Listen. If you don’t read any other book on this list, please consider reading The Marrow Thieves. It is hands down the best book I’ve read so far this year. Another book that doesn’t have a queer character as the protag, but as one of the main supporting characters and listen, his story fucking destroyed me as a person. That romance just… aaaaaaah. AAAAAAAAH.
Anyway. The Marrow Thieves is a Canadian dystopian novel. It takes place in a post-climate change world in which society has been ravaged – partially due to the wildly different and extreme weather patterns, but also through a strange disease that has spread through the population that has left people completely incapable of dreaming. Now unable to rest, process their lives, and dream of a future, people are being driven insane and only one group appears to be immune: North America’s First Nations people appear to be unaffected. And so they begin to be harvested, rounded up and collected in “school” in order for people to suck the marrow out of them to give to white people afflicted by this disease. The Marrow Thieves follows a First Nations boy named Frenchie as he flees the recruiters and tries his best to survive in this post-apocalyptic like wilderness, banding together with other First Nations people who are heading north, where they hope to find communities of their own people with whom they can shelter and start to rebuild their lives.
It’s a YA level novel, not very long, and such an insanely good read. I cannot emphasize enough PLEASE GO READ THIS BOOK.
Day Fifteen: Queer Book That Made You LOL
Mostly Void, Partially Stars by Joseph Fink and Jeffrey Cranor
Welcome to Nightvale always makes me laugh and it was a lot of fun to get to read the transcripts of the episodes. I’m a sucker for novelizations/transcripts of shows. It was a nice nostalgia trip and gave me an excuse to go back and relisten to some of my favourite episodes too! If you’ve never gotten into Nightvale… hey, it’s a classic! Podcast is fucking stunning if you’re into podcasts, and if you’re not but would enjoy a weird, queer, eldritch horror comedy then try the book! It’s the first “season” compiled in text form, exactly how it’s heard in the show.
Day Sixteen: Queer Book That Is Really Personal To You
Jughead volume 1 by Chip Zdarsky et al
Including this one because gee golly it sure did make me want to fight a lot of people for quite a while. It was one of the first stories I ever found/read that had an explicitly asexual main character… (and a character I already really loved! Which I now got to feel an even stronger connection to! It was so fun and validating!) so it was super awesome how like half of tumblr decided for a year there that this was apparently a cardinal sin. Imagine… one single version of old, long standing comic series deciding to retcon a character to represent a heavily under-represented community… imagine being so fucking angry about that that you decide to start a hate campaign on the internet. So much fun to live through that as an ace person. Anyway, these comics were nothing amazing but I sure do love them aggressively out of pure spite, even now that the aphobia on tumblr has died back down I will hold this to my chest and adore it.
Day Seventeen: Favourite Queer Book Sequel or Spin Off
The Lady’s Guide to Petticoats and Piracy by Mackenzi Lee
Honestly do I even need to say anything here? Is there any queer person who hasn’t read Mackenzi Lee’s The Gentleman’s Guide to Vice and Virtue series? If you are someone who hasn’t read it yet… go do that?? Absolutely stunning, one of my all-time favourite book series. It’s the perfect combination of hilarious and goofy, intense action, heartfelt character development, and a dash of “wait was that supernatural or??” This sequel was fantastic, this time focusing on Felicity, Monty’s sister, and her quest to become a physician despite being a woman in the 18th century. Awesome look at femininity, feminism, asexuality, and race. (Also… OT3? OT3.)
Day Eighteen: Favourite Queer Book By A Favourite Author
Monstrous Regiment by Terry Pratchett
One of those “ehh is this technically queer? Not really but close enough, it is in my heart” books. It was one of the books I read as a teenager when I was still beginning to seek out and try to explore queer lit in so much as I could.
Terry Pratchett is, hands down, my favourite author, and though he doesn’t tend to write explicitly queer literature, his exploration of gender through allegory is top fucking tier. Everything to do with the dwarves in his series is fascinating, and a really great challenge/critique/exploration of gender, and this is the book that takes it to the next level (and brings in at least implicitly queer characters). It’s about Polly Perks, who lives in a small, war torn nation, choosing to join the army in order to find out what happened to her brother. However, as tradition dictates, she can’t join as a girl… so she disguises herself as Ozzer, a young man. There’s a lot of twists and turns, and as always Pratchett delivers fantastic humour and just absolutely delicious satire.
Day Nineteen: Queer Book That Changed Your Life
And Tango Makes Three by Justin Richardson
This was the book that made me realize that I, as a queer teacher, could have queer kid lit in my future classroom. Maybe a comparatively small revelation, but a really important one to me. It made me realize that this didn’t need to be something I kept a secret in my professional life and which could really positively influence children, especially queer children. It was the first queer children’s book I ever bought.
Day Twenty: Favourite Queer Book Series
Candy Color Paradox by Isaku Natsume
Alright… I’ll admit it, this isn’t actually my favourite series, but I’ve used my favourites in other spots. And this is a good one! Definitely more of an actual yaoi” than the other manga I’ve included (here there be sex) but it has a very different vibe that what I’m used to from that type of manga. The main pair are actually both capable, mature adults, with careers they actively care about, and who get together in the first volume!
The rest of the series is less about them angst-ily toeing around their relationship, and much more about them learning to grow as a couple and balance their work and relationship and society. It’s funny and sweet, and I really enjoy these two losers. It’s a very low-stakes enemy-to-friends-to-lovers story, in which Onoe (a reporter) and Kaburagi (a photographer) are paired up on a news story they’re supposed to dig into together. What starts as a bickering rivalry gradually becomes respect, friendship, and love~ Onoe is a gremlin of a protag, so he’s a treat to follow.
Day Twenty-One: Queer Book That You Recommend A Lot
Mask of Shadows by Linsey Miller
To repeat myself: Linsey Miller is awesome! This is my favourite book of hers, the first of a duology. It’s kind of like an intense, edgy Tamora Pierce novel with murder. In this world, the Queen has a team of assassins known as the Left Hand. They’re an elite group that keeps the Queen safe and does the dirty work that needs to be done to protect the kingdom and keep the encroaching nations at bay. When the assassin Opal is killed, a contest is announced to find the new Opal. People from all over come to complete for the honour of being one of the Queen’s royal assassins, including gender-fluid thief Sallot Leon. Sal has some deep motivations to become Opal that go beyond a loyalty to their kingdom, but they’re going to have to survive their competitors if they even wants a chance at it… (Sal generally goes by either she or he in the books, but I’m using they in this instance since it’s in a more general sense.)
Day Twenty-Two: Queer Book That Made You Take Action
The Deep by Rivers Solomon
Uhh, I don’t really have any books that made me take action per se, but this one sure gave me a lot to think about. It’s about deep sea mermaids who originated from the pregnant slave women tossed into the ocean to drown during passage to North America. From those dying women, this race was born and were taken in by whales, raised and protected until they could descend into the deep ocean waters, to form their own safe society. Their collective past is so painful though that as a species they’ve developed a very short term memory. But a people can’t live without any ties to their roots and so one of them, the Historian, holds all the memories for their entire species and shares it with everyone once a year so that the community can be connected to their ancestors before once again returning the memories to the Historian for safe keeping. Yetu, the current Historian, is so overwhelmed by these memories, that she can no longer take it – she flees her people, her responsibilities, and her pain and escapes to the surface instead...
Day Twenty-Three: Queer Book By An Author Who I Killed Is Dead
Cybersix by Carlos Trillo
I cannot emphasize enough, this is not actually a queer comic, it is in fact a very homophobic, transphobic and sexist comic written by a horrible person.
That being said, he’s dead and I own it now the TV series was essentially about a genderqueer superhero and a very confused bi biology professor who has a crush on both personas. I had a passionate crush on both personas as a child, and I will cherrypick this comic until I die in order to enjoy the only kickass genderqueer/genderfluid noir antihero I’ve come across. I am valid and I am not open to debate or discussion. Do not read this comic it’s horrible (but consider watching the show).
Day Twenty-Four: Queer Book You Wish You’d Read When Younger
The Prince and the Dressmaker by Jen Wang
This is such an incredibly soft story with the nicest art. There’s so much understanding and compassion in it and its exploration of gender and self-confidence and being true to yourself would have been very reassuring to me as a child, especially by late elementary/middle school.
Day Twenty-Five: Queer Book In A Historical Setting
The Song of Achilles by Madeline Miller
A retelling of Achilles’ and Patroclus’ relationship from childhood to the Trojan war. So yeah, you can imagine that this was also a candidate for Day 14 :’) I haven’t read this one in years but god it was lovely and emotionally destroyed me as a person.
Day Twenty-Six: Queer Superhero Book or Comic
Overwatch: Reflections by Michael Chu and Miki Montillo
I don’t really read superhero stories very often (the comics have always driven me a little bonkers, trying to find a way to enter the totally unapproachable Marvel/DC canons, and the MCU burnt me out years ago for every other sort of superhero story) so this is the closest I can get. Tracer’s a superhero yeah? Anyway, I, like every other queer person in the Overwatch fandom, lost my fucking mind when this dropped for Christmas a few years back and officially declared Lena Oxton not only the face of the entire franchise but also a lesbian. It’s an adorable little comic and Tracer’s girlfriend is a sweetheart.
Day Twenty-Seven: Favourite Queer Children’s Picture Book
Prince & Knight by Daniel Haack
There’s a number of sweet queer children’s books that are popping up these days, but this is my favourite just because it’s less about “explaining the gays to children” (though those books also have their place) and more of a cute little fantasy adventure in which the actual protagonist is gay. It’s about a prince who sets out to find himself a bride who can help rule by his side, but it quickly becomes clear that he isn’t interested in any of the girls. Instead, when a fire breathing dragon threatens his kingdom, he meets a brave knight who fights along side him. It’s very supportive and the art is lovely.
Day Twenty-Eight: Queer Book That Made You Feel Uncomfortable
Let’s Talk About Love by Claire Kann
This is a book with an asexual protagonist that I was originally really excited for. I know there are a lot of people out there who really enjoy this book and connected with it, but it didn’t do it for me. Maybe because my expectations were too high, but the protagonist’s experience with asexuality was vastly different than my own and the narrative voice ended up rubbing me wrong (and let’s be honest, slice-of-life romance is NOT my usual genre at all). So it’s not “made me uncomfortable because it’s Bad And Wrong” more just… totally vibed wrong with me. Maybe the perfect book for other people but definitely not for me, I had to return this one unfinished because it’s portrayal of asexuality just made me so deeply uncomfortable.
Day Twenty-Nine: Queer Book That Made You Want To Fall In Love
The Gentleman’s Guide To Vice And Virtue by Mackenzi Lee
This book had to make it on here somewhere, and honestly it could have gone in a lot of different spots, but I chose to put it here because the relationship between Monty and Percy is so incredibly sweet and authentic it really does make you want something like that. TGGTVAV (for anyone who has somehow not heard of it) takes place in the 18th century, and is about Monty, his best friend (and crush) Percy, and his sister Felicity going on a final “hurrah” tour of Europe before Monty's father finally tries to pin him down in England and force every part of Monty that’s deemed “unacceptable” out of him. So Monty intends to live this summer up… until everything goes off the rail and the three of them are suddenly fleeing across the continent with assassins at their heels and a strange, stolen artifact in their possession.
Monty has a lot of growing to do in this novel, and that’s one of my favourite things about it. For his and Percy’s relationship to ever have a chance, Monty needs to learn and change and actually communicate with other people, and it makes the relationship feel strong. Not a fluffy, surface level romance that often happens in YA but something built from the ground up by two friends who really want to make it work. Ahh, it’s lovely. One of my favourite novels.
Day Thirty: Queer Book With Your Favourite Ending
My Brother’s Husband by Gengoroh Tagame
A two-book manga series that was completely stunning. It deals with queer relationships and homophobia in a very stark, real-world manner that you don’t often get in manga, while still being incredibly loving and sympathetic. The book is about Yaichi, a single father whose estranged brother (Ryoji) recently died. One day, a Canadian named Mike arrives, introducing himself as Ryoji’s widower. Mike had come hoping to visit his late husband’s homeland to try to get some closure, and Yaichi ends up inviting Mike to stay. The whole story looks Japan’s societal biases, through Mike’s experiences, Yaichi’s thoughts, feelings and prejudices, and those of his daughter who adores Mike.
Seriously, this is one of the kindest, most earnest looks I’ve ever seen to internal prejudices that critiques them without demonizing the person who feels them. Instead it lovingly embraces grief, growth, and love. This series made me cry multiple times, was good enough that even my straight brother practically ordered me to go out and buy the second book when he finished the first, and the ending was just *chef’s kiss*
Honourable Mentions
A few books I really wanted to fit on my list somehow but couldn’t quite manage it, so here: All Out an anthology of historical fiction short stories about queer teens. The Tea Dragon Society series and Princess Princess Ever After, graphic novels by the amazingly talented Katie O’Neill. Heartstopper a webcomic turn graphic novel by Alice Oseman about a pair of rugby players. The Different Dragon a cute picture book in which the boy has two moms and which is about accepting different ways of being. And Lady Knight a part of Tamora Pierce’s Protector of the Small series because because Kel is word-of-god aro(and/or ace) and I’ve adored that series and Kel since I was about thirteen so by god I’ll take it.

Now for those that wanted to do their own challenge, I found it on @gailcarriger’s blog.

Hijack Week June 2019 Day 6 : Mythological Creatures AU
Summary : In my bathtub lives a young man with white hair. He has been living for a short time, he only comes out very rarely, the air alters him and if he does not quickly return to the bath, he risks fainting or perhaps even dying... Why is he staying in my bathtub? Well, to put it simply: He's an octopus man.
We met one month ago, one evening, which logically would be more like the morning, after midnight, I had wanted to go swimming. It was summer, so there were a lot of people in the daytime and I'm not a fan of people, you could say I'm a little antisocial, and that's fine with me. But even during the evening the lagoon was infested with no one equipped with lamps and others on their boat in the middle of a search. I didn't understand why, for me, it was either drunk people who acted like jerks or the crab fishing that takes place at this time of year. And after looking for a moment for a quiet place surrounded by vegetation where you couldn't even see the inhabitants anymore, I found it. The upper part of his body was out of the water, clinging with one hand to a rock, so I hadn't seen anything in particular, except for a man seriously injured in his left arm who was losing consciousness. Then when he came out, it was a surprise. He looked like a human, until I saw the beginning of his thighs where eight huge, long tentacles, four for each, replaced his legs. He hadn't tried anything, he was just too exhausted to try anything, I don't even think he was actually conscious, so bandaging his arm with my shirt and bringing him to my car was pretty simple. I mean, simple, it's a very big word. It was just necessary to avoid all his assholes who chased him, to carry him without making his condition worse, and to hold a slippery body is not an easy thing, and especially to get him back in the car. Why did I do that? I was. . . Panicked. And I was afraid for him. If they had found him, they would probably have killed him or else they would have wanted to study him, lock him in a small cage when hundreds of eyes are watching him no matter what he does and when seeing him alive would not be interesting anymore, they would open his body to see how he works. Why would you want to deprive a creature of its freedom? Just in the name of science? It was and will be without me. When I got home, I hurried to put him in my bathtub and heal him, as his tentacles had also been damaged, and then put a little water on the bottom so that he would not dry out. The questions about what he was were spinning in my head, but before that, I wanted to make sure he felt comfortable. I didn't know if tap water was good for him, logically yes, but I didn't know what to do at the time so I just took as many empty coke bottles as I could, that I kept in reserve, which I was supposed to fill with water originally, threw them in the car and went to fill them with sea water. When I come home, we had our first face-to-face meeting. . . . An exchange that was. . . a little brutal. We were both terrified, me by this mystical creature, naked, who was moving and that I didn't know, except from the monstergirl fanart on the internet, and him by a member of the species who had attacked him, in addition to being in a place that he didn't know. Our first reflex was to back away, going up to the wall and then he started to attack. My reflexes were sharp, I had narrowly avoided his. . . His. . . Leg. However, it was my poor door that was hit hard, exploding suddenly. It didn't take me long to run away from the room with a scream. I'm a very. . . Brave person, I guess you could say. But I didn't particularly want to end up like my door. He had also followed me, walking on the ceiling, and tried to hit me, and although slipping to the ground, this time his blow was likely to hit me, he too picked himself up as he screamed in pain as he held a tentacle. The idiot had reopened his wounds. Once again, I don't know what had gotten into me, but I dropped the runing away to go see him and heal him again, after reassuring him and building his confidence, although I had taken a sticky slap, less strong than I expected, probably due to his condition, to bring him closer. After a few seconds, he let himself be carried out, held back from the moans of pain and finally returned to the bathtub now filled with sea water, without taking his eyes off me. That night, neither of us slept for a second.. My main reason was to make sure that his condition did not regress, the other was a mixture of fear and excitement. He was fascinating. The next few days were a little. . . . difficult. The food, the hygiene needs, not to mention the fact that I had a job nearby. I had found him at the end of my holidays so I had three days left to try to explain some things that would make our lives easier before I left home all morning. I didn't want to imprison him, just wait for him to heal completely before giving him his freedom back, so I was a little afraid that he would try to leave the house and get caught outside, but apart from visiting the house, leaving traces on the floor and ceiling, he never tried to leave. He was well aware of the danger waiting for him outside. The communication was also hard, he seemed to understand me, but he didn't speak. I thought that was normal, you could say he came from the marine world, so the probability that we would have the same language would have been surprising. At least, that's what he had led me to believe during the first two weeks of his cohabitation. He spoke and in several dialects! He had a native language, unknown to the human race, but knew about ten of them who had spent a good part of his adolescence learning them and had quickly explained that the humans’ world fascinated him and a mermaid friend, even if much less since that night. Which was more or less understandable. His name was Jack, one of the few things I knew about him, had not been able to resist coming to the citizens he thought were friendly, but as soon as the tentacles showed, there was panic. If we were in Japan, I could have been very scared. Maybe. Although we had become a little sympathetic over the time he was healing, we avoid communicating too much, even looking at himself, I think he regretted having made so much noise and caused problems, but I was afraid to want to study him too much, to flood him with questions and to talk to him. Maybe one day when we would be a little more comfortable, we'll exchange more. Then when he was completely cured, that is, at the end of the month, I took him away to give him his promised freedom, but when he saw the watched and infested beach of hunter-fishermen, this idea was forgotten for the time being. Apart from Toothless, I had no close friends, and I watched the news very rarely, but after a trip on youtube, I learned that Jack was nicknamed “Casper the octopus boy" probably in comparison to the species of the same name, and he was popular with all fanatics of strange facts and mystical creatures. And although some people shouted “fake" in the comments and forums dedicated to him, the majority believed in it and had the firm intention of seeking it. Although I was lucky not to be noticed, it was the shit anyway. In the end, Jack was going to live indefinitely in my bathtub. ~ ~ ~ The story is inspired by a manga / anime yaoi “Orenchi No Furo Jijou" if you want to laugh, go see it's just great. (a little short though) Thanks to my boyfriend for the trad ♡

The Final Count Down
My dear followers,
This Tumblr name was “Maidenroseforever” but nothing lasts forever...
I intended to announce a two weeks hiatus, from dec, 7th up to dec, 21st, for personal reasons (travelling abroad for work). This break might turn into a permanent hiatus. I’m not sure if I’ll find my blog when I come back. And more important, I’m not sure if I will be able to track all the beautiful people I’m following (artists, scan groups, people who’ve been helping me to be happy for five years now) and who will have migrated by the time I return.
So I bid farewell to all of you and farewell to the BL diaspora.
Thanks to my 6371 followers (even if there are some bots among you !-rather bots than censorship)
A special thouht for my mutuals and for you @addicted-to-yaoi, one of my first followers…
It’s been fun during all these years, and even though I did not post original stuff but only reblogs, I had a sense of sharing and of liberty here…
I’ve had the most lovely time with fan artists and BL Lovers. I discovered amazing artists and hard workers from the BL community. I laughed and cried sometimes and observed from afar but with interest some quarrels between this fandom and that fandom, this group and that group…
My Tumblr has had 5 years last summer. I’ve often thouht of making a « Follow Forever », but was too lazy for that (lol). Here is an ironic Follow Forever, now that everything will be over (maybe)… 😉

Memory Lane.
Someone actually went looking through my older stuff on AoE, spotted I had put up a story from an old FFN account I don’t use anymore. Asked me if I was author in question and if not, they were going to report me for claiming another person’s work. I pointed out that one of my ‘stage names’ was the same as the user name on the FFN account and I was, indeed, the author in question. They were actually... weirdly happy to locate me. Asked if I ever intended to write more Naruto fanfic which... lol no. God, that was forever ago.
This story is a product of its time. Back then, I didn’t understand that ‘yaoi’ was bad. But I did intrinsically know that if I wrote about gay men, I needed to make them people, not just their sexuality for gratification. Thus, this story was born.
An Appropriate Time (originally posted in 2005)
He really wished Raidou would just get it over with and ask.
Not that Genma was entirely sure what Raidou wanted to ask him. He knew the question was there, right on the tip of his lover's tongue, just in the way he held him before they fell asleep at night, or when they finally stopped being mad at one another over some minor tiff and snuggled into one another's arms quietly. Sometimes, he was just sure that finally he'd get to hear whatever was on Raidou's mind. But silence would dominate and eventually Genma either forgot about it or fell asleep. They'd known each other for what felt like forever. Genma could still recall that August, when he was freshly turned ten and Raidou hovered close to twelve. Everything had been hot and humid for weeks at that point, the sun steaming the world. Ice cream melted in an instant and got all over your hands, sticky and sweet. Genma had a penchant for trouble. When he wasn't seeking it, it still found him instead. When he'd get into fights with local bullies, despite the heat, barely able to really defend himself against them. Too skinny, but he was always a scrapper. Raidou had a shiny cast to him, then. Full of ideals and righteous energy. He came from a good family and he and Genma had the same blonde hair, the same water color blue to their eyes. His smile was infectious and he encouraged Genma where others always discouraged and believed in him in ways most people simply didn't. A name did not make the man, he often said. Genma believed him. Believed in him. Felt nothing short of awe as Raidou defended him that August, and forever after. At some point, things changed. The idealism wore thin, or maybe Raidou's viewpoint changed after the mission that left him scarred. Genma only recently had been promoted, trailing a year behind Raidou in that regard. He'd been in the hospital for months, enduring surgery after surgery in an attempt to spare him so many scars. It failed, for the most part. He entered what Genma could only refer to as a black period. He snarled at everything, refused to go out with or without fresh bandages over the angry scars that covered half his face and flowed like flame down his throat and onto his chest. "You are still pretty," he said to Genma once, "You don't understand what it's like to go out into the world and make a child cry for seeing the hideousness of your scars." "I don't think they're so hideous," he replied, "You'll always be beautiful to me." They became lovers shortly thereafter, that day. Raidou took control and Genma submitted, hoping it might help his best friend forget the dream of the white picket fence, fair faced wife and children. He recalled it being uncomfortable and a bit painful that first time, but he kept that to himself. He wanted Raidou to love him, and loved him back just as strongly. It worked. Raidou slowly came out of his melancholy. He smiled more often, stretching the scars until it stopped hurting to do so. He went out into public again. They held hands when they thought no one was looking, stole kisses behind buildings, winked at one another knowingly, and made love in the evenings when no one else was around to disturb them. By then, Genma had afforded an apartment and Raidou was over so often he joked about them moving in together. It didn't happen for another two years. And after that there came one cat followed by another. They settled into a life together, missions to see to, house details, feeding the cats, going out drinking with friends. People knew what was going on between them, but no one ever called them on it and that was just fine. Maybe they could have lived happily ever after, if they lived anywhere but in the real world. Shinobi had a duty to Konoha, and more often than not, they were apart for longer and longer periods of time. Genma became a member of ANBU and Raidou had the esteemed position of the Hokage's bodyguard. On a particularly difficult mission, Genma was gone for weeks at a time and Raidou had obligations during the day. Eventually, Raidou began wondering, aloud, if maybe Genma might quit ANBU. To this, Genma countered that perhaps Raidou should not work so many hours at his post. They frowned at one another, silently staring, stubbornly digging their heels in. "I don't want my boyfriend coming home in a bodybag," he said, sharply. Genma cruelly replied, "I don't recall committing myself to you like that." And so came the misconception that Genma had no intention of ever being that committed to his lover. Raidou held onto that like a grudge, and used it as a barb whenever they got into an argument. Eventually Genma slipped into the part. Sometimes he wondered if maybe he and Raidou might break up completely, go their separate ways. While they skirted it a number of times, it never happened simply because they refused to say it, either of them. Most of their arguments were grounded in silence. Staring at each other before one of them walked away and slammed a door shut somewhere. Raidou always was the first to give in, approaching Genma from behind and sliding hands around his waist, kissing the back of his neck until his lover relented. It unnerved him a little bit. Genma had changed from the little puppy that trailed after Raidou, finding himself more and more in control and uncomfortable with it. Then came the mission that changed everything all over again. Genma found himself a prisoner with two other ANBU, to be tortured for information, repeatedly drugged and eventually addicted to it. He watched his teammates undergo the same agony, sometimes forced to take part in torturing them, and exchange expressions of forgiveness when they had to do the same to him. He wondered if all of them would go mad long before they died. Once rescued, Genma wasn't sure how to deal with the world anymore. He retreated into himself. Sometimes he registered Raidou's face, felt kisses pressed to his lips or his forehead, but those days afterwards were hazy and mostly spent in the hospital trying to get rid of the toxins in his system and control the withdrawal symptoms. When he was finally released into Raidou's care, he slept on the futon in the living room rather than the darkness of their bedroom. When he could sleep, at least. Most nights after that were wracked with nightmares, seeing the torment he endured over and over again in his head. Raidou put his job on hold during those first few months, staying home to keep an eye on Genma, holding him at night to help keep the nightmares at bay. He never asked what happened, and Genma never offered any tales. He kept all of it inside until finally he felt numb enough to face the world again. And they stopped talking about the things that were wrong with their relationship. Raidou returned to his post, Genma quit ANBU and went back to regular missions. They floated around one another like satellites drifting further and further out of orbit. Until the day Genma realized Raidou was staring at him. They hardly slept together anymore, becoming more like roommates than lovers. Raidou sometimes made noise about commitment and as he was expected to do, Genma refused the topic all together. Yet for all the temptation around him, all the opportunities to find someone else or sleep with another, Genma never actually tried. He could have, he knew, he'd established that he wasn't Raidou's, really. And Raidou simply wouldn't have anything to do with it. Too honorable, to idealistic. Too much in love with Genma or maybe they'd been together so long he wouldn't have known what to do with himself if they were apart. Twelve years was a long time. So he was looking at Genma again, reaching out to re-establish something. Rather than push him away, Genma pulled him back in. And that's when he wondered if Raidou would ever finally ask whatever question he'd been meaning to ask. "You know, it'd be nice if you'd just say it and get it over with," he said, sleepy and content, pillowed against his lover's chest with an arm around him. "Pardon?" Raidou replied. "Whatever it is you want to say to me or ask me, just do it. You keep staring at me when you think I'm not looking. It's been going on for months now and it's really driving me nuts. So what is it?" "Ah," Raidou sighed. His fingers trailed along the curve of Genma's spine before a splayed hand came to rest at the small of his back, near the tailbone. "Well, we've been together almost thirteen years, Genma." "Next August, yes." "I know... well, I know there's no real tradition for people like us and I know you don't want commitment but--" "Oh stop it, Raidou. If you're asking me to marry you the answer is yes." Raidou shut up, then, tensing. Genma's eyes opened, head tilting back to get a look at his lover's face, wondering if he'd just stuck his foot in his mouth again. Instead, he was greeted by the most radiant smile he'd ever seen, not since the two of them met on that hot and humid afternoon in the depths of summer. (The end.)

Think Before I Talk - Garth/Blaise Menelaus - SFWish
Title: Think Before I Talk Author: Donnie Setting: Centaur Plains Pairing: Garth/Blaise Menelaus Characters: Garth, Blaise Menelaus Genre: Romance/Humor Rating: T Chapters: 1/1 Word Count: 1768 Type of Work: One-Shot, Summer Festival Piece Status: Complete Warnings: Alcohol Use, Gay, Slash, Yaoi, Pining, Pre-Slash, Fluff Summary: Blaise had to try, no matter how nervous he was. AN: Garth does not belong to me. He belongs to @nobis-deus-caritas-est/JD, my fiance. Blaise, and the writing, belongs to me, however. JD did the editing for this! I hope you guys enjoy! Think Before I Talk ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~ Never in his life had Blaise thought that the gentle tinkle of the shells wrapped in the wreath on his head would have been so calming. The little braid of kelp down the back, lined with the smaller ones, helped to play a pretty little melody that made his trek to the Centaur Plains that much more cathartic. It always felt good to slink on over, his tail propelling him forward with its smooth, fluid movements. Athena Lagoon wished it was as smooth as he thought he looked when he wound over the little landbridge between the two territories.
When he’d first started slithering over the invisible barrier away from the safe cover of the swamp and into the sudden, frighteningly open plains, it had felt secret. Wrong. He’d grown to his young adult life in the swamp with his mother, and when he’d finally felt safe enough leaving her alone, the first thing he’d done was run for the hills. Plains. Wide, open spaces were like some kind of quietly frowned upon, guilt ridden desire to him. Nobody would have believed him, nobody would have liked hearing about it, nobody would have let him leave again. At least, that had been what he’d thought. These ideations of being so naughty going to another place only intensified when he became entirely entranced by the Centaurs. Their movements were clunky and awkward in comparison to his own fluid ones, but they had a certain power to them, a commanding nature and a feeling of superiority. Their heads raised high, their muscles on full display, ripping beneath pelt and skin alike. He’d never been so surrounded by the noxious beauty of a different nature as long as he’d been alive. Sure, nagas had their own majesty, but this was something unprecedented. They weren’t filthy, or even all that bad. Awkward, maybe, but awe-inspiring. That same day, he’d seen him. It was impossible for him to describe the sight of the bulky creature as anything more than majestic. He pulled along a plough so large that it tilled several mounds of dirt at once. It easily covered the whole field in just a few passes, and the beautiful centaur did little more than break a sweat by the time it was done. Blaise never dared to speak to him for a multitude of reasons, but he did watch him often from afar. There was a large tree he would sometimes perch in on the edge of the farm his crush worked on, watching him work and thinking of dumb, sappy poetry. He’d never say it, never give them to him… But boy, the thought sure riled Blaise up until his scales quivered. Tonight, all of that was going to change. With the summer festival in full swing, and his post-nap bath interrupted by a mermaid intent on helping him with a wreath to impress his fella, well… He had little choice. Or, rather, he kept telling himself that. The more he believed he was stuck in a corner, trapped and forced to try, the better he would do at not turning tail and running. By the time he had wound his way to the beach where he hoped to see the object of his affection, his hands were slightly raw from constantly toying with the venus comb in his hand. It had been his favorite shell that Waverlie had found, and he couldn’t part with it, even for the centaur he so wanted to talk to. Surprisingly, there were other species present at the bonfire, not only the centaurs. He had been under the impression that, most likely, people would stick to their own territories. It soothed him to see other creatures, even if he appeared to be the only naga present. Perhaps that would be a good thing. Shyly slithering over to the fire, he began to coil in on himself, offering nervous smiles and careful, gentle hand movements. He’d asked someone to teach him sign language, once, and he had pursued it so endlessly that he had mastered it in under three months. Not as many people used it, but he was glad to see that there were a few others signing back to him. Sure, he wasn’t actually mute, but he didn’t really want to let all of these people hear him speak. Scanning over the crowd as a drink was passed into his hand, he eyed up the potential people to talk to while searching for that beautiful chestnut colored body. The cup to his lips, he sipped at it without care before sputtering and coughing at the burn of it all. Blinking in quick succession, he sat up a little more, tail tip tapping on the sand. What had he just put into his mouth? Someone was laughing, deep in their belly and genuine, and it drug another nervous smile from him that blossomed into something fantastic. If only he could find the man he was looking for. Maybe the liquid courage in his hand would help him with that, however. Careful to avoid getting any of it on his tongue, he knocked back another drink and felt the rush of heat, the sudden wave of dizziness over him, with a soft, kind heart. It felt good to lose himself for a few minutes in the feeling, the sway of the music that called him to dance. Snakes could so easily be charmed by the beat of a song, and he was no exception to the rule. Liquids poured from the hands of perfection could not have rivaled the fluid movements of his body as he wound and danced, getting increasingly creative as his alcohol intake increased. Soon, he was laughing and joking with others, revealing a voice less overpowered by his biggest embarrassment. That didn’t mean he didn’t still stutter, but he certainly didn’t feel so self conscious about it. Closing his eyes with his third cup in hand, he swayed backward, letting out a loud shriek as he slammed bodily into a thickly muscled creature behind him. Whipping around as quickly as he could, an apology died on his lips as he took in the sheer size of the centaur before him. Lips parted before he took another drink to shut himself up, Blaise couldn’t believe that he had literally run into the man he’d been attempting to be vigilant for all night. “Oh, uh… Sorry.” With what was definitely meant to be a placating smile, the centaur helped to tug the naga out of himself a little, as if standing him upright. “I didn’t see ya there. Are you alright?” “I--” Oh boy, he could feel it coming, now. “I think I-- Y-yeah, I’m… Hi.” He finally managed, enamoured and smiling in a love drunk kind of way. “I’m uh… I-- I’m…” You have a name, numbskull, use it! “I’m Bl-Blaise.” “It’s nice to meetcha, Blaise. Garth.” The centaur gestured vaguely to himself, before glancing off into the night sky. He didn’t do so well with people, but this guy seemed to be in a similar boat. “I… I finally know your name.” Sighing as his eyelashes fluttered over his cheekbones, he paused after just a second to sit up more and carefully untangle the wreath on his head from his hair. “I m-made this for you.” Every shell was placed in a certain position according to size, shape and color, wrapped in colorful leaves and dotted with wildflowers. The pièce de résistance was the kelp and shell tassel hanging off the back. He was especially proud of that. Garth’s shocked expression almost made Blaise’s smile falter, his eyebrows drawing in as if he were starting to feel uncomfortable. He shifted a little, fidgeting with his free hand before starting to pull the wreath back against his chest. “If you d-d-d-don’t-- D-don’t-- If you d-don’t want i-i-it, just-- Just say s-so.” He began, dropping lower into himself, towards the sand, before a strong hand shot out to grab his arm. “No, I-- It’s not that. I just… Didn’t expect it, that’s all. You’re the guy who comes around and suns himself on the rocks by the farm, right?” The tender smile on Garth’s face eased Blaise’s anxiety slightly, but his heart pounded like a thousand horses running a marathon. Not only was he going to (probably) accept the wreath, but he wanted to talk, too! Even after hearing what he sounded like! “Y-y-yeah, I… It’s warm and c-co-comfortable here. More sunlight, less shade.” Blaise tried, licking his lips and finding that a parched tongue did little for a mouth turned to a desert. Watching as Garth took the wreath like he was seeing it from the outside, he felt a swell of pride as the centaur placed it on his own head. Leaning down, Garth pressed a soft kiss to his forehead, before touching them together. “Do you want to go somewhere a little more private? We can just talk under the stars.” “That sounds… P-P-P-Per-- That so-sounds… That soun-sounds pe-perfect.” --- Garth smiled sweetly, offering his arm to the naga. Taking the other’s muscled bicep, Blaise swayed as he slithered alongside him. The moonlight lit up the beach beautifully, and the flickering light of the bonfire was left behind as they traveled to an edge mostly secluded from everyone else. “So…. I don’t have a wreath for you.” Garth began softly, licking his lips slowly as he glanced over, shy and guilty all at once. “I mean, I made one? But… I lost it on the way here.” “That’s o-okay. I… D-d-didn’t th-think I cou-cou-cou-- I didn’t th-think I could d-d-do it… T-talk to yo-you.” Blaise responded, “I-I’m glad I di-did, though. I wan-wanted to for-- For a long time.” The tender look on the centaur’s face set Blaise’s heart to pounding like a thousand hooves, and he blushed heavily, looking away. “I’m glad you did. You’re cute… And sweet. Maybe we can go for a walk sometime? Just… Talk. When you aren’t drunk, and when… We aren’t so close to everyone.” Too many people made Garth nervous, and, apparently, Blaise, too. “Y-yeah. I… I g-got nervous--” Blaise didn’t have a chance to finish his words before he felt lips on his forehead, and a calloused hand pressed into his cheek. “It’s okay. But tomorrow, I want to see you.” “I-- Yeah.” He nodded finally, smiling gently. “We can… C-can-- We c-can do th-that.” “Good.” That didn’t mean that he wouldn’t lay with the naga and keep an eye on him tonight. He did need to make sure he would be safe, after all. ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

The Arrangement
Wufei, struggling with his demons, agrees to a wartime fling with Heero, no affection needed or wanted. But the 'arrangement' lasts and grows as they join the preventers. It could become a source of strength for both. If they let it.
Non-consensual drug use
Nil by Mouth
Preventers get into lotsa fights, and sometimes we get a tooth knocked loose. I'm fine with going to the dentist, but Heero? That's another matter. Fortunately he's got me to drag him over there, because someone's gotta. And yes, I remembered to disarm him first; I rather like our dentist, and there aren't many like him who's willing to take care of us ex-Gundam Pilots for some reason.

The Source of All Things
Center, a planet where magic and technology blend. Or more accurately, fight tooth and nail. A planet of Sources, holes in our boring dimension letting through arcane power, chaos and pseudo-deities. In this hot-house of myths and very real dangers, Trowa and Quatre find a mysterious man at the end of a shamanic voyage. Portents suggest this Heero Yuy is crucial to Center’s survival. He’s important enough to have some interesting enemies after him, at any rate: a devious killer and thief called ‘Shinigami’, and a very irate Dragon. Beyond them looms an even greater threat. Indeed, the greatest of them all.(Alternative Universe, far-flung future sci-fi/fantasy. There are elements from the anime that exist here, albeit in very different forms; Gundam mechas, Zero, and lovely G-boys for instance. They are perhaps a universal constant we are not yet aware of. When The Tides Change
Preventers learn of a new underground rebellion group, along with the arrival of a new ally. Or are there too many complications to control?

The Pact
After seducing Quatre, the other four ex-pilots brave the uncharted waters of their new abilities and learn to cope with the unintentional gifts they were given. But as always, power requires responsibility and the humbling acknowledgement of humanity's weaknesses. The struggle to stay true to themselves becomes a dangerous and terrifying endeavor as they skirt the boundary where conscience bleeds into chaos and the dark abyss of temptation.

We Don’t Belong
Just as the war was coming to its climax, the Gundam pilots were about to take out White Fang in space, when an attack from Earth knocked both parties out of the sky. The Alliance had been in hiding and building a weapon to take out both of their enemies, a massive nuclear beam capable of knocking an entire colony out of space. The Gundam pilots are captured and put on trial for their crimes. Their punishments are as cruel as the new masters of this world, the foundation that had been manipulating world governments secretly for years and who now openly reign. What will become of the Gundam pilots in this reality?

submitted to my inbox by @plant-princes! here’s a list of yearly writing shit.
1. LIST OF WORKS PUBLISHED THIS YEAR
lawnsigns: a collaboration between me and @verystrongarms written for the hetalia big bang in june this year, though the series is still incomplete.
parasitic symbiosis: an incomplete belarus/japan fic written in august this year when i was feeling particularly depressed. i have a lot of ideas for how to continue it but tbh i don’t know if i actually could.
and it’s enough just to make you go crazy: you know the dream daddy craze? this and a short craig drabble were my contribution to it, and there will be others. i know it’s like kinda dead atm but also... it was a fun game and i enjoyed it.
sword-shattering fear filled me overflowing: written near the end of november this year. it’s gonna continue eventually.
some loser who rides the same bus: a gift i wrote for aph rare pair secret santa and the last work of the year. belarus/spain fic.
2. WORK YOU ARE MOST PROUD OF (AND WHY):
tbh, if you’re asking what i’m really proud of this year, it’d have to be all my oc writing! i just had a lot of fun with it and it brought me a lot of joy despite the lack of reception.
so like, either this work detailing the first kisses of my ocs or if you’d prefer one from fandom, lawnsigns, probably.
3. WORK YOU ARE LEAST PROUD OF (AND WHY):
i’m actually pretty proud of parasitic symbiosis, i think it’s got a lot going for it and a lot i could follow up on, but i wrote it at a point where i was so miserable i doubt i’d be able to follow up on it? like it’d be difficult to replicate that level of self-pity lol.
4. A FAVORITE EXCERPT OF YOUR WRITING:
“Florence is emboldened in her dream. She is a breath of life and an expression of happiness. Yellow flowers are tangled within her red hair. Silver is embedded in the grey of her eyes. Leaves grow like hair from her cold skin. Florence is a mistress of the Earth until she is taken back to the water, where she wilts.
This is home, she thinks. This is the womb of the world and the epicenter of her life, but it doesn’t feel like home. It feels like something dreaded. A home that was never.”
from this.
5. SHARE OR DESCRIBE A FAVORITE COMMENT YOU RECEIVED:
aaa ok so my favorite comments this year were literally.... every comment i got i think lmao!!
some highlights were a really nice comment @snark-sniper left on lawnsigns and a really horrible but very funny comment left by a wattpad commenter that referred to me as “author-sama” and apologized for being “moar into yaoi.”
6. A TIME WHEN WRITING WAS REALLY, REALLY HARD:
the entirety of my summer break i was really depressed so writing was :/
7. A SCENE OR CHARACTER YOU WROTE THAT SURPRISED YOU:
i hadn’t written aph spain extensively until recently! and my oc z became surprisingly much more likeable over this year.
8. HOW DID YOU GROW AS A WRITER THIS YEAR:
i think uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh i got more confident in my writing i guess?
9. HOW DO YOU HOPE TO GROW NEXT YEAR:
i wanna be able to handle certain concepts better/with more clarity and i hope i can get a handle on some of the more overarching flaws in my writing?
10. WHO WAS YOUR GREATEST POSITIVE INFLUENCE THIS YEAR AS A WRITER (COULD BE ANOTHER WRITER OR BETA OR CHEERLEADER OR MUSE ETC ETC):
oh several people! @verystrongarms remains one of my biggest supporters when it comes to writing stuff and also my friends!!! have been!!!! so supportive!!!
11. ANYTHING FROM YOUR REAL LIFE SHOW UP IN YOUR WRITING THIS YEAR:
i mainly write romance despite not having much of a romantic life but i do have kind of a romantic life now which is iconic.
12. ANY NEW WISDOM YOU CAN SHARE WITH OTHER WRITERS:
just keep writing dude!!!! keep writing whatever it is you’re working on now!! i don’t care if its fuckin................... kyle ron/reader or some weeb shit i just... i’m really passionate abt a period of time of non-critical growth. i went so long w/o thinking abt stuff i wrote and by the time i was ready to be critical about it i already had the foundations of it down? improvement is perpetuated by fucking up over and over again and making the most embarrassing bullshit for the longest time until finally u wake up from that trance and you’re like, “... huh. Bad.” and then you make good stuff.
13. ANY PROJECTS YOU’RE LOOKING FORWARD TO STARTING (OR FINISHING) IN THE NEW YEAR:
hopefully i’ll make meaningful progress with my book thing maybe.
14. TAG FIVE WRITERS/ARTISTS WHOSE ANSWERS YOU’D LIKE TO READ.
fdsalkjfdsl ok so the point is kinda missed bc it’ll be 2018 by the time anyone else gets around to it but:
@snark-sniper, @gayspacejew, and @angelpatton! and anyone else who wants to do the thing! blease!

Summer 2017 Anime Anticipation
My friends, the end of spring is upon us yet again, summer is approaching bringing with it my first quarter-century birthday and a wave of new anime of which there are no sequels of interest for me, so the list of shows I may end up watching is unusually diverse and pretty wild. HeroAca, Virgin Soul and Re:Creators continue into the summer too, the first two being brilliant, the latter… eh. I’ll talk about it in my final review of the season
Top interest
Shokoku no Altair: Definitely my most anticipated show of the season. The manga’s been making waves all over the place and getting praised for its story and beautiful artwork and since MAPPA now has all the money in the world after Yuri on Ice became the fifth (potentially even third, time will tell) best-selling anime since 2000, I hope they’ll do something really good with it.
Ballroom e Youkoso: Production I.G. picking up another sports anime? And one based around an artistic-interpretative competitive sport? Sign me the fuck up a hundred times over! I gotta say though, that my excitement for this show has soured due to 1) the fucking giraffe necks in the concept art and 2) All the fuckboys rallying up around it saying “don’t worry, this one isn’t gay shit like Yaoi on Ice™”. But I still have high hopes for this
Vatican Kiseki Chousakan: The premise sounds so kooky and cool and fun and I’m weak okay? It’s definitely different and sounds interesting so I hope it delivers
Katsugeki Touken Ranbu: After the massive let down that was Hanamaru, my interest in this franchise has dwindled quite a bit. Since they’re doing this as a more plot-heavy historically-focused rendition of the characters, I’m hoping it’ll be more my kind of thing and that ufotable makes it look amazing.
DIVE!!: The other sports anime of the season and it’s about diving of all things! Diving is one of my favorite sports to watch, but the studio doing this is kinda new so I’m worried they won’t be able to produce the animation this kind of sport would require. Fingers crossed. Just hoping it won’t be another Battery.
High expectations
Kakegurui: Looks cool? Not a concept I’ve seen before so I think it could be very fun and unique. I literally don’t know, I’m casting a sort of wide net because there are no sequels of interest for me this season but there seems to be an abundance of “I’ve never seen an anime about this!” shows which is kind of a rare thing in the medium.
Isekai Shokudo: I’d usually pass on anything that uses ‘isekai’ on its title, but my interest for the growing trend of food-centric anime beats my zealousness against otaku isekai LN. Hopefully it’ll turn out sweet and fun
Keppeki Danshi Aoyama-kun: The concept sounds weird enough to work in the same way that Tanaka-kun, Sakamoto, Saiki Kusuo and Nozaki-kun did. I’m only crossing my fingers for a weird af comedy, I ain’t asking for much.
Who the fuck knows, could go either way
The Reflection: This has been in the works for a while and it’s actually a collab with Stan Lee so basically I have no idea of what to expect but it has 50/50 chances of being amazeballs/a train-wreck and I’m quite curious.
Centaur no Nayami: In principle I like the idea of a slice-of-life about centaurs, definitely looks like something more in my taste than raunchier monster girl shows, but since this is a Chinese coproduction and the main girl has huge tiddies I’m cautious about it.
Saiyuki Reload: I haven’t watched the original Saiyuki –I’ve meant to, but my pile of shame is so big- so I don’t even know if I’d be able to watch it, but if it turns out to be something newbies on the franchise can enjoy, I’m definitely interested in checking it out
The Fate Line aka I have no expectations whatsoever but still intend to check them out (maybe)
Fate/Apocrypha: Back when this blog was young I managed to anger the Fate otaku because UBW was shit, but as I said repeatedly back then, Fate as a concept is something I find very engaging. Do I expect this one to be good? Nope. Why am I watching it then? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ I mean if I suffered rape-facilitator Archer in UBW I can’t imagine Apocrypha can have something that’ll make me quit… unless it’s offensively boring which can always happen
Konbini Kareshi: Everything below the Fate line I have no real expectations for, but if I have time to check this out it might turn out to be dumb and fun ala Starmyu or Dance with Devils. Who knows
Hitorijime my Hero: I mean, it can’t be worse than Super Lovers…. Right?
Netsuzou Trap: If there’s something I have even less faith in than questionable power dynamics BL it’s fetiche yuri. Still might try to watch ep 1, depending on the kind of reactions it gets
And that’s the season folks. Really lots of variety and with no sequels, pretty much everything on the list is a wildcard. Still I hope the top 5 shows won’t be a disappointment. Oh well, even if they are I’ll stillhave HeroAca and Virgin Soul.
What shows are you looking forward to for next season?

Summer Rain
by @yoshiminion
Rating: Explicit Category: M/M Fandoms: Despicable Me (Movies); Minions (2015) Relationship: Kevin the Minion/Stuart the Minion Characters: Kevin the Minion; Stuart the Minion; The Minions (Despicable Me) Additional Tags: Yaoi; Gay; Sex; Sibling Incest; Incest; Anal Sex; Anal Fingering
It's raining outside causing Kevin and Stuart to be stuck inside the Gru house, bored. What could they do to pass the time? Stevin. Warning: Yaoi, incest and lemon. Minionese written in English. Rated MA.
Read the full story at the link, or continue below the cut with pictures.
It was 3:00PM. The clouds were dark and puffy. It was currently pouring harshly. Thunder was booming throughout the sky causing most people to stay inside their warm, cozy homes. That's how it was at the Gru house. The humans and Minions were stuck inside the house, trying to entertain themselves. Two particular Minions, Kevin and Stuart, were in the taller one's room.
"This sucks." Stuart groaned, rolling onto his back on Kevin's bed.
"I know, dude, but what can we do?" Kevin said. "We just have to wait until the storm passes."
"How long will that take?"
"I don't know." Kevin said. "Hopefully soon."

The two brothers sat there, unsure of what to do. They mulled over different ideas with each other, most of which weren't remotely interesting. Some that did sound good, they couldn't do because they had to be inside the house.
"I fucking hate this." Stuart said in annoyance. "There must be something to do!" He turned to his older brother. "Kevin! You're the leader, think of something!"
"Like what? I don't know what we could do."
"Well, think!"
"Why should I?" Kevin asked. "You're old enough to think for yourself."
"Yeah, but I don't have any ideas."
"What makes you think I would?"
"Because you're the leader." Stuart said. "You always know what to do. You can think of an idea to cure our boredom."
Kevin sat in thought. What could they do? They're stuck in the house, their satellite TV has lost signal due to the weather, what could two extremely bored teenagers do? He looked at his laptop but he shook his head. 'Won't work. Internet is slow, which would make Stuart try to break it.' He looked at some of his manga in a corner. 'We've read everything I have, that Stuart would read.' He looked at two 3DSs charging in a corner. 'Our 3DSs are low on battery. Plus we've played just about everything we own. Hmm... Oh! There's..."that". But would he be willing to do... "that"?'
"Did you think of anything?" Stuart asked hopefully.
"Uh..." Kevin wondered how he could say this. "Out of curiosity, what would you say to sex?"
"Like...with you?"
"Yeah..." Kevin said.
"Uh..." The smaller Minion scooted away from Kevin. "You know I'm not gay."
"I know, but it's the only thing I can think of that we could do that we haven't done yet."
"So you picked that?" Stuart said. "No offense to you or anything, but isn't there anything else besides that?"
"Not anything new at least." Kevin said.
Stuart turned away from his older brother. 'I can't seriously be considering this, can I? I'm not gay!' He thought. 'Sure, we have NOTHING to do, but...' He mulled this over for a while before he made up his mind. He turned to his brother. "OK." He took a deep breath. "I'll do it."
Kevin's eyes widened. "Really?"
"Yeah."
"You sure?" Kevin asked. "Because we don't have to."
"I know, but like you said, we have nothing to do."
"True."
The two brothers sat silently for a few moments. Stuart cleared his throat. "So, uh, when should we do this?"
Kevin shrugged. "Now, if you want."
Stuart nodded. "OK." He scooted back over to his older brother, who, in return, wrapped an arm around him. Stuart's pulse started to race. Kevin could sense the slight fear from his younger brother.
"Let me know if I go too far, OK?" He said. "I don't want to do anything that'll hurt you." Stuart's face lit up from the kind words his brother said, feeling more respect for him. He nodded in confirmation. Kevin used his free arm to cup Stuart's face, leaning in until their lips touched. Once they did, it was like lightning. The way their lips moved in sync, it felt... natural. Like they were meant for each other.
Kevin slid his tongue along the seam of Stuart's mouth, asking for access, which he allowed. He wrapped his tongue around his younger brother's, tasting everything. The one eyed Minion moaned into the kiss, getting more and more excited by the second. Kevin pulled away for air, before attacking the side of his brother's body with little nips, causing Stuart to whimper in pleasure.

"Ahh~!" Stuart wrapped his arms around Kevin's body to pull him closer. Kevin trailed his tongue along the side of Stuart's body, then bit down hard on his pulse point, causing Stuart to scream out in pleasure. Kevin sucked on the skin until it became purple. After pulling away to admire his work, he pushed him onto his back. He stripped Stuart down to his thong, then did the same for himself. Kevin dived in for another kiss, which Stuart happily obliged.

The taller Minion straddled him and ground his erection against Stuart's, eliciting groans from the two. Kevin slid his and Stuart's only remaining pieces of clothing off. Taking Stuart's member in his hand, he pumped him, causing him to break the kiss and moan loudly, involuntarily thrusting through Kevin's hand. Kevin let go of Stuart and turned his body around, making them into a 69 position. The older sibling grabbed a hold of his brother's hot length and sucked the tip. Stuart, knowing what to do, grabbed the slightly bigger dick and gave it a lick. Not having any experience, Stuart was only able to take in about half of Kevin, while the taller Minion was able to deep throat him. This wondrous experience kept going on until they both came deep into each other's mouths. Kevin got off of him and repositioned himself.

"Do you want to keep going?" He asked. The shorter Minion nodded quickly. "Yes!" Kevin chuckled at Stuart's sudden eagerness. He reached into a desk drawer and pulled out a bottle of lube. Stuart, knowing what's going to happen, stopped him.

"Wait." Kevin simply looked at his younger brother. "I want to top."
"You know what to do, right?"
"Yeah."
Kevin nodded and handed it to Stuart. He flipped himself onto his stomach, presenting everything he had to offer. The shorter Minion couldn't help but feel even more aroused. Stuart opened the bottle and poured some on two of his fingers. He circled Kevin's bud before pushing slowly inside.

The bigger Minion below him moaned out in a mix of pleasure and pain. Stuart wriggled his finger a bit to stretch him slightly. After Kevin relaxed more, the shorter Minion added in a second finger, moving them in a scissoring fashion. When Kevin was stretched enough, Stuart retracted his fingers and slathered some lube onto his cock. He prodded Kevin's hole, slowly pushing inside.
It felt incredible! Kevin was so warm and tight, Stuart had to resist pounding into him...yet. When Stuart became fully sheathed inside, he pulled out entirely, then slammed back into him. He slid in and out slowly at first until he worked up a rhythm. Like with kissing him, this felt natural as well.

Kevin felt like he was in heaven. He could feel Stuart's member pulsate with every thrust. The feeling was driving him insane. While, he much preferred to top, he couldn't help but to love being taken. It was a nice change of pace. He should bottom more often!
"Harder Stuart~!" Kevin cried out from intense pleasure. "Come on little bro!" Stuart smirked at how his cool leader/older brother who always took charge, was now crying out from pleasure like a little bitch.
He slowed down a bit while increasing how much he pounded into him. He could feel himself getting closer and closer. He'd be damned if Kevin finished last! Stuart grabbed Kevin's cock and jerked him off. The sheer combination of the pounding and the reach around threw him over the edge. With a final scream of Stuart's name, Kevin came all over the younger Minion's hand.

Stuart slammed into him one last time before spilling his own sticky cream inside.

After emptying his load, Stuart fell onto his back in post orgasmic bliss. After a few moments, Stuart crawled over to Kevin, who rolled onto his back to face him.

"That was amazing." Kevin said.
"Yeah..." Stuart said, wiping the semen off of his hand.
"Never thought you'd agree with me." Kevin said. "Since you're, you know, straight."
"About that." Stuart started. "I'm not sure why, but doing this with you, seems so...right. I can't really explain it."
Kevin smiled. "I guess you're not as hetero as you thought, huh?"
"Guess not."
"And maybe, you like me more than as a brother." Kevin said holding his brother closer to him.
Stuart blushed. "…..."
Kevin continued. "And maybe, I feel the same way."
Stuart looked at him, the blush on his face becoming much brighter. "….R-really?"
Kevin nodded and pulled the blanket over them. " Yes. I've always loved you, Stuart."
"…...In a way, I think I've always loved you too."
Kevin smiled happily as he held Stuart tightly. He gave him a gentle and loving kiss. "I love you."
"…I love you too." He said, before sleep claimed him.

BIG REC MASTERLIST
Ok so... I’ve been reading fanfiction since I was still a fetus, and by that I mean I was 11 to 12 years old by the time. Also, I have read plenty of books too, and manga.
So I thought, why don’t make a recommendation?? Of all I’ve ever read and I can’t get out of my head?
So, for ANYONE out there, you could find something interesting here. If not, this will be purely for self indulgence then.
B O O K S
Pride and Prejudice. - Jane Austen. What can I say about p&p? I was fluctuated with the 2005 movie adaptation since I was 10 years old. And while I don’t tent to read the books when I’ve already watched their movies, I simply had to. And BOM! favorite book has been stored.
The time traveler’s wife. - Audrey Niffenegger. I bought this at a bookfair because I thought it was from a movie I had seen the promotionals for... figures out I was wrong, but this had me crying one summer afternoon. Since then I love time traveling-related books. And the movie? amazing.
Brida. - Paulo Coelho. This made me the bookworm I am nowadays. I like to thank my abuela for that. This book is magic, and one of the reasons I’m such a hopeless romantic who believes in fate and soulmates. I can’t help it. Tho this is not the only good book from Paulo Coelho and not the only one I LOVE, this is by far my most favorite and it was my first from him.
Aristotle and Dante discover the secrets of the universe - Benjamin A. Saenz. Oh boy... this was the first book I read in english. It is special. It has a space in my heartsoul. I can’t remember how many times I have re-read it (and I don’t tend to do that) I find myself taking it from my bookshelf and searching for a specific scene so I can fall in love with it again. This is gold, it is a treasure, and when the day comes and a movie adaptation comes out I’m gonna die.
The book thief. - Markus Zuzak. This book was so precious that I had to stop mid-way through reading the e-book version to wait half a year a buy a physical copy. This book is meant to be read while you can touch it, toss it, let your tears flow over its pages... just to enjoy the experience. I came for this book after I was reading such a good written fanfiction and the author claimed that they’ve stolen the writing style from this book. I DO NOT REGRET IT. You won’t either.
Daughter of Smoke and bones triology. - Laini Taylor. It has been 4 years and I haven’t read the last one yet. But I love this. I love the protagonist. Reincarnation is on the list of things I freaking love about fiction and this book has it. Also, it’s the kind of book that makes you want to wish you could live in their fictional world. Just amazing. And the author?? is a ray of sunshine?? I love her.
The lux saga. - Jennifer L. Armentrout. These books made me go insane and stay up to morning. Kinda cliché-ish if you look too much into it. But that doesn’t stop them from being amazing. Hot aliens at the order. Main protagonist is relatable and a badass... why not?
The mortal instruments. - Cassandra Clare. EVERYONE knows TMI by now. But these books made me the 18 year old I am. While Shadowhunters is like a canon divergence to the books -and don’t get me wrong I LOVE THE SHOW-, but the books? they’re gold. All the shadowhunters verse is amazing, but tmi is the life changing. I waited for the last two books to come out so it was torturing, but you can go and read them and enjoy the ride because there’s still more to come!!
H O N O R I F I C M E N T I O N S:
The tunnel. - Ernesto Sabato.
Dead houses. - Miguel Otero Silva.
White like milk, red like blood. - Alessandro D’avenia.
Falcon’s Prey. - Penny Jordan.
Maya’s notebook. - Isabel Allende.
Of Love and Shadows. - Isabell Allende.
The house of spirits. - Isabell Allende.
Fan Art. - Sarah Tregay.
Like water for chocolate. - Laura Esquivel.
And I think that’s it for books? not so many since I just listed the ones that have left a mark on me.
M A N G A
Yaoi/Shonen-ai.
Jackass! - Sawatte Ii tte Dare ga Itta yo? - Scarlet Beriko. This manga makes you love legs. LEGS LEGS LEGS. Also, Scarlet Beriko’s art style is to be put into a museum and be looked at for all day long. Friends to lovers and that’s it. SHOUNEN AI if you want it to be.
Yondaime Ooyamato Tatsuyuki. - Scarlet Beriko. This is some good shit. GOOD ART. AMAZING BODIES. LOOK AT THAT SEME. HE IS SO CUTE?! Yakuzas. Did I mention the uke being a yakuza? well he is. One con of this manga? CW dubious-consent and rape at some point but with bl one kind of gets along with it (not that it is a good thing). Still a good manga. YAOI because yes.
Doushitemo Furetakunai. - Yoneda Kou. I cried. That’s it. IT HAS A LIVE-ACTION MOVIE??!! YES?! Cute, cute all over. SHOUNEN AI.
Udagawachou De Mattete Yo. - Hideyoshico. Enjoy how a boy loves wearing dresses and make-up because he slays with everything he puts on! and then succeeding at accepting himself. Also... IT HAS A LIVE-ACTION MOVIE TOO!??! YES! SHOUNEN AI.
Hana no mizu shiru, Hana no migoro ni, Hana no miyako de. - Takarai Rihito. I fell in love with Takarai Rihito thanks to this. I seem to keep forgetting the exact order to read all three of them, but boy at one point you’ll cry if you figure that out. SHOUNEN AI.
Yuki No Shita No Qualia. - Kii Kanna. I’m gonna be honest and say I don’t remember anything about this manga. The art style got me and that’s it. Maybe the story did it too and that’s why I have it on my fave list but... I must have read it too early in the morning and forgot everything ‘bout it. Thing is, if I binge-read-it it certainly is good. SHOUNEN AI for sure...(?)
Me o Tojite 3-Byou. - Aniya Yuiji. You looking for: Good art style? Checked. Angst? Checked. Childhood friends to lovers? Checked. Then I got you some news!!! this is pure as the purest cinnamon roll (at least until you read the smutty doujinshi but that comes later) and If you’re feeling like the world sucks you should read this cup of happiness. SHOUNEN AI.
Yozora no Sumikko de. - Hayakawa Nojiko. This is beautiful. Hayakawa Nojiko’s art style is precious. And this artwork is amazing. The story is full of angst and makes you go YeSSsyyYeSSSss all over. Read it. READ IT. SHOUNEN AI.
Konbini-kun. - Junko. I miss Junko. At least her bl works. She’s by far one of my faves mangakas just because she draws such cute boys I can’t help but love all of them. This story in specific is just perfect. Bullying, the character being actually gay since the beginning, and him coming to terms with it. I just love it. YAOI If you know Junko you know it.

Shoujo/Shounen: some are on-going.
Ao haru ride. - Sakisaka Io. First shoujo manga I ever read. I loved it. The only shoujo manga I’ve ever finished too. Everyone knows it. Angst is at the order, a good female protagonist and Haru being a cute boy since ever. SHOUJO. COMPLETE.
Watashi ga motete dousunda! - Junko. I’m hating the protagonist by the moment but... reverse harem. She’s a fujoshi and by being lucky she’s now with one of the best guys to ever exist in fiction. God blessed her and I want that kind of spell over me too. Funny times at the order. SHOUJO. ON GOING.

Kiben Gakuha Yotsuya Senpai no Kaidan. - Furudate Haruichi. I don’t know why I read this, or when... but it is amazing. I love Furudate Haruichi’s art style and this was my way of getting more full of it besides from Haikyuu!! Mystery solving is always interesting. SHOUNEN. COMPLETE.
CODA. - Hitoshi Ichimura. Yuri!!! on ice from 2010. But instead of ice skating it is ballet and more of an open ending than rings that prove you’re a canon couple. It’s cute, you ship the characters and it doesn’t harm anyone. Read it, more people should love it. SHONEN. GENDER BENDER. shOujo?? COMPLETE.
Tokyo Ghoul - Ishida Sui. I only know my first son TG. I finished my friendship with TG:RE. What will happen to my dearest Kaneki Ken who should be protected at all costs? who knows. The manga is amazing, the anime not so much. SHOUNEN. COMPLETE.
Strobe Edge. - Sakisaka Io. I hate the ending. I hate the main characters. I love angst so I fell in love with Endou, the third wheel the other love interest of the protagonist and THE REAL GOOD BOY HERE HE DESERVED BETTER. SHOUJO. COMPLETE.
Shingeki no Kyojin. - Hajime Isayama. You know the one. Titans. Blood, sweat and tears but without good dancing. The manga is good is2g go and read it and enjoy the cliffhangers and lots of questions. SHOUNEN. ON GOING.

Weeb Story #2
Time for another story. Gather around.
Remember the weeb M I talked about in my previous story? We’re gonna discuss her again, but more in depth. First off, she was a homestuck weeb, and liked ‘smexy yaoi’. (Spoiler, she’s still a major edge lord.) Anyway, she never really talked to me, but of course was ticked off about my art, and hated me alongside T. (Read my first weeb story to better understand.) Of course, she only drew this cringy I-try-too-hard-to-make-my-style-look-unique tumblr/anime lemon way. Literally, minimum effort, no attention to anatomy or anything.
So, first encounter was after her, T, and another girl bullied me to give up my makeup master position in drama. Now, in case you can’t tell, I love deer. I know how to make deer/fawn make up VERY well okay? In the play we were doing, we had a Stag character. Despite them pushing me out of the lead position, my teacher still wanted me to do a lot of the make up anyway. I may not have liked her, but I’m a professional person, and would have done her make up anyway, just like anyone else’s. However, she would run into the makeup room early, just to do her own makeup. (Badly, literally had people tell me they didn’t know what she was after the show.) During the dress rehearsal, I messaged my teacher to let him know what was happened, and requested that he please speak to her so I could do her make up. (I would like to mention, she’s his favorite, despite how he said he didn’t pick them.) He told me to leave it alone and that she looked fine. But god forbid she say we did something. We’d get this giant lecture of ‘Be professional! We are a family!!’
Apparently not asswipe.
Whatever though. I figured that if she wanted to go out with shit makeup, she could. Whatever. Also during this, T was told she was NOT to help with makeup. Guess who ‘helped’ and fucked up everything? I had the actors and actresses coming to me and asking to fix their makeup. (This play included a lot of animal makeup.) Both of them were just DETERMINED to make sure I didn’t get to do my job properly.
That was the first incident.
Now, one day, the Art 4 class had an assignment where you draw 2 random words out of a bucket, and that was your band name. You then created a CD cover and a list of songs. (Keep in mind, I was in 2 independent art studies at this time, and a senior. Art 4 is usually seniors. Due to me being in independent studies, I wasn’t doing this assignment.) Being a student known through the school for being a good kid, I was always allowed to go to the art room. I’d collect my work and head down, since the teachers knew I would complete the work. So, I was down there, chilling. It was about the half way point of Art 4′s assignment, and a lot of the students were still working on their cover art. M turned hers in. Mama B (My art teacher) is smart. She’s been doing this job a while and knows a lie when she sees one. The thing about M was that she always wanted to get done with her assignment ASAP so she could get on her Ipad and look at manga’s, merch, and watch anime, or read Homestuck stuff and scroll through Tumblr. Miss B was sitting at the tables, across from M, when M slid her CD case over with the art and stuff done, telling Miss B she was finished. Class ended and me and my friend were hanging out in the art room since it was break. Miss B called us over and was like, “She didn’t draw this, did she?”
We looked at the cover and HELL NO she hadn’t drawn that. We could tell, and so could Mama B. (Miss B and Mama B are the same person Btw, for clarity) She just kinda hummed and nodded. “Thought so.”
Next day in that class, Miss B had a talk with the whole class, explaining what copyright was and how you could be arrested/charged with it, how you can’t do it in college (obviously), and that it wasn’t creative and all that. M just kept rolling her eyes and huffing, glaring at Mama B. Miss B sat down by M after than and gave her CD back and very privately and calmly explained she wasn’t accepting it and asked her to come up with something else. She even encouraged her as well to try and motivate her, offering to help her brainstorm.
M refused the help, getting all pissy and standoffish. Miss B headed back to her desk and worked on grades and all that while M bitched about how she was a bitch, how she was always grouchy and it was stupid she couldn’t express herself, blah, blah, blah. When did tracing become expressing yourself??? Anyway, like I had mentioned, I was in 2 Independent Studies, as a senior, while everyone else was only in Art 4. I took Art 4 my Junior year and had a lot of senior friends, which I really missed since they had graduated. 2 of them had stopped by to say hi about 15 minutes later. They came over and sat with me and my 2 friends, asking use how we were doing, what we were working on, all that. I was happy to see them and was happily talking to them, not working on anything. (My independent studies basically was me working on college portfolio pieces, refining my style, and drawing whatever I wanted. I had finished my drawing that day, so I didn’t have anything else to work on.) As we’re all talking, Miss b notices that some of the Art 4 kids are slacking off, she she reminds them to get to work and work on finishing their pieces.
Shit you not, I haven’t said 2 words to this weeb and she just ‘muttered’ (AKA, she wanted me to hear it. Jokes on her, I didn’t hear it, but know who did? Miss B.)
M: Well, if they don’t have to work, I’m not going to either.
Miss B has the patience of a saint, but when you say dumb shit like that after tracing and trying to deny it, she’s gonna snap. Mama B shot back to her, (not so privately this time.)
“They’re not even in this class, they’re in an independent study. They’re done with their work while you haven’t even started after 2 weeks in.”
M kinda just sat there like, “Well shit.” But still rolled her eyes and shut up. Still didn’t get started though, just sat there moping on her Ipad and getting on Tumblr.
And after that, all my chill and patience was gone. So, that summer rolled around and my memory is foggy, but I believe she threw shade or something at me on Facebook. I was also still irked she would trace art (still, after graduating), and had sad such rude things to me and Miss B. I can stand her saying things about me, but given that Miss B was such a nice person, I couldn’t stand that. She had also done something to my friend that was absolute bullshit, which I won’t get into. They’ll post it if they want. So, she drew these 2 sketches (absolute monstrosities with no anatomy.) Now, in case you haven’t figured it out yet, I’m petty as fuck and have no problem reminding someone to sit down. One of her drawings was a person (???) sitting on a couch, one arm behind the back of the couch, and the other was a face (??? Lemon with eyes?) trying to be edgy with a phrase relating to madness or something.
Well, what a nice pose you got there. I see you like copying and tracing art. I’m sure you wouldn’t mind if I ‘heavily referenced’ your sketches there. I mean, if we’re going on their logic, we’re not copying if we change a few things. Just referencing.
So, I drew someone sitting on a couch, and Alice from Alice in Wonderlands face, a clock around her head with the phrase, “We’re all mad here.” Added the same caption she did. “Sketches <3 <3 <3″
Shockingly, she was pissy about it, and started to bitch on Facebook, making a bunch of posts.
“Wow, if you’re gonna copy my art at least give me credit or something.”
“lol funny how you’re trying to one up me.”
Wow, I thought you didn’t mind tracing and copying???? You said you were a real artist, and you did that, why am I suddenly the bad person???? Omggggg, it’s like it’s not fun when someone copies your stuff, changes a few things, and says it’s theirs. Wowie. Doesn’t feel good does it? Hypocritical much? (Disclaimer: This is the only time I’ve done that, I hate the idea of copying and tracing someones work. Bases too. You’re not an artist, you’re lazy.)
My art friends (including the senior ones) had been told what happened via me, and was loving it. One of the senior friends that had visited posted,
“If someone is better than you, maybe you should learn from them rather than get mad?” (All these are separate posts btw, Major Shade being thrown, M’s post to that was, ‘Lol. K.” )
My friend, we’re gonna call her C, has ZERO CHILL. You think I’m bad? C is 10x more concentrated with sass than me. C wasn’t having this considering she was also pissed at her for hurting our other friend and being a tracer. She made a status that said:
“Sometimes, people are better than you, and in worse case scenarios, everyone is better than you. Get over it”
I had a bunch of other friends also getting behind me and defending me, since they knew what she had done in the past. (Again, for more context, read my 1st weeb story)
Long story short, M realized she had fucked up and no one was on her side, and unfriended me.
Nice.
Final thoughts: Was it kinda childish? Yeah, kinda. But I figured if she wanted to act like a child, I should get down on her level to try and make her understand. Still, no regrets.
