Captain's Surrender, Alex Beecroft ★★★☆☆ Jan 2024 I feel sure that i have read this before but it's not in my good reads history so I'm adding it now. Overall an enjoyable book but there was a bit too much gay angsting for my tastes, I don't care for stories with moral or religious dilemmas over being queer. Naval bits were fun and exciting. Not sure how their Happy Ending is supposed to work with them both being captains but my best wishes to them  

Hunting the Spy, Tyler Flynn ★★★☆☆ Jan 10, 2024 Didn't really like this book until the last 20% or so. Nathan is really unlikeable and mean to his beloved, Peter, who is precious and sweet and never did anything wrong. It wasn't until Nathan realized he loved and trusted Peter and begrudgingly accepted his help that story became interesting.

King's Man (Outlawed #1), Sally Malcolm ★★★★☆ Mar 29, 2024 Good tension happy ending, likeable characters and side characters.  

A Botanical Daughter, Noah Medlock ★★☆☆☆ Apr 05, 2024 DNF after part 1 of 3. Simon and Gregor just didn't feel like good or likeable people and I just didn't feel interested in following them on their journey. Their relationship dynamic didn't feel happy or healthy either since Gregor seems to constantly bully Simon and ignore his feelings and concerns. Lastly, I'm sorry but digging up the corpse of your housekeeper's bff without consent and experimenting on it in the basement is a line I don't think protagonists should cross. Personally I would give this a 1 star but it gets an extra because it has potential. I think the story would have worked better and been more interesting if it was entirely told from Jenny's perspective, since she's the only likeable character (as far as I read)..

Finding You, Finding Me, Bailey Queen ★★☆☆☆ May 04, 2024 The romance between Henry and Will felt forced. It felt like Henry had more romantic tension with his friend/superior Giordano than Will.  

Knight of Nights, Karin Kallmaker ★★☆☆☆ May 10, 2024 Plot didn't really seem to go anywhere and it ended surprisingly abruptly. Didn't like the coin's melodramatic and mysterious comments. Skyra and Kirstine were likeable characters but their romance felt a bit forced. I wanted to like this but there was too much that wasn't to my taste

Alban ★★★★☆ Jul 11, 2024 Generally I liked this, the characters were likeable, their relationships with their parents were wonderful, and their friendships with cousins and such was sweet. There were a few spots I felt the characters did unlikely things to advance the plot but overall a fun read.  

A Bluestocking's Guide to Decadence (Lucky Lovers of London, #3), Jess Everlee ★★★☆☆ Jul 15, 2024 Overall pretty good but there were some moments where it felt like "eating your vegetables". I love Jo but Emily's perspective was a bit tedious at times.  

The Lighthouse Keeper, Liv Rancourt ★★☆☆☆ Jul 20, 2024 It felt like there were too many plot threads that didn't always make sense. The romance between Rafe and Vincent felt a bit forced.  

The Duke at Hazard (Gentlemen of Uncertain Fortune, #2), K.J. Charles ★★★☆☆ Jul 24, 2024 I didn't particularly enjoy this book. Cassian wasn't likeable until a good way through the book and the villain was too mustache twirling and over the top bad guy. Meanwhile Daizell was perfect and did nothing wrong!!!

Silver & Gold (Seth & Raider #2), Katherine Diane ★★☆☆☆ Aug 03, 2024 I r really wanted to like this book, but the ratio of action to romance was off. 90% of this book was sex or talking through trauma. It got to the point where I would skip over sex scenes and dialogue, because how many times do you need to know that raider and Seth have hot sex, and that they love each other enough to work through trauma. It's fine, we don't need to know all the details!!! The last 10% of the book was enjoyable, because that's when the plot finally kicked in.  

Never Darling (Fortune Favors the Fae, #6), Sam Burns ★★★☆☆ Aug 06, 2024 It was a bit strange that this story was set almost entirely in the human world with fairies just kind of being there at the end. I think the concept for the story was interesting but the slow burn over 3-4 years was implausible. A lot happens in 3 years and you're just not going to remember someone who stopped by once! Meanwhile the background story with Everett and Peter actually seemed more interesting than the main story. I also just don't like stories with hot rich nice guys who just swoop in and solve all of a poor person's problems. Not my kind of fantasy. I think overall it was a taste mismatch for me, and people with different tastes than me will probably enjoy it.  

Prince of Poison (Fortune Favors the Fae, #7), Alice Winters ★★☆☆☆ Aug 08, 2024 This felt like 2 books smashed into one - there wasn't enough clues for the reader to understand the layers until 60% through. The plot was convoluted and relied too much on characters explaining it. Lastly the language and dialogue felt really off, they all sounded like teenagers instead of fantasy characters. I'm not exactly expecting Tolkien, but am expecting significantly less "like"s and "I guess" es. Overall I think this had the potential to be a great story but could have used stronger editing.

These Old Lies, Larrie Barton ★★★☆☆ Aug 24, 2024 Feels weird giving this a 3/5 because I loved AND hated this book. I think it had so much potential and mostly a good plot, it's the timeline of events that makes it unbearably slow and full of needless suffering. I think the arc of the story, which takes almost 30 years to resolve, really could have been resolved within 6 years. I think it would have been a tighter storyline and more hopeful story if the author had compressed the timeline and reduced the characters suffering and pining.  

Prince and Assassin (Perilous Courts, #1), Tavia Lark ★★★★★ Aug 28, 2024 Absolutely loved this book! Both Julien and Whisper are absolutely loveable and have a great dynamic. Assassin falling for target is a classic trope for a reason!!!

You're the Problem, It's You (Mischief & Matchmaking #2), Emma R. Alban ★★☆☆☆ Sep 02, 2024 UPDATE: the book improved significantly literally on the next page after i quit. I did go back and finish the story. so maybe its a 3/5? DNF at 40% it was just too annoying and stressful to keep reading. Bobby Mason was mostly delightful, but Demeroven was whiny, rude and annoying in every scene he was in. Raverson and the evil Stepfather were both too obviously moustache twirling villains and also unnecessary plot points. I didn't believe the attraction between Bobby and Demeroven one bit it was just exhausting to see them continuously arguing and in fact arguing in circles, until they end up on opposite sides but still arguing.

Liar City (Sugar & Vice #1), Allie Therin ★★★★★ Oct 05, 2024 I really wasn't expecting to love this as much as I do!! I'm not a fan of contemporary fiction but I love Allie Therin's other books so I thought I'd give it a try. I ended up staying up until 3 AM to finish this book in a day  

Peacemaker (Sharps & Springfield, #1), Morgan Brice ★☆☆☆☆ Oct 08, 2024 This is one of the most frustrating books I ever read. I should have put it down but it was so close to what I wanted. This book is like going to the freezer for a rich creamy ice cream and only finding a ice encrusted popsicle with freeze burn. The romance between the main characters felt forced and unappealing. They were both incredibly bad at giving and receiving "I want to fuck you" cues and they're also just bad at their jobs? Most of this book was dialogue, with other characters telling them what they had already discovered. The "evil plot" was unnecessarily convoluted and I have no idea how any of the characters reached the conclusions they did. I wish I could have liked this book  

You Should Be So Lucky, Cat Sebastian ★★★★☆ Nov 30, 2024 I won't say this book made me care about baseball, but it made me not mind the fact that baseball was here. The romance was charming and the slow burn addictive, although it was probably too slow for my tastes. I think what really kept this from being a 5 star book for me is that it didn't really feel like Romance - it felt like a mid-century period piece about 2 gay men finding a life together. WHich is good, don't get me wrong, but not what I was expecting.

I feel like there was too many details of this fantasy world introduced too quickly, and the writing style felt a bit -hm- like it was trying too hard to be high brow? Eventually though the tension between the characters kicked in and the world started to make sense and then it became a whirlwind to the dramatic finish!! (Although I'm a little sad we didn't get DOUBLE WEDDING) The setting is very much like Swordspoint, or the Astreiant series or Daughter of Mystery, but less white, which is great. Would love to see more books in this universe.  

Boyfriend Material (London Calling, #1), Alexis Hall ★☆☆☆☆ Dec 25, 2024 DNF at 5% - i just couldn't get into it - I don't really like first-person perspective, and I especially don't like it when the narrator just goes on and on about what a disaster they are, and how HARD their life is, and BOO HOO all anyone cares about is his famous dad. I suppose this makes the character relatable for some people, but doesn't do it for me.

The twins on the other hand, were planned, but nothing had prepared them for the chaos that Nathan and Natalie would bring. A new broken object every week, a dozen fights for the TV every day, and yet were nothing short of tiny tornadoes when they joined forces.

It couldn’t be more perfect.

“What time did Jackie and Emilia say that they would bring the girls back?”

“6:30, I think.”

“Ah. So we have time till 7:00.” They shared a knowing smile. Two aunts taking their nine and six year old nieces to the mall meant a complete raid of the toy store, and a new guitar.

“You need to stop letting everyone spoil the girls just because you have a soft spot for them, Ethan. Ally’s grown old enough to understand that she has her daddy wrapped around her finger, and we don’t need Nat coming to that realisation as well.”

“I don’t- I can’t believe you would accuse me of not loving all my children equally!”, he exclaimed in mock offense.

“Mhmm. So why did I have to come up with an explanation to tell Nathan why his dad wasn’t on board with ordering dessert when he asked for it, but relented once his sisters kept bugging him for another five minutes?”

He opened his mouth in protest, but decided against saying anything for his own good. “Well what can I say? They’ve inherited their mother’s persuasiveness. And I can’t really say no to you, can I?”

Alyssa’s lips curved upwards at that. The playful look in her husband’s eyes caused her to finally break into a grin. “At least you’re self-aware.” Stuffing the rice into the bird she added, “But I can’t exactly tell our son that his dad is too in-love with his mom that he sees her in his daughters and hence can’t say no to them. He’d gag in disgust.”

He chuckled and wrapped his arms around her, resting his head in the crook of her neck. “That he would. Alright I’ll try a little harder to resist their charms. Wouldn’t want my only son to end up hating me.” He said it without a hint of worry over it becoming true someday. Over the years, he’d learned to put aside his fears of not being a good father, and with the help of some therapy, and Alyssa’s unwavering love and support, he’d locked up his insecurities in a box and let it sink to the bottom of the ocean.

They took the stuffed chicken and put it in the oven, washed their hands and plopped down on the couch for some rare downtime.

“Crap.”

“Everything okay?”

“Fred’s mom got called in, so she’s dropping Nate off on her way to work.”

Ethan sighed. “There goes the hour I planned to spend with my wife, who I barely get to spend enough time with these days.”

“I swear, you were never this busy when you were chief. I have no idea why my workload’s ten times bigger.”

“I do.” Ethan smiled with pride. “One usually does have a lot of work when they’re at the front lines of the battle for making free healthcare accessible for every single person in the country. My brilliant wife, though she could choose to leave most of the work to her very competent team, opts to take it all upon herself. So that’s probably the cause behind all the extra workload she complains about.”

She smirked and perched herself onto his lap. “Well your very brilliant wife also knows that you called my team very competent just to avoid hurting my feelings, and that you and I both know that they’ll be running around like headless chickens without me taking care of things.”

“I know, love. But you can still make them do a little more instead of working yourself to the bone while still making sure that you have at least one meal with the kids every day.”

She sighed. “Yeah, to make sure that they don’t forget what I look like.” She leaned in closer. “Besides, are we really going to spend our last few minutes of peace talking about work?”

Just as she uttered the words, the door burst open, and Nathan kicked off his shoes and jumped onto the couch as Alyssa slid down from Ethan’s lap. She shot him a look that very clearly meant What did I just say?

Ethan gave her an apologetic look and ruffled his son’s hair. “Hey buddy. How was your day at Fred’s? I know you wanted to spend more time with him.”

“I did, and we were just about to open his new LEGO set when Mrs. Watson told us that she had to run up to her office for some emergency meeting.”, he pouted. “But it was a nice day. We watched Thor: Ragnarok and Luca, and we would’ve watched another movie if his dad didn’t tell us that two movies were enough for a day.”

Alyssa shot him a mildly stern look. “Well he was right. You’re too young to have movie marathons just yet. Two are more than enough, unless you want to have a headache.”

“But mom, I’m not too young! I’m a big boy! I can swing along the monkey bars at the park faster than Natalie, and soon I’ll swing across buildings just like Spider-Man!”

“Well Spider-Man got bitten by a yucky spider before he swung across buildings. Do you want to be bitten by a gross and poisonous spider?”

“Mommy, not all spiders are gross and poisonous. Dad told me that when I was four and got scared of them at the zoo.”

She rolled her eyes. Leave it to her husband to convince her kids that insects were anything short of creepy and disgusting. In reality, they were, but as someone who ran a mile away at the sight of a butterfly, she wasn’t going to accept that.

“That’s right, Nate. Some of them are certainly very poisonous and dangerous, but that doesn’t mean that you should be scared of them. If you maintain your distance and admire them from afar, there should be no problem at all.”, he said with a pointed look at Alyssa, who just huffed in annoyance.

Nathan giggled, his brown eyes lighting up with amusement. He loved watching his parents playfully bicker. It was way better than seeing them- ugh, kiss.

“We were pretending to be superheroes and Fred used his full name for his pretend name cause it sounded cool, and it is. Fredrick Anthony Watson sounds like something from that show you and mom watch with the guys in the stuffy suits.”

“When did you see us watching the show with the guys in the stuffy suits?”, asked Ethan with a slight hint of concern. Whatever he and Alyssa watched on their free nights was definitely not kid-friendly.

“I don’t remember. Maybe a few months ago.”

Their year old puppy, Ivy, woke up from her nap and bounced into the living room to jump onto her favourite person. Nathan squealed with joy as the fluffy hair of the dog tickled his nose.

Ethan and Alyssa smiled at each other. Getting another dog after Jenner was a decision that took a lot of convincing, but their kids were responsible enough and it was impossible to say no after two years of constant pestering.

“Fred told me that he was named after his great-grandfather William, and that he was this really cool guy who saved a bunch of guys from getting mugged in a dark, dark alley.” He turned to look at his parents as Ivy snuggled into his lap. “Who was I named after mom?”

The question caught her off guard, and she glanced at Ethan for backup.

When they knew that they were having a boy, they immediately knew what to name him. They hadn't, however, anticipated Nathan Daniel Brooks-Ramsey to ask such a question this soon.

Seeing his wife at a loss for words, Ethan spoke up. “C’mere Nate.” He pulled him closer and pressed a kiss atop his head. “We once had a friend named Daniel. He worked at the hospital as a nurse, and he was close to your mom and Aunt Sienna when they were interns.”

Having found her voice, Alyssa joined in. “He was an amazing friend. He was the only nurse in the hospital who helped me out when things got messy, and cheered up Aunt Sienna when no one else could. He’d join us for picnics and movie nights, and you could always count on him if you needed something at the hospital.” She took a deep breath, and Ethan nodded. “Things were going well, but then in my second year, something really bad happened.”

“Oh no.”

“There was this bad guy, who wanted his revenge on another bad guy, and he was ready to risk his own life, and the lives of everyone around him to do so.”

“That’s horrible! Who would want to do something like that?”

Ethan smiled wistfully. “A lot of people in this world actually do. You’re a good person, so you know that it’s wrong. But some people aren’t, and they don’t care about other people getting hurt because of their actions. That night at the hospital, Danny tried to tell the bad guy that it was wrong, and to think things through. But he didn’t listen, and did something that hurt both himself, Danny, Uncle Raf, another friend of ours, and your mom.”

His little eyebrows creased with worry, Nathan asked, “What happened then?”

“He… he died. Along with our other friend, Bobby. Do you remember what we once told you about an autopsy?” Nathan nodded his head. “Well Danny asked for his body to be autopsied, and thanks to him, we were able to find out what was wrong with mom and Uncle Raf.”

He fell silent for a moment, remembering the horrors of the day, and how eternally grateful he was to Danny for being the reason he didn’t lose everything. He couldn’t imagine a life without the love of his life and his children, and he wouldn’t have either if not for the sacrifices that were made.

He looked up at Alyssa, and she squeezed his hand in support. “We’ll tell you more when you’re older, but to make it short, you’re named after a hero too. If it weren’t for him, I wouldn’t have you, your sisters, or mom here with me.”

Nathan wriggled out of his dad’s arms, and set Ivy down so he could hug his mom as tightly as he could.

“Well… if you can hear me Mr. Daniel, I just wanna thank you. Thanks for saving my mom. I love her so much and I’m so thankful that I got to meet her because of what you did. I wish I could’ve met you, you sound like a really cool person, and I’m sure you were. So yeah, thanks. A lot.”

Alyssa’s eyes glimmered with unshed tears, and she held her son as she expressed her silent thanks along with Ethan.

What they had was precious.

Fifteen years had passed since they first met, and yet each day they fell in love a little more like they did when they held hands for the first time in the dim light of the NICU watching over little Ethan, or when she finally got to see the real him the first time she visited his place; the first time in years he let someone know a little of the worries residing deep in his heart.

With all the odds against them, it was a miracle that they survived, even more so that they managed to raise three perfect children who had more love to share than they could ever comprehend.

And they’d never forget all the reasons that made it possible for them to survive.

Ding!

The timer on the oven went off, and they got to their feet to get the chicken.

“Was he a good cook dad?”

“I… don’t really know, Nate. Your mom knew him better than I did.”

“Well there was this one time where he helped Aunt Sienna bake an amazing cake, so I guess he knew his way around the kitchen.”, Alyssa recollected fondly. It was for Jackie’s birthday, one of the few nights where the competition was completely forgotten about.

Nathan’s face melted into a glowing smile. “I love cake. So I guess I really would’ve loved him.”

She mirrored his radiant expression. “You definitely would’ve.”

“Why don’t you go play with Ivy while mom and I get the food ready? You can help us with the dessert later.”

“We’re having dessert?!”

Ethan grinned at his son’s excitement. “You bet we are.”

“Yay!” They watched as Nathan ran off to go play fetch with Ivy in their enormous backyard.

Ethan pulled Alyssa in for a sweet, lingering kiss as soon as he was out of sight.

“You’ve been wanting to do that for a while now hmm?”

“Something like that.”, he murmured as they broke apart.

She could see the ever-increasing strands of silver in his brown hair, and the faint wrinkles along the sides of his forehead, but his clear blue eyes were just as loving and devoted as she remembered from over a decade ago.

“We have a pretty good life, don’t we?”

Ethan kissed her again. “No, we have the perfect life.”

I just downloaded Lovestruck after seeing so many pretty pictures and blog posts 🙈 and the range of choices is kinda overwhelming.

...uff I'm not really good in recommending for others bc I can only speak about my opinion and what I liked but I will try(this will be long):

if you liked daniel/romeo than I think you will like leon kwan from queen of thieves too, his route was at the beginning a rollercoaster ride of many feelings but I swear he doesn't disappoint at the end, he's a giant badass with a heart of gold and he protects what he loves, so maybe you give him a try😚...

...so for jack (and if you like some paranormal or mythical guys) I think there are some different possibilities: at first we have nathan cayde and sascha orosco from wicked lawless love (a ghost and a incubus)...i liked both routes very much...especially bc the mc is a strong independent woman...

...then we have my fav titan astraeus from astoria fates kiss...i've played hades route when suddenly he appeared and I swear he has a wonderful poetic tongue and I found him sweet and was very happy when lovestruck released his own route, actually he is our enemy but at the darkest hour only he is at our side and it get better...

...than we have my three dorks from havenfall is for lovers razi nasar, diego escalona and antonio vasquez (one djinn and two vampires)...every route has his own charm, the pickering between them (especially the vampires) is funny, not to speak about the steamy times of course there are angst too but which otome route hasn't drama🤷‍♀️...

...i recommend you this series too(bc I think you will definitely find something for yourself):...

Bryce found himself hunched alone in a bar stool downtown Boston. He swirled the brown liquid in his glass, brows furrowed in remembering the scene in the hospital room. 

His face contorted with the pain piercing through his chest, the possibility of losing Heather once again sinking like a sword. He racked his mind for an option, but it seems all is lost in that battle.

He thought back to their last outing together, and he was so certain that something was there. So why did she choose to stay with someone else instead of being with him?

His lips formed a thin line, his hand rubbing over his face in frustration. The emotions within turbulent and unnerving. Was he just too much of a fool when he thought he had a shot with her? 

This is exactly why Bryce Lahela didn't want to commit. It was far more easier for him to seek momentary connections rather than build permanent ones. He didn't want to relive the rejections-filled past from his adolescence, at the time of his parents' criminal convictions. 

Yet here he was again, suffering the same consequences of wanting something permanent in his life. Something that could bring him happiness. Something better than him being alone in the middle of a crowd of drunken patrons. 

He should've stayed in his own lane of hook-ups and one night stands instead of chasing for this relationship. 

So the first thing he did when he realized that that door is closing, was to go back to his old stomping grounds. 

But why can't he will himself to look around? 

As if on queue, an olive-skinned woman slid herself beside him, her sudden presence invading his thoughts. With a half-smirk and green catty eyes, the coils of dark hair loosely wrapping her head. The mere sight of her was mesmerizing. 

"I know you," she said, almost in a purr. 

Bryce looked back at her, and a long-forgotten heat warmed him up. And it wasn't because of the alcohol in his system.

"I guess my reputation is my charm," he replied, leaning forward. He loosened his tie whilst sipping from his glass. 

"Oh I know all about your reputation," her voice made him shiver, her fingers ever slowly trailing a path towards his arm. "You're the one with magic hands," she whispered, her brows dancing as she spoke. 

This commanding woman was pushing his buttons in all the right places, her sparkly black cocktail dress that clung on her body tightly wasn't making him feel suddenly parched. 

Her hand continued to venture up his arm, and eventually the side of his neck. As it followed the line of his jaw, Bryce couldn't help but lean closer. 

Nothing was stopping him at the moment. 

Miles away from being sober, his lips blew a short burst of air into the woman's bare neck, after which he got the chance to breathe in a whiff of her perfume. 

The jasmine scent was all too familiar. It conjured the image of the woman who Bryce fled away from tonight. 

Heather. 

Snapping out of the trance, he took a step back. Gone was the sexual tension that floated in the air mere seconds ago. Bryce only shook his head to the woman and paid his tab, before almost sprinting out into the cold rain that continued to flood the concrete pavement. 

He let the drops of water wash all over him until he was soaked. With it, the inevitable tears began to fall, which he didn't hold back. He also didn't mind how it easily reduced the numbing effect of the bottle of Jack Daniels that he just consumed. 

Like a thief in the night, the woman of his dreams snatched what was left of Bryce's vulnerable heart. He knew, deep down, that it would take a long time before he can get it back.

"This is following an intensive investigation by the joint special task force created as the public clamored to protect Massachusetts famed senator. 

"We are joined today by one of the victims, Senator Ed Farrugia, after he gave his testimony today at the Boston courthouse."

The video flicked from a female news anchor to the steps of the city's courthouse, where the politician was joined by Chief DA Tanaka. Heather's hazel eyes however wasn't on the prominent people in the screen, but instead drawn to the tall figure standing beside the older man, his intimidating stature made more pronounced by the sharp gray suit that contoured just enough to please.

Bryce. 

Saying his name, even in her mind, made her involuntarily shudder with regret, aware that between them was an undeniable attraction that she just couldn't shake off. Ever since her kidnapping, she couldn't stop herself from thinking about what could've been. Was it just too late for them? Will it only remain a connection that can never be explored? Will it ever be something more? She knew, deep down, if she could change the world overnight, she wanted to try. If there was anything she could learn from her almost dying, it was the sobering truth that life was too short to be restrained by inaction.

But she hadn't been able to speak to him for a while now. He didn't answer his phone nor returned any of her texts or messages. She hoped to get the chance when she was scheduled for her recorded testimony. To her dismay, another ADA visited her and took her witness account. 

She thought he was just busy with the case, but she sensed that he was avoiding her altogether. Her free time provided her so many hours to rack her brain for the reason why. To this day, that question was left unanswered. 

Danny raised his gaze to Heather, as he felt her pulse beat faster than normal. He turned to the TV monitor in the hospital room, stifling a chuckle as he found the reason behind her palpitations.

"Let's try to do this again," Danny said, making Heather's attention swivel to him. 

"Why? Something wrong?" she asked, obviously confused. 

This time, Danny snickered, grabbing the remote from her and switched the channel. The gesture was enough to make her fluster as it dawned on her what the nurse was insinuating. 

"I can't put your last BPM on your chart, Heather. We dont want Dr. Ramsey to not sign off on your discharge papers today. Two weeks of him pestering us is enough torture to last a lifetime," he scoffed jokingly, referencing how the senior attending relentlessly chased the hospital staff to put her case on priority. 

She curtly nodded, her mentor's crass actions embarrassing her further. 

"Thanks, Danny." she sheepishly smiled, hoping the two words were enough to express her appreciation of how the hospital helped her get back on her feet during the roughest period of her life yet. 

Danny returned her gesture, before getting back to taking her pulse. Satisfied, he recorded it to the clipboard in his hand, as her friends thundered into the room. 

Sienna, Elijah, Jackie and Aurora all stepped inside, each carrying an assortment of food items. They moved their Sunday brunch to that day in celebration of Heather's discharge. The welcome noise warmed her heart, their usual banter flowing like music to her ears. 

The thundering of her deep-seated emotions momentarily toned down, as she enjoyed the company of the small family she found in Edenbrook. 

Outside, the weather was warm with no clouds threatening to dampen the surroundings. 

It was going to be a good day.

As the last of the questions were addressed and the cameras were turned away, Bryce sighed in relief. 

With the news crews dispersed, Chief Tanaka left to head back to the DA's office, leaving him as second chair to wrap up all the remaining paperwork. He strutted into the courthouse, the ADA facade well in effect. 

It was an understatement to say that the past few weeks were hectic. 

Interviewing Declan Nash and Jordan Anderson was like being pulled into opposite poles. Their personalities were so polarizingly different that Bryce suspected that there was a more to the case than what appears. 

So he advised the special task force to dig into that angle. The FBI's investigation is still ongoing, and he is betting against it finishing soon. 

Today was a day of accomplishments, and Bryce's mood was better than it was ever since that night. Or so he thought. 

As his mind shifted back into the present, he caught the unwelcome sight of Agent Rafael Aveiro conversing with someone in the hallways. He managed to hear a glimpse of the conversation as they got into earshot. 

"You're background would be invaluable to us, Agent Rafael," the strange man in the tweed-colored jacket said. 

"This is such a timely offer that I couldn't refuse. I'll let you know as soon as I wrap up my last case." Bryce heard Raf say. 

"Of course. But please don't keep us in the Interpol on our toes, Agent." 

"Of course, Agent Nazario." 

Taken aback, he stopped, trying to understand what had just transpired. Why was Rafael taking a job with the interpol? 

Once Bryce saw that the special investigator was alone, he approached him, words blazing. 

"Interpol? Seriously, Raf, this soon?" 

Raf turned to face him, surprised at Bryce's sudden interjection. 

"I don't see the need to explain myself to you, ADA Lahela." He politely said as he begun to walk away. 

"But you just got back together! Why leave for an overseas job this soon when she needs you the most?" Bryce's voice rose, echoing into the nearly full hallway. He honestly didn't mind, weeks worth of bottled up frustration threatening to surface. 

A more puzzled expression filled Rafael's face, the line of interrogation making him turn around and stare back at the prosecutor. 

Rafael recognized the look on Bryce's face. It was a mirror of his own haunted reflection. Of a lost love, never to return. The confusion gave way to understanding. 

It made him soften his stance, and place a brotherly hand on the lawyer's shoulder. 

"Look, I don't know why you think that, but Heather and I..." he paused, taking a deep breath as he tried to bury the painful memory of their goodbye into the back of his mind. "We broke up. The same night that she was admitted to Edenbrook after her kidnapping, we talked and agreed to go our separate ways." 

Bryce couldn't believe what he was hearing, his knees weakening with the revelation. Amber eyes widened in shock and feeling like an idiot at the same time. 

He smiled despite himself, the nightmares of his imaginary rejection transformed into a wonderful dream. The door that he thought was closed is now unlocking, and he was determined to blow it wide open. 

With a hasty thank you and goodbye to Raf, he turned the soles of his leather shoes and raced to the door of the courthouse. 

Bryce didn't dare waste another minute to look back.

Zajok a nappaliból – Traxelektor 2021 03

Tavaly tűnt fel Son of the Sun EP-jével Guedra Guedra  كدرة كدرة, és az Anlo Kinka szerzemény bekerült az év végi Grande Traxelektorba is. A marokkói Abdellah M. Hassak képlete tulajdonképpen egy fordított fúzió, melyben bass, ghetto house, break, trap keveredik a berber és arab felvételekkel, meg egymással, meg ahogy fúj a szél. Szóval ez az egész nagyon impulzív, néha kaotikus, máskor meg annyira dallamos, hogy a The Arc of Three Colours úgy került a fülbemászóba, hogy a Traxelektorba nem fért be, ugyanis egy hétig nem tudtam tőle szabadulni, és a harmadik reggelen már nem jó ugyanazzal a dallammal ébredni a fejedben. Sűrűre vágott, váltásokkal teli abszolút korszerű, amit Guedra Guedra tol, a Vexillology pedig nagyon kimunkált debutlemez.

Két elsőalbumosunk van még. A Carcass Identity Matthieu Levet és Ernesto González kollaborációjának eredménye. Az azonos című album jellemzően középtempós, néha lightos, máskor sujtós (Spiraling Paradigm) pszichedeliával átitatott, fém keménységű műanyag elemekből precízen összeszerelve, mely ha megragad, nem hajlik el, nem enged. (...rossz hold kelt főől, mikor a carcasst ettem, rossz hold kelt főől.) A Dekalb Works - a másik elsőalbumos – is kollaboráció, Austin Peru és Daniel Creahan kettőse. Néha a legjobb Neotropic pillanatokat idézi, absztrakt, belassult, de azért halad, nagyon jók a hangminták, és mindig van valamilyen tér, amibe ezek bekerülnek. A Duologue egy nagyon érett lemez, amiből sokat levon, hogy ha a számcímeket összeolvassuk az jön ki, hogy: a play or part of a play with speaking roles for only two actors.

A továbbra is névtelenség porába burkolózó Desert Sound Colony kijött idei első EP-jével. A brit arc egy olyan pók, aki a house, a  garage, a breakbeat, a techno és az electro közé feszítette hálóját. A Synthetic Nixon EP tojásait a breakbeat-es szeglet mellé rakta jobbára. Most már negyedik éve az egyik legmegbízhatóbb dancefloorista, ezúttal a Two Rums Please a húzótrack. Igazi klubos arcvonás, hogy 17 EP/single és 7 év után sincs nagylemeze. Magyar színekben versenyez ugyanebben a ligában a CT Kidobó, elsősorban electro műfajban. Egy két évvel ezelőtti interjúban Martin bevallotta, hogy IDM-et szeretne csinálni, és már tavaly az Exboyfrienddel, most pedig az újonnan megjelent Impulse & Inhibition Part 1. EP-vel ez kétszer is teljesült.

Anarchic Artificial Intelligence a címe az új Mouse on Mars lemeznek, amit a 2018-as Dimensional People-ról már ismert Dodo N’Kishi ütőssel, és Louis Chude-Sokei iró/tudóssal készítettek, kinek a hangját használták programozók segítségével egy az album elkészítéséhez fejlesztett beszédszoftverhez. Hogy pontosan mi történt AI és az egerek között, az nem teljesen tiszta számomra, de amit Werner mond a téma kapcsán, nagyon pozitív:  Hagynunk kell, hogy az AI olyan tulajdonságokat fejlesszen ki, amelyek emberi tulajdonságok, mint például az empátia, a tökéletlenség vagy a zavar – na igen, ez a művész hozzáállása a robotikához, aki az emberszerűséget többre tartja, mint a hatékonyságot. Amúgy meg nemrég elővettem az Iaora Tahitit (1995) és két napig jött velem mindenhova annyira egyedi és tökéletes. Az AAI nagyon messze van a Tahititól (Tahitóthtól), térben és időben meg hangzásban is. Egyetlen dologban nem: Andy Toma és Jan St. Werner továbbra se hajlandó határt szabni zenei elképzeléseinek, mindig ott van bennük a meglepetés, dehát mint tudjuk az egerek pándimenzionális lények kitüremkedései az univerzumunkban, sz’al semmi meglepi.   Nathan Fake életműve olyan mint egy prizma, amin Nathan néha forgat egyet. Voltak időszakok, amikor olyan szögben állt, hogy egyenesen bazzta a fény a szememet (fülemet) – elnézést! – aztán akadtak kellemesebb korszakok is, főleg 2017-től említenék 3 szöget: Providence (és remixei), Sunder és Blizzards. Most pedig újabb fordítás után itt a Sanxenxo, ami minden NF védjegyet visel, és csak egy kicsit másabb az említetteknél, mégis az. Én látom a fejlődést, meg néha párhuzamokat Aphex Twin dallamosabb műveivel, meg ennek a zenei világnak a buktatóit is, de Nathan elég jól kerülgeti a gödröket. Aztán az a lemezt záró 1983 című ambient opus - azzal valahova nagyon mélyre nyúlt le a szerző.

Igazából ez a lemez tavalyi, de valójában idei, mert vinylen már tavaly létezett néhány éber kivételezett számára, de digitálisan most jött ki az Electronic Sound Recordings-nél. John Corrigan és Jon Drukman kajakkettese a The JDs második albumáról van szó, a remek című The Texas Chain Store Managerről (az első az Education volt 2010-ben) Na de kik ezeeek? Mert hogy John Corrigan ismertebb nevén Jack Dangers, ő meg ugye a Meat Beat Manifesto nevű jövőre 35 éves intézmény epicentruma. A másik János főleg Bass Kittens néven ismert, meg hogy az 1992-es The Ultraviolet Catastrophe pszeudójának Trip Harder című underground slágerét 6 év múlva Chemical Brothers-ék felmixelték és márványba vésték a híres Brothers Gonna Work It Out-ra (azon amúgy volt Meat Beat is a Mars Needs Women-nel). Ha most nekiállnék a The Texas Chain Store Manager kapcsán meat beat-ezni, az udvariatlanság volna, de akkor is az van, hogy ez egy kurvajó MBM lemez, mintha valami egészen új irányt talált volna Dangers, csak ez nem új irány, ez egy duett, azokból is az egyik legkellemesebb meglepi, mert az egész album repül, száguld, elszáll, geggel, van bass, van acid, van ebm meg napsütés, dehát ez Kalifornia. A lemez végén két brutál flessbekk is beüt, a Proust elején az Orb - Towers of Dub-jának nyitányán hallható Victor Lewis-Smith hangminta Haile Selassie-s parafrázisa Prousttal, a másik a Kratwerk Autobahnjá-nak merész felcicomázása. Kraak ajánlásával jutott el hozzám a az UVB-76 saját kiadójánál az Okvlt-nál tavaly év végén megjelent Tales From The Far East válogatás-sorozat második etapja. Az anyag brutálisan erős, néhány igen magvas track-kel (Ended with Xavei - Black Veins), de a kedvencet a fülbemászóba tettem (Kӣr - Mandra). Megragadóan változatos lemez tényleg keleti ízekkel.

Intimate Immensity címmel jelent meg Valentina Magaletti és Tom Relleen duójának idei albuma. Érdekes, hogy nincsenek hosszú elszállások, minden track 4-5 perces, és ez most a fényesebb, úszosabb, sőt talán tavasziasan légiesebb világa a Tomagának, amit megtör néhány markánsabb mű (King of Naples, British Wildlife). Összességében nagyon kellemes, de nálam még mindig a Futura Grotesk (2014), The Shape of the Dance (2016), Greetings From The Bitter End (2017) a kedvenc Tomaga lemezek, mert azok jobban mutatták a szenzációs alkotópáros erényeit. Írtam ezt pár napja, viszont ahogy telik az idő, egyre jobban összeérik a lemez, és az, hogy kevésbé markáns, már nem is olyan fontos. Néha elég annyi, hogy az ember csak üldögél a napsütésben

MCs: There’s quite a few pov characters but the main one is Aaron. The entire story revolves around him.

Plot: Aaron is a writer. All he wants is to have a happy life. But, it all comes falling apart when Aaron’s dad dies in a tragic accident. And Aaron makes a wish that the world was a soap opera and that his dad wasn’t really dead. It comes true. And now there’s a murderer on the loose.
