So I'm new to the Fandom and I'm really confused about Hopeless and fandom. I get they wrote horrid stuff but I dug deeper and... they warned people about minors trying to get into nsfw spaces? And that was actually turned against them too by multiple minors? And it seems anything dark at all is looked down on until it's something like chick x lightning, but jackson and lightning isn't fine. All this problematic stuff isn't fine, but this one thing is. Or is it a blind eye being turned? I'm confused about the entire Fandom really. And really scared away.

OK. long post here and a lot to go through so everything addressed goes under the cut.

long and short of it is, anon: don't let yourself be disheartened or scared to post or participate in fandom! tag appropriately, filter out what you don't want to see, internet etiquette, etc. etc.

so for anyone not in the know: hopelesss is a user in the cars fandom that wrote and created proship art and writing. the main thing they got under fire for was a darkfic of their oc's that depicted sensitive topics. they also additionally brought a nsfw drawing of a cars character in disneyland (?), of which they claimed no one else saw it but the action itself is still very weird. you don't do that dude.

now, thats all i know. my whole take on the issue is (as someone who thinks callout posts aren't necessary at all) that it was quite overblown.

as to correct and inform you, anon, you should know that while hopeless did warn minors about entering nsfw spaces, they were incredibly irresponsible about letting minors follow them and following minors. it was not "being turned against them too by multiple minors" which i'm not quite sure what you mean by that? the minors (and some adults too) were just speaking about their unpleasant experiences with hopeless and disproving hopeless's claim that they "didn't talk about it with anyone who didn't want to hear it" -- which they did do in a public server.

frankly, i find the following minors thing the most egregious fault because in other fandoms i have been in, all the 18+ accounts are very strict about not letting minors follow them. blocking accounts without ages in their bio, blocking minors, unfollowing/avoiding any minors, etc. etc. and i believe that is a basic thing anyone who runs an account posting 18+ content should do.

the whole thing with hopeless wasn't a case of a random user minding their business and posting what they wanna post, it was someone who was actively making other people uncomfortable and being irresponsible about their content and account

this I don't quite understand fully and may misinterpret so sorry in advance.

i'm not sure if you mean to imply with your first statement that lightning x chick is a "dark/problematic ship" but it isn't. people headcanon lightning's age to be however they want but it's pretty clear in the movie that he is an adult and i don't see mcchicks any differently than say, lightnesco or lightningstorm.

im not sure where you get the idea that ppl dont like lightningstorm when it's a pretty popular ship if ao3 tags are anything to go by, unless that's a typo. lightningstorm's definitely not a darkship either way unless someone interprets them like that or headcanons a huge age gap or something.

as for the whole problematic stuff in general -- if you don't personally like and see these ships or any others as "problematic", that's fine and okay! people like what they like and it's a matter of interpretation. it's not a "blind eye being turned", it's just people liking what they like and probably interpreting things differently.

you will rarely get any actual flack or harassment for posting, i can assure you that. I can't control your feelings towards the fandom and such but if your fears are in being harassed out, than that is very unlikely and will not happen, i promise you that. be internet safe and curate your experience however you like

Veronica owning colored chicks

Heather Chicken, Heather Duck, Heather McChick, and Blue Bird

Veronica got them via Dad's Friend as a way to show she is mature by taking care of them. Accidentally got attached. Cannot name the Blue one, so decided on Blue Bird. All of them are actually chickens. Color coded obviously.

Heather Chicken : Red. Rebellious. Always tries to escape. Appreciates being warm.

Heather Duck : Green. Always eating. Kinda ironic ik. Secretly Veronica's favorite one.

Heather McChick : Yellow. Loudest chirp. Only one not colored.

Blue Bird : Blue. Quietest. Smallest. Practically the baby. Always asleep.

whats more tragic: one-sided/unrequited mcchicks where mcqueen has feelings or chick has feelings

Oh man thats a tough one for real. Because my first thought is that Mcqueen is such a drama queen he would pine endlessly for chick and he'd put all his energy into trying to make chick love him, especially prior to the plot of cars 1. But if this is after cars 1, mcqueen has his own family and support system so i think he would come to terms with it. Chick on the other hand already has his crew, but he always wants more, more, more. It's never enough for him. Settling for a life without Mcqueen once he's fallen in love is like tearing his heart out. He might acknowledge that Mcqueen doesn't return it but he'd never stop trying to win him over.

This reminds me i had an idea ages ago about these two :) Prior to the plot of cars 1 they were sort of together- hanging out mostly. Mcqueen would invite Chick to go stupid places he wanted to go but had no friends to go with, and Chick would let him foot the bill. They got along really well, have a lot more in common than they'd realised beforehand. They often commiserated to each other about old shitty boyfriends and family members. Then mcqueen disappears off to RS and meets his family, meets Sally. Decides to go back there when the season ends. He does not invite Chick there. He never invites Chick again. Mcqueen finds himself a crew and drops Chick like a hot potato - it doesn't matter if it's intentional or not. Chick is left in the dust, alone, again. As always.

[And the worst part is, he knows McQueen is happier now.]

Nowhere did I or anyone else in this post say that gay sex is weirder than monster sex, or any other kind of sex. I did say that “[w]anting to fuck Chad McDude down the street is just as strange to me as wanting to fuck the mothman.” I did not specify who was wanting to fuck Chad McDude. Could be a dude, could be a woman, could be a nonbinary person like myself. It could be Karen McChick down the street instead of Chad McDude. As an asexual person, sexual attraction is all equally strange to me, regardless of whether it’s a woman wanting a man, a man wanting a woman, a man wanting a man, a woman wanting a woman, an enby wanting a man or woman, a man or woman wanting an enby, a man wanting the Mothman, a woman wanting a werewolf, an enby wanting an alien -- all of it! It’s all equally strange and therefore to me all of it is equally valid! Like! How did you reach hard enough to get something deeply homophobic out of that statement??

Secondly: I did not say anything about gay sex or monster sex. Sexual attraction is a separate thing from sexual acts. Gay sex is perfectly natural and not strange at all. I’ve had gay sex. Hell, I’ve been to sex clubs, which is how I figured out that I didn’t experience sexual attraction and am personally sex-averse; despite my personal aversion to sex I don’t believe that any sex between consenting adults is any weirder or less weird than any other. Monster sex, however, literally does not exist. The Mothman isn’t real and thus cannot fuck you. (I realize that for some people out there that’s rather disappointing to hear and you have my condolences.)

The fact that someone managed to misinterpret a universally sex-positive post in the most homophobic way possible is...well, it’s very Tumblr. I invite @lumberjahn and anyone who might have misinterpreted my words this way to re-read the post and apply even an ounce of reading comprehension or critical thinking.
