I've been poking around your website, I really like it.
I'm inspired to put together my own silly site, you've made a lot of posts about that. I know how to get started with a website builder or whatever, but that's kind of boring.
I'd like to imitate the look of Ao3's log in page.
I have several specific Ao3 searches that the 'favorite tag' section just can't manage. I have all of those links in a google docs but it's boring and clumsy. I want buttons to press.
Your website mimics wiki, so... can you point me in the direction to get started mimicing Ao3?
My website doesn't just mimic wikipedia, it is a MediaWiki site, which means that from the ground up the software it's running on is the same software as Wikipedia. When I write pages, I'm using wiki markdown ==Like This== for section subheads and [[like this]] to direct to other pages on the site, etc.
The reason that I chose to do this is because it's relatively easy to set up a site this way; I don't know enough about CSS to get a site to look like Wikipedia without running it on mediawiki software, and I don't know enough about CSS to get something to look like Ao3 without running it on OTW software.
Like MediaWiki, the OTW archive software is also open source, so you theoretically could set up a literal archive of your own, but it is not *easy.*
Walter from Squidge.org has created documentation for implementing OTW's software and has talked about helping others to set it up as well, so that is one option.
If that's not the kind of labor you're looking for (and it won't be for a lot of people! it certainly wasn't for me!) you could try something like using a site like wordpress and building a custom template. That would *also* be a lot of work (in terms of learning CSS) but might be easier than figuring out the whole backend as well as getting the visuals you want.

Vocaloid Lyrics Wiki is Migrating to Miraheze!
Been a while since I made an actual original post, and not sure how many of my original followers are still here (or even care about this kind of thing, considering I'm mainly a politics blog nowadays, but you know, this is basically the only social media platform I have anymore, not counting Discord).
Anyway, for the past few years, I've picked up a CN -> EN fan translating hobby and have been sporadically translating some vocal synth songs, posted at my own Wordpress as well as the Vocaloid Lyrics Wiki. Those who were in the fandom in the 2010s have probably heard of the wiki before, since it was basically the main hub of translation activity back then.
Well, almost fifteen years later, it's still going strong! And, with recent changes in implementation to Fandom policy, the wiki has finally decided to throw off the shackles of Fandom webhosting and move to Miraheze instead. I'll copy-paste the blurb I wrote for other vocal synth wiki discord servers about this:
Hi, so some folks might be aware of this already, but Vocaloid Lyrics Wiki has migrated to a new site on Miraheze. The admins of VLW has written a Google Doc explaining in detail the whys of the migration, if you want to check it out, but the long and short of it is that the new policy on lyrics removal has made our stay on Fandom untenable. Miraheze, in contrast, has agreed to host us and been much more transparent on actual policy. And, since they're on a newer MediaWiki installation with much more freedom in terms of what extensions we can install, we've been able to implement new templates and quality of life improvements on the new wiki! There's still a few kinks to work out on the new wiki, but we're open for editing now! Feel free to spread this message to other relevant servers/websites (with the exception of the old Fandom wiki -- the admins are planning on making an announcement themselves over there, once they're ready). And if you have any further questions, you can join our Discord or comment on our General Discussion page on the new wiki.
I am 100% biased because I helped with the migration (and have been wanting to move off Fandom for ages now), but I think the new site looks great!! And if anyone ever visited the old site and went "wow Fandom sucks, clicking back immediately", now you don't have to do that!
I'm also Emiliers on there -- as I am everywhere -- so feel free to hit me up!

Update!
We are in the process of meticulously moving to a new platform for a better experience!
This will take a bit more time as we try to make sure nothing is left behind before the switch, so we ask for a little more patience until the move is complete.
Further Information:
Originally, NaruSaku Wiki was developed with a platform named "Mediawiki". Mediawiki is the software many wikis use. Although it was a great collaboration tool, we ran into a lot of issues with spam and malicious editing.
To protect content better and for a more WSYIWYG ("what you see is what you get") experience for editors, we switched to "Wordpress". Wordpress is a lot more closed off, but allowed us to built out forms and other tools to make creating and filling out page easier.
While Wordpress has been great ease of access, we have run into many issues over the years upgrading the site even though there are not many plugins or fancy features in use. It's too risky.
For this reason, we are transitioning the site back to Mediawiki. Mediawiki and its extensions have many many good changes over the last 10 years, so we hope for a smoother page creation and edition process for editors.
That said, Registration and editing permissions will be manually approved and given at our discretion to avoid spam and malicious editing issues we faced in the past.
An announcement will be made as soon as the migration is complete. Please look forward to it!

I feel like there needs to be more study or debate about the foss+enterprise thing. wordpress.org/wordpress.com, mediaWiki/Fandom, chromium/Chrome, countless others.
bc like undoubtedly having a builtin corporate user is super useful for a developing foss project. hey we don't have this feature? okay sure we have professional developers familiar with the codebase who can write it and push it to the foss side of things. it also sometimes definitely leads to capture or misuse of the foss side, or the foss never really being something that can be community run since crucial pieces are missing. at the same time--damn, mediawiki and wordpress are good ecosystems!
which is not the same as the foss+nonprofit foundation that has moneymaking ventures, though that's also not always straightforward

A Year End List of Fediverse Development I'm Hopeful for in 2024
As the year ends, thought this would be a good time to list some of the projects and group efforts relating to the Fediverse I’m very jazzed about. Some I’ve helped advise, some I’ve just applauded them from a distance.
I think there has been more innovation that benefits user experience inside the larger Fediverse in the last year or so, than in some of the giant closed siloes of Social Media in ten years.
Some key ones that I’m involved in helping move downfield as a formal or informal advisor:
ActivtyPub Test Suite: crucially important as big players enter the Fediverse to have a toolset to define what “ActivityPub compliant” means and doesn’t. nlnet.nl/project/F…
BlueSky/AT and Mastodon/ActivityPub Bridge - am giving some recommendations and will be testing its important project linking these two protocols of the open social web. Watch this space lots happening there soon.
IFTAS - Distributed Trust and Safety Effort- am advising this critically important group. Helping fortify and up the distributed moderation of the 20,000+ Fediverse servers. Few efforts for maturing the Fediverse are more important than this one: about.iftas.org
Mammoth Browser - latest release with Smart lists - a mix of curated lists and basic algorithms to surface the best of them. I’m curating some smart lists for this, very worth checking out. getmammoth.app
Projects I’m applauding from a distance:
All the efforts innovating at Fediverse UI/UX: this includes MastodonBirdUI - which we have implemented on our server at Indieweb.social, Tangerine UI, Elk, and Phanpy. All are great, and Phanpy I think actually may be my favorite social UX of ANY social service, decentralized or any of the siloed commercial services. phanpy.social
New server communities: Fascinated at all the efforts at creating new servers and services: Obviously including Flipboard ( Flipboard.social) Medium (http://me.dm) and fascinating to watch Mozila what they are quietly building at the very bespoke version of their Mastodon server at mozilla.social
The deep commitment of WordPress into the ActivityPub space is inspiring to watch Mattias and the team’s work building out a whole new blogging and webpublishing space integrating into the Fediverse. Will be doing all I can to help organize efforts to move that into a canonical plugin status.
Another key Open Web Platform - Wikipedia (@[email protected]) and Wikimedia (@[email protected]) - embraced the Open Social Web and the Fediverse this year. Bringing with them lots of different Wikipedia accounts, but also launching a whole server devoted to Wiki creators of all types. (https://wikis.world/about)
What I wish for all of these projects, may they thrive and may their gene pool increase.
And of course, looking forward I now do predict we see Threads Federating
I say this as I’ve seen breadcrumbs of code surfacing in the apps, and early features such as rel=me support in Threads, and that at every chance they have had to reaffirm their commitment to joining the open social web, they have voiced that commitment and not watered it down.
We will see. It’s still almost all talk until they deliver. But am hopeful now, and also remain on the same strategy as I voiced before on this blog.

How to install MySQL server on Ubuntu 22.04 LTS Linux
MySQL version 8.0 is a free and open-source database system used by most web applications and sites on the Internet. Typically MySQL is part of the LAMP (Linux, Apache, MySQL, Perl/Python/PHP) stack. MySQL heavily uses popular open-source software such as WordPress, MediaWiki, and others as a database storage engine. Let us see how to install MySQL server version 8.x on Ubuntu 22.04 LTS Linux server, including settings up a new database, users and fine tuning server config.

At the Young Wizards end of things: a progress report
Those of you who saw the November post about the general updating of all the Young Wizards sites (secondary to this call for opinions/advice) will already know in a general way what’s been on the agenda. That agenda has been moving forward in fits and starts, and finally there’s enough action to be worth reporting on.
The most complex part of this has been the updating and relocation to a new domain of the Young Wizards Discussion Forums. With the very welcome assistance of the support team at vBulletin (and thank you, Trevor!), the Forums have been updated to vBulletin 5 and moved into their new home. They don’t presently look that much different from the way they did before, but that situation will change over the next few months as we start exploiting the various bells and whistles that the new version of the platform has had hung on it.
Also relocated (though not yet open for business) is the Errantry Concordance. All the content from the former MediaWiki-based ErrantryWiki has been successfully ported over into a new WordPress installation there, and the Concordance as a whole is being rebuilt as an online encyclopedia, preparatory to being seriously expanded. This is going to be one of those “do it when you have a few moments to rub together” projects, and there’s not much point in attempting to put an “opening-by” date on it… not least because right now I have several writing projects on the desk, including one that I can’t discuss at the moment but which will be occupying most of my creative time until mid-year.
The remaining Young Wizards website business will involve folding the contents of the present Young Wizards: Manual Labor and Young Wizards: Interim Errantry sites into the soon-to-be-refurbished Young Wizards portal and the upcoming YoungWizardsSeries.com site. The general purpose is to have a clearer demarcation in the online sites between information about the books (and interstitial works) themselves, and the meta having to do with the series as a whole. When all this work’s been completed, these reconfigurations will make it a lot easier for people interested in the series (or interested in revisiting it) to find the information they’re looking for. Because… let’s just say it may turn out to have been a good idea, in the next year or two, to have all this business dealt with.
Anyway, that’s where we are at the moment! I’ll drop a post about it when there’s anything new to report.
Thanks, folks!

Kelebihan XAMPP
XAMPP jauh lebih mudah di konfigurasi dan digunakan dibandingkan dengan web server lainnya;
XAMPP merupakan software lintas platform yang tersedia untuk berbagai sistem operasi;
Hanya dengan satu perintah saja semua web server + database stack dapat dimulai dan dihentikan;
Software ini memiliki banyak modul penting seperti OpenSSL, PhpMyAdmin, MediaWiki, WordPress, dan masih banyak lagi.
Kekurangan XAMPP
Konfigurasi dan pengaturan XAMPP lebih sulit dibandingkan dengan WAMP
Kelebihan WAMP
Sangat mudah mengubah konfigurasi pada WAMP.
WAMP membuat pengkodean PHP dan pembuatan database di platform Windows menjadi jauh lebih mudah;
WAMP tersedia pada sistem 64-bit dan 32-bit.
Kekurangan WAMP

An Update
TL;DR Newly posted fics, sorry I forgot to say anything here. I have reasons.
Mayonaka no Rendezvous, new Azureshipping fic (potential to become multi-chapter) - FFnet & AO3
Anzu's been having nightmares for weeks now; what if things had gone differently in the duel between Jounouchi and Yuugi, and she *had* been crushed? What if Kaiba hadn't saved her? Berating herself for thanking Mokuba and not Seto, one night at midnight, Anzu gets up and walks... finding herself at Seto Kaiba's mansion. (Originally written for Azure Week 2018/First Person POV)
The Speed of You, new(ly posted to FFnet) Initial D x Yu-Gi-Oh! eventual Azureshipping fic - FFnet & AO3
If you want to catch something that always seems out of reach, you need to be faster. The problem is, the more Anzu tries to escape the weirdness that is Domino, the more it seems to catch up with her.
Being on so many social media networks is a pain, especially when some of them *cough cough* TUMBLR *cough* DO STUPID SHIT and everyone abandons them for a while. But not long enough to put them out of business or anything. And hey, maybe they promised to change or some such. I don’t honestly know if that’s happened with Tumblr, but occasionally I do get notifications about stuff here.
SO, if you want to know if I’ve updated/added a new fic, please check fanfiction.net or archiveofourown.org first. Those are the primary places I post. I have a Wattpad account, but I have never used it. Someone else grabbed the name “Azurite” there and I’m salty about it.
I do not bother posting fic on DeviantART anymore, frankly because it was never a platform for the written word and I don’t think it’s trying to be. I will leave the fics I have posted there, because why the heck shouldn’t I (unless I massively revise them and/or there are no comments)?
If I remember to announce a new chapter, I will post about it here, but... yeah, as you can tell, I’m more of a reblogger here than an original content poster. So don’t count on Tumblr notifs for my stuff. Sorry.

I do have a website exclusively for What Doesn’t Kill You, where I intend on posting everything related to the fic, from chapters to fanart to the music that inspires me.
As far as my other fics, my goal is to regularly update my Fanfiction Status page on my site so that it shows where the most recent updates have been posted. As I recently discovered, I had posted some fics to one archive, but not to another, and while there often is crossover between audiences, I know that’s not always the case.
If I do prioritize an archive, it’ll be Archive of Our Own.
I did formerly run an eFiction-powered Azureshipping archive, Dragonfayth, but the software powering it became abandonware, and the people who supposedly took over for it haven’t posted updates in many months, and don’t seem interested in having a Patreon to financially support their efforts. I’ve heard rumor of WordPress-powered archives using a plugin, but I have yet to see said plugin in action or regularly updated for public consumption. If someone knows about WP Fanfic Sites or Plugins, LET ME KNOW.
WikiFic is dead, long live WikiFic. I hate MediaWiki with the fire of a thousand suns, and so WikiFic is officially dead. I attempted to upgrade the software numerous times and always ran into walls. I may have succeeded with the most recent update, but last I checked, the site infinitely redirects when you try to go to it. I really don’t know how to solve it, and frankly it would be easier for me to migrate the content that ISN’T replicated elsewhere (e.g., a TCG card database) to Darkness Rising, my Yu-Gi-Oh fansite.

PHP

Okay but like... site hosting is actually not that difficult or that expensive. We need to stop doing that.
I used to use Third Generation for hosting a MUSH back when I used one. They're like $10/month and IIRC they'll install a wiki for you. Even if you never use the MUSH interface itself, you can use the wiki.
MediaWiki is not that difficult to install, and there are hosting services which will install things for you. Some of these options are free, and many are quite cheap.
You can buy a domain through Namecheap and have them host your site for less than $50/year -- $4.48/mo -- and right now the first year is $1.48 month.
This took me 30 seconds of Googling, and yes, I do run a website for a job and I am married to someone who does this kind of thing for a living but it really is not that hard. I've set up a wiki out of the box before. It's not that hard.
One of the things that I think we're going to have to really start getting back to in the next few years is the independent internet. When I started hosting my own site in 2000, I learned how to set up WordPress on my own domain/hosting. I learned HTML back in the 90s and CSS 15 years later. I learned how to set up and manage my own wiki, how to run the administrative side, for various RPGs over the years.
A lot of us have gotten out of the habit of setting things up ourselves or modifying them ourselves, but it absolutely can and should be done and we shouldn't discourage people by telling them it's too hard or too expensive. It absolutely is not. Anyone with basic knowledge of how to edit one of those horrible Wikia wikis can learn how to set up and manage a MediaWiki site, and should learn how to do that.
The best way to fight back against the monopolization of the internet is not to give up and say that using tools to create independent sites are too difficult, y'all.

If you're familiar with wiki software such as MediaWiki or DokuWiki, you're probably aware that most wiki software keeps a copy of every single revision made to a wiki article. All of those are excellent points.
But.
The fandom.com wiki crackdown is almost certainly about ad money, not payment processing. This is about "If I'm paying you so that people will see my most excellent new movie/video game/teeth whitener/car polish, my most excellent new product better damn well NOT show up on pages that are about fucking monster titties. Even if there aren't any pictures."
The fix for this problem is why the OTW made AO3: gotta own the servers, and then you can decide what content goes on it.
AFAIK there are no indie-owned servers with wiki services at the moment. There are, however, other wiki options, including "get a free wordpress site and install mediawiki software on it yourself."

Don't laugh at this because "Oh those silly monster f*ckers." This is a giant freaking RED FLAG just like with Only Fans.
