Real Music For Abstract People Volume One 1997 Techno / IDM / Breakbeat

From Silver Recordings, a short-lived abstract electronic label that was run by Koen Lybaert of the Belgian rock band Starfish Enterprises, comes the underwhelming and pretentiously named Real Music For Abstract People Volume One. With this comp, it really seemed like Lybaert was trying to convey that the actual reason that you don't like his collection of mostly monotonously boring and weird tunes is because you just don't get it. And admittedly, there's kind of a clever baked-in response with the album's title; "if you don't like it, then you're just not cool enough to understand this music, man!" But as someone who's been exposed to their fair share of "out there" electronic music, let me just say that this really isn't a very good or fun listening experience.

But it's not terrible. A few tunes are halfway decent, namely "Manic Depression" by Syndic, "Shag" by Freeform, and "One Day" by The Mellowtrons, but all of those tracks seem to have one thing in common: they're all missing that one, final piece, that one thing that would make their song move from "just good" territory to "very good" territory.

Questo album racchiude tutto quello che sono e che amo fare. Racchiude la mia musica... quella che in automatico viene fuori quando appoggio le mani sulla tastiera del computer.

Non so se rispecchia la domanda del mercato discografico, semplicemente perché non me lo sono chiesto. Ho fatto solo quello che sentivo. Ho usato suoni e melodie a me familiari, che rievocano atmosfere anni '80... Perché è il periodo in cui mi sono innamorato della musica.

Alcune tracce sono già state pubblicate, ma molte sono nuove ed inedite. "It Never Ends", la song che dà il titolo all'album, è un tributo ai Daft Punk, gruppo che ha letteralmente sconvolto la mia vita. Nell'album ci sono due brani downbeat, "Colony" ed "Eleven".  Li ho scritti e prodotti a occhi chiusi, immaginando alcune scene di film cult che si sono fissati nella mia mente fin dalla prima volta che li ho visti, diversi anni fa.

C'è anche una track molto elettronica, "Symphony". L'ho composta dopo aver visto un dj set di Eric Prydz all'Hï Ibiza, altro artista fondamentale per la mia crescita creativa. "Synthesis", la traccia che apre l'album, invece è un tributo ai Justice, che con la loro "Genesys" hanno segnato il record di ascolto in loop nel mio iPod dell'epoca..

Spero che chi ascolta "It Never Ends" possa provare delle belle vibrazioni. Il mio intento DA SEMPRE è quello di riuscire a trasmettere quello che ho dentro. La musica mi ha aiutato davvero, specialmente nei momenti più tristi. Ho sofferto di depressione, sono anche diventato ipocondriaco... Ci sono alti e bassi, ma sono ancora qua e combatto, grazie alla mia famiglia e grazie anche alla mia musica.

Ho composto molte delle tracce contenute in "It Never Ends" in momenti veramente bui, ma grazie ad esse sono stato meglio. Per questo vorrei davvero riuscire a trasmettere un po' di positività a chi ascolta la mia musica.

Luca Guerrieri, dj producer toscano conosciuto in tutto il mondo il 20 maggio 2019 pubblica 'It Never Ends', il suo album di debutto. Le 15 tracce dell'album insieme al Continuos Mix finale spaziano attraverso una moltitudine di generi di musica elettronica, essendo ispirati ad una carriera che dura ormai da più 25 anni. Con un mix di musica inedita e 6 delle sue tracce più rappresentative, 'It Never Ends' è il culmine di un'esperienza musicale davvero ampia.

In passato Guerrieri ha già pubblicato una traccia fondamentale come "Harmony", guadagnandosi un supporto importante da Pete Tong, uno dei personaggi chiave della scena dance mondiale con il suo show su BBC Radio 1, per cui 'It Never Ends', che contiene brani di grande successo internazionale come  'Tears' and 'Colony', è davvero il coronamento di un percorso musicale importante.

Il disco si apre con l'affascinante 'Synthesis', che con il suo synth progressive si ispira in qualche modo a pesi massimi come i Daft Punk, e sta accanto a brani come 'Colony', 'Mellowtronic', 'Beltempo' e all'eccellente 'Eleven'.

Nell'album ci sono anche brani più tech come 'Involved', che prende una traiettoria più vicina alle sonorità da 'main room' e fa capire la prospettiva artistica di questo disco. 'Go Back' è invece un esempio lampante di classic house ritmata ed energica. Un giro di piano euforico si mescola agli archi in un una serie di crescendo orchestrati ad arte: è proprio il tipo di brano perfetto per far decollare l'estate!

Tra i 15 brani di 'It Never Ends' spiccano 'Destino' e 'Neptune', tracce perfette per essere proposte sui grandi palchi dei festival. Non manca infine 'Holding Me', brano in qualche modo vicino alla progressive trance: una voce si mescola ad un arpeggio di archi sintetici in un'euforia che non sembra voler mai finire.

Luca Guerrieri è un dj e produttore toscano. In attività fin dal lontano 1995, vive e lavora a Follonica (GR), nel suo Double Vision Studio. Il suo sound è davvero difficile da definire, visto che attraversa tutti o quasi i diversi generi di musica elettronica. Ad esempio, 20 maggio 2019 uscirà  il suo primo album, "It Never Ends": tra le 15 tracce (9 inediti e 6 tra le più rappresentative della sua carriera) ci sono pure alcuni brani downbeat. L'album esce su Claps Records, label che Luca gestisce con l'amico Marco Roncetti.

Tra le tante produzioni a suo nome vanno citate almeno "Tears" (suonata anche nel main stage del Tomorrowland) e "Harmony", battezzata da Pete Tong nel suo programma su BBC Radio 1. La traccia per due settimane consecutive è stata al numero uno della Dance Chart, Flow ed è stata supportata da top dj come Tiesto, Chuckie, Sam Feldt, EDX...

Negli anni Luca Guerrieri ha remixato brani di decine di artisti internazionali tra cui Bob Sinclar, Marshall Jefferson, Sidekick, Dirty Vegas, Watermat, Roland Clark, Ferreck Dawn, Rufus Du Sol, Ruffneck, Jutty Ranx, Crystal Waters, Jestofunk, CeCe Rogers, D.H.S, Darryl Pandy, Moony (...)

Ha poi dato notevoli frutti la lunga collaborazione di Luca Guerrieri con Federico Scavo. Tra le tante tracce di successo ci sono "Strump (Blow It)", "Bug", "Que Pasa", "Balada", "Funky Nassau", "Parole Parole", "Live Your Life (insieme a Barbara Tucker)" e pure alcuni dei più importanti remix di Scavo (ad esempio quelli di brani di Jovanotti e Boy George). Insieme a Shorty (Radio Deejay, m2o), Luca ha invece coprodotto "Canta Canta", "Vazilando" ed "El Sonido", mentre con Tommy Vee "Bang Bang" e "Press Play". Un'altra collaborazione consolidata è quella con Alex Kenji con cui ha prodotto tanti brani tra cui "Funky Beats", mentre con Fuzzy Hear ha realizzato a quattro mani "Disco Action"...

Tra i molti club internazionali in cui si è esibito citiamo almeno Privilege (Ibiza), Sankeys (Ibiza), Cielo (Dubai), Carrusel Club (Sofia), TQ Club (Sofia), Papaya Club (Zrce Beach – Croazia), Elephant Du Congo (Amsterdam), mentre in Italia ha fatto ballare Peter Pan, Cocoricò, Villa delle Rose, Tenax, Music On The Rocks,  Baia Imperiale e decine di altri club. E' stato poi dj resident del Tartana (Grosseto) per ben 16 anni (dal 2000 al 2016), mentre dal 2011 al 2015 ha portato il suo sound al Setai (Bergamo).

Luca Guerrieri nel 2017 ha fondato Meet Music, una convention totalmente gratuita che si tiene a Follonica durante l'ultima settimana di giugno. L'obiettivo è quello di aiutare chi si approccia alla musica a capire meglio la professione del dj, mettendo a disposizione l'esperienza di molti professionisti. Inoltre ha partecipato come docente per due anni allo Jagermeister / Jagermusic Lab italiano.

It's the first Sunday in 2018 and perfect for a #VinylAndBeerSunday. I was saddened by the news of the recent death RAY THOMAS. He was one of the original founders of THE MOODY BLUES. I have loved their classic music that they produced in the late 1960s and 1970s. There was no other band that had their classic progressive rock sounds (and I love the Mellowtron). THOMAS was one of their vocalists and their flutist. He was instrumental in their collected sound as a band. Tonight, I am spinning their 1972 release SEVENTH SOJOURN. This was their eighth album and released near the end of their classic period. But what a gorgeous album with tunes like LOST IN A LOST WORLD, NEW HORIZONS, ISN"T LIFE STRANGE, and I"M JUST A SINGER IN A ROCK AND ROLL BAND. I found tonight's listening session appropriate as this album contains one of my favorites tunes from RAY THOMAS. His FOR MY LADY is one of the songs that is seemingly forgotten by many. But it is a very delightful tune - and RAY is at his best. Candidly, I once wrote a story for an imagined movie based on this tune as a potential soundtrack when I was a teenager in the 1970s. I am listening to this fine disc with a new (to me) brew from CULMINATION BREWING COMPANY in Portland, OR. Their 4 & 20 IMPERIAL BLACK INDIA PALE ALE is a dark roasty brew with a coffee like finish. It is not my favorite style but I liked it more as I drank it - and as it warmed a bit. A really solid brew - and I would like to try more from this brewery. So....what are you listening to tonight?
