listen I love ravenpaw as much as the next guy he gets nostalgia bias from me too but the way people list and remember him as one of the most prominent main characters of the first arc, a protagonist, firestar's lifelong bestie, a true staple of the series is so funny. who invited my man blud bro thinks he's on the team

OOOOH an ask game? Don't mind if I do! (I'm allowed to ask this anonymously, right?)
Characters: Sabine and Ezra (what can I say, I am a hopeless Sabezra shipper 💕) and background Kanera would be neat
Prompt: Percy Jackson AU! (if you're into Percy Jackson. If you're not, just something mythology-based)
I must confess, my entire knowledge of Percy Jackson is summed up more or less in this one post, so that's nooooot really my area of expertise 😅 HOWEVER!!! I do in fact have a mythology-ish based AU well ok technically it's an AU of a semi-mythology-inspired film that's been spinning around in my head for a while and it's got both ships in it so here ya go! :D

This had been the worst week of Ezra's whole life.
(Well... second-worst week, maybe.)
(That whole Pompeii deal had been a real bummer.)
His half-brother and closest friend was dead. He was on the run for his life, searching for a goddess who was also almost certainly dead. He'd almost drowned himself on the way to the island Kanan had told him to find. Then one of the native residents had dragged him out of the ocean—and promptly took him prisoner. Now he found himself being led through the city with his hands bound in front of him, on his way to who-knows-what.
The architecture was cool, though. It reminded of him the time his parents brought him to visit Rome, way back when.
A yank on the rope binding his hands made him trip on his own feet, and he stumbled.
"Keep up," the scarily buff, armored, middle-aged woman holding the other end of the rope ordered.
"I'm keeping up!" Ezra argued, feeling more than a little annoyed at all the fuss. "You don't have to drag me! I just came here to—"
"We know," the two warriors on either side of him said in unison, their voices menacing and irritated.
Right. Maybe he'd been repeating himself a bit.
Ezra kept his mouth shut as they led him through a city that looked like it had been raised from the glory days of Athens—though admittedly the glory days of Athens were before his time—and into a small amphitheater.
A woman with sleek black hair and a furred cloak was standing on the other side, arms crossed, looking down imperiously at him.
Her.
It had to be her.
Forgetting himself for a second, he stepped forwards past the women warriors and approached the queenly woman.
"Hi! I'm Ezra. You must be—"
A hand seized his shoulder and forced him down onto one knee and a fierce, feminine voice barked:
"You do not approach the Queen as equals!"
"Sorry! Sorry!" he winced, offering a bow that he hoped would placate the woman. "I'm Ezra. A friend sent me here."
The Queen looked down at him for a second longer, then nodded to one of the scary ladies out of his line of sight. "Bind him."
"Wha—bind me? I'm already tied up! And I'm—what the—"
Another rope was looped around his torso and drawn tight, and Ezra nearly jumped out of his own skin as it started to glow. "Ah! Is that supposed to happen?! What is this thing?"
A new voice—female, like all the others, but startlingly youthful, and right behind him—spoke, answering his question.
"The lasso of Hestia compels you to speak the truth."
"I am speaking the truth, darn it!" Ezra nearly spat, craning his neck to look up at the girl on the other end of the rope. She'd dropped to one knee to loop the rope around him, and was at eye-level, just behind him. "I didn't come here... to... lie...e...e..."
He trailed off as he got a good look at her face, and did a double take, then grinned.
"Oh, hey! It's you!"
She raised an eyebrow at him.
"Uh, thanks for saving me, by the way," he said, the words spilling out of him unexpectedly. "I didn't get a chance to say that before you tied me up." He blinked a few times, squinting past the bright sunlight directly behind her, and blurted out— "Wow. You're really pretty."
She ignored his words and looked up at the Queen with a dry smile: "Well, it's working."
The Queen stepped forwards, descending a step towards him. "Who is this friend you claim sent you here?"
Words choked in his throat, and the ones that came out weren't the ones he meant to say.
"My brother."
The Queen raised her eyebrows and said nothing at all.
"My—half-brother. One of them. I have—a lot of them. Or—had. They—mostly died. We all have the same father."
The girl holding the freaky glowy rope spoke up. "You're a demigod, aren't you?"
He swiveled his head to stare up at her in astonishment. She tilted her head to one side impassively, but explained her conclusion.
"No mortal has eyes like yours." She raised an eyebrow. "Zeus?"
Ezra pushed past the surge of anger and nodded once. "Zeus."
"My condolences," the girl said, and she sounded genuine. "What disguise did he use on your mother? Swan? Bull? Sentient flame? Another god?"
Ezra scowled. "Does it matter?"
"Not really, but I'm making a list of reasons we're glad he's dead, if you want to contribute."
"In that case, he impersonated her husband."
Her eyes widened and she whistled softly. "Oh, that's low."
"I know."
"You must be one of his youngest," she said, resting an elbow on her knee and tilting her head to one side, holding the rope loosely in one hand. "You can't be more than two thousand."
Ezra managed a laugh. "Ah, I stopped counting after the first eight centuries."
"And you've been living out there this whole time? On your own?"
"More or less. Also, you probably shouldn't hold the rope like that; I could escape really easily."
"You said you weren't here to hurt us."
"I'm not. It's just the principle of the thing."
She gave him an amused look. "You couldn't take me, anyway."
"Not with all those knives, no. Hand-to-hand..." He shrugged. "I might."
The girl leaned a little towards him, a spark in her eyes to match the half-smirk on her face. "You wanna try me?"
Ezra returned the look with a grin of his own. "Why not? I've got time to kill."
The Queen cleared her throat loudly, and Ezra jumped. He'd forgotten, momentarily, where he was. The Queen and most of the warriors were staring at them with unimpressed and occasionally disgusted looks—and the rest of them were looking away, clearly trying not to laugh.
Well. That was embarrassing.
"If you're done..." the Queen said, her glare directed more towards to girl than Ezra.
The girl winced and looked away, mumbling: "Sorry, Mother."
Mother?
The Queen was this girl's mother?
Then that meant the Queen wasn't the one Ezra was looking for.
Ezra cleared his throat and tried again. "My brother sent me here to find someone. My brother told me that if anything ever happened to him, I was supposed to go to Themyscira and find... ah... Hera."
There was a soft murmur of voices around him and the crowd shifted, and he could swear he felt the glowy rope tense slightly.
The Queen shook her head. "Hera is dead, just like the rest of the gods."
Ezra nodded, and tried to gesture with his arms, forgetting for a second that they were bound. "That's what I thought, too! But Kanan always said, go to—"
"Kanan?"
The singular voice gasped aloud from the back of the crowd, and instantly, all else fell silent.
The gathering of women parted, and a single warrior moved forward—shining in golden armor, with dark hair twined back in two braids and luminous green eyes.
Immortal eyes.
Even the Queen moved back as the woman brushed through the crowd and knelt before Ezra.
He looked at her, and knew.
"You did survive," he exhaled. "You escaped the slaughter of the gods, too."
She shook her head.
"The Queen of the Gods is dead. But she created me as her own—and I have her name." She seemed to swallow some emotion down. "You came here to find me?"
Ezra nodded.
"Because—something happened to Kanan?"
"We were trying to protect a town from soldiers. We hadn't realized how many there were. Kanan—held them off. He didn't..."
Hera squeezed her eyes shut and nodded her head, and the Queen's daughter reached out, touching Hera's arm with gentle sympathy.
Ezra got the feeling there was something going on that he didn't understand.
"You... knew... Kanan?" he asked hesitantly.
"Once. Long ago." Hera exhaled slowly, and opened her eyes. "Before Themyscira was sealed away... I was his wife."

Random fun fact (New Age Au)
So. I think I've mentioned I really like having language barriers, right? Well. Hear me out.
Nightmare is super well-rounded in his languages. Most dialects aren't too far off from eachother (like the romance languages using root words from latin) so it's not usually impossible to take wild guesses. He, Cross, Reaper, Geno, Ccino, and Dust are all really quick on either already knowing dialects or picking up on them.
Error, Fresh, Farm, and Lust all struggle with dialects different from their own, but can figure it out if given time.
Killer and Horror? They have it rough.
I haven't mentioned it really, but I've been chewing on these two having trouble w/ basic literacy when Nightmare hires them.
For Killer, he was exclusively taught the Old Tongue, the equivalent of Latin but for monsters. His temple didn't allow him to learn to read modern language, and it's only because he was clever that he managed to figure out how to speak it with Chara. He learned some words and phrases vaguely through signs around towns, but if he were given a book he'd probably not be able to read it, even in his 20s or so when Night brings him to the castle. It doesn't come up for months. His orders are usually word of mouth + the few written things he's given he can mostly understand. I think the only reason someone notices is because Ccino spots him in the library (with the cats) a lot, and because when Nightmare asked Killer's advice for how a letter was worded, Killer had to ask Night to read it out. (He can also speak so fluently + skilled that it never occurred to anyone.)
I also think Killer, in a force of habit, only writes his notes or messages in the old tongue. Very convenient when it's supposed to be coded. Not convenient when it's him letting Dust know he borrowed a robe from the stable.
Meanwhile, Horror was much the same as Killer with picking up on writing from signs and people speaking, but he's just a lot slower to learn and wasn't very shy about how little he knew. His family basically speaks the opposite of whatever it is spoken in Orchard, not even the sane root words, so it's a tough learning curve to figure out writing. And sometimes Horror will do that thing where he doesn't know the word for something and pantomime it (or goes to find it himself). (In contrast, Killer just starts talking in the old tongue if he doesn't know the 'right' words lol.) Horror has less luck than Killer, but he does eventually figure things out. His handwriting is gorgeous though. Like, his home script is usually very flowy and smooth (writing technique) and so he basically does his own version of cursive!
I think when Killer is found out for not knowing how to write (at least in the common Orchard tongue) Nightmare asks Killer if he wants to learn. Killer, with some wounded pride, says yes. Nightmare has to trial and error through several tutors (Night tried + fumbled badly, and Killer got cagey when Ccino gave it a shot) before Killer finally finds one he likes. (I want her to be an Alphys, actually. Like, idk, maybe Outer!Alphys or smth? Someone who was new and inexperienced but VERY passionate.) This, over the course of months/a year, alongside his other training, improves him a lot. His writing default stays Old Tongue, but now he *can* read and write, with only a little difficulty.
For Horror, it took a mix of both Killer and this Alphys *and* Dust to help him learn. Bits and pieces of exposure therapy basically, easing him into it gently, slowly, making sure he doesn't get overwhelmed. He's a fat learner in physical ways (picking up Killer's fighting style, people's tones, etc) but reading and writing? Nah. Not his strong suit. It's missions that really help things make sense to him tbh. Associating letters + words + meanings from paper to the real world. Luckily, he has a support group, and much like Killer, he doesn't need to read/wrote to understand complex thoughts or emotions or concepts. It's just convenient to have as a skill.
Along this same line, I wanna say Fresh struggles a little with this too. I mean, he's clever af and Geno would never let his lil bro go uneducated but... I mean... Fresh writes in chicken scratch, his spoken word is almost like he's spewing riddles (his Slang), and he speaks in growls and clicks to his beasts for over 50% of his adult life. So, when introduced to a *new* language, even if only slightly different? Yeag nah. Not. Not his deal. He'll speak it eventually, maybe, and reading he might puzzle out, but writing? Nope.

I haven't watched lotro in waaaay too long. All your reblogs have been making me desperately want to rewatch them ♥️♥️♥️
The first memory I have of watching LOTR was the extended Return of the King. I was 5 or 6 years old and I was so terrified I threw up. I got over this pretty quickly and then proceeded to imprint on it like a baby duckling and base my entire personality on it
Which is to say
If you rewatch it
I will go insane. That is a threat

thanks god that our human memory can just forget anything and everything,, look at me now looking at the evil within screens and getting good old happy warm nostalgia feeling (i fucking hated this game when i played it all the way to the end and it didn't quite fullfilled my expectations on the plot that had so much potential (to be in a way more mysterious i guess, i just don't like the sci-fi stuff and would have prefered it to be not that rushed in the plot and scene sequences in the end). the frustration was so HIGH i tried to block any memory of it but.. visually and some other aspects are still appealing to me.. and now the memory is reoccuring and wow!! the first impression of TEW from the first anounncements + trailers when there was a little info about it + half the part of some chapters that i remembered and liked, the ones i felt pretty intense when playing or liked visually what impression it left on me... and as those little facts started to unveil a little from my memory, all the ones that got positive response from, like made me feel something like a thrill or admiration, as it stared to create a certain imagery/impression from memory (for TEW as a concept), that is most appealing to me and had stuck into it ideas that i liked about it the most.......... yeah i love when you can draw the line between the original work and your impression of it and not smudge them together and then be disappointed that much so you discard your own personal impression that actually built upon the original and made it bloom for you and had your vision.. you know, same as impressions and interpretations from poems where you will imagine completely diffrent imagery or reinterpretation based on your understanding (and filling in the gaps in knowledge with age) or perception (based on your current feeling, life situations, focus on a certain things or themes at the moment) or even more wild imagination (taking the imagery even higher))
#txt idk im lazy to open up notes app#isnt human mind amazing though#the memory the impression the imagination#when you forget about them it feels like death so i had to at least ACKNOWLEDGE its existence sometimes or else my mind will shrink even mo#and thats the struggles of the non reading people.... time to chew up on some books and enjoy the proccess again like in my youth..........#the problem that without this activity it feels like a sand desert in the fucking head no ideas no anything no connection no romanticizing#i had limited access to games back then in sense of time playing so every session afterwards was recollecting feeling and emotions and plot#the impressions etc#and every time you would have discussed the events that went down with friends cause you know you played it first and they didnt yet#so till the next session were dreamy sighs and imagining how things will go down next or pondering over the facts you got#or what will you do next when you get a chance to play#that anticipation!#i think still to this day i have this process with dark souls and bloodborne because they set in a certain gameplay way so you#HAVE TO THINK OVER WHERE YOU GO or do or when you get yo ass beaten for 4875748 times you can sort up plot stuff or items descriptions#in your head#not bloodborne now cause i liked it so much i acrtually memorized the locations by heart and when i open it up again after 4 FUCKING YEARS#i can still remmber the map and where to go so its getting instictively automatic for me UGH i hate it but it cant beat this urge#i suppose you need to enjoy proccess and feel the proccess more like your playing in the moment deal with probs as they come your way#meanwhile i shut my monke brain off and just override current moment with my automatic memory tha tfeels like second natue#and i love bloodborne so much but dear lord my brain shuts off#and it isnt that enjoyeable#cause your brain isnt challenged into turning it on and actually thinking cause it isnt FORCED TO THINK or else#ds123 and sekiro on the other hand i still hadnt memorized maps and routes like bb so playing ds2 was quite nice cause im getting LOST#so many locations
