The only joke men tell that actually makes me laugh is ‘women are fragile’ like okay bbg, never more fragile than your male ego though.

Okay I already respected your decision to stop for as long as necessary for your own wellbeing, but reading some of those comments trying to justify their reactions and opinions makes me want to stop /checking the comments/ even though I want to see the support.
Even if you (them) did have a strong reaction, you could type it out without clicking to comment. You made the active decision to make your trigger reaction public, knowing it was a trigger reaction, and therefore potentially irrational. And even if you /somehow/ didn't see where it was going, you still clicked on that fic despite the summary and tags, and continued through 5 previous chapters of it, where the characters' stances and motivations on various topics were made quite clear. You did that, to yourself, and have the gall to blame the author of the fic that no one asked you to read if it covered a bad subject for you.
I'm sorry that you didn't see that Nate was a horny mf that had no plans on giving up his pursuit despite Will and other characters around him strongly discouraging him, sorry that it was such a shock that you forgot Will was barely there and Nate told him to "stop thinking" meaning he was still trying to remain aware even after downing enough alcohol for 20 people because he didn't want anything to happen, sorry that you don't think "kids" have any thoughts in their head whatsoever until they reach 18 and are suddenly able to know what they want in life. rip to you but I'm different.
Haha! Your mp made me laugh because I felt like I was reading my own thoughts! It was even more ironic when in previous chapters I made it clear how horny Nate was and no one reacted. But he has sex with Will and it's world war 3! It's really absurd and it angered me the most. It's also very scary to see that because a character is 15, their consent won't be taken seriously and most of the readers would want to see Will in jail for a crime he never committed.
I think there were three main problems with the comments.
First, only triggered people commented, those who liked or understood the chapter didn't or were scarce. I think there was only a person who wasn't grossed out or uncomfortable. The rest were freaked out and unable to look at the bid picture. And they're too focused on Nate being 15 (like them I guess?) to see anything else. Because they probably identify to Nate and can't separate themselves from the character. But Nate isn't innocent at all here. And if I continued the story, I'd make it even clearer.
Second, the story was read by people who shouldn't have read it in the first place. Why would a CSA survivor read that story? I can't even understand. Are all the people in this fandom CSA survivor? It's just too weird. Also, the fact that this fandom is mostly made of young people doesn't help. Last night, I received a new comment that called Will disgusting and a rapist... Most of the people who read the story don't have the emotional maturity to understand its depth and the adults remained silent.
Third, I strongly believe that cancel culture is partly responsible for the backlash. We live in an era where everything must be a "safe place", polished and without any dent. People have become extremely fragile on most topics and are no longer able to think by themselves. I actually find this trend of the safe place absurd and ridiculous. The world isn't a safe place and will never be.
