Hey! Is unbilotitled about Carl? The whole blue eyes thing and the waiting for your calls bit made me think it but maybe I’m reaching ?

Hello, I don't think that one is a reach at all. There's several lines in that song that I think most fans agree heavily reference Carl and the Libs breakup, especially as it was written and first demoed during the peak divorce era in 2004. Blue Eyes however is believed by many to be Mick Whitnall as it was apparently a nickname for him. Blue Eyes and Wolfman were added in later versions and weren't in the original demos. The best part of the very first demo was the lyric "the more that you follow me the more I get off" instead of "get lost". You can hear it here. Utterly heartbreaking song and I absolutely consider it a major part of the breakup lore. x

I love that in that Vogue video interview from like 2010 Peter talks about writing songs with Mick Whitnall and then straight up says that he’s struggling with them and that he wants to show them to Carl becase “in the old days that what we'd do, I'd have a great idea, I'd share it with Carl, and inevitably something great would happen.”

I mean obviously everyone knows/knew that the two of them together were the key to great songs, but it is interesting to hear Peter basically imply that he can’t write songs with other people the same way/the songs don’t turn out as good with others as they do with Carl.

Two sets – one at 5pm and one at 8.30pm – what could possibly go wrong ? At 5pm twitter rumours were that Pete was in St Leonards. At 8.30pm he hadn’t played a note for the first show. Oh well, it was going to be a late one…not totally unexpected was it ? At 11.45pm the second show got underway – and two minutes or so of a deliciously chaotic ‘Twist and Shout’ hinted at the possibilities. From then on it was rather like listening to someone turn the tuning dial on an old fashioned radio – songs drifted in and out of focus – moments of brilliance and coherence followed by moments of utter madness. If you like Pete you’d have liked (some of) this. If you didn’t…well you’d have given up the wait long ago. In truth he needs more support and direction from his band – Mick Whitnall alone was unable to provide the impetus to keep the set on track – but you might argue this is part of the appeal. What I’m sure of is someone – a friend, a band member, a manager – needs to help or else nights like this will drift even more towards self-indulgent chaos. And it will all end abruptly. And badly. Don’t waste the talent Pete.

I fear for residents of NSW with Scomo's "gotta live with it and try and understand my crazy age limits and lack of unified vax rollout-in meantime you can take public picnics and travel to Wilcannia if you wanna with one vax only. In meantime I found a Danish doc called 'Pete and Carl' (2006) online-has the usual clips/songs but has 2 interviews on Denmark DR2 channel musikprogrammet(?) with Carl and Peter that I'd not seen before and impromptu 'Man who came to stay' with Mick Whitnall and Pete singing to the interviewer.

Hello, yeah we are in dire straights for sure but I hope they do reopen international borders at 80 percent vaccinated, I will be on the first plane out. Thanks for the reminder about that clip, I hadn't seen that in years. It's linked here for those who wish to see it. x
