We Are the Series but Omegaverse Because I Have Opinions™

BEGINNING NOTES:

I haven't read the novel.

This follows my own personal interpretation of the omegaverse.

The characters don't have a scent kink, but the author sure does.

PHUMPEEM

Phum is an omega.

He smells like roses, vanilla, and musk.

Peem is an alpha.

He smells like sea salt, ambrette seeds, and sage (the sea shore).

Phum presented as an omega while he was in another country. Everyone thought he was an alpha like his two older brothers. This delayed his return to Thailand. When he returned home, he crammed his scent under scent blockers. On a typical day, he passes as a beta, and on a good day, he passes as an alpha.

By the start of the series, the only people outside his immediate family who know he is an omega are Toey (who sniffed him out), Beer (who Phum told), and Mick (who wasn't told, but made an educated guess).

By the end of the series, Phum stops using his scent blockers around the group. By graduation, he stops using scent blockers altogether.

As Phum's narrative foil, Peem has no problem with his scent. He was raised in a supportive family and a strong platonic pack.

This may come as a surprise, but their storyline doesn't change until the Volunteer Camp Arc.

Due to PhumPeem's odd mating dance, their biology was very confused about whether or not they were mates. To play it safe, their biology started to view the other as their mate.

Omegas are known for getting territorial (aka, power-boosted) when protecting their packs and mates.

This resulted in Phum nearly throwing hands with Kluen, barely circumvented by TanFang's interference. Fang took Phum aside to calm him down. When Peem heard, he started to freak out about letting his mate feel threatened. This was when their friends realized something more had been going on between them, and they encouraged them to talk it out before someone got hurt.

They are officially dating/courting by the end of camp.

Afterward, Phum takes permanent residence in Peem's lap.

They mated before they got married.

QTOEY

Q is an alpha.

He smells like cedarwood (pencils), oakwood moss, and amber.

Toey is an omega.

He smells like milk, coffee, and sugar (yes, a milk frappe)

Q has a weird relationship with his second gender.

He doesn't hate being an alpha, but people weirdly fixate on it to an uncomfortable extent. Many were displeased when he wanted to pursue art because they thought he should pursue something more alpha-like. Q hates it when he plays into textbook alpha behavior. His friends figured this out, and don't comment on it.

Q was a lone wolf in high school until Peem leaned over during an art elective to ask him a question. Q was (platonically) attracted to Peem's chill vibes, and the rest is history.

Asexual people don't have ruts/heats.

Aromantic people don't have scents.

Aromantic Asexual people don't have either.

However, demiromantic people gain a scent once they are romantically attracted to someone. Demisexual people gain a heat/rut cycle once they are sexually attracted to someone.

Before he started university, Q developed his scent. His friends noticed before he did, and everyone was confused.

Unfortunately, Toey got the worse end of the stick. He went into his first heat late into high school. His omega instincts kicked in and guided him to the nearest omega.

That was Phum.

This is why Toey knows Phum is an omega, and why Phum and Fang protected Toey.

In a twist of fate, scents save the day as QToey started to date earlier than canon because Q connected the scent on the post-it notes to Toey.

They were the first ones to have a pup.

TANFANG

Fang is an alpha.

He smells like amber, vanilla, and musk.

Tan is an alpha.

He smells like mandarin orange, mint, and mugwort.

Instead of punching each other, they got into a full-on brawl.

In high school, Tan was a textbook alpha who was overcompensating. When Pun said he felt unsafe around him he realized he was going off the deep end. The day he left that hangout was the day he saw Fang and Phum.

Fang knew about his affection for Tan; however, he valued his parents' love more. He believed if he entered a relationship with another alpha, he would be considered a failure.

Between high school and university, they both tried dating omegas. It didn't work. They were ruined for anyone else.

When canon rolled around, Fang realized his love for Phum outweighed any love he held for their parents (though he was in the process of letting go), but believed he missed his chance at happiness because he was a coward.

He nearly confessed first when he reunited with Tan.

He nearly cried when Tan confessed his feelings.

Fang keeps his relationship hidden from his parents. He plans for them to find out when their marriage is finalized and they've adopted their second child.

On a side note, I've decided Tan has a lesbian alpha/omega couple as his parents. One is an alpha lawyer, and the other is an omega mechanic. They love Fang dearly, and Fang gets his turn to cry over familial affection.

They're always bathed in each other's scent, to the point people meeting them for the first time get confused on whose scent is whose or what their scents actually are.

Fuck Head Alpha and Head Omega, this pack has two Head Alphas and people get very intimidated about this fact.

CHAINPUN

Chain is a beta.

He smells like mint (toothpaste).

Betas have weaker one-note scents.

Pun is an omega.

He smells like juniper berry, saffron, and seamoss (penguins).

The two had been courting/dating since high school without realizing it. This was a point of suffering for their pack.

Chain: I don't understand why people keep breaking up with me?

Pun, laying next to him in his nest which Chain helped him make: Yeah. I don't know why either. You are a catch. :D

Chain gifted Pun a penguin plushies he keeps in his nest.

Chain: Ah yes, me, my mate, and his six-foot penguin plushie.

They mated before they got married.

Apparently, exhibitionists. Good for them.

They are the second ones to have a pup.

MICKMATT

Mick is an alpha.

He smells like smoked cedar, oud embers, and vetiver.

Matt is a beta.

He smells like fruity cereal.

They met online before they met in-person.

Matt when he learns Toey studied art because of an alpha: That isn't very omega rights of you.

As previously mentioned, Mick guessed Phum was an omega.

Mick: Oh, are you worried about telling Peem you are an omega?

Phum and Beer: You know???

Mick: Yeah. :D

BONUS: BEER

Beer is an alpha.

Fortunately, he doesn't smell like beer (like piss).

He smells like grapefruit, lavender, and silver birch.

He needs a vacation.

Soulmate AU Idea for the whole of We Are Gang

[This is because i quite literally cannot stop thinking about @thunder-point 's AU.]

Chain has been seeing colour since he entered third grade home room to introduce himself. So has Pun, along with twelve more of their classmates.

The first colorful thing Tan sees is red from the small drop of blood on his knuckles after he has punched the cheer captain of the opposing school.

Q doesn't realise that he has guessed the color of the sky accurately till he starts seeing his painting in dimensions like never before at P'Oh's cafe on a random Wendesday.

Peem has high hopes for colors, and they do not disappoint as he sees uniforms of red and blue run across the football field. After the match is over, Tan brings over his soulmate and his soulmates' friends, one of whom stops mid track upon setting eyes on Peem.

Matt has been friends with Toey, and by extension the huge gang of Toey's Hias. Now when Toey finds out that Hia Peem's boyfriend and Hia Tan's boyfriend are actually two of his Hias from school, there are four more boys to become friends with. One of them is into video games, he hears.

So we would have the soulmates groups of

-Peem, Q, Tan, Chain and Pun

-Phum, Mick, Beer, and Fang (maybe Tan, I see it, but I am iffy about him being here)

-Matt and Toey

-Phum, Fang, and Toey

Maybe it's controversial to be in love with a platonic soulmate, which is why it took Pun and Chain so long to get together.

(Could also apply to Tan and Fang if Tan was a part of the engineering soulmate group).

Idk if it is a touch thing or having a mark of the group.

For real tho like what was in that show? Really? There wasnt even any actual plot and yet here i am. Checking the tag every day on every app i am on. Reading fanfiction. Still thinking about TanFang as my go to otp for most scenarios. Like i am so hung up on this show that the fact it started almost an year back isnt even real to me

Fuck it, We Are Internet Famous AU. Let's go-

After his grandfather passed, Q entered a major depressive episode. He was close with his grandfather, a famous artist, who taught him everything he knew. In a way, he was raised more by his grandfather than his parents (although they deeply loved him). Q retains his desire to paint, to make art, but now it is bittersweet and his grandfather's shadow hangs over every studio session.

He starts streaming to the core five group chat to try and get into the groove. Tan, perpetual recorder, recorded the streams. One night, while bored, Tan edited one with inside jokes and references the group found funny. After a collective viewing experience, Chain suggested uploading the video to YouTube and its how Q's YouTube channel (MaestroQ) was born.

Q has two channels. One is for edited down and planned content, while the other contains his live streams. He gains a bit of a reputation as a semi-anti Bob Ross due to his more sarcastic and snarky remarks despite remaining calm throughout. The live streams gain popularity because people use them to fall asleep, and the shorter videos are edited down down to a process-video and a condensed highlight reel. Art has become fun for Q again.

Meanwhile, Fang and Phum have become popular because they are rich and attractive young men who do some modeling on the side. It doesn't help Phum (accidentally) befriended royalty (Damn Beer) and a popular streamer known for gaming (Mick), which increased the brothers fame.

Matt is another popular streamer known for gaming and art streams, and Toey is his roommate who is known through association. The two have been roommates for years, and Toey crashes Matt's streams constantly (which lead to an iconic series where Matt makes Toey play horror games, except Toey is completely unaffected). Toey finds Q's painting streams relaxing and falls asleep to them.

Now where do the ships fit into this?

Simple: TanFang.

In this universe, TanFang met when they were adults, post-graduation. While I don't have the exact details, their first meeting comes about because Tan approaches Fang due to Fang being vaguely familiar to him. Naturally, Tan assumes Fang went to high school wit him and thought he should say hi. Fang didn't, and is displeased about being interrupted for the fifth time that week. Naturally, this leads to some punches being thrown.

Of course, they get passive aggressive about it.

[ Pun here! Q is sorry about the delay, but we had to take Tan to the doctor. He got punched. Don't worry! He is fine! While he is out of commission, I thought I'd show him up with my editing skills! :D ]

Phum makes a post about taking his older brother to the doctor, and Fang follows up about making a smooth recovery.

Tan and Fang end up having their followup checkups on the same day, where they figure out the misunderstanding. Fang offers to treat Tan to lunch since he was the aggressor, and Tan agrees. Soon they are texting everyday, and a month later they are dating.

They soft launch their relationship and everyone in Fang's comments are commenting about it being the "Maestro Q Editor Guy".

It was a moment in social media.

Out of protectiveness and curiosity, Phum looks up the channel Tan edits for. He watches a couple of videos, but doesn't get that far into the catalogue before he goes to play football with Tan. If Phum got a little farther in the catalogue, he might have seen Peem's little side series where he goes to scenic water locations and does landscape paintings alongside Q.

Instead, Phum finds out about Peem the canon way where he accidentally destroys a painting Q and Peem finished for a video (or maybe a video card). Q and Tan watch in awe as Peem loses it on Phum, kicking him in the nuts, then running off.

Cue more passive aggressive vague posting.

(I think it would be funny if Phum and Q had Internet beef but their fans were unable to figure out why. Randomly one day this accidental influencer and the painter started to quote tweet each other.)

At this point, Toey is friends with Fang and Phum (through MickMatt) and gasps when he realizes Phum is why the latest video has been delayed and bullies his pseudo-older brother into apologizing ("I had a restless night of sleep. Why would you do that to me? *lethal puppy eyes*"). Phum, begrudgingly, does through Tan. Peem mocks him a little ("Now was that so hard?") and says Phum will be forgiven if he helps Peem with a video idea.

Phum agrees ("Whatever you say gorgeous.") and Peem uses Phum as a model for a portrait. Afterwards, Phum asks Peem on a date ("Since I am forgiven, can I take you on a date? *lethal puppy eyes*). Peem agrees because he thought Phum wasn't serious only to be thoroughly swept off his feet. Phum can't stop taking pictures of Peem, and he hard launches Peem as his boyfriend. Peem is pretty, and people need to know Phum scored.

It was also a moment in social media.

Afterwards, Peem becomes fond of Toey, and it (finally) clicks for Toey that he can meet Q through Peem and Tan. Tan is ecstatic for their friend groups to officially meet, unaware of Toey's mission. At the meet-up, Toey harnesses the power of the sun directly at Q. Q, naturally, becomes romantically constipated about this.

Toey suggest Matt should do an art stream with Q, and Matt agrees. The live stream goes well, and Q leaves. Toey notices Q left his pencil box behind, and rushes to give it back. After staring at his pencil box for a bit, Q admits he knows Toey has feelings for him but he has never returned anyones romantic desire before (oh no, where did these demiromantic feelings come from?) and he doesn't know what to do. The two promise to take it slow together, and start dating.

Chain and Pun were the first ones who got together in this timeline, because the viewers picked up on the undertones between and it opened Pun's eyes to his feelings being returned.

Mick and Matt were the second couple to get together in this timeline, as they were online gaming rivals who were teamed-up at a convention's live gaming event. After they won, they started dating. Toey has never third-wheeled harder.

But I want to see Peem’s childhood home, discover his nickname given by his parents. I want more Chain pinning endlessly after a dense Pun, I want the unexpectedness of MickMatt (or even BeerMickMatt). I want my besties Q and Peem to do the nasty in Peem’s hometown. I want Phum’s pout because Peem is (pretending to be) sick. And I want Phum’s birthday, his biggest smile at seeing it happen. And I want that discussion between Phum and Peem about Khaophan. I want Tan and Fang being their cute selves and Fang scheming with Peem and the others and I want “thank you for being born so I can love you.”

And Q wanting to eat Toey’s cotton candy.

I don’t believe any of this is useless in the slightest. What is wrong with characters existing in their own happiness?

I started this series the day it started airing for absolutely no reason. I had watched Pond and Phuwin in FUTS and some of their individual works before, Aou and Boom in Vice Versa and, Winny and Satang in MSP, FUTS, some individual works, but i had never felt especially attached to them beyond those characters. Starting this series with mild recollection of the trailer from a long time back, at first it seemed like just another university bl. That was until the 5th episode when the choppiness and the unnecessary cuts to random characters or objects started to fade away and Peem+ TanFang stole my heart. That was when i started to really look forward to each episode and ultimately came back to tumblr because i wanted to know if other people were also finding these characters as well written as i was. And i am so grateful i did. In the short time of an year that ive watched thai dramas in, i have never found such an active community about a show that matched my vibe to this level. This was such an amazing experience on so many fronts and even though this show is coming to an end, i hope that this unfiltered but non toxic community is kept alive.

Because I'm me I do want to make a little sappy post before the episode, so forgive my cheesiness.

I have no recollection of why I started watching We are, I'm not even sure why one morning I decided to catch up on the 5 episodes that were already out, but I'm eternally grateful I did.

This show was exactly what I needed and made me feel happy and alive for the first time in a while. Not only did it bring amazing relationships and one of my favorite characters ever (phumpeem/Phum you will never leave my head) and an absolutely beautiful portrayal of true friendship, but also it gave me back that sense of community in fandom that I don't think I've had in years.

So thank you We are for the most beautiful journey ever, and all the moments and warmth I will keep with me. But also thanks to all of you in the tag for all the gifs, art, memes, liveblogs and analysis, all the fics and scenarios that we built collectively, our general desire to kill the parents. It's been an absolute pleasure and a very beautiful bright spot in my life 🖤.
