Period comfort — Mikey, Baji and Kakucho

𝐌𝐈𝐊𝐄𝐘

You wake up beside Mikey, clinging to you like a koala on a tree. You groan and get up, feeling nauseated and terrible pain spreading throughout your lower body.

You softly push your boyfriend away and roll to the other side, comically without budging. You feel the sensation of warmth pool in between your legs and the coppery smell that fills your clothes and the sheets. You whine at the stain that spreads past your underwear, and nightwear onto the bedsheets.

You sigh and wake Mikey up, wanting to wash all the soiled fabrics together.

"Mikey," you say shaking him, "Manjiro wake up."

Mikey hums and turns to look at you questioningly, his eyes darting to the clock...its 7 am on a Sunday, what are you even thinking?

He sits up and looks at you, rubbing his eyes, his voice groggy and deep, " 's up, baby?"

"'Jiro just wake up for five minutes, gotta clean the sheet," you sigh. Mikey looks at you quizzically and then his eyes fall on the red stain on the sheet, his eyes softening at the thought of the discomfort waking you up early on the day of your rest from work.

Manjiro stretches and gets up from the bed and pulls the sheet out of the mattress before you can.

"Mikey wha-" you ask but he shushes you.

"Remove your clothes. I'll wash them for you while you take a bath." He says calmly and your eyes widen.

"No, Jiro you don't have to do this it's gross. I'll do it myself," you say while haphazardly shaking your head, the stigma speaking before your mind could.

Mikey sighs and looks at you, "It's just blood. You wash my bloody gang uniform when it's your turn for laundry, how is this any different?" You sigh and nod, realising you can't win against your lover in this and you are not entirely opposed to him helping you out when the cramps are slowly starting to hit.

He lets the tub be filled with warm water while he washes the stain on the sheets and talks to you.

"I'll wash my underwear though," you chuckle and go to him, hugging him from behind as he fills the bath for you. He chuckles and nods.

"Whatever makes you comfortable, baby," he says calmly and turns his face to kiss your forehead.

𝐁𝐀𝐉𝐈

You groan and curl up on the couch. The movie you had started to distract yourself is now distant noises as you clutch your stomach and whimper at the cramps hitting like a wave. You don't even have the energy to walk to the medicine cabinet to get painkillers.

In the midst of your pain and whimpering you don't notice the door opening or Keisuke walking in with a confused and concerned expression.

"Hey, hey, love?" he says as gently as his gruff voice can muster. "What's wrong?"

You look up at him from your position, tired and puzzled. "Kei, when did you come home?"

"Just now, but what's up with you?" he says and sits down on the couch beside you with a plop, the action making the whole couch shake a bit.

"Cramps," you say quietly. As he sees your pain and discomfort, his mind slowly turns.

"Shit, yer' on your period?" he says and you nod. "Is it bad, the pain?" he questions and you nod again. He gets up and goes to the closet, and brings it back to you. He then helps you place it on your stomach and rubs your back in a comforting motion. He then sits beside you and cooes at you and picks you up by your arms and has you seated on his lap before you can protest. He rubs your back gently and you can feel the tension in your muscles dissipate. He leans in and whispers softly, "It's ok, I'm here now. You don't have to get through this alone." You smile at him and he smiles back, relieved to see you calm down.

"Relax," he says while rubbing your shoulders with his vice-like grip and going down your spine, causing you to relax immediately. His hand sneaks into your shirt and rubs your stomach in circles, cold fingers dancing on the surface of your skin, sending waves of comfort and warmth throughout your body.

"Feel good?" he hums next to your ear. Your head falls back to rest on his shoulder, eyes slowly heavy at the ministrations. You nod, a gentle sigh of contentment escaping your lips. His lips press against the curve of your neck, a soft kiss sending tingles through your veins. You melt into his embrace, giving yourself over to the moment.

Baji chuckles and switches off the television before whispering "Sleep well."

𝐊𝐀𝐊𝐔𝐂𝐇𝐎

You sob as you see the bright red spots on the expanse of your face, the dullness of your skin that stares back at you from the mirror. You know all of these are hormonal changes, yet they devastate you every time they appear.

You cover your face with your hands and can't help but let the tears flow down. Engrossed in your own self-pity, you gasp as you feel Kakucho's hands wrap around your waist as he hugs you from back. He rests his head on your shoulder, his soft cologne tickling your noise.

"Mmh, whats troubling you, love?" he asks quietly, nuzzling into your shoulder as you giggle at how ticklish it feels.

"I look ugly, Hitto," you murmur, breaking down into his arms, it wasn't just the hormones after all...it was the loathing that had been troubling you for so long, the stress that was built up and needed catharsis.

Kakucho looks at you panicked, he turns you around and hugs you tight, your face against his chest.

"Hey, now where did you get the idea from?" He wiped your tears with his nimble fingers, "You are the prettiest person I have ever seen and I am not saying it for the sake of saying it. I mean it. Every time I see you, I can barely contain myself, my heart goes all crazy when you smile at me."

You sob harder into his chest, and he rubs your back gently to comfort you. "Don't lie to make me happy."

"Why would I ever lie to you, love?" he says calmly and cradles your face in his hands, "who cares about this acne love? I see you so far beyond your skin, but gosh your skin itself is so gorgeous, it's hard not to stare."

You chuckle and hug him harder and he lets you. He would always let himself be used for your comfort; it was nothing compared to what you had done for him, you had given him a home.

🐱🎧Mikey: I thought as much like better way to playing at DogDay’s house. I’d gotten my own costume while seeing these two critters like to hear my tunes. Should’ve waited if the rest of them can join in too, but the party will continue on. 😉👍 Still admire their clothes from that Filipino buddy made back in Aug. 2024 (Link Here); though decided to keep it as their Halloween costumes. Hey, that’s alright by me if you want to. Just wish that long eared kid would’ve been there, but probably doing his own thing on “Day 6” later. It’s alright then. Do hope he’ll won’t missing out some fun while I’m tuning classic guitar music. 🎸🎵

🌟 UNSEEN AND JUST A LITTLE BIT OBSCENE 🌟

On Friday afternoon, I whipped out the VCR from the garage. The purpose of this endeavour? To play a VHS tape that I acquired recently that I had wanted since I was fourteen. After fiddling around with the cords and swearing at the telly, I finally got both the audio and video working! Tested it first with a VHS of the Sydney 2000 Olympics Opening Ceremony, before getting onto the tape I was really itching to watch!

In 1998, Good News Week released a very funny and outrageous video tape called Unseen And Obscene, which was filled with behind the scenes footage and parts of the show that were too rude to go to air at the eight o'clock timeslot the ABC had given it. I have been watching it on and off on YouTube for many years and it is a HOOT. Even today after many rewatches some of the things said and done have my eyes watering! From terrorising audience members; young and old alike, pashing mannequins, taking a portly gent's snack stash off him and making jokes about the Packers at the expense of Kate Fischer sitting only seats away, it is utter pandemonium 😂 Did I forget to mention the live songs too!?

There is something special about watching something from 1998 on VHS as it was intended to. It feels properly authentic. As I keep immersing myself in all this media nostalgia I cannot help but feel a bit jealous that I never got to experience this stuff while it was on air, born too late unfortunately. There's not a lot of telly like this today in this country, I'm afraid. Definitely a far less vibrant TV landscape now. The best I can do is use my creative brain to try to replicate the experience of what it might have been like for myself. I hope I'm doing an alright job with all of this because I'm loving every second of it. 💖🌟📺🇦🇺
