🌟 UNSEEN AND JUST A LITTLE BIT OBSCENE 🌟

On Friday afternoon, I whipped out the VCR from the garage. The purpose of this endeavour? To play a VHS tape that I acquired recently that I had wanted since I was fourteen. After fiddling around with the cords and swearing at the telly, I finally got both the audio and video working! Tested it first with a VHS of the Sydney 2000 Olympics Opening Ceremony, before getting onto the tape I was really itching to watch!

In 1998, Good News Week released a very funny and outrageous video tape called Unseen And Obscene, which was filled with behind the scenes footage and parts of the show that were too rude to go to air at the eight o'clock timeslot the ABC had given it. I have been watching it on and off on YouTube for many years and it is a HOOT. Even today after many rewatches some of the things said and done have my eyes watering! From terrorising audience members; young and old alike, pashing mannequins, taking a portly gent's snack stash off him and making jokes about the Packers at the expense of Kate Fischer sitting only seats away, it is utter pandemonium 😂 Did I forget to mention the live songs too!?

There is something special about watching something from 1998 on VHS as it was intended to. It feels properly authentic. As I keep immersing myself in all this media nostalgia I cannot help but feel a bit jealous that I never got to experience this stuff while it was on air, born too late unfortunately. There's not a lot of telly like this today in this country, I'm afraid. Definitely a far less vibrant TV landscape now. The best I can do is use my creative brain to try to replicate the experience of what it might have been like for myself. I hope I'm doing an alright job with all of this because I'm loving every second of it. 💖🌟📺🇦🇺

I just finish Batman and the TMNT movie.

In the end of the movie, when they’re aeting pizza in the Batcave, I just imagine how funny it would be if the rest of the bats, back from their missions or just to visit their dad, came into de cave to see 4 fucking gigants turtles eating pizza with their dad, their little brother and their “sister”.

Dick: What in the…?

Tim: What in the nane of the science the dude in the cafe give me as sugar?

Cass: I…I just… Is that Alfred eating pizza with a knife and a fork?

*After an explanation*

Jason: One day…I was out of the City one day and this happend.

Damian: *eating his slize of pizza* And father let Michelangelo (is that correct?) press all the buttons of the Batmovile.

Mikey: And it was the best thing I have ever done!

Duke: He what?!

Steph: You never let us do it!

After that, every single one of them jump to Bruce, yelling at him for that “betrayal”

In Metropolis, Clark can hear a clear “That fucking turtle is not your son and you let him do it!”

He has no idea of what is happening.

Sir, I love them and here are some headcanons to make you love them too:

-In an attempt to win Mikey's affections, Damian gifted Mikey an orange Gotham street kitten named Klunk. Mikey loves him to death.

-While Mikey first thought Damian was unecessarily mean to everyone, he quickly comes to love Damian's snarkiness. It just scratches the same itch Dr. Delicate Touch does in his brain and he loves hyping Damian up when insulting villains.

-In general, Mikey just loves being mischievious with Damian. He hides under his cape, messes up his hair and jumps him with surprise hugs while Damian pretends to be bothered by it. (He secretly loves it, the goddamn softie.)

-Damian secretly tries to fish for compliments by showing off in front of Mikey. Mikey knows. And does compliment him. Because he loves the way Damian's eyes just light up slightly.

-Another thing Damian enjoys about Mikey is spending time at his place with his family. Both the bats and turtle fam are quite dysfunctional, but Damian enjoys the lacking pressure of more emotionally open atmossphere of Mikey's home, even if it's not fancy, kinda stinks and might be a little plagued by explosions. April and Mikey's brothers did need some time to warm up to Damian's prickly attitude, but now they're cool with each other.

-They draw together. Sometimes, they try to copy the other's completely different style or draw each other, but sitting in a room quietly drawing is one of the ways they love hanging out.

-Damian researched turtle anatomy after getting a crush on Mikey. Mostly to keep him safe or find things he might enjoy. Mikey thinks it's sweet. That he puts in the effort to know him. In and out.

-They're both enby/gender-non-conforming for me in vastly different ways. Damian in a "If he can't be free of his parents' legacies, he should at least be free of gender norms" - way and Mikey in a "He is a turrle raised in the sewers. His view of gender is funky somehow, though I can't describe it."

A ROTTMNT x DC crossover fic

Summary:

Donnie's hand clung tightly to his little brother's shoulder, watching as Lichtenberg's scars traveled up Mikey's arms. Donnie’s fingers burned as he anchored himself to Mikey, his breathing sharp and chest heaving. Raph was in an injured heap behind them, his leg bent at an awkward angle. Donnie’s head ached, but he knew Mikey could do it. The universe ripped at the seams, and Leo was pulled from the clutches of the Kraang. Orange light swallowed Donnie whole as he kept a firm hand on his youngest brother. OR Donnie and Mikey end up in an alternate universe where, instead of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, there is a Justice League. Mikey is hurt, and Donnie is left to his own devices. OR Donnie accidentally becomes one of Batman’s rogues.

While Mikey was snoozing on the fire escape Donnie hoisted them up onto. He got to work, figuring out where they were. At first he figured they were in Newark, New Jersey; but opening the map threw him for a loop. Gotham. They were in a place called Gotham City, a place that should not exist. A place that does not exist.

Next, he pulled up the news; the attack on New York should be on every major news outlet. But it was not. There was no mention of the Kraang’s invasion or pink fleshy aliens attacking the city. Instead, the news was covering an organization known as the Justice League. It was something straight out of a comic book: a team of superheroes that defended the world against threats. Donnie swore this was the exact plot of the one Jupiter Jim comic run.

Teenage me would be screaming that she now has these two Good News Week CDs! The Paul McDermott Unplugged one arrived today! 😍 Younger me had downloaded these off a Yolasite back in 2014 but there's something so special about having them in CD form. The monologues are very funny and the Live Songs/Volume Two is still a killer! Forgot how good the songs from this show were! 😍

Nine years of loving Good News Week this year and every single one of those nine years, I've gone back to it somehow! It was a treasure and I wish it would come back. I know I am primarily a Newsreader fanpage nowadays but I'll always make an exception for this treasure of a show. It was The Newsreader of my teenage years, after all 😉💖🇦🇺📺🌟

I can't stop thinking about like. Post Batman vs the TMNT movie there's some sort of crisis in New York, so Batman sends some of his team to help, and tells them to meet up with his "contacts" in the area. Let's say Dick, Jason, Steph, and Tim, so it can be a Robin roadtrip and not include anyone who's met the turtles before. They keep calling them "the turtles" but no one ever actually explains what their deal is. Babs apparently chats with one of them online fairly frequently. Damian will only say that they were "surprisingly formidable" and reminds the travellers not to shame Father's name in front of their allies. Apparently someone named "Young Master Michaelangelo" is the one who gave Alfred that skateboard that's inexplicably been put on display. Bruce FINALLY explains that they're the last surviving members of the Hamato ninja clan, and thus the world's only practitioners of an ancient style of ninjutsu. Their "ways are rather strange," but Bruce found them to be "dedicated and trustworthy."

So the Robins roll up to New York expecting some stoic ninja masters, and instead end up in a sewer surrounded by chaos teens and a geriatric rat.

"Are you... meta humans?"

"Nope! We started out as normal turtles and got mutated by a toxic green ooze :D"
