I think a common thing I've been seeing around is the fact that people think splitting alters for reasons that aren't necessary trauma related means you're endo, or means you're not 'traumagenic' which is insane.

You can split alters for a variety of reasons. New trauma, stress, a new situation (new school, new job, new friend group) that isn't stressful, healing from things, etc. It's not a one and done always trauma issue. You don't have mixed origins, you have a life that exists outside of trauma and you have alters that reflect that point.

Guys, please look into how alters are formed, their frequent jobs in systems, and the like. I think it would help nail this point into the head.

Being a system is indeed a neurodivergency, as is OCD, and Cluster-B disorders, buts its not the same type of ND as Autism or ADHD.

When I say systems cannot exist without trauma I'm not discounting that fact, and I'm sure I speak for the rest of us as well due to the research we have actually put in compared to you.

The future shouldn't be plural.

Being plural is a result of intense trauma, it's not a label you can decide for yourself like you can bring queer or trans. It's a disorder.

Your art is so scary to look at. You realize most people have a semi-colon tattoo because they have attempted right? We shouldn't aim for more people to have that experience. We shouldn't aim for more systems.

Being a system isn't just having alters. It's pretty far down the rung sometimes compared to my other issues such as intense PTSD flashbacks, my altered worldview, my physical disability being inflamed due to my trauma, my severe anxiety and depression, my intense lack of memory even for small things, and constant dissociating which makes it hard for tasks to get done.

You claim to be plural because it's fun. And that's the real ableism I fear.

We're still a new system.

During a stressful moment in the middle of the night we had our first split. And afterwards we were very, very lost. So we turned to Tumblr and got to adapting and curating our spaces. As time went on, we realized that the community is very...split, if you will.

Which made sense, being plural is very complicated! It's a disorder but also can be spiritual and not disordered at all. But I've seriously never seen levels of fakeclaiming this bad.

Let alone these levels of our own community wishing our kind didn't exist.

miku as my babaylan oc who is trans

babaylan research dump (mostly from memory so it’s gonna be pretty distilled):

babaylans are the lead shamans of indigenous filipino tribes (mostly northside, the luzon and visayas area, rip mindanao) that are responsible for practically every spiritual aspect of the community. only women were allowed to be babaylans, since, according to local mythos, women had more affinity to the spiritual realm.

however, what i find notable about babaylans is that their requirements also include transgender women! one does not simply choose to become a babaylan, instead, she has to train under a senior and go through a ritual before the anito (local spirits) deemed her worthy of representing them. the only exception is if a girl went through something that confirmed to the people immediately that she had anito approval. notably, trans women were also among the subset of girls who got to skip the selection process. this is my speculation but i like to think it’s probably because the locals considered the realisation that one was trans as anito approval. assigned female by duende

usually, i’m very wary of putting modern queer labels onto historical figures (we don’t know how they would identify now), but spanish colonial records noted that amab babaylans, outside of their ritualistic roles, would live like women (down to having husbands), were treated like women and were simply considered women barring the ability to bear children. if she walks like a woman, talks like woman…that didn’t stop the spanish settlers from misgendering them, though.

that being said, in present day, while there are still people out there practising babaylan rituals, they’re mostly men who only take on feminine appearances during the rituals, and live as men in their regular lives. this stems back from the spanish colonial period and we are not getting into that now this read more is long enougb as it is

personally i find this fascinating because, at least for what i was able to look into, trans babaylans were the only time i could look at a historical indigenous gender identity and definitively refer to them as lgbt. most other indigenous identities are either meant to be their own thing (not native american, but i remember reading discourse over whether two-spirit should be considered nb or as its own thing) or far too complex to be described with the western modern lgbt terms (although they generally present feminine, the hijras from india classify themselves as a separate third gender and worship specific deities from hinduism). maybe i haven’t looked hard enough but it’s so interesting to hear about old communities where women, and especially trans women, were basically the most important figures

Ooookay, so like, I said it didn't me as being weird, but my obliviousness is at the point where I only just now took a second to realize what "Miku binder" means, because I did not realize it was meant to be depicting someone visibly wearing a binder and read "making fun of transmasc headcanons" as "making fun of headcanons by transmascs."

an oral history of vocaloid

ive seen a lot of (very misguided) discussion about vocaloid/vsynth in regards to AI voices discourse, so i thought it would be a good idea to sit down and explore vocaloid as a software, as well as mentioning other software of the same genre, to give people who dont really know much a better understanding

first and foremost: i dislike AI voices that are in unregulated spaces right now. actors who are finding their hard work end up on some website for anyone to use without compensation is devastating, and shows a lack of respect for the effort it takes in the field.

however, vocaloid has a much longer history that pre-dates these aggregate sites. vocaloid software was first released in 2004, and was initially marketed towards professional musicians. vocaloid's second version of the engine, however, decided to broaden the market towards general consumers, pitching it as helpful software to those who wanted to produce music, but didn't have the personal skill or ability to have someone else sing for their music (range, note holding, etc). amateur musicians wouldn't know how to direct someone to tackle a lyric persay, but using software would be easy to learn and they would learn the terminology associated with certain performance decisions.

in vocaloid 2's era, miku was released. miku's voice provider is Saki Fujita, a well respected voice actress who actually does a lot of work in anime as well as video games! the popularity of miku is its own separate post of history, but the explosive nature of it, i would argue, is the reason that vocaloid and other commercial voice synthesizer software ultimately ended up geared towards all consumers instead of just professional musicians. (crypton and yamaha did absolutely still cater to professional musicians, having private or non released banks only for certain companies/contractors to use though).

flash forward, and technology has developed way further. in 2013, cevio released, and in 2017, synthV debuted. by this point, vocal synthing has expanded from just singing software to also include software intended for just speaking (voiceroid by AHS software) and the idea of an AI bank to improve the quality and clarity of voice banks is becoming more feasible.

however, i wouldnt say the developments in AI voices came strictly from this side of things. in fact, i distinctly remember back in the early 2010s, people were using websites with voice models of characters like glados (portal) and spongebob. these audio posts were seen as novelties, and admittedly theyre fun just to mess around with (and people often find the spongebob rap music that yourboysponge makes to be pretty well done!), they do lead the way to better developed technology that doesnt compensate the artist...

so back to vocaloid. the thing about vocaloid (and all vocal synthesizers) is that contracts are in place to give appropriate time and compensation, along with permission to even use the person's voice. saki fujita continues to update miku's voicebank because she is being paid well to do so. this can be said for all vocal synth products. because these companies (crypton, ahs software, internet co, etc) specialize in making these tools and products for it, they have the appropriate knowledge on what proper compensation looks like. a random person grabbing a "raiden shogun genshin ai voice" model has none of those things. the voice actress doesnt get money off of that. its stolen work. AI can be used ethically, but it has to be done with regulation.

im leaving out specifics on certain vocaloids/vsynthesizers since its tangential to this post at best, but im making this so people have a better understanding of the history and intended usage of vocal synthesizer software. thank youuuuu

i have no horse in the race but tumblr keeps informing me of related "discourse" so i will just be blabbering here for no reason. but it is sort of odd to me how, with regards to their view on a work, people seem to put extremely high stock in statements that authors make outside of the work, in situations where it does not really seem important to do that...

like i am just kind of explaining the concept of death of the author again (actual meaning of the phrase, not "miku made minecraft" death of the author) but its like. I think outside of certain situations you can really just ignore what an author says about what they wrote in an interview to some extent, as those are not actually contained within what the actual product is, so they're secondary at best. (There are exceptions for like, basic clarification stuff maybe, and also in some cases where an author was trying to convey like really bad opinions they have, I am trying to cut off this argument before it happens so I hope I'm phrasing this well)

But occasionally it seems like people act like when an author makes an interview its permanently appended to the books or the dvds or whatever and everyone has no choice but to see it every single time they read/watch it, like its part of the actual text, and its just like. It isn't though? Many years from now if someone views this work for the first time outside the context of its release then they're much less likely to even see really supplementary material like that. And the thing is still there basically unchanged whether you read the interviews or not. I think I'm being incoherent

Why do you insist on changing the meaning of terms not made for you? If you wanted endos to distance themselves from you so badly, why do you want to use their language?

Plural is not a synonym for system, and even then there's a debate on if Endogenic plurals should be allowed to use it as it's not a synonym for CDDs. But Plural specifically is a wider, more encompassing term that specifically just means "more than one in their head". It's opt in - did you know not all people with DID are plural?

Headmate is not a synonym for alter or part. It's a wider, more encompassing term, as is evident with how much more often it's used by non disordered systems.

Fictive and Factive are not synonyms for introject. They're also not short for "fictional introject". They originate from the soulbond community.

The plural community has been around encompassing the group of people who have systems much longer then the existence of endogenics. Your right, plural is an existence of more then one, which isn't something that only happens in DID. It happens in OSDD, in CDD, in variety of system based trauma disorders. Plural is a term used to encompass all of these things, instead of listing the disorders out. This does not include endogenics, because endogenics are people who are using systemhood as an identity you can claim like being queer, which is wrong. They don't have the prerequisites to be a system and are admitting that. Not an endo term.

You bring up disordered systems a lot, which are a separate thing thing then endos. Headmate is an encompassing term, for fragments, for other alters, for anything that is not you happening in your system. That's not an endo term that's a different term. Which I use. As a disordered system.

I don't know enough about the factive / fictive terms to say anything about what you've said. But they're shorthand terms used in most system circles for an introject, but with more niche connects to them. Aka, introject of a fictional character and introject of a real person. But what I do know is that introject is also a term that originates from the same source as these terms, so I'm inclined to believe you also don't know much about the actual sourcing of the terms.

Terms like system hopping came from endogenics. Trading alters is an endogenic thing. This is not possible, and incredibly misinformed. I don't use those terms because they are wrong. THAT is what endos have claims too.

miku binder thomas jefferson gets memed on an unfair amount i think. Not for the reasons you think, though. im not making any statements about whether it was some empowering radical reclamation. no it was weird. it was fucking weird and came from a place of full sincerity without a hint of irony. but it was NOT unique. Every piece of hamilton art from that era was pretty much IDENTICAL to miku binder thomas jefferson.

So every once in a while I'll hop on tumblr and see something from some new fandom going around. back in 2015 after undertale came out i was like oh there's a new game and its got skeletons. ok. when the locked tomb came out i was like oh its a series about skeletons and they're lesbians. cool. severance? guess those guys work in an office. like seeing that shit out of context could be mildly confusing but it does NOT compare to late 2015-early 2016.

I woke up one day. I logged onto tumblr. I saw some cutesy yaoi featuring multiracial teenagers in modern dress and thought oh nice, it's someone's ocs or some popular new series. Then I scrolled down and the caption would say "Thomas Jefferson and George Washington my useless stinky gay babies <333" and well. Well it took me out. retroactively I can explain the way I felt by imagining that's what it felt like to wake up to Goncharvoposting without being in on the joke.

but it wasn't a joke. People were foundingfathersposting as though these were characters from like, Voltron or something. Sincerely. It took me weeks to figure out what was going on. Because I looked in the notes and nobody was clearing ANYTHING up. I did not know what was happening. I was scared. I cannot stress enough that miku binder thomas jefferson kind of posting blended seamlessly into everything else going on in that era.

When I met a hamilton poster irl I asked her to explain the plot of hamilton to me. What she gave me was not a story. It was squee-ing and interjecting with comments about "and then aaron burr my gay loser son--" and it did not help. I was living in the middle of the dancing plague of the middle ages and I hadn't caught it.

the hivliving scandal? not surprising at all, the source material was so bizarre that it would have been weird if some white teenager from the US hadn't pretended to be three entire Asian women with elaborate crazy backstories who were for some reason extremely invested in american fandom discourse in order to promote a mid alternate universe fanfiction about the american founding fathers being high schoolers during the aids crisis of the 1980s.

it's easy to look back at these incidents and go "what the fuck, that was so fucking weird." but if you lived through it it was just hamiltonposting as usual. "yeah the show had a weird premise but the music was really good." okay but nobody was talking about the music. People were asking for donations to help people who didn't exist to pay for fake medical debt over Founding Fathers Blorboism.

"the music was really good" many years after miku binder thomas jefferson became a meme and people woke up to the fact that founding fathers shipping discourse was weird as hell, in the good year of 2020, my family bought tickets to see hamilton when the price to see it went down from "an arm and a leg" to a couple hundred dollars or so per person. they offered to buy me a ticket. and well. well i just couldn't take it. the magic was ruined for me. i could not get over initial feeling like i had been suddenly violently transported to an alternate universe when i woke up to all this beginning. also i didnt want context. i wanted to keep my understanding of hamilton as what it always was. something so insanely convoluted and confusing that context might ruin the mysticism. I still want to believe that Hamilton wasn't real and it was an actual Goncharov kind of thing. but it's not a goncharov thing and it was sincere.

so i said no. my family went to see it. the next day Broadway closed due to covid. my family came home with covid and i caught it. we all had it but I had it the worst.

Not only did hamilton give me the worst fandom experience of all time but it fucking gave me covid.

i think that a lot of endos are really misinformed and struggle with their self identity which is common for people even without trauma, but i also believe there's probably something going on up there for people who truly have the symptoms.

you prob have did/osdd/a cdd/etc and don't really understand the whole concept that it's all a trauma based thing. like you have it because you were traumatized as a kid, and if you say you weren't well unfortunately babes the fact is that you probably don't remember it because you're not supposed to. that's why you are a system.

mixed origins is really fucking stupid actually sorry you aren't traumagenic and whatevergenic you have a trauma disorder and you can split from any emotion, not just being upset so you prob have alters that aren't just split from smth traumatic happening. stress, excitement, joy, fear, sadness, anger, all the emotions can fuck you over. that's just how that works? sorry but not really
