lego mini! (hello this is lexie wakeupnew :D)

this was my first attempt at Date Night for bucktommy week! I really wanted to do something sweet and fun, but if something isn't writing the way I feel like it should be going, it tends to get shelved. I might finish it at some point if yall like this:

On that first night, Tommy is coming off a shift just as the kids are settling down for the night. When he arrives, they’re all gathered in Maddie and Chimney’s living room, digging through a bucket of Lego and crafting different things. The kids pull him into their crafting, given that they’ve already got Evan building with them—he insists he’s building a fire truck. And even though he’s fried from his workday, Tommy does join them. While they all work away at their individual builds, he starts crafting a helicopter. Of course, his and Evan’s builds aren’t anywhere near finished when Evan tells them it’s time to call it a night. He sees them each off to bed, tucks Jee in with a kiss goodnight, and then joins Tommy back in the living room, where he’s still working on the helicopter. As he comes to sit down next to his boyfriend, he’s taken by the craftsmanship on the build.  “We don’t have to keep doing this, you know,” Evan tells him, even as he reaches into the bucket for more red bricks.  Tommy glances up at him and smiles, even though the weariness is present in his expression.  “I don’t mind,” he replies. “I used to love playing with Legos as a kid.”  Evan lifts an eyebrow at him, but smiles back. He likes it when Tommy opens up. “Really?”  Tommy nods as he pieces a few blocks together. “Yeah. I mean I knew to stay out of my dad’s way, and my mom’s solution for that was usually to give me something to do with my hands. So I used to get really into builds.” He pauses for a moment and glances over at Evan’s half-finished fire truck. “Clearly you’ve had your own time with the bricks.”  Evan gives a small smile as he locks several bricks into place on the build.  “I mean, you know my parents weren’t really available to me, in any sense,” he replies, glancing up at Tommy briefly and then back at his truck. “But when I was really young, they would throw money at anything to keep me occupied. And then when it was mostly Maddie, she was still in high school, and then college, so she’d get me to do these crazy concepts just to help the time pass.”  Tommy nods as he listens to Evan. He pauses his working as Evan finishes his explanation and then reaches his hand closest to his boyfriend out, squeezing it. Evan glances up at him and the expression in Tommy’s eyes is one of sadness.  “I’m sorry they were like that to you,” he states softly. Everything in Evan tells him to shrug it off—that’s what he always does, dismisses the way his parents damaged him—but there’s something in the way that Tommy treats him that gives him the ability to own the empathy that he’s being given.  “Thanks,” he says softly. Tommy lets go of his hand, only to curl it under his chin and pull Evan towards him. The kiss is soft, but full; not pleading, but also expressive of this thing they’re cultivating between them. There’s no tangible evidence that either of them can reach out and touch, but whatever it is, it’s alive.

I don’t usually make a lot of wip posts BUT ! my friend had a bunch of second hand marines lying around so I took some off their hands and now am making a set of rainbow marines !

all I’ve done so far is just the first coat or two of the base colour on each mini (aside from orange bc I don’t have orange paint rn)

doing them all the same time has really made the disparities in how th paints are performing So Obvious. I could go into excruciating detail abt it but basically: the yellow and purple (both citadel) are being fucking Annoying and the red (citadel), green, and blue (both Vallejo) are all performing rlly well. i find vallejos flat colours are generally more consistently good than citadels (metallics and specialty paints r a diff story) but that’s just my experience!

not sure what I’m gonna do for these guys’ bases yet! they came into my hands already constructed and primed, and I usually leave minis off their bases until I’m done bc it gives me freedom to do fun basing stuff . we will see !

Grieving in his own way // wip

Charles has always left Edwin little notes slipped between the pages of his favorite books, in his science equipment, places he knows Edwin loves. Just silly things—post its that say “hi Edwin :)”. doodles of Edwin with his nose stuck in a book. reminders to stock up on wolfsbane. but.

Then, post canon, Edwin tentatively starts dating people. And it’s ridiculous, because Edwin’s right there, all the time, but Charles..misses him a bit. And his heads a mess, and he can’t sort out what the hell he’s feeling most of the time, and whenever he tries to say any of it out loud it comes out rubbish.

So. He writes down some of the shit he can’t say right, and because he’s a coward, hides them so he doesn’t have to see Edwin’s face when he reads them.

then Edwin starts writing back.

Neat lilac blue little envelopes appear in Charles coat pockets. In his bag. Once, in his shoe? Some nights, Edwin will clear his throat and mention something from a letter, offhand, like they’re just picking up conversation, and Charles can pretend they are. That they always have talked about the basement, the belt, the nameless fear that chokes him every time Edwin walks out the door with someone else on his arm.

Sometimes he can’t. The words get stuck in his throat. Edwin’s not mad, he’s maddeningly, stubbornly kind about it, which is worse.

Some nights they trade. A secret for a secret. Charles learns about the novels Edwin used to hide under his mattress, about all the lonely years before Charles got there. About Simon.

Meanwhile, Edwin is losing his mind, because Charles has accidentally stumbled onto what was a fucking courting ritual in his time. Love letters were something engaged couples treasured for years, kept and reread over and over. (Edwin does. keep them in a special box, will take one out and trace the words, tuck it in his breast pocket for courage).

Edwin would rather have to reattach a limb again than lose Charles trust, all the dark and beautiful things he shares with Edwin only. He knows—knows Charles doesn’t mean to make him fall more in love with him.

he is not quite done yet . but i wanted to share my wip/improvement from my first space marine to my second ! pls forgive the photo quality on the second two i am home for the break and dont have a good mini photo setup here

the one on the left is gasoline (Lenny for short), the first ever space marine i painted, and the one on the right is my yet unnamed new sillymander !

i tried out some new highlighting methods using akinteractive’s glaze medium and i am sososo happy with how it worked. really looking forward to getting to play around with that more :]

one day . i will finally get good at painting eyes and then I will be unstoppable
