dog !!!!!!!!! this mini is for my friends familiar in a campaign we’re playing (yes I know mastiffs aren’t technically RAW familiars . our gm is nice and let us have a dog anyways)

had so much fun painting this guy and im rlly happy with how it turned out

it’s not rlly super visible in any of the photos but I did some subtle brushstrokes in a very dark grey to try and make the fur a little more fur-ish

bird !!!! for friend !!!! finally complete !!! just ignore his face . the wings turned out the best and that’s mostly what’s gonna be visible on the table anyways so we stay silly ! other angles & more discussion below the cut

so for some context, this is my friends hero forge mini that I am painting for him ! this is my first time working on anything printed by heroforge

the wings:

these were . so time consuming . mostly my own fault ! but also , they were by far my favourite part of the sculpt/print on this mini. the details on the feathers are printed quite well, which made highlighting/shading a lot easier than it otherwise would’ve been ! honestly the hardest part of this was just getting it to look how snowy owl wings do, but im happy with how it turned out!

the rest of the mini:

the only thing I wasn’t thrilled about with the print on this mini was the clothing. the texture on the fabric parts is very flat, which makes it hard to get the fabric looking visually interesting, whereas a lot of other dnd models tend to have more complex clothing . I know that this is a little bit up to the person who’s making the mini, but I’ve noticed the same with some of the minis my brother has gotten off of heroforge as well. ultimately I think this one of the things that’s just hard for customizable minis !!! heroforge figures are still remarkably high quality for the degree of customization they offer.

I love getting to play around with new types of minis ! we love learning experiences !!!!

progress pics for a mini I am working on for my friend !! he is playing a snowy owl owlin rogue

all I have worked on so far is just the wings bc I decided to put way more effort than I needed to into the details on them as usual . some of them are a little messy bc my hands will on and off get really shaky while I’m painting and I am too stubborn to stop when that happens .

our campaign is virtual rn but I am hoping to finish this before we get back into in person sessions :] (I am also secretly working on a mini of his familiar (dog) but I’ve barely made any progress on that)

I don’t usually make a lot of wip posts BUT ! my friend had a bunch of second hand marines lying around so I took some off their hands and now am making a set of rainbow marines !

all I’ve done so far is just the first coat or two of the base colour on each mini (aside from orange bc I don’t have orange paint rn)

doing them all the same time has really made the disparities in how th paints are performing So Obvious. I could go into excruciating detail abt it but basically: the yellow and purple (both citadel) are being fucking Annoying and the red (citadel), green, and blue (both Vallejo) are all performing rlly well. i find vallejos flat colours are generally more consistently good than citadels (metallics and specialty paints r a diff story) but that’s just my experience!

not sure what I’m gonna do for these guys’ bases yet! they came into my hands already constructed and primed, and I usually leave minis off their bases until I’m done bc it gives me freedom to do fun basing stuff . we will see !

back at it again with 2 new sillymanders to add to the heap !! their names are patty(or Patrick) short for patrician (left), and Ryan short for centurion (right). (I was watching a classics lecture while I was finishing their bases)

mini for a dnd character in one of the campaigns I’m currently playing in :] his name is Quincy he’s a clockwork soul sorcerer he’s the prettiest and most killable boy in the party

the base on this guy was super lazily done bc he was haunting me and I needed the mini to be Done already

not sure how I feel abt this new photo setup. will try something else next time

he is not quite done yet . but i wanted to share my wip/improvement from my first space marine to my second ! pls forgive the photo quality on the second two i am home for the break and dont have a good mini photo setup here

the one on the left is gasoline (Lenny for short), the first ever space marine i painted, and the one on the right is my yet unnamed new sillymander !

i tried out some new highlighting methods using akinteractive’s glaze medium and i am sososo happy with how it worked. really looking forward to getting to play around with that more :]

one day . i will finally get good at painting eyes and then I will be unstoppable

this is my first ever sillymander Gasoline (we call him Lenny for short). I just finished him recently and I am pretty happy with how it looks, especially for having never painted a space marine before :) I do not know if I will give this man company or leave him solitary . time will tell

New Warhammer 40k Pride Series – Sisters of Battle Edition !

You might already know the pride series I made by painting 12 LGBT flags inspired Space Marines (if not you can see it here), but I am at it again, this time with Sisters of Battle.

I’ve already done 4 of them, the 3 up top (from left to right : trans pride, lesbian pride, asexual pride) and the latest of the bunch, the Bisexual Pride Sister of Battle :

(Yes, she removed her helmet just to look cool pulling the grenade pin with her teeth ! Style matter in w40k :p)

I’ve a bunch more planned. I’m not sure I will do a 1 for 1 of the flags chosen for the Space Marine or not, I will see as I go along, my goal being always, first and foremost, to have fun painting.

4. Co’ar !

the first photo of this set is what this mini looked like when I first got him. the factory paint was thick, unshaded, and made his features basically indistinguishable. I put him in some good ol acetone soup (he’s a metal mini so no harm was done to him by the soup) and repainted him! took me a couple tries to settle on the right skin tone but I’m real happy with the before and after on this guy

not a lot of detail on this girl because she was really too tiny to do much other than flat colors and a wash. could’ve done some more interesting highlights on her but I’m still pretty happy with how she looks

she’s so chill . cape is boring ignore the cape. this was before I really had the confidence to mess around with shading on surfaces like clothing but I’m still pretty happy with the armor and the shield
