1. i think meredith or arthur deserve their Own episode.....meredith technically is In a lot & has a lot abt her but not specifically from her POV...pic unrelated my mumma

biology & wildlife-

basically alkalibans are very bug-like, the little colored bits on their arms & tails are actually a type of carapace or exoskeleton & instead of puberty like humams they go thru a long molting process which usually ends at like 13ish w/ sexual maturity at around 19 or 20. i have to redraw this shitty ass chart someday but heres a baby grub born of an egg and a toddler + some stuff thats specific to ppl from the coast. whether an individual can produce eggs is not rlly linked to AGAB and is pretty much random. average lifespan is like 200-210 w the oldest alkaliban ever living to 228

some ppl keep the venomous trait into adulthood (for example zach has this), its kinda like how some ppl have that useless tendon in their wrist. most venom isnt That powerful but for some ppl its pretty lethal. theres easily accessible & effective antivenoms available for alkalibans, for ppl from earth its still being worked on. its pretty much like having bandaids around, its just seen as something that Happens sometimes & isnt a huge deal usually

alkalibans dont have a traditional sense of smell, thats what the antennae are for. also their little pawpads on their hands can pick up scent but not As strongly. like how u can smell with ur mouth but its not that good or useful. also silly fun fact noodle only having 1 antenna is a minor birth defect, comparable to being born with like a missing toe or some minor shit. it does mean hes kinda """noseblind""" tho which actually kinda benefits him bc he literally worked as a fishmonger at his parents local business for like half his life

normally markings show up (if they have any) after molting. also molting takes like 3-4 years to complete other than that alkalibans mostly age on the same timeline as humans do, but a bit slower after around 80 or so. also some misc stuff im not retyping

all native wildlife is considered endangered/protected and can only be handled or farmed by professionals (tex and his family are highly respected since they deal with farming from both native and spliced species) 75-80% of plants + animals on alkaliba are originally from earth but genetically modified for the climate on alkaliba or to suit the populations needs. its Very common to have hybrid pets, also anyone coming in contact with anything relating to alkaliban wildlife is either certified to do so or INSANELY rich (BUT ALSO NEEDS REQUIRED SUPERVISION OR APPROVAL FROM MULTIPLE PROFESSIONALS) some pics of wildlife i did lol

astronomy-

most of the stuff relating to this is outdated but i do have this..alkaliba is actually similar enough to earth that ppl from both planets can live on the other with like only a Few small issues. alkaliba has less oxygen and slightly lower gravity, & is also a bit warmer (lowest temp ever recorded was 46F, highest is still being measured but so far itd be like 211F) also no snow Anywhere Ever. alkalibans have awful cold tolerance. and theres only 2 or 3 continents i have yet to name them

social/culture(?)-

this parts the one ive been working on recently so probably not as long or coherent...its somewhat comparable to earth bc like most things the culture is Also borrowed but there Are some unique things. i think itd be considered rude to have ur tail positioned upwards or away from urself or kind of like. it can be taken as a threat/aggression since thats where the stinger is?? its more polite to keep it pointed down & as close to u as possible, & for ppl with spikes its best to keep them retracted unless its a genuine threat display otherwise u look like an asshole. also keeping claws filed down is a common thing too, some ppl dont and its seen as kinda weird or like gives an intimidating or straight up bad impression on occasion but at the end of the day its a personal choice

an alkalibans horns are a Really personal part of them, like itd be genuinely really fucking offensive to touch them w/o permission & is usually reserved for romantic partners (its like having tits Sort of. like the social rules are on the same track. also for some ppl they do have like a purpose in a sexual setting, its different for everyone). "sharpening" them on stuff is Kindof common practice but mostly just for fun, not rlly bc it has a (modern) purpose or anything but also they do just get itchy sometimes (sometimes it gets REALLY uncomfortable during the later stages of molting tho, its considered kind of a "childish" behavior to some ppl but a large majority dgaf). i also think rubbing horns against someone/something with their scent on it is a sign of DEEP trust & affection & is Also usually reserved for partners or Really Really close friends or family

im still working on history but i do know they dont separate years by months necessarily, they use quarters instead with each having 4 months. i have yet to name all 4 quarters tho. BUT in the early 2nd quarter they do have a national holiday celebrating melody & her contribution to alkalibas survival since she Is kind of a religious figure there

also alkaliba is separated into zones a lot like countries that literally exist on earth. like how zach & hayate are japanese, indie & pèpîne are french, noodle is mexican tex is american etc etc u get it. its mostly cartoon logic but its nice 2 have an actual reason LOL ok thats the end of this one hi

3. OUGH...lenarrs LOVES yellowstone his dad would take him & ruben out there on occasion & theyd stay in a remote cabin he loved it. i literally have an episode where lenarr makes tix & zach take him (& tiabi) there and its awesome. i think his favorite thing ever would be the springs🥹 i think just spending time there w arthur & zach & tix & tiabi would be the best ever to him

How do you make your templates?

Here’s what you gotta do!

The Internetoverdosed Method (patent pending)

1. Gather what you need

You’ll need an image-hosting website, editing software, and a gif-editing website.

I personally use postimages.org (imgur used to be good, but they’re starting to delete accounts when they’re not active), Clip Studio Paint, and ezgif.com. But you can use whatever!

For image hosting in particular, I can also recommend imgbox.com for image hosting that doesn’t require an account.

I also use Pinterest for inspiration, as well as to gather assets for editing~

2. Find an image you want to use

This image should have a very strong color palette! This color palette can be anything, though, really…

3. Edit the image

As much or as little to your liking! I typically clip my images onto a shape. Like a star or heart.

4. Find small pixel art pieces that match your color palette

I use tumblr for this! I search the tags “#favicon(s)’, ‘#decome’ and ‘#pixel(s)’. But there are lots of carrds, Neocities sites and rentries that gather a ton of pixel art pieces in one place, too!

If the pixel art doesn’t exactly match your main image, throw it in your editing or gif editing tool and edit it to match better!

5. Set it all up!

Rentry’s ‘how’ tab is a great place to start if you’re confused on how anything works!

As for the contents of your site, I personally always include names, pronouns, age and race. Plus room for other misc labels, whether that be LGBT+ labels, diagnoses or other such things. But you can put whatever you see fit!

Accessibility over aesthetics ALWAYS!! People moved from rentry to carrd because rentry is easier to read… So making your rentry hard to read defeats the point!! In the words of Dieter Rams, “Good design is as little design as possible.” In this vein: don’t skimp out on alt text either!

Check how your rentry looks on mobile. And in dark vs light mode too!

The limited amount of colored text you can use (blue and pink text, yellow highlights and blue, green, yellow and red spaces) is great if it matches your color palette!

You can also use text deco to fancy it up even more. (Just make sure it doesn’t turn into an emoji on mobile!) I don’t use a particular website for this. I just Google it! BUT don’t use those fancy fonts! Screenreaders can’t read those, and what did we just say about accessibility?

CREDIT YOUR ARTISTS! You can link to someone via an image.

There are lots of places that host small LGBT+ pride flags and other such things for your rentries! In fact… I’m an admin on one! /pixelflags is a super extensive LGBT+ flag-hosting resource and has a even requesting form.

Similarly, /madpride is another rentry resource that I admin! It hosts disability and disorder pride flags / symbols, and also has a requesting form.

*NEW* Holiday Frames - Our Founder Julia Baritz was feeling festive and designed a new set of frames to celebrate the holiday season. Head over to your Account Settings to check them out. (Note: the avatar frame selection widget now displays the default user avatar inside each frame as an example to make it more apparent how the frame will look when applied. The widget now also scrolls vertically.

Claimed Registration Key Notice - We’re taking the guesswork out of figuring out if a registration key has already been claimed or not. If someone tries to use a registration link that has already been used, the page will display an error message.

“IntroduceYourself” Community - Beginning today, all newly registered users will be added to the IntroduceYourself Community upon completing registration, to help new users find people to follow.

Bug Fixes/Misc Improvements

Alt text has been fixed for images added via the rich text editor.  (Note: In our continued effort to improve accessibility on Pillowfort, we plan to add the ability to add alt text to images using the photo grid uploader as well in a future update.)

Fixed a bug where banning a user from a Community via the community flag system didn’t work as intended.

The Community Flags Page will no longer refresh after every flag decision submission, so managing Community Flags will be much faster & more efficient now. Submitting a decision on a flag will also auto-dismiss any copies of that flagged item in the flag queue.

The checkbox for whether to delete existing reblogs of a post when changing its privacy level was accidentally removed during the recent UI update. It has now been restored.

Updated the Rules, Watch, Unwatch, and Join button icons in Community headers to be more relevant to their function.

Changed the icon for showing a user’s blog sidebar on mobile to be more relevant.

Improved the wording on Notifications for Replies.

Fixed a bug where some users were unable to successfully save changes to their account settings.

Fixed a bug where the NSFW toggle on the Community settings page didn’t reflect the proper value.

Good morning! The days of navigating a bunch of boring-looking Google Docs are over - the Semicolon Mansion AU now has an official Carrd! It looks a little better on desktop, but was also made to be readable on mobile devices (though you might have to zoom in a little bit). Same as the docs, this Carrd has an about section, a worldbuilding section, a glossary, and it also has a brief overview of the primary cast as well as a section that will link to all works in the series in chronological order. I might also add a misc info/FAQ page if it's ever necessary. I hope this makes my ultimate passion project a little more accessible!!

Witchcraft for the Chronically Fatigued

Fatigue looks at things such as tiredness, drowsiness, exhaustion, weakness, lethargy and memory issues and says “I can do all that and more!”. It leaves you feeling utterly trapped in your own body; unable to move, or even think at times. It fluctuates, but is always looming. 

While this post is open for all, it is written for those who truly relate to this all-consuming feeling (due to ME/CFS, other chronic illnesses, mental illness, or undiagnosed causes). Not all of these may work for you, but hopefully they inspire something that will. For general low energy witchcraft, check out my Bedridden Witch Series!

As always: witchcraft is to be used in addition to proper medical care, treatment and medication; not as a sole alternative.

To draw energy:

If you cannot produce your own, magically created will be just fine!

Crystals. 

I tend to use clear quartz for an energy boost, but trust your intuition; if something calls to you, it’s for a reason. 

Keep it near your bedside table, under your pillow, hold it in your hand or place it on your body where you feel the fatigue most strongly centered. 

When on the go, carry it in your pocket or wear as jewelry. If it is larger, carry in a bag and hold it when you need it. 

Charge using a charging board or the elements. 

Crystals for fatigue

Waters.

Physically touching water brings me energy. I keep jars of snow, rain, storm, river, stream (etc, etc.) water and will dip my fingers in it and mark that parts of my body where the fatigue feels strongest. Be aware of pollutants and do not ingest!

The same method can be done with tap water (or water charged under the sun or moon)

Drink sun water or sun tea (start with drinking safe water and let it absorb the energies of the sun).

Some people find moon water to be energizing (same process as above, just with the moon).

Other elements.

Note what is energizing to you and what is draining to you. Consider: the sun, moon (and it’s phases), weather (rain, overcast, snow, storm, wind), cold vs. hot, the earth, fire, air, etc.

Once you find which elements are energizing to you, find ways to incorporate them into your life. Examples: jars of different waters or soils, rocks collected from places, candles, and more.

I usually draw energy up from the earth by placing my palms flat towards the earth by the sides of my body. So if I was lying down, my arms would be at my sides with my palms facing down.

Expose yourself or protect yourself. I’ll use my personal experiences as an example here... Rain often energizes me. When it rains, I’ll open my windows, and if I’m able I’ll step outside or collect some water. On the flipside, full moons often drain me. I’ll close my windows and curtains, hang an extra blanket over my bedroom window, use water to paint protective sigils on the window and increase my wards.

Practicing the craft with energy limitations:

Tips and tricks:

I highly recommend preparing things when your energy allows, so it’s always ready to go when you need it (and isn’t dependent on current energy levels). 

Cleansing: Let other things do your work for you. Open your windows/get fresh air, steam or smoke, sound, etc. Bedridden energy cleansing.

Divination: Use apps when physical movement is hard. One card spreads, shorten your pendulum so you don’t need to lift your arm, divine using the elements, etc. Bedridden divination.

Spells: Make your own spell kits. Spell jars and sachets are also an excellent way to already have the spell prepared, set it up so you can simply shake it to re/activate the spell.

Warding: Create physical ties for your wards that aren’t reliant on consistent upkeep (as a failsafe), and reinforce your other ward layers when you have the energy. I create far more layers than I need so when I am unable to reinforce them, they still protect me. 

Worship: Compile prayers and devotions somewhere you can easily find and read them, have a wall altar for easy maintenance, keep offerings simple (a glass of water, for example). Bedridden worship.
