How i got into Fairy Tail

Thank you so much @miscellaneousramblings for tagging me ;_; Ok so my english sucks but i will do my best to explain xD. I first discovered FT when i was 11, at my school and i didn't have a clue of what it was talking about. I just knew it by name, thanks to the boy who was sitting near me. I noticed Lucy, Natsu and Happy on his book and i asked him how was called the anime. Then, he told me and that was all... 1 hour later i have already forgotten xD. But on day, while i was watching TV, the channel started to put the first episodes of FT ( of course, dubbing with French voices... aha ). And that's basically how i fell into the FT fandom %D. I started to become crazy about it, begging my friends to watch... And everyday, at 19h i was waiting for my episodes ... But you know, there is something really annoying with the TV channels because i remembered that i was at the Daphne and the Dragons's filler arc and then the day after.... They put the first episode again AHHHH WTF And later, the channel just stopped FT and started One Piece instead. I had a big break with FT, until it came back few months later with Tenroujima. And this moment is really important because back in 2011 , at the instant i saw Zeref crying, he becames immediatly my favorite character of all animes. Before him i was really into Jellal and Roy from FMA but my poor angsty handsome black mage won my heart in a few episodes xD After this, the anime just stopped again and for 2 years i totally forget FT until the anime came back again and stopped just after the Tenroujima arc huuugh... and at this moment i decided to looking for the manga. I found it and read all the avalaible chapters. I didn't know that every week there was a chapter and sometimes i went to the site 3 weeks later or even everyday, in hope to have a new chapter... Then i read chapter 436, the day where it was released and i was so excited and crazy about that i decided to looking for other sites with udaptes and i found it... you can't even imagine how happy i was when i discovered that every weeks we had a new chapter xD And so... until this day i've never stopped to follow FT. In 2015 I found beautiful fanarts on a thing called "tumblr" and i spent a whole year following my favorite artists without being on tumblr ( i was too shy ). But seeing all the recent hate toward FT made me want to defend my favourite characters and my childhood manga. That's why i decided to join the other part of the fandom here :) THAT'S FINISHED i'm so sorry for the big text full of english mistakes. I think i went a little to far lmao. Ahhh, well, I’ve always loved Nalu and that hasn’t changed. :D But for a while now I’ve been appreciating some not so popular ships in the fandom more. Like Stingue’s bond, Gratsu’s friendship, Chendy’s development, the beautiful Graylu, the underrated Gajuvia, etc. ^^

H - What is your favorite source text for fandom stuff (e.g., TV shows, movies, books, anime, Western animation, etc.)? 

Anime. Almost none of the people that know me in real life (ugh, I’ve always disliked saying that, because this is real life too; but you get my point ^^) watch anime, so Tumblr has actually been a blessing in that regard.

Hello ! I just wanted to tell you how much I appreciate your positivity and constructive criticism in regards to FT. I follow the series for a couple characters and ships and while I've not been extremely happy with the latest developments, I reckon Mashima has got some reasons to write what he does we are yet to discover. And part of this fandom has a way to blow everything out of proportion that never ceases to depress me. So thanks again for your nice inputs and lovely blog :) All the best~

Thank you so much!! I have like no patience irl, but when it comes to FT, I’m always willing to support it through thick and thin. I have great faith in Mashima. I know some chapters are shifty, but I can count on him for big revelations and plot twists~ It really is a good series.

-How I first entered the fandom:i follow a little comic called cucumber quest, and the author helped with the production. she said it was an excellent little game. i decided i’d try it and it was the best 10 bucks ive ever spent.

-Fave Character:Papyrus! he’s very fun and the biggest sweetheart.

-OTP: undyne and alphys are darling

-Pairing everyone likes but I don’t get: well. it’s not everyone, but some people think that tori and asgore could get back togther one day and i’m like…. no….

Soooo, since you want to talk about Zeref and I want to talk about him too... what should we discuss about ? I should begin to say that your art of him is just beautiful and spot-on. Your piece with 'Smother' in particular got me on the brink of tears. Let's start with two questions maybe: Why is he your favourite character ? And how do you think Mashima is gonna handle his character from now on, and his relations to Natsu and Mavis ? (sorry, that's a lot to answer to).

First off, I adore the way this guy is composed. Since the Eisenwald arc, we heard about this ancient, evil wizard who crafted horrible demons and spells bent on destruction. A lot of mob villains and primary villains have been faithful followers and cultists seeking his rise to power. In their own interest, of course. The point is, all throughout the series before his appearance, he was hyped up as this no good, merciless, twisted figure who was about as horrible as you could get. But when we finally meet him, it turns out he’s just miserable, reclusive, and a boiling vat of self hatred. And I think that in itself encompasses a lot of the reasons why I love his character.

Zeref is my favorite character primarily in how different he is compared to the other villains of Fairy Tail, and how this difference was created; the protagonist. And everything that ties into that. He’s sympathetic and tragic, but not to the point where one can excuse his actions. And he is so capable of love and compassion, even in his unstable state and his attempts to avoid it. To me, it seems like once Zeref loves, he does it with all his heart, setting us up for some horrible Ankseram shenanigans. As far as I can remember, he is the only leading villain in Fairy Tail who’s had some redeemable qualities from the moment we met him, as he destroys and kills, but not always by choice. Even through his more manipulative phases, he continues to care. Obvious example: Natsu. I mean, Natsu died in a fire, so he and Igneel made him impervious to it. The irony is beautiful.

And he’s understandably selfish, a refreshing quality. Not only is he selfish in bringing Natsu back, but also in his current stance on the world, I think. I could be stretching it a bit. But to me, it seems like he’s got this attitude of ‘If I am to be the only person in the world, and if there’s no more hope for me, then I get to mold it in the way that I choose’. Because he also very vindictive, which is surprising for him. He’s stated that he despises human conflict, having witnessed countless wars over the span of four centuries, plus he was particularly angry with Hades, one who committed atrocities for his rise to power with a false reason. He even put a stop to Mard Geer, in the end, even though E.N.D would have definitely been unleashed. Anyway, his idea is to stop conflict altogether because he hates it and has had to live with it for so long, is what I’m saying. And he has a common enemy with the guild in Acnologia, which puts an interesting twist in it. But this vindictive attitude applies to himself as well, as he wants to put a stop to all the killing that he caused with his death (or did, previously).

And it’s impressive how he’s held on for so long? His only hope was Natsu at the point of the Eclipse project, and he was anticipating his arrival for four hundred years. And even after his meeting with him on Tenrou, he was willing to hold out a little longer, seven more years. He’s procrastinated up to this point because he wants to believe he can be stopped. And towards the end, he was so desperate that he was willing to kill Natsu’s remaining guardian as a last ditch effort to get himself destroyed. Hell, he even told Natsu the truth of his existence in order to bait him into attacking, though that probably wasn’t the only reason he had. I think what we saw back there was Zeref finally slipping, and getting so fed up with everything that he finally decided he was gonna go through with it.

And for all that, he is a very quiet kind of person. He’s all encompassing in his essence, but it’s kind of in the background until it decides to hit you in the face, ever since Eisenwald arc. We don’t really spare him a thought until that name is dropped or he does something. Basically, for all his fame and power, he hasn’t really been a real threat until now, and when he is a threat, it’s not some loud and flashy proclamation or power. He’s very much wrapped up in his own head, I think, and keeps things to himself. This extends to his power, too; how does he even do half of it? The most we’ve gotten are hand movements, and we’ve yet to utter a single incantation. This scene is a good reference for what I’m trying to say ;; I think the flashiest thing he’s done at this point was what he used to kill Hades, and that was only when he was mad.

THIS IS GETTING LONG, SO I’LL SUM UP AND GET TO THE NEXT QUESTION: Zeref is overly compassionate, vindictive, patient, selfish, unstable, and miserable, and it’s all wrapped up in a quiet, unpredictable demeanor. I think I might be exaggerating exactly how multi faceted he is, but his character is so interesting that it’s my kneejerk reaction. I LOVE a character that can make me do that.

Next question, holy shit. I think, or at least I hope, that Zeref will be resolute in his conviction for a time. The story itself pushes that theme a lot, so it’d be nice to see a blatantly negative side of it. He will kick Natsu’s ass into next week, he’ll destroy everything Mavis cares about, he won’t care (the fact that he has Natsu’s book in his possession and CAN DESTROY IT scares me, but also makes me think that he has a sliver of hope left). If he cares about the state of Fairy Heart, it won’t be because of his residual love for Mavis, it will be because the mission was jeopardized. Or so I think.

But I really hope that Natsu will attempt to understand his brother, and act accordingly. Because he’s punch first, ask questions later guy. There have been so many instances where Natsu has told his enemies that he didn’t care about what they had to say, when in some cases he maybe should have at least listened. Case in point. I think that this would be a great point for Natsu to learn that some people can do terrible things if or when they have been broken sufficiently, and while they should be stopped, they shouldn’t fall into the black and white category he’s set up for himself. He seems willing to forgive and befriend after a correction in behavior though (Gajeel, Sabertooth). I’m not suggesting he befriend Zeref, of course. But Natsu is very vindictive to the point where he doesn’t even consider the situation first, and I’m hoping that at this point he will start taking steps back and thinking about his surrounding circumstances, first. His recent worry over putting the holes in the guild seemed like his first steps toward doing that, and I hope he only grows from here. :)

Mavis seems the type to do just that; if she notices a sway in his behavior, she would utilize it and try to bring it to the forefront of his thoughts. For manipulative reasons, and because she cares about him, or what he once was. She also doesn’t know anything/ much about Zeref and Natsu’s relationship, so her finding out might only spur her onward to change his attitude, not defeat him. I mean, if nothing else, she wouldn’t want Natsu to die unless there was no other way, and if I’ve read Mashima correctly, there will be. Another way. That is.

I want them to be successful in changing his behavior, and I want Natsu to kill him after doing so. I also want Natsu to survive, because his death in this particular case would be so unfair. And I want Zeref to be happy with that; it would mean that he’s ready to accept and move on. I want the death to be quick and quiet; no one celebrates, but no one really mourns, either. It’d just kind of be… over. Who knows if Mashima will deliver, but I sincerely hope that, at the very least, he won’t be given same end as all the other antagonists, that he won’t just be overcome by massive amounts of power, and that his end will be personal and a bittersweet victory.
