Thought that since we're already brought Dickory and his Leafeon into the unofficial canon of the pokemon AU, is was only fair to at least try my shot at giving him a team
Tumblr media
So, my thought behind it is that being a bounty hunter, Dickory doesn't really have an actual traditional team, but actually various pokemon he swaps around to fit whatever job he's currently doing (... exceptions may apply). Kinda like Ash Ketchum but if he was a little fucked up, parentified and vaguely german. So anyways, lets start off with his exceptions actually, his starter, Delphox and basically his first annoying brat, Zoroark.
While Zoroark he excuses its permanent slot on the team for its practicality and function, afterall a shape-shifting pokemon is the perfect companion for a bounty-hunter on the go, he is waaay more attached to that mischievous trouble-making little shit than he would ever like to admit and unfortunately for Dickory's dismay, Zoroark certainly knows that and it looooves do to shit that only it can get away with
Delphox, he has admittedly less pratical excuses for but he rather be shot than part ways with his starter. That's his first pokemon that has been with him for literally everything and more, he would rather get a job busted because he couldn't come up with a good enough excuses why a particular disguise has a Delphox than to be apart for more than a week maximum.
Why I particularly choose Delphox is... kinda biased, I just like it a lot and think its a neat and underated polemon. But in my defense, Dickory does come from a cold mountainous place so a fire starter would be a very practical and convenient choice for him and irl foxes aren't uncommon in those types of environments sooooo
Moving on, we have his additional teammates and those are a funny bunch to me really. So just how in the fic Dickory has very little knowledge about how pop trolls live and what they are actually like, I wanted to give him pokemon that were just left of what actual pokemons pop trolls would prefer and normally have (with exception of Leafeon but it gets a pass for the established plot reasons)
Leafeon and Gogoat were obviously pretty easy choices for him, forest equals plant pokemon, easy and logical. But I would also like to think that Gogoat is one of his earliest pokemon since they would be likely very common in the Indie Mountains (its also a nod to the goat yodelling trolls headcanon, which I personally really enjoy. My silly german goat-people blorbos from my movie)
Ursaring and Jellicent are where he missed the mark really, his thought process was "Uhm what other pokemon would a pop troll have? Ah yes, thing that lives in forest and pokemon that is pink. Easy" And well, they wouldn't be entirely out-of-place if they ever go to the village so he could've chosen worse, but they would definitely stand out and I don't think Dickory would enjoy that as a disguised bounty hunter
So, there you have it. Also I used a different program this time because I'm using my phone, so rip I guess
I love the thought you put into this team!
I could also see Dickory with a Mimikyu. It's fairy type pokemon (Pop Trolls love fairy types) and the joke rights itself.

She thought he had been joking.
Another witty twisting of words, when the proposition had left him all those few days ago. An excuse to sit her back down at another table, in another café, only this timed so shallowly named with what an outsider looking in might think it to be. A premise agreed to if only with the thought that time wasted with herself would disallow him the opportunity to harm another or siphon more from her world to his own. How Serena wishes to have been right. She, who stands in the doorway with carefully twirled curls, both dress and coat crease-free. The words he utters miss her ears, eyes glued upon something resting in the nook of his arms. Flowers. Blue, yellow, and shades of pink. Not just any flowers, nor ones picked up from the nearest store at the last second. Indeed can steeled eyes see even from here that they, while not correct in their entirety, are reminiscent of the ones nestled in the ribbon of her own hat. Flowers from the meadow—from where her soul resides.
And it dawns on her that perhaps he may have meant it all.
Against her better judgement, the heroine goes to greet him. A gentle push of the door close, a few steps away from its safety, and she drapes an arm around the back of his neck, feather-light and perfumed and over as quickly as it is placed— some fraction of a proper gesture, excused by the bouquet between them. And she wears upon her lips a rehearsed and fair smile. It would be far too much of a risk to turn him away now, after all, and his arrival in of itself had interrupted the stretch of time she had spent before a mirror.
“You really did not have to, but… thank you. They’re beautiful,” Serena says as hands move to take the flowers from his grasp. Eyes flicker, and she is left with a mind scrambling for its next move. “You look nice, by the way.”
Her focus falls upon a Delphox linger not too far behind—to a basket poised upon her arm. Then, back to him. Most certainly is this not what he might be armed with if a simple café had been in mind. Without much thought, her head lulls to the side.
“If you had said something, maybe I’ve forgotten it, but… where are we going?”

A Little Rambling
With "Pokémon Legends: Z-A" coming, I'm trying to re-establish my version of Serena in my works. Although I told myself I would distance myself from my main muse, the return to Kalos brought me back to her.
This Serena is different than usual, for I established her as having traits of Chloe and Liko due to not encountering Ash in childhood. She begins her story as a quiet bookworm who chooses a Fennekin as her first partner. While a good person, her family situation has left her isolated growing up. Her initial friend was a boy named Calem, but they lost contact after he started his journey.
Grace tries to get her out of her shell by having her take Rhyhorn Racing lessons. Her attempts are hit and miss, and it's only when her daughter mistakes Ash for Calem that she realizes a Pokémon journey is what gets her to open up.
It works. Serena meets Ash, Clemont, Bonnie, and others, finds her calling as a Coordinator, and realizes her strength as a girl who can use Mega Evolution.
Her main Pokémon are Delphox, Fancy Pattern Vivillon, female Meowstic, Pangoro, Shiny (Mega) Absol, and Sylveon.

(Tried making this post a different way but it felt like I got too needlessly hot-headed about any chance of any Paldean Pokémon being in Z-A) Passionfruit and Apple, photobombing photos of the trio I want for the Z-A starter trio isn’t going to magically grant you access to [insert time period here] Kalos, even though in this situation they are absolutely getting regional variants at least just to be fair given Blaziken already has a Mega (also I think the current general theory is regional variants of a mix-and-match starter trio plus Kalos starters with Megas and I’ll be honest, I wouldn’t be too mad at us just getting the Kalos starters either. I chose both of my top 2 favourite starters his gen (Meowscarada and Quaquaval) so let me choose my third-favourite too (Delphox). That would be fun. Especially given I like to count Wake and Leaves as Mythicals so in Violet I’d have my favourite starter (Spriggie the Meowscarada) and favourite Mythical (Cherry the Iron Leaves), in Scarlet I have my second favourite starter (Quax the Quaquaval) and second favourite Mythical (Blueberry the Walking Wake) and then in Z-A I could complete the trios by having my third favourite starter (Delphox, which I think I’d call Fennec, to match the one I have in GO that follows the same name scheme as the Quaxwell and Meowscarada I have in GO who share names with my starters in Scarlet and Violet respectively) and my third favourite Mythical (Zeraora. I don’t think I’m keeping up the fruit name scheme I’ve been using for the Proto Beasts and Neo Swords I’m happy to just call it Zera))
But I think it’s a pretty good choice of starter trio (and not just because I love them all):
Meganium is pretty and can represent Kalos’s beauty theme, now with flowers. I guess it would also benefit from having a secondary type (although that doesn’t stop people from loving Sceptile, something I clearly didn’t realise until I saw someone on idk maybe Reddit say that Grass-type Starters would be more popular if Meganium and Sceptile swapped trios) but this was more supposed to be why I think individually each starter I chose has a pretty decent chance of being in Z-A if we get a mix-and-match starter trio (not that one of them being in the trio makes the other two any less likely but I’d be surprised if I somehow managed to get every single starter for Z-A right just because I was biased when I picked these)
Blaziken got its Mega early in X and Y even though the other Hoenn Starters had to wait until ORAS plus it can reference the remakes like how PLA had Cyndaquil. Just generally I think it would be a missed opportunity to forget about it
Inteleon represents last generation to match how PLA had Rowlet
Also why is it the most common pairing of a Proto Beast with any Neo Sword they’re not counterparts with is Fire and Crown? At one point I even thought the two of them were the most likely members of their trios to join UNITE. Plus my headcanons that the shiny Proto Beasts and shiny Neo Swords have different personalities to their non-shiny instances (I guess I’ve decided that there’s only two of each of them: a shiny and a non-shiny) has led to the two of them being the closest to their shiny counterparts personality-wise (and I realised in general Fire seems to be the most feral out of the six of them and Crown seems to be the most stoic out of the six of them because while their counterparts from the other trio have similar personalities to them, Boulder is more scheming and Bolt is more grumpy (it’s called Raging Bolt for a reason))

ALTAR OF THE SUNNE
(Big writing below cut!!)
-
Kittsu looked at the map, humming in thought as she tried to make out the tiny sun-blinded shapes compressed on her darkened phone screen. Arc, she was already bad enough at navigation, it’s taken the entire morning just to get to this point with her tiny, tiny excuse for a map that would’ve been infinitely easier to read if she had just bought one… passing up that opportunity was a complete waste, especially seeing as it wasn’t even illegal to travel through Vast Poni Canyon as a tourist. It was just uncommon, and you need to be equipped with a well trained team before trying to make the trek all the way through to the final destination. To the Altar of the Sunne. The place where she prays she might find answers.
Alola… the sun… the green text appearing on her blog, text she couldn’t have written; that shows up no matter how many times she changes her password. The green text that tells stories of... wax and melting and the sun. The chances of this being one huge coincidence have to be pretty low, right? If it was all one big coincidence, then it’s awfully convenient of Paula to simply teleport Kittsu right where she believed her questions would be answered.
Kittsu chewed on this thought as she walked into yet another cave. How long had she been climbing the oddly tame slopes? The air was thinner, she could tell that much at least, and when she looked down she felt a sense of gratitude that she was not cursed with a fear of heights. She mused about which god she could thank for that as she traversed the earthen maze, stopping once she found a sort of pillar, carved with a stylized sun. This was the fourth one she had encountered, right on the edge of a wooden bridge that should really install some handrails. She was getting closer.
She stretched and set down the travel bag she took, reveling in the loud pop her back made once the heavy weight was released, reaching down to grab the two Pokeballs in the outer pocket of her bag. She carefully pressed the buttons on the balls, a Luxury ball and a regular Pokeball, from which a familiar Delphox and Vaporeon emerged respectively; both of which had already been told of the plan: Go up through the Canyon, and get to the Altar. They were getting closer to the hardest part of the trek, the parts that require Pokemon assistance no questions asked. She just hoped that nobody would force her into a battle on the way, unsure whether she could complete the journey without them.
Kittsu dug through her backpack before zipping it halfway closed, handing both Ember and Aeries a quick snack, two little tupperwares filled with some Trailmix designed for Pokemon. She patiently waited for her Pokemon to finish eating, peering up at the canyon; there was a tiny speck of a large building jutting out of a mountain, still infinitely far away, but she didn’t miss how far Poni Village now seemed. This was going to be a long day, she just hoped her earbuds had enough battery to supply her music the whole way through.
-
She was right about the day being long, though the route she took along with her pokemon was a bit easier than she had anticipated. For someone with a high-ish pain tolerance, Kittsu was a wimp when it came to general recovery and sore spots, sore spots she quickly earned after just a few walls climbed. It’s amazing how one clumsy foot placement could give you a grand collection of purplish bruises; she learned that pretty early on. That didn’t mean she didn't have a good time, though, watching Aeries snake up walls through small cracks in utter disbelief, Ember reaching down her branch for her trainer to grab onto… it was nice. They felt like a team, even if Aeries mostly watched Kittsu try (and fail without aid) to climb. The only reason it felt as if the hours dragged on was because she didn’t bring enough water. Why has that been a problem for her recently? Arc dammit, she hoped they would have some sort of water along the way, but of course that hope was unrealistic.
It was an instant relief that washed over Kittsu when they exited another cave, only to realize this was their final exit. No more climbing, as long as she didn’t think about the way back down. She stretched and plopped onto the ground with a wide yawn, setting her backpack to the side. Aeries beelined for her lap and curled up in her trainer’s arms, burying her little head into the crook of her elbow. Ember was… on edge. The travel had roughly eroded the electrified anxiety Kittsu had been feeling for [days] once she decided to execute this plan, but the ever-serious Delphox still seemed alert. Kittsu patted the rocky ground beside her incessantly, only stopping when Ember had relented and sat with her company, still swiveling her ears as she poked through her trainer’s backpack searching for more snacks. Kittsu yawned again and was startled by a Sitrus Berry tossed to her, taking a minute to process what was in her hand before taking a bite, grimacing at the texture. Aeries didn’t react to Ember’s offering aside from a small warning growl, to which her trainer recalled her into her Pokeball to rest without interruption.
Kittsu lazily swiveled her head, searching for the final stretch of the journey as she tried to relax, the final path to the Altar of the Sunne. It was hard to miss; a gaping cavern that bore its void-black interior, paint of red and yellow and black was intuitively splayed around the entrance; a clear warning for the dangers within. She just needed to find a way around, something she hoped would be easier than what she was surveying at the moment. Steep cliff sides that only make the ancient entrance even more imposing, with little to no ledges she could see to get up and over, not to mention how she would get down if she somehow did make it up. Kittsu guessed that her best chance would to be retrieving Ember into her pokeball, and tossing the pokeball up as far as she could; then the Delphox could reach down and help her up. Though now, she was a bit too tired to think about how that would actually work, so instead, she opted to close her eyes… just for a little bit.
-
Ember had shaken Kittsu awake after her accidental nap; the Sun that was once hidden by jutting precipices now peeked over the cliff edges, shining light directly into her Delphox’s eyes. She stretched, making sure that she wouldn’t experience any sudden cramps before coming to her feet, double checking to see that Aeries’ Pokeball was still secure in her bag. Ember, on her part, was surveying the path to the dragon’s den opening, using her stick to trace the road they needed to take, the magenta flame left thin trails in the air, though they dissipated quickly. Kittsu took the Delphox’s paw as she approached the cliff face where the towering Vulpine stood, following the barely visible trails with her eyes. It looked like the only path forwards from where they stood was a twisting tree trunk, conveniently grown in a way to act as a path. Kittsu toyed with the thought about what the rangers would do when the tree eventually dies and starts to rot, taking a mental note of the sharp turn the Delphox-Human duo would have to take once they make the decidedly steep jump from the lower tree to the ground.
Though conveniently path shaped, the tree grew gnarled knots in many places, disrupting the flat path easiest to walk on, and the deceptively lush moss that grew on the bark left Kittsu clinging to any jutting bulge she could get her hands on. Ember, on the other hand, had no trouble crossing the organic bridge, and opted to watch Kittsu struggle by herself as she raked claws through her fur, grooming it as she waited for her trainer to join her. It took her a while, but the pink haired human eventually managed to catch up with Ember, the large Delphox lending a paw to make sure she didn’t fall too harshly before the two turned the corner that Kittsu had seen earlier.
Kittsu stared at the dragon trial site, it was far more imposing up close than it was from afar. The streaks of eye catching paint she realized were much, much larger here, splayed on the ground and all around the entrance, along with a fence currently blocking off the entrance. Even further incentive to find a different way around, Kittsu wasn’t exactly a rule breaker. There was a large sign by the entrance, right in front of the gate yet a bit to the left. She could read it now, and the words were a clear message: This is a divine place. If you dare enter you must face the Totem’s trial. Prove your strength, and you may continue. AKA, it was an absolutely idiotic idea to enter, especially since Kittsu’s Pokémon were barely able to handle a Rockruff earlier that morning, and she wasn’t sure the Totem would become enamored with the Poketoys she had stocked up on like the wild Pokemon she had encountered thus far.
…Though, it seemed not everybody in their little party got the memo; Aeries’ pokeball shook violently in Kittsu’s bag. When she put it on the ground to open it, and launched outwards to collide with a wall, releasing the small Vaporeon. Aeries looked around, ignoring Kittsu’s apologies for putting her in her ball for so long, and the little creature’s eyes caught on the sign. She didn’t know if Aeries could read, but she seemed to pause to look over the words, before turning back to her silent trainer and her Delphox watching curiously. The Vaporeon then promptly turned back around, and with a mighty leap, had found footing on the fence, looking back towards the duo on the safe side of the fence. Kittsu called out to her, commanding her to come back and that it was dangerous- that they’d all get in trouble if they crossed the fence, but Aeries’ only reaction was to jump onto the ground of the other side, turning back once more, before bounding into the darkness.
Kittsu stared at where the Vaporeon just stood, appalled at what she had just done. Does she not realize it’s dangerous? Did she just pretend to read the sign? Did she read the sign and enter the cave regardless, with no worry of her own safety? Oh arc, what if she woke up the Totem? Dragons tend to be territorial, what if they hurt Aeries for trespassing- or worse, killed her for the crime of interloping?! She didn’t really know what she was doing when she ran towards the fence, designed to keep people out, and tried to jump over with no avail. She needed to get Aeries out of there, the Backpack she carried carelessly thrown to the side- be damned if it slowed her pace!! She needed to protect her Pokémon, her Pokemon that she knows better than herself! It’s not fair if she gets hurt on a journey that Kittsu dragged her along on. With Pokeballs in hand, she felt Ember lift her up to get her over the fence, Kittsu flopping unceremoniously on the other side with a yelp; Ember followed suit, being able to easily climb the fence that had bested her trainer.
Kittsu sprinted into the cave, letting Ember go in front thanks to her superior senses; her branch was alight in raging orange flames that illuminated the dark crevices that hid on either side of the sun-brightened path. She didn’t miss the scurrying steps she heard, the half-a-second glimpses of reflective yellow eyes that slid away before she could register what stared back at her. Flapping wings, tapping claws, shifting scales… Arceus, if Aeries didn’t thank her for getting her out of this mess—
She was a bit too late in slowing her pace before she tripped on the Vaporeon’s tail, Aeries having stopped dead in her tracks suddenly, sending her trainer sprawling and skidding to a halt on the ground. Oh arc dammit- She tried to lift herself up to grab the Vaporeon, holding her close, submitting to the idea that the Totem wouldn’t kill a human. Aeries let her trainer take her into her arms, but she was… tense. Her gaze was glued to something behind Kittsu, and she didn’t miss Ember’s shocked expression a few feet in front of her. She tried to stand but she stumbled over her feet, only managing to get to her knees before she heard it, the thing that her Pokémon had noticed far earlier than herself. Then, there was the sound she could hear now. The scraping of something hard against the stone ground of the forbidden trial site, scraping that grew closer every passing second. She steeled herself for what she might see as she pivoted, still kneeling on the ground as she carefully put Aeries down, a hand still on her back in case she tried to run, or worse, attack. The ground vibrated beneath the trio, small pebbles bounced at each deafening step shook the very earth, setting every hair on end.
She didn’t know what she was meant to do, the colossal figure that had to be at least 30” tall glared at the trio, the scraping of the plate-scaled that adorned its massive body was deafening, the vibrations having caused her earbuds to fall out of her ears. It… was beautiful as it was terrifying. Its eyes were utterly shadowed by its grand crest, appearing as nothing but shadowed hollows, though she knew that its eyes must have held an undeniable intelligence. She caught herself staring before she shook her senses back into her, and kneeled down in a bow; an apology for trespassing as she waited for its reaction, praying that it would not be too angry at her and her Pokémon. Best case scenario, it would glare at them until they let the way they came. Worst case… she wouldn’t be going home; wouldn’t be able to say goodbye.
She didn’t quite expect it to lean down and sniff her… was this part of the trial? You can only pass if you smell nice? The thought amused her a bit, a grand Totem Pokémon that judges you based on whether you took a shower before the trial, that was pretty funny all things considered. How long was it going to—
—The sudden familiar sound of disproportionately loud scraping hit her ears, starting Kittsu out of her thoughts, her method of distracting herself until the danger passes seemed to have worked. She felt its presence raise high above her, for a second she thought maybe now it would attack, but instead, she felt the ground shudder as the Pokémon began stomping away, its scales scraping together as it went. She stayed there, crouched for a while after it had left, before she raised her head to look at her Pokémon. Ember was watching where it had apparently made its exit, wide eyed with her branch still aflame. Aeries stood there, turning to Kittsu as she noticed her trainer moving, and paused.
Kittsu slowly, shakily got to her feet, Ember helping her get up as support. Aeries watched before continuing on, now at a reasonable pace. What… was that? Kittsu didn’t think she had the brainpower to understand the Totem’s odd choice in who gets to pass, because of course it knew she was alive! It was easier to just… accept it for now, before continuing onwards. Ember’s stick bore a dim magenta flame, and she focused her energy to make it flare dramatically, lighting a great deal of the canyon like it had done before. The dragons that had seemed so threatening before were now out in the open, curiously watching as Kittsu followed the small Vaporeon, colossal Delphox trailing behind. There were Noivern, primarily, though she saw several Noibat, Jangmo-o, and even a couple Scizor that shared the territory. It was surreal. It only took a bit of walking for the exit to become visible, the sunlight pouring in through a triangular opening, silhouetting a small pedestal.
Kittsu was excited to finally leave. Once they investigate the Altar, they could go home! Maybe… maybe even asking Paula to teleport them back to Akala island would be worth it, she would just have to pray that the altar somehow had phone service. The pedestal that had stood there, blackened by the sun and the angle form which they viewed, gave off an important feeling when approached. It held a small, uncut and unpolished, yet gorgeous gemstone with some sort of pattern inside; it reminded Kittsu of the Mega Stones of her home region. Arceus, she couldn’t wait to get home. Either way it wasn’t meant for her, it was a reward for those recognized by the Totem. She wasn’t recognized just… dismissed. It really didn’t hurt nearly as much as people may believe. Kittsu hoped that the final path to the Altar of the Sunne would just be a straight path, long, but easy; she was less than thrilled at the sight of a couple-thousand step staircase that jutted through the clouds.
“Guys is the sun really worth it?”
Neither of her traveling partners were particularly impressed at their trainer’s half joke; Ember nodded solemnly, playing along. Aeries simply took the first few steps, looking back at the pair she’s already left behind, before blinding up the steps on her lonesome; a path straight to the clouds and above. It was daunting, to say the least, but it was far too late to turn back now.
-
Reaching the clouds, in the nicest terms possible, was as if being sent to the Distortion realm. Kittsu’s feet already hurt from the hike that had taken the entire day already, the sun nearly set in the sky. She was thirsty and she smelled bad and she desperately needed a shower and was overall miserable. She pretended to hope that entering the cloud would simply “cure her thirstiness” as she put it, but it was truly a fool’s wish. She… couldn’t see how far the staircase went, it being covered in clouds; it could be a 5 mile climb for all she knew, but she was already so close. It was jarring, being able to see, and eventually touch the cloud; odd formations of water that float above the land, forever out of reach. Well, they weren’t out of reach now, as the shroud that covered the staircase now rested just a few steps ahead. Kittsu shared a look with Ember as Aeries’ pace refused to slow; the human wanted to sit down and take a break, though the Delphox knew that it’ll just get worse if they thought about it.
There was no turning back now. Might as well get it over with.
-
Ember didn’t sound good. Kittsu had taken the Delphox’s paw, trying to keep an eye out for the missing stairs that had pockmarked the lower staircase they had left from. Maybe it was the moisture, maybe it was the altitude, but either way, Ember was panting, her pace dramatically slowed as she nearly toppled and tripped over the steps. Her breaths were shallow and quick, and she didn’t seem to hear Kittsu when she asked what was wrong. Arc, she had left her backpack by the dragon trial, so she didn’t have any of her healing items on her. Her phone didn’t work up there, either, so she couldn’t even begin to figure out what the problem may have been— She took the Luxury ball out of her pocket and retrieved Ember, seeing no other choice but to put her in stasis- at least for now. It was a temporary solution of course, Ember needed a Pokémon center, and Kittsu severely doubted that any sane person would build one on top of this hell Altar, much less work there. She needed to find Aeries, then they could leave. Find Ember help. Everyone would be okay. They have to be.
Kittsu cursed the fact she didn’t have a good pokeball holder like Sprite, that thing was fancy, and far easier to use than whatever she had going on. She tucked the ball into her pocket, suddenly on edge, and whispered an apology; a promise that they’d find help soon. She tried to look down, but the sight made her dizzy. She couldn’t see a foot in front of her, and she certainly didn’t want to fall down if simply looking that way nearly made her topple.
It seemed her only option was to go up once again. Find Aeries. Get help. Go home.
-
Kittsu was out of it by the time she had finally exited the wall of clouds. Everything felt off kilter, as if even thinking too hard could send her crashing down the stone steps. She guessed it was partly due to the altitude, or maybe her thirst that the cloud of course didn’t actually fix; she found her mind wandering as she climbed the seemingly infinite staircase. Thoughts about… Combee dancing in raves with Vespiquen. And whether Shinx could purr. And if a wild Eevee has ever done a backflip. Regular Kittsu thoughts but amplified by 5, she realized. She didn’t even register the fatigue she knew she had to be experiencing, it was as if her mind was as lost in the cloud as she was… not an unpleasant experience all things considered.
And was suddenly dragged out of her thoughts, the dizzying sensation leaving as she exited the cloud. Aeries stood there, waiting for her, laying down a couple steps ahead. Kittsu paused to look at her, shaking her head in an attempt to get her thoughts back on track. Aeries took to her feet as she spotted Kittsu, and continued climbing at a bit of a slower pace, matching her trainer’s footfalls.
She wanted to call to Aeries, to tell her they were going back down the stairs to a Pokémon Center, to say she’d had enough and they need to go home. She couldn’t find her voice, the thought of speaking felt as if it choked her. The only thing she could readily do was follow the Vaporeon.
The only thing she could do was ascend to the building she could now see above.
-
They were nearly halfway up the final stretch when Aeries had collapsed, having shown little signs of illness prior. Kittsu dropped to her knees, trying to ask voiceless questions of her condition, how she felt, but there could be no responses given to questions never asked. She was frustrated at the fact that she couldn’t think about what to do- it felt as if her thoughts of leaving now were drowned out by the sun itself. It was far too hot.
Kittsu pulled out Aeries’ pokeball and enlisted the same treatment as she had done to Ember, retrieve her; let her rest. Stasis will protect them until she- until she could leave. She held the Pokeball close to her chest, noticing how the paint scraped off by her nail like hot butter. Something was wrong, but she couldn’t focus on pinpointing what it was.
She looked above. The structure stood tall and proud, waiting for her to arrive.
The only thing she could do was climb.
-
Kittsu didn’t know what she expected at the end of this journey she’s taken.
She felt the trance she seemed to be in abruptly end as the moon began peeking over the now visible horizon, the overwhelming stench of iron and sound of booming, colorful explosions far below shocked her mind back into sense. What was she doing here—? Her Pokémon- they’re hurt and she did nothing- she needed to leave- She spun to face the staircase, now a clear shot back down- but the sight caused bile to rise in her throat from the moment she turned.
…Oh Arceus…
-
Kittsu didn’t know what she was expecting.
-
But she knew it wasn’t this.

screw it, Michael Afton Pokémon team (also I know this is 5 mon, not 6 shhhhhh)
Mimikyu - the lore behind Mimikyu is that he dresses up as Pikachu to get some love, and I feel that even though that doesn't directly parallel Michael, he'd probs see this poor rag in an alleyway on one of his shifts, feel bad for it, and catch it, and its probs his Poke-Helpi lol, (Mimikyu probs would give him traumatic flashbacks to when he was used as a meat suit, but he probs still cares for him coz like he's seen the horrors so nothing can really phase him atp lmao 😭 )
Obstagoon- Michael was a kid with a rock and roll phase who became a robo bear with a rock and roll theme lmao, like?!?!?? Also, okay, even though Its not a bear, its still a mammal of big stature with shoulder pauldrons and rock inspired, it's also from Galar, the region based on England, It's so perfect for him like !?!?
Braixen - Michael in FNAF has been associated with foxes in the past due to the foxy bro sprite, and like, Braixen gives off cool teen energy yk? like Michael was a girlfailure /pos but liiiike, yk, I was debating Delphox, but that felt too much like a grown pokemon yk??? Also, Braixen is a fire type!!! and Michael is known for his amazing feats of arson!! (we stan)
Sinistea - Okay, so originally I was going to give Polteagiest because haha British and purple, but I feel like Sinistea is more Michael, and Polteagiest is more William? Maybe his Polteageist just had a Sinistea one day, and William just gave it to Michael lol
(Ace Pokemon!!) Blood Moon Ursaluna - Originally, the teddyursa was Evan's, a gift from William, after he died, teddyursa didn't have a trainer, right, So then, Michael keeps it in his guilt and grief, So then, years later it becomes an ursurang, and probably stays an ursarang during pre-sister location. After sister location, is when Michael does his whole thing of going into the fnaf locations as night guard, and the remnant that was around him during all of that, allowed for ursarang to evolve into blood moon ursaluna (yipee!!!) silly fun additional thing: after the spirit of cc haunts poke-fredbear and stuff, he sees that Michael evolved his teddyursa fully and stops, mid Jumpscare to have a full on argument with him as to why ursaluna was cuter as a teddyursa (Also BMU looks a bit like golden Freddy with the missing eye, and it literally is the freddy fazbear pokemon lmao)
Runners up:
Gothitelle
Absol
Gengar
Spiritomb
Thievul
Marshadow
(more or less because they are just kinda Michael adjacent? rather than fitting symbolically or character wise, yk?)

Onto gen 6, relevant to ZA I guess
Tumblr media
The Kalos Starters at first glance is peak marketing for the time. Big heads, little bodies, a cuddly little little guy, a cute fox, and a froggo. Certainly doing what they were designed to do by appealing to everyone. I like the colors used in each especially.
As they evolve, though, they lose a lot of the initial charm they had imo. It's bad enough, too, that they got outshined in their own game by the gen 1 megas, but then suddenly it happens again with gen 3 megas in the oras remake. Then, it's clear who is the favorite, with the other two being left squarely in the dark while one gets the spotlight. Never did like that. To knock it down another peg, they also start the aggregious humanoid starter trend that just... God, I dislike that so much. Like the kalos ones are fine but we've had enough.
Anyway, the uniting theme is that they're rpg classes: a knight, a mage, and a rogue. Classic stuff.
As far as starters go, they're okay. Not the best, but okay is fine. A collective 7/10 feels appropriate
More under here
Tumblr media
Chespin was probably the first gen 6 pokemon I really latched onto, as it is a really cute little guy with a great design and great color scheme. It also happens to be the first non reptilian grass starter (I'm sorry, Bulbasaur is a frog but it is a reptilian one), which I think was overdue at the time. I do think, however, it is the best designed of its line. Like Totodile, it doesn't need to evolve to improve itself design wise, but it doesn't help that what comes after is just objectively inferior. 9/10, that's a friend
Tumblr media
Quilladin/10. Which is like... a 5? 4.5? Lol. It's not my favorite, but it isn't objectively offensive either. It's just Chespin with inflation and a schnozz. Awkward teenage middle stage at its most... quilladin, I reckon.
Tumblr media
Now Chesnaught is a pretty cool design, and I think a lot of issues I have with it are help by its shiny colors matching closer to its previous evos. As it is, the colors are too bright, the legs too human, and there's no ears. Otherwise, I think it's okay. It's a grass starter, they hardly miss. 7/10 feels okay, could be better.
The Chespin line is one that I think could have been better, but it is fine for what it is. A mega could fix it or fuck it, imo. 7/10, I have enough of them
Tumblr media
Fennekin is certainly a Pokemon I guess. I know people flocked to it because cute little fox, but the head and nose just don't work for me. It's a little better in 3d, but yeah. Nice colors, at the least. 6/10 for me, I guess it's a friend.
Tumblr media
I'm not a furry. That's the end of that sentence. Anyway, Braixen is pretty much the best of it's line, but certainly betrayed a lot of people's expectations by not staying on all fours. Hey, it's not fire/fighting, though! Redemption! The colors used are nice, and I do think the design is cute as well, but this Pokemon is a bit too humanoid for my liking. But, still, I like it as it is. 8/10
Tumblr media
Oy. Oy oy oy. Delphox ruined it. Way too humanoid, the face is too... small? In comparison to it's excessive ear hair, anyway. The colors are fine, nothing wrong with that. What is wrong is that I think we as an audience would have been happier with a four legged fox- blah blah ninetales I don't care, by that logic we already have a bipedal, tool using, psychic fox with the Alakazam line (yes, it is a fox). The psychic typing is a nice touch at the least. Yeah, though, otherwise it's 4/10. Not a fan. One is enough for me. I don't even think a mega could fix it.
The Fennekin line is one that at least saved us from fire/fighting types, but at the same time it's just another wasted opportunity to do something fun rather than... ugly lol. It says something when both the anime and Pokken prefer Braixen rather than Delphox. A 5/10 line that sits pretty much at second to last place for me.
Tumblr media
This is a friend, but kind of the weird friend, in a good way though. It's simple and to the point, and very blue. Froakie is an 8/10
Tumblr media
Yes I did choose this Pic because it's funny to look at. Frogadier is pretty much a better Froakie, nice blues, nice shapes, and it's tree frog influences are easily noticeable and noted. I think it does some things better than Greninja, such as the darker blues with lighter blues and the bubble Scarf. Yeah, I like it. 8/10
Tumblr media
For some reason, Google is giving me the worst resolutions for Greninja. I promise I won't use that against it.
Greninja is a design that depends on the medium and art viewed in- I'm personally partial towards the Smash Bros render. He's the Charizard of his own gen, only out zarded by the Zard himself. The concept is neat, the colors used are decent, and it's particularly good in battle- unfairly so compared to Chesnaught and Delphox imo, but that's a recurring theme going forward. There is a reason it was at one point the most popular pokemon in the world, anyway, according to an actual poll you can Google.
Now it isn't perfect. I've said it in Frogadier's review, but it would work so much better with its color scheme and with a bubble scarf instead of its tongue. I know it's supposed to be cool, but that's still its tongue. I can't ignore that no matter how much I try. I also don't really like what they're doing with its eyes- why are they cones? It's definitely a meat pokemon, but I feel like it is vastly overhyped. Still, I will give it an 8 simply because other than Hisuian Samurott, this is the last good water starter imo.
Collectively speaking, the Froakie line is a fine water starter line, and Protean is definitely a great hidden ability to have. I think it was worth hyping up at the time, but I do its unfair just how much better it got treated. On a design standpoint, I do like them all, but Greninja has a weird disconnect from the other two- like a PS4 next to a GameCube and Wii. Still, A firm 8/10 line.
Next up will be the Mega starters and Ash Greninja
