First book finished for 2022, and what a doozy! I've always wanted to read this one but never got around to it, and, well, it was kind of disappointing! While the unique perspective on familiar characters and the excellent tension between characters kept me invested, I found the writing to be more often than not stale and repetitive. A few really captivating prose at moments, but everything in between was almost tedious. ⁣ My human mom loves art, so she keeps adding works by artists to my shop on Etsy.🖼 While I am a self-proclaimed critic of art, highly regarded in my own mind, I do admit that my knowledge can be expanded slightly.🎨 To that end, I figure I should study and critique some of the works she's been adding to our magnets and postcards.⁣ ⁣ I have here, a work by some guy named WaterCloset, or OutHouse or something. It's called The Lady of Shallot, which I think is a small onion.🧅 It's a scene from a poem by the son of a Lord called Tennis 🎾.⁣ ⁣ In the poem, this lady is under a curse. She cannot look directly at the world outside of her tower, but must view it only through a mirror and weave a tapestry endlessly of what she sees🪞.⁣ ⁣ This got old fast, and one day when she saw Sir Lancelot in her mirror, riding by on his way to Camelot, she couldn't resist going to the window and looking out.⁣ ⁣ After which she no longer cared about the consequences. Out into the world she went. It was probably like when people couldn't take Covid lockdowns any longer 😱. ⁣ ⁣ She escaped to a boat and tried to sail to Camelot. But the curse was upon her, and in the pictures you can see that two of her three candles are already extinguished.🕯 Before she arrived, the third candle died and she along with it.⁣ ⁣ Oh wait, here's the information on it. It's called "The Lady of Shalott" by John William Waterhouse, from a poem by Alfred Lord Tennyson. Well I was pretty close.⁣ ⁣ Please visit my store by clicking on the link in my bio.
