M'dears, we have to accept the fact that Phoenix and Miles don't like each other and shouldn't be paired togheter unless you want to depict some toxic yaoi out of it and no, Maya shouldn't bear the burden of being the mediator between the two, that's not fair for her!

NaruMistuMayo might make more sense since Phoenix does care for Miles, but the other way around, not so much. Like Nick had to almost die for Edgeworth to care, if he were told that he was just critical but taken care of in a hospital then he wasn't going to bother...

You know I’m not typically a fan of these three as a poly couple cause it’s usually played as a sexual thing or something and I’m a hardcore WrightWorth shipper, but I LOVE the ace/aro dynamic these three have and I think it’s just beautiful! I’d love to see a mini comic about Miles learning he’ll be a godfather, and starts really bonding with Maya, like being there when she’s pregnant and Phoenix is just torn between “this is so cute” and “what is my life now”.

As for this scenario, that sounds so cute and incredibly fun to think about--maybe it could be another au! However, the events of the au's story, Edgeworth took a little bit to be involved with the family directly--but he watched Phoenix and Maya from afar ever since they took the plunge into having children together.

That being said, Edgeworth and Maya did begin to bond as coparents after Mia was born. Edgeworth already started visiting Phoenix somewhat regularly to help take care of Gregory, because Trucy had taken her show on the road and he noticed Phoenix was having a tough time being on his own and with a toddler. Maya doesn't live with Phoenix but she did stay with him for a couple months during her maternity leave when Mia was born. Edgeworth noticed that they were exhausted from taking care of the new baby along with Gregory, so he decided to spend all his time outside of his job to help out during Maya's stay--mostly by keeping Gregory occupied so Phoenix and Maya could focus on the new baby...

I think it's safe to say Phoenix had those "this is so cute" and "what is my life now?" thoughts!

So I got two questions: 1. are the children conceived via a doctor giving Maya either Miles' or Phoenix's *ahem* DNA? and 2. How does custody work when a child is born, do any girls just stay with Maya and any boys stay with Phoenix and Miles? or does the daughter need to have spiritual power? Like I know Maya wouldn't be that shallow but I'm curious about how they set these parts of the parenting up?

That was originally the plan between Phoenix and Maya (all three kids are biologically theirs) but they found it too expensive to be worth the trouble, and since they were fully emotionally invested in starting a family together, they decided to try it the "free" way. That caused some friction between them and when Edgeworth caught wind of it, he recommended at-home insemination kits after berating them for not exploring their options more. I made a comic about this a while back for another ask, and while some minor details have changed, the general event is mostly the same. (As a side note, it seems that at-home insemination kits have become more common since I started thinking about the au, and the FDA has even approved of one kit in the US! This is really cool to see and huge for people who want to start families via alternative means!)

Maya--and by extension, Phoenix--was under the impression that women of the Fey Clan were only capable of conceiving girls, so Phoenix taking custody of a child wasn't even a thought when they took the plunge, let alone Edgeworth. Gregory came as a surprise, and when Phoenix and Maya both experienced antiqued attitudes toward boys in Kurain Village first hand, Phoenix, with Edgeworth's encouragement, told Maya that if it had to come to it, he would take in their son. Maya wanted to make it work, and tried to make it work after he was born, but the attitudes wouldn't be so quick to modernize. They also realized that opportunities for a child that couldn't channel in a rural, mountain village were small. She and Phoenix decided it was for the best if Gregory was raised in the city with Phoenix. When they tried for the second time, Phoenix promised that he would do the same if their second child was another a boy. Since that pregnancy resulted in Mia, they didn't have to worry about that. In the au, girls don't have their spiritual powers tested until their fourth birthday, and Maya wanted to have another baby when Mia was still three. This was over a year after Edgeworth adopted Gregory and started living with Phoenix, so the concern if Maya's third child would be a boy was present. Phoenix was especially worried since Edgeworth was in the picture and wasn't sure if he would be willing to help him raise another child. However, like how Phoenix assured Maya, Edgeworth assured Phoenix that he would coparent another boy without question. But then Melusina was born, and she displayed spiritual power even before she was tested, so the possibility of what to do with a girl with no spiritual powers wasn't brought up. However, if Mia or Mel didn't have spiritual powers, like Dahlia and Iris before them, whether or not they would be raised in the village would be a question, since there isn't much in the way of opportunities in a rural village. Maya would certainly try, though!

Are Phoenix, Miles, Maya, I guess the whole family, very involved with their kids’ school activities and extracurriculars? I see Phoenix as the really really over enthusiastic parent at their 6y/o’s sport game lol

They're all involved and enthusiastic in their own ways. Maya would be excited from day one of finding out there's something going on, marking her calendar, making it a point to schedule the day off to travel to the city if she needs to in Gregory's case, and throw her metaphorical pom-poms the hardest and cheer the loudest.

Edgeworth would be more reserved on the outside, but he also will clear his schedule and have it on his mind through to the big game/play/what have you. He would probably be the one recording footage and taking pictures, too. He might even be the one pushing for the extracurriculars in the first place.

Phoenix would be somewhat aloof about it--not that he means to. But his partners/kids probably need to remind him of the more important events, but once he's there on the bleachers or in the audience, he'll be cheering or clapping just as much as Maya.

This is something that happens in the fanfiction I'm still finishing up writing, so I would prefer not to spoil completely! But I can tease a bit from it!

(The story is written from Phoenix's perspective.)

I clenched my jaw. “Well…” I watched Edgeworth return to his tea table by the window. “Maya and I are still at a loss about what to name him.” My stomach churned. Sweat began to drip down my face. Edgeworth was right. It did feel like I was having a bad day in court. I felt Maya pat my shoulder. I turned to her, and she had a smile that said, “You can do it, Nick!” I smiled back and took a deep breath. “If it’s alright with you, Maya and I were thinking about naming our son ‘Gregory,’ after your father.”  Out of the corner of my eye, I saw something shiny fall to the floor.   CLASH.

Would Edgeworth ever play the third wheel at one of Nick and Maya's dates?

If we’re talking mitsunarumayo then yes! Edgeworth is there for Phoenix (and kind of Maya a she does care about her but not as much as Phoenix). They kind of put up with each other and like to have friendly competition about who’s the “better partner” for Phoenix teehee

But if we’re just talking strictly narumayo… I’m gonna say maybe! I can see Phoenix and Maya running into Edgeworth at like a restaurant and they just completely invite themselves over and sit with him to catch up. They get some food themselves, get kind of lovey dovey and giggly, and Edgeworth is just like “What the hell, you two… making me a third wheel on my own lunch?”

Then as quickly as they appeared they’d dip and poor Edgeworth is just wondering what the heck happened.

But in actuality, he wouldn’t actually seek out to be a third wheel. It would just happened by accident/pure coincidence. :)
