Tar pit party
He had no control when it came to the existence of his role and space, as much as he claimed to. The rift had him sitting in there for the longest time, waiting and watching the vast nothingness when the Entity in the same space as him slept - leaving him no room for insight...
Until he was booted out, in softer terms to go seek and fix his Host issue.
Lios was given that minor chance, and who knew how long until he’d get another - something must’ve come up finally but not even he knew what to expect. When came to surface... It felt no different than a weird back door than when he’d usually use his aforementioned book. Unnatural. The suffocating weight for someone like him wasn’t as pleasant, truly like he was enveloped in both tar and quick sand, if not dense water when he was manifesting his existence outside the rift - although not knowing where he’d end up. Lios would just need to deal with it.
Obscured, black doused hands clawed into the soil, reefing up his weight like a zombie and shredding greenery that might’ve been present while the oozing silhouette slowly cleared away when he’d risen. Evaporating and wisping away like a visible black miasma until is vanished altogether by droplets and all, leaving his lanky frame and cloak entirely clear of any traces.
His mask twisted into flat eyes and a vague frown when he realized where he was. Boots were already meshing into the water of the soaked space of his weight, urging him to monkey dance a few feet off swamp bank and stomp around until he found solid footing.
“Is there something here?” His voice faintly made itself known while putting his head on a swivel, uncertain of his surroundings if life was present.

HOhohoo
The silence was something she was easily used to when it came to him. Only patience was what she had to offer in contrast to it, yet never expecting him to always answer. Seeing how he wasn’t obligated. Didn’t mean she gave up easy though, either despite the awkward flow of air when it got to that point... All Josiah did was watch, respecting his work space, although with things to look at. Her eyes were trained on him alone, tilting at the head when his attention hit it’s peak. Gaze following in the short minute until the weight filled her arms, finally reacting with a small heave-huff - thankfully no caving when Josiah took a look at the book itself, mind the weight.
“Heavier than the books I used to work with... I don’t recognize it...” She uttered quietly, fingers scooping the cover out of the way. Proof to why she didn’t was painfully obvious as soon as the contents were revealed, making Josiah squint a bit at the unknown language. While the sketches and works fell to some similarities was all that she had. But she was listening to his statement while attention remained on the book for a small moment, half cringing at herself.
“Fair point. Hope it was some help at least then...” She didn’t push. Only listen, it sounded like it was more than important. Especially when the topic curved in a direction she wasn’t expecting. Josiah was fixed on the ever lack changing expression he bore when his depth question only sunk into some familiar waters, yet she knew necromancy was different in a way. Just flesh.
“The conscious.” Josiah hardly hesitated to answer, adjusting her comfort when hoisting the book onto her forearm better and her freehand index knuckle pressed to her lips. “To me, anyways... A body is one thing. But to me, it’s what remains of the conscious, as far as DNA is as well if you want to count it in as one. You can replace as many pieces as you want, with what you want, it doesn’t change the thing that makes you, you. That’s your consciousness. Humanity sits there with who you are. It’s got nothing to do with your body. Disagree if you’d like or add, I’m all ears. If you disagree, I’d love to hear a different angle.” Regardless, a small smile became evident.

She’d have dealt with this little problem on her own terms, but Ezme had no need to do it that way either. He was her partner after all, otherwise she’d have done exactly that and went on her way to do it alone. The one time she had to legit go outside though, the doppelganger wasn’t too sure if her little entity buddy could get through Shiro’s realm - but if she could feel the presence in her sleep... Caution was the best interest. By the looks of it, she was on route with him to an open park space, away from the choice interest and more towards the open grass space nearest to the greenery. Ezme was quiet for the most part, sure she could see things others couldn’t, but she’d never been too close, or bothered making an effort to seek out the untouched rift splits ever. Mostly due to him alone, hell could she know - they could be all around them. Yet the otherworldly sensitivity was here, that it lead them, although it might’ve come off strange for two people to take their walks to the park in the hour now. It was prime time, despite anytime being potential for Ezme too - the entity as well. He wasn’t too patient.
The air seemed to only become a little denser the further they closed in mid point of the grassy space - for her that it was at least. The doppelganger had no doubts in Shiro though, though nevertheless, she wanted to keep him safe too. “I can’t see it, but it’s here... Unless I’m feeling something else.” Ezme added quietly, though enough for between the two of them. However, she was baiting herself openly by just being there - she started rummaging around in her pockets now in search for something as soon as she stopped.

@mnemosys liked for a starter~!
Misha was nervous, she knew she was and it was in that awful, quiet way that made it hard to choke down food. Worst of all, she knew she didn’t have a reason to be. Shiro wasn’t like any of the kids she had grown up with. Mischievous, competitive and a little odd? Definitely. Mean? Never. At worst he wouldn’t want to go with her, but he wouldn’t make fun of her either. Maybe tease her if he found something to poke at her about, but only in the same ways she liked to poke him right back. And she knew all of that, but it didn’t stop her from overthinking anyway. By lunch she’d nearly worn away at one edge of the envelope. At said lunch, having lured him out with the promise of food, she fished it out of her bag and shoved it across the table towards him before she could completely lose her nerve.
“Open it.” She mumbled around a bite of her food. A familiar flush was creeping it’s way to her ears though she looked like she was trying to stifle it by any means--that was a very keen look she was giving her glass of water. If he did open the envelope, he’d find a little red ticket stub allowing entrance to a production of Into the Woods and--ah there she went, trying her best to drown herself on land.

“How about … Shi? Or … Roro? Ooh, yes, I think I really like that last one, it’s rather adorable sounding.~” And a momentary pause.
“Also. Why does that actually sound a bit familiar …?” After a few moments of pondering, it then clicks. Sorta.

Melpomene looked over to her Master, looking a bit relieved at his reply. Oh, sure, she would do that! But it was much better than a violent end to proving herself trustworthy! She just… really didn’t want to reveal her true name, really.
“Oh, not all of them, Master. I doubt anyone has all their marbles. But I’m only missing five or six, I’d say?” Melpomene did hope that was hopeful! It sounded hopeful to her, but maybe that was wrong.
“No matter my amount of marbles, though, I am here for you, Master. My voice and my hands are here for your favor.” And they won’t explode! They are helpful, unexploding hands!
Unlike Mephistopheles.
“Still, I do want to make sure we can trust each other. There’s not many ways to ensure someone’s comfort when they don’t trust you, you know?” A soft smile, and Melpomene covered the distance with an extended hand.
“Besides the no true name thing, I assure you I can be trusted, Master.”

What was this? Another Foreiger? No, not quite... Similar, but not quite. Avenger stood outside Chaldea, watching the newcomer approaching warily. He’d sought a simple walk in the snow, but now it seemed he had to contend with... Whatever this was.

Donut ronk
She put a hand to her chin with his conclusion, rubbing it - even with his words to clear the air, Josiah wasn’t too troubled by the reality, nor disappointed. More so appreciating the hard work of his blessed item he went out of his way for her.
“Then I likely will soon, maybe it’s already started to falter then,” as vague as it might’ve sounded at first, the staining from her rubbing the eye was left black beneath it’s rim and obvious to a degree, standing out from the deprivation rings and likely things started to leak as it went, “still, thank you for it.” Josiah wasn’t upset, she just didn’t wish for it to make maintenance again. In the end, she was ready to make do once more.
As soon as he made his suggestion, it made her head tilt until she eyed his selected pocket until he gone ahead and pulled out the strange stone. There was only silence to follow, Josiah didn’t get any kind of wrong impression and took it once it was offered - rolling it in her palm, to the tips of exposed digits until being able to pinch it between them while he explained. As someone who had alchemical knowledge with certain utility... It didn’t ring a bell as she looked at the hole. “Adder Stone? Like the snake? If it works, what is it suppose to be?” A curious tone peered through her observation.

Besides the Christmas tree and a couple of gingerbread houses, Shiro had something else in store for them. He waited for them to get seated at the table and tear into their sweets before he crept up behind them and held a mistletoe branch between the two of them.
"Ah. I am thus obligated to follow the rules of Christmas," he stated. Ready or not, he caught Ezme's jaw between his thumb and ring finger and held it in place as he leaned in to steal a soft, lengthy kiss from her lips. Next, he did the same to Varro minus the support of his hand, more or less guessing where his mouth was. In the midst of it, he dropped the mistletoe on the table since he no longer needed it as an excuse. He parted from his lips with a gentle mwah sound and then got back up to his feet, leaving them to their gingerbread endeavors.
"You're too tall to catch off-guard. I wasn't going to use a stool," he said, patting their backs in sync. Before they knew it, he was already gone.
[get sneak smooched and dipped]
The doppelganger was more than ready to jump the sweets, albeit Varro was the more slower one on the matter but as much alert as she was when Shiro made his move. Quickly distracted by the mistletoe, while Ezme was taking the brunt of it full force that words were squished right out of her lips when he caught her jaw. Knitted brows may had looked like confusion but that was far from it, more on a line of; 'oh you've got me', but it was pleasant all the same when she met the softness of his lips, be it Shiro was faster than her. She'd not get much time to get into it though when he made for his part, Ezme practically leaning like a mere moments hypnotization through it until she flopped forward on the counter with partial grabby hands at him since he was too quick to move for her to remotely have made a grab.
"Ended too fast..." She muttered, but no traces of disappointment at all - would she really need sweets now?
Varro on the other hand, luckily for Shiro he needed not to worry about missing his mark since the entity had taken from his habit of hidden features, if at first his lips were met with tight ridge ones. No doubt it still surprised him, but they slacked with ease not long after with a small grunt. But his vice let him at least push back against his lips when he had the window still, be it Shiro had the full reigns on the shared kiss. When he parted though, Varro may as well looked as visibly dazed as someone like him could, but that's because he synced up to the doppelgangers well being before he was almost trying to mimic the sound Shiro made as if it were new to him. "Mm... ma-h--? muah... mwah, mhah-" The patting at his back interrupted him and made the doppelganger perk up. Varro stuck his tongue out partially as if all he were able to lap was the left over taste of his lips, but he wasn't able to get a word in before he vanished - neither of them did.
"Slick... we'll get him back, don't worry." She muttered, before palming her hand over the mistletoe.

❝ .. !! I.. I’m s-so sorry! ❞ Anxious is the pitch of her fevered apology, crouching hurriedly to gather what she had so carelessly knocked from the other’s arms in her efforts to escape the intimidating pair of men tailing her two blocks behind. She’d run so quickly ‘round the corner that she’d collided nigh violently with another person! ❝ P-please, let.. let me help.. ❞

@mnemosys asked: Maybe giving her another patch of "just moss" would have been a bit of a stretch. That's why he had to come up with something even more baffling. Without offering an explanation, he gave her an envelope. Inside wasn't a note or anything of the sort, but a marigold pendant that looked strikingly similar to his eye, made from a material as glossy as glass, but not quite as fragile. She could swear it moved when she wasn't looking directly at it. "Happy discount chocolate day."
Misha might not have known what was in the envelope but that didn't stop her excitement at the idea of what it could be. A truly herculean sense of self-control prevented her from shaking around the gift to try and see if she could discern the contents. Her first thought was that Shiro had gotten his hands on some tickets so they could see another play or musical. It felt light enough to be possible. Waffling momentarily between opening it immediately or not, she bit the bullet and tore it open.
The moment the pendant slid into her palm, she was transfixed. She gazed at its glossy surface, the fingers of her free hand rising unbidden to rest just beneath one of her own eyes. Her mouth worked, a small sound that wasn't quite coherent escaping before she pressed her lips into a wobbling line. The red that had been dutifully crawling up her neck took its rightful place on her face and, with a furious shake of the head, she charged, throwing her arms around her friend and hugging him with all her might.
"Thank you." She whispered fiercely. "I love it. I'll take good care of it, promise."
It would remind her of him even when she left this world behind.
