Hi I’m looking for a fic/drabble(maybe?) that I think I saw on tumblr. They both work at starcourt and Steve masks Eddie out on a date, Eddie assumes he’s asking as a joke so he can stand him up but plays along.

Later he feels weird about the whole thing and goes on a drive, he then sees Steve outside where they were supposed to go on their date looking sad. I think he then decides to on the date and later just tell Steve it wasn’t gonna work out. I don’t remember what happened after that.

What counts as a popular fic?

Popularity is hard to determine with how many pockets of fandom there are. This is why we're using the metrics to gauge the cut off since people are discovering fics for the first time everyday! What may be the quintessential, most popular fic to you could be entirely new to a new fan or someone in another bubble of the Steddie fandom!

Are there any fics you won't take as recs?

No! All fics should be celebrated and it's easy to miss so many amazing creators and stories. Please refrain from anything that is on the first few pages of the ship tag when filtered by hits, kudos, comments, and/or bookmarks, since those are technically the most popular by numbers. As far as content, as long as the fic is properly tagged, it's okay to recommend!

How should we submit our recs?

There are two ways to submit: through the ask box or the submission tab. Asks: If you chose the ask box, just send the title and author (and if you're able the link, but sometimes tumblr won't let you) and I'll add the template to your response with the rating, tags, and summary! Submissions: In the guidelines, there's a template to copy and paste into your submission. Fill it out, add the links, and then choose the tags that best fit the fic you're recommending!

Can I submit multiple stories in one ask?

If you're rec'ing more than two, please do them separately! In order to give each fic the recognition it deserves, it's best if they're getting a post to itself so they stand out. Two is fine for a post, but anything more than that, please split it up!

Hogwarts Legacy and Mods

Getting back into Hogwarts Legacy again, and they added a supported nodding system. I love it when companies allow communities to play God with their games, but I'm deeply disappointed by the mods in general. I have a short list of grievances, but I want to go over some of the things I like first to confirm that this isn't all bad.

The Good

In no particular order, really.

1. Lots of attention for the npcs

The companion mod, the comfortable outfits for NPCs mods, emoting with any NPC and the improved schedules for the NPC AI feels like the community fleshing out the characters more- and makes the game itself feel more alive. It really makes you wonder what this could have been if it had been a base-game feature, with official voice lines and possibly predetermined events depending on location and companion.

2. Cute outfits

Whether it's Victorian garbs or more modern robes, the fashion of the game only expands with mods. I've always loved dress-up games regardless of the actual context, and the dedication and love put into each modded outfit really makes you feel like the game itself is better loved- because you know for certain that at least one individual *really* wanted this in the game.

3. Spell changes and additions

The HP community adding to the already expansive list of spells just to really make the magic of the world feel, well, magical seems so familial to me. The original series, as much as I hate the big JoKe Rowling, had a powerful sense and theme of family- from the mistreatment from the Dudley's to the welcoming love of the Weasleys to the carefully fostered, found family in all of Potter's peers. Everyone is learning from everyone in Hogwarts, students are researching spells they're not supposed to or haven't been taught yet, and so it's all the more immersive that unexpected and unofficial spells would appear in the MC's repertoire.

The Bad

In order of the least offensive to worst thing I've ever seen.

1. Teenage Supermodels

Intensely mature makeup and nails, custom heads with zero face fat, "fixed" postures and "fixed" complexions that make your custom MC look more like something out of a magazine cover rather than a 15 year old. I completely understand wanting your characters to look "pretty", but is it really this necessary? Are teenagers not already insecure enough? It feels so alienating and jarring every time I see a screenshot from a HL player standing next to their favorite NPC and their character looks like some freakish, "yassified" alien creature compared to the completely fine and normal NPC. For Merlin's sake, they're 15, not 25.

2. AI in thumnails

... Come on, dude. Really? You went to all that work to make the mod yourself, and you can't think of any good way to advertise it in the thumbnail other than AI? You couldn't even get a good in-game picture? All it takes is a frame and a text for some people, but you couldn't even do that?

3. Oops! All Sebastian

As much as I love people giving attention to NPCs, it's clear that the entire community has a favorite. Sebastian has the most mods of him out of any NPC, which is absolutely ridiculous given that most other incredibly engaging and story-relevant NPCs don't even have their own mods and are instead all clumped together in the occasional catch-all NPC mod. Amit and Ominis both have about 5 stand-alone mods each, Poppy only has 2 to her name, and the other NPCs are completely omitted when Sebastian has a whopping 37 mods exclusively playing dress-up with him. It's maddening.

4. Oops! All white people

Aside from the one (1) Korean custom head and a few, rare heads with ambiguous features from darker-skinned people, the entire custom face and hair modding market is dominated by European and generically white cosmetics. Even the advertisements for clothing are borderline exclusively using white models, unless it's specifically a mod for an outfit on a darker-skinned NPC. Yes, I understand that this is Scotland, but if the original game can have more diversity with Natty, Amit, Imelda, Samantha and Arthur than a community of incredibly diverse and talented people that want to be represented, then I'm truly lost for words.

5. The Pedophilia

To pair with the "teenage supermodels" from my earlier complaints, there are also mods that unironically add incredibly short skirts, thigh-highs, dresses so form fitting you'd think they just painted on the skin and modded female MC bodies to "reflect a more curvy and feminine silhouette." I'm not even joking. Below is a snippet from a mod description, of which both the mod and modder I will keep anonymous.

They are 15. Fifteen. That's ten plus five. That's 3 years *before* they turn 18.

I don't think I need to stress how catastrophically horrible this is.

Luckily, the game-supported mod manager has very few of this specific breed of mod, but Nexusmods has no such jurisdiction- and thus terrifies me all the more.

TLDR;

I like mods but some of the mods are problematic.

Hey Steddie nation! Some of you may have noticed, but I (mod Andrew) have been pretty absent lately. After thinking on it, I've decided to leave the blog. While the steddie fandom will always hold a special place in my heart, I'm just not super into Stranger Things anymore and I don't see myself coming back to it.
