Favourite thing about them:

His fucking CHAPTER oguhgguughggugh i could talk about him and his experiences for HOURS OGUGHGUGUH. Hi. I am NOT normal about him. Tho genuine, less vague answer is probably just. Like. His personality? Like he is SUCH a good dad and i just wanna see him and Weasel Kid bond post-game yknow??? But also like. His entire life is the wastes, people wanting to kill him and his son around every corner, yet he still tries and avoid violence whenever possible?? I dont know if it's more of a genuine pacifist thing or if he doesnt want his son to experience all this death, but like. I kinda wanna lean towards the second option considering how quickly he resorted to killing and shooting on sight when Rocky wasnt there. And I know thats mainly bc of trauma and determination to get to his kid but. I mean. Shooting Jeremiah in the chest was NOT necessary. Anyways also hes silly and goofy and I love him <3

Least favourite thing about him:

Maybe not about HIM specifically but like. I wish the mind control serum was explored more?? Like it kinda feels like a useless plot. Yes it triggered Carla's hardcore mod, but unless she or Sado were in contact with Reggie and Jeremiah somehow, then that mod could've just...been triggered differently. And like. It's mostly Sado's actions that drive him to that brink of insanity. I cant remember if Jeremiah told him to go to the inn, but the ONLY reason i can see the MC Serum being important is just to get him to the inn. other than that. He joins in on the ritual because he thinks it'll get Rocky back. He's already a player character, he doesnt NEED to be controlled by the player. And also I think the potential of him being the dead body up during Junior's lil assistance section of VG2 is unexplored

Thank fucking god this fandom is small because weirdos would use Lionel's voice line about never figuring out Rust and Rockys exact bond as an excuse for proshitting. So. Yay small fandom moment <3

Random Headcanon:

I dont know how random BUT while in the Wastes, he's fairly thin and doesn't eat much, only eating up to half of their food rations, often less, saving the rest for Rocky. But he had slight muscle to make up for it, because I'm sure carrying around supplies and a bigass shot gun all day every day + walking all day every day at least builds up SOME muscle. Once he gets to the inn, however, he loses his gun and doesn't walk around too much. After all, the inn is MUCH smaller than the wastes. So, he ends up losing muscle. Not to mention he's probably eating less (especially after the possibility of fully coming to terms with what happened to his son), so. He grows thinner. Though he DOES go down a road of recovery (probably with Bryce's help tbh, knowing how Bryce is) and ends up regaining some body fat! He eventually gets healthy enough that he slowly develops a bit of a dad bod :-) I wanted to draw out this hc but couldn't get the anatomy to look right so I forgot about it, but I am VERY happy I get to ramble about it now <3

Unpopular Opinion:

There are like 2 or 3 other people who talk about Rust enough for ANY sort of 'popular' opinion to form. So. That sucks. Does him being the skeleton in the GameWorks base count? Can I say he's smart just not conventionally smart? Like he can hotwire a car and picked up some German thanks to a certain nuclear sandworm and can aim with perfect accuracy despite having poor vision, but he can't read or do math or write or-

I've been working on a Caleb Shepard 2.0 run through ME:LE because I FINALLY got the look I wanted for him in ME3 last time around, and here are a few of the updated pictures from ME1 & 2. (also running with a few mods. Thank goodness for the mods!!!! Even though all don't necessarily apply to his particular headcanons (ie: romance mod - but I'm so damned tired of him not getting a cut scene on the way to Ilos or Omega-4 Relay because he was unromanced!)

Man, he loved that Colossus armor, and he looks so GOOD in it! lol

He has two or three moments of 'sort of' happiness in ME2 - when he sees Joker and realizes he isn't alone, and when he catches sight of the CIC of the Normandy for the first time since waking up on Lazarus station. (Also when he sees Dr. Chakwas the first time). The only other thing that makes him happy is...

While playing ME today some npc said "Genetic enhancements that every soldier in the alliance recieves" while discussing gene therapy issues and that reminded me of your thoughts on the translation implants and hearing, and you being a bio engineer. Now I wonder: any headcanon that you have or come up with regarding your Shep? (1/2, another ask incoming that belongs to this)

I imagine Reda being earthborn and basically BORN into the Reds has never had any contact with genetic engineering and had all quoted "genetic enhancements" that most seem to get pre-birth or as a child barely before joining the Alliance. Which made her not necessarily pro all that stuff, because life wasn't crap before either, right? Now I wonder how the different backgrounds affect Shepard's opinions on genetic enhancements (and, of course, Project Lazarus).

My Shep is a spacer. Her family has been in the Alliance for generations, and this gave her parents access to top-tier genetic screenings and enhancements pre-birth. 

One important detail about her is related to her (second, but actually preferred) name, Angela. The other Angela she was named after was her father’s sister; unfortunately, she passed away in her late teens (before our Commander was even born) due to a genetic illness. The screening procedures and corrections for her specific disease weren’t available yet when Shepard’s late aunt was born, so her disease wasn’t discovered until after her birth. Her untimely death had a profound impact on Mark Shepard (Jane’s father): seeing his sister struggle for all her life with such a cruel illness until she eventually succumbed to it made him determined to do anything in his power to prevent his daughter from going through something similar. 

The genetic modifications Jane was given in utero were mostly related to disease prevention. After enlisting, she received the standard military enhancements for improved strength, reflexes, and healing capabilities. As one can imagine, Cerberus gave her some genetic modification during the Lazarus Project as well. 

Now, on to Shepard’s opinion on all of this. 

For years, young Jane didn’t think too much about it. She was given genetic modifications before she was even born, and most of her family and friends had enhancements as well, so she considered it something almost natural. 

As a teen, after getting to know more about her late aunt, she developed an interest in the topic of genetic engineering: for a while, she even entertained the idea of studying to become a geneticist, and while still in school she took a few courses on genomics and genetic engineering. Enlisting and getting to know more people from various socioeconomic backgrounds gave her a practical frame of reference to compare to her scientific knowledge: many enlistees didn’t have any genetic modifications done, and the standard military ones were their first. 

In general, she sees genetic modification as an enormous scientific breakthrough that can offer extraordinary benefits. On the other hand, she’s well aware of the privileges it brings: people born into families of lower socioeconomic status (like Jeff) can often only get the basic gene mod package to prevent the most common genetic disorders, while children born into rich families usually get way more expensive modifications that give them an edge on several fields (health, athletic performances, intelligence, looks…), further increasing the gap between classes.

After the war (she survives it), and after the bulk of the reconstruction is done, she starts a campaign to enable people of lower socioeconomic status to access a wider array of genetic testing and modifications, hoping to provide more and more people with the same privileges that were basically only available to the rich before the war.

Hi! I've been playing Cyberpunk 2077 and it made me think about cybernetic (as well as cosmetic and genetic), augmentations in Mass Effect. Do you have any thoughts and headcanons on this topic? How enchanced are your Shepards?

This is an excellent question, and I apologize for taking so long to get to it. I do not have a great answer for you, as I haven't firmed up a lot of post-Lazarus details about Sam, but I imagine that with the technology we see in Mass Effect, augmentations would certainly be possible, and it's a bit of a surprise it isn't more prevalent. I mean, they cured Ashley's nearsightedness in the womb. Saren has a fully functional geth arm. Biotics have sophisticated brain implants to do space magic. And of course, Shepard literally comes back from the dead. There's a lot of room for possibility.

I've toyed with whether Sam has cybernetic eyes after Lazarus, which seems likely and awesome, but I can't bring myself to give up his organic eyes. I poured over some of the mod descriptions and class descriptions in ME2 to see what 'canon' has to say, and to see if I can make any of that not sound like game mechanics, since ME2 throws so much of ME1's hard science out the window. I have vaguely referenced "synthetic weave" in his skeleton and "microfibers" in his muscles for fic, but I haven't honed in on what that really means yet.

What I do think is that his body mass becomes greater because those augmentations densify his skeleton and muscles, which fucks with his biotics, because his own mass is now not what he's used to - so he has to relearn mass-shifting when it comes to himself. When you are someone who is so in-tune with the mass of everything around you, waking up in essentially a different body than you went to sleep in seems like it would be a mind fuck.

You know, if you really want to see some cool ideas about post-humanism and cybernetic modification, I highly recommend Alistair Reynolds, and his Revelation Space series. Reynolds has some amazing ideas about how humanity might evolve. There is a sect of humans known as Ultras that take body modification to the extreme. It's really fascinating stuff.

Original Post

A-Realistic: There was a decently long period of time where no one new entered the Basement. Lazarus was one of the kids to break this drought. It was his father who chased him down there. Lazarus was discovered by Isaac after he obtained enough Soul Hearts.

Like Bethany, T.Laz was rescued by his past self and ended up in the “lobby” after exiting the closet. His flipped personality came through when he first, well, flipped in a run. He was extremely confused and didn't know what to do. All he knew is the pain he felt was similar to when he was resurrected as a kid. Constantly flipping back and forth between rooms is what caused his other personality to be so… volatile.

B-not funny but cute: Honestly?? The sweetest one in the Basement (Magdalene's incredibly sweet too but sometimes her pageant sass comes through). Laz often teaches the others how to make friendship bracelets and other small crafts. The girls (except for Eve) let him do their hair because he does a mean French braid.

C-Angst: Poor Laz was always a pushover. He just hated fighting back and causing disagreements. He got bullied a lot in school because of that. Even when he made his way to the Basement some of the others (usually Cain, Judas, Azazel, and Lost) would tell him to sacrifice his health or life to get what they wanted. Laz would bottle up his annoyances and anger and keep it there. Sometimes he would tell his mom about it, sometimes not because he didn't want her to worry. When his mom left he had no one to talk to but God. But what was He doing for him?

All of his rage eventually personified itself as his Flipped personality. Screaming, cursing, violent; it doesn't help that in this form he's paranoid and in pain from being undead. He hates it and wishes God would keep him dead.

D-edmund is a cow on a trash farm: His hairstyle changes a lot through updates and mods because he often cuts and styles his own hair. He’s been thinking for a while now about going to beauty school to become a hair-stylist.

Elder Scroll DC Brainstorming (nothing set in stone i think...)

Just some brainstorming notes about my Elder Scrolls DC project

Strong candidates for companions from original mods: Lucien (confirmed), Kaidan, Inigo, Auri, Mrissi, Recorder, Vilja

Tim inherited/contracted the adoption bug from Bruce. There are far too many orphans in the world of Skyrim for his own comfort, and the temptation is GREAT.

BUT.... Then there's one of the twin girls Sissel in Rorikstead. She's the sweet one who's abused by both her father Lemkil and twin sister Britte...

Tim will never willingly choose a side in the Civil War. They started the stupid war without a Dragonborn, and damn it they can finish it without one too.

Being Dragonborn, Tim absorbs the souls of dragons when they are killed, so Alduin cannot resurrect them. However, even though they are absorbed, dragon souls retain their immortality, so they are stuck until Tim himself dies or he finds a way to "release" them after Alduin is dead.

Headcanon - the more dragon souls he absorbs, the more their "natures" influence him. Hears them in the back of his mind... sees them in his dreams... their "voices" come out most strongly when he's in the heat of battle, under high stress, or when he's really angry. Especially when he's angry, he exhibits a frightening level of bloodlust to those around him. When he comes back to himself, he's often shaken by how violent he's behaved against a certain person or in the aftermath of a specific battle.

Headcanon - It's a good thing Tim is going to be getting connected with the Dragonborn Museum (mod) early on through Lucien. Tim may be trying to repress the more violent/domination leaning tendencies of his dragon blood, but the draconic tendency to hoard/collect valuable items and other trophies is something he has no problem indulging. This... might also be another inherited/contracted bug from Bruce as well, considering how much of a hoarder of valuable trophies/memorabilia his adopted father is....

Meanwhile, back on DCU Earth, Tim's disappearance has NOT flown under the radar. His family and friends in Gotham City, the JL, and Titans may be several shades of frantic trying to find out what took him and where he went to. Ra's al Ghul may have been present on the mission where Tim disappeared and is on the top of the suspect list. Ra's may or may not have insight into why Tim was taken... If he does, he may actually quite reluctant to get involved in this mess considering Nirn Daedric Lords are likely involved, and he may have contracted with one or two in the distant past to create the Lazarus Pits and his soul is forfeit to them should he actually die and not get resurrected...

So look b, in my experience, otherkin can appear to be totally harmless, but often they are not towards themselves and those around them. For those who use kin as a coping mechanism, it can be ok in small doses but if it is taken too far, it is escapism, clear as day. And “kin shifts” and all of that are just cover-ups for underlying issues that can differ from person to person. While that’s ok, it should be taken into account the actual problems at hand(1/2?)

In addition, when kin take antikins advice to try letting go of a false identity, they do it extremely rashly as a way to make anti kin look like bullies (which some can be! there are jerks in all communities) and end up causing themselves extreme psychological harm. Kin is a centric point of a lot of drama and many kin are the ones hurting each other. I myself was bullied by kin to the near point of death threats on 2 occasions as an artist on this site. (2/3?) (oof this is getting long)Especially fictionkin, who get mad if I don’t draw their kintype correctly. That being said, kin can be really harmful towards artists. On many occasions, they take artists’ work without permission or credit and then say they, as the character, are entitled to it. In the past, I’ve been really hush hush about being antikin but I think it’s an issue. Not to say that your issues are not valid tho. And yknow it’s funny, how antiantikin blogs depict antikin as generalizing bullies. (3/4)While in fact, they are the ones always generalizing others who don’t agree with them or their headcanons. So perhaps, “hate-is-the-real-cringe”? (Also isn’t cringe culture dead lol?) that being said, do what you want. _Antikinnies are only after the rude ones and you know it. Ok, so I know I’m not Mot Lazarus but I’m gonna answer this anyway. I’m also gonna try and stay calm and rational as I reply to as many of the points as I can.

So lets start with correcting the fact that kin is never a coping mechanism. One who has something/someone who is used for coping is called a Copinglink and, while valid, isn’t otherkin/fictionkin. It’s another thing entirely.

Kin Shifts are just moments when the kintype is a little more prevalent I guess would be the right word for the kinfolk. It can come with some small changes in thought process and a feeling like you have things you don’t or w/e. The only true Kinfolk who may use it as an excuse to do things that they shouldn’t are the same ones who will say things like “I can’t help that I’m a Scorpio” or “I have BPD you have to meet my conditions!” There’s going to be people like that in any and all communities, but they’re never the majority, regardless of how loud they may be.

Antikin, from my experience, don’t just say “you shouldn’t be using a false identity” They send messages like “If you’re really a wolf then why don’t you eat raw meat?” or “I’m going to abuse my child if they tell me their Otherkin” or “otherkin is fucking stupid? I’m sorry that you’ve had such bad experience in the past with Fictionkin, but as I said earlier, bullies and assholes will be found in any community regardless of what community it is. They’re not the majority. Also, keep in mind that Anti-Kin Trolls will constantly pretend to be otherkin/fictionkin to try and give us a bad name, just so more will join their side. Also, I personally have never seen any Fictionkin get mad that people won’t draw their kintype right. Disappointed, yes, but never mad. I don’t doubt that there’s some that will, but I’ve just never seen it.

A lot of people will steal artwork and claim their entitled to it, kin or not. See the point on kin shifts to justify bad behavior for more on that, because it’s almost the same thing. I know that sometimes artwork gets stolen for kin aesthetics, but in most cases I’ve seen a simple chat with them can usually get it changed, have credit added, or have the piece removed as much as Tumblr will allow.

And no, antikin are not just after the rude ones or trying to help or whatever they’ve tried to tell you. If that was the case, then why was I given that ask I used as an example on my other blog when said blog only existed for a year at the time and I had been nothing but kind and respectful? How come we’ve been sent a “kys” message completely unprompted here? How come people have reblogged an old piece I made that was just saying “You’re hella valid regardless of how much you know about your fictionkintype or how divergent it is!” going off on “look at this idiot?” or many, many, many other personal situations I’ve experienced in the 5-6 years I’ve been on Tumblr? Regardless of how they may seem to you when you’re not otherkin/fictionkin, they’re nothing but bullies to those who are.

Also, to end on the cringe culture thing: a lot of us have decided that cringe culture shouldn’t be what it is currently {making fun of people, mostly children or mentally ill, for what they’re into, what they identify as, etc.} and instead should be something that makes more sense to be against {the people making fun of other people being called out at the bullies, or bigots depending, that they are}

Ah, so I’m not the only one!

I always make Shep bald in ME2 just for this headcanon (except when I’m using the femshep appearance consistency mod.) It makes sense that between dying and Project Lazarus, Shepard would lose some hair. I just imagine the events of ME 2 happening over a somewhat long time period (even though the games are vague about the canon passage of time,) so I imagine her hair would have regrown somewhat by the end.

I didn’t draw all of the scars in detail since this is just a concept drawing, but I imagine Shepard would have more scars on the rest of her body from whatever procedures the reconstruction entails. And probably more on her scalp which would be visible while her hair is still buzzed but eventually get covered by hair. 

That aside, from a design standpoint, I like the idea of hair itself being an indicator of passage of time. If I ever do fanart of this Shepard, I can know by the hair exactly when in the story that Shepard exists. I think the length of hair is good at indicating time. 

Also I love drama and I’m just imagine what it’s like for Shepard with long red hair suddenly waking up in an unfamiliar place, being told two years passed, then catching her own reflection somewhere and seeing how different her own appearance now is. Apart from scars, suddenly (from her perspective) missing would be a real shock and maybe lend a bit of early credence to the extraordinary claim Cerberus is making in having revived the dead. 

(Also, I forgot to mention this, I made her slightly paler in ME2. She’s pale as it is, but paler still when her skin hasn’t seen the sun in a while. Also maybe she’s still not in her best health, at least in the beginning, having only recently been resurrected.)

My only problem with this headcanon of course is that it becomes a bit less believable that everyone in ME2 still immediately recognizes her at a glance, especially before it becomes widely known that she is in fact not dead, but whatever. 

Messing around with Femshep designs. 

Row 1: Femshep in ME1 with hair up. Supper military professional.

Row 2: Femshep in ME1 with hair down. Only seen when off-duty.

Row 3: Femshep in ME2 right after being rebuilt and waking up. I imagine dying would result in some hair loss, or hair being shaved for the purpose of whatever medical procedures would be needed to rebuild her

Row 4 is Femshep in ME2 towards the end of the game’s events. Some hair is growing back and scars are fading.

Row 5 is Femshep in ME3. Hair has grown out more and all scars have been removed by Dr. Chakwas, including old ones.
