Hi, Mod Moose here, and I come bearing OCs. So, the one side character I found myself really latching onto for some reason was Becky Little, and I couldn't help but wonder what her life at Harvard was like. And I had OCs that I've more or less had for years across different fandoms, so…

This is Yoshimi and Yuri Mizuno (Yoshi on the left, Yuri on the right), third-generation (Sansei) Japanese-American identical twins from Queens, NYC. And there is a LOT to unpack with them, so there's more after the jump.

In the story I have made up in my head and would write if I had any writing talent, Becky arrives at Harvard in 1996 and meets these two among her housemates. She ends up roommates with Yoshi, but is initially closer with Yuri, as Yoshi's pretty quiet and reserved. However, over time she bonds with Yoshi, as they find that they have a bit more in common than they thought.

Becky also had a boyfriend in Harvard. Emphasis on "had". When she went to visit her family in "The Amazing Becky Little", Yoshi and Yuri found that Becky's boyfriend was cheating on her. And when Becky returned, Yoshi told her the bad news, as they were roommates and it'd probably be better for Becky to hear something like this in a one-on-one setting. Becky is of course devastated (and this is on top of her realizing during her family visit that she can be kinda insufferable and even insensitive without meaning to), but greatly appreciates Yoshi telling her. After this, they truly become friends… and eventually, much more. SO much more.

So that's where they fit in with Becky and the PA lore in general. As for Yoshi and Yuri themselves, again, there's a LOT to unpack with them. They were born in 1979, and were the best of friends from the beginning. They're identical twins, but have distinct looks and personalities - Yoshi's sarcastic, cheeky, and really cool (or at least, she tries to be), but she's also cynical and prone to gloominess, for reasons I'll go over in a bit. Meanwhile, Yuri's like the sweetest person on the planet, is somewhat more reserved, and her sense of humor is a bit more dry.

They also had a younger brother named Taro. Sadly, emphasis on "had". In 1992, when Yoshi was just twelve and Taro was just eight, they were in the car with their dad Goro (Yuri was elsewhere, with their mom Emi) when they got in a horrible wreck thanks to a drunk driver. And the impact hit the back of the car, where Yoshi and Taro were sitting. While Goro suffered from some broken bones, Yoshi was very badly injured, and her left arm in particular was so damaged that it had to be amputated. And Taro was killed on impact. This dark, tragic event hangs over the Mizuno family, especially Yoshi, who suffers from severe survivor's guilt and still has nightmares about it, all these years later. They had his ashes made into red heart gems that they wear in matching necklaces, to honor their little bro.

To end this on a lighter note, they also grow close to Nicky, who they of course meet through Becky, and end up becoming like her second and third older sister figures. When Nicky moves to NYC after attending Harvard, she bunks with Yuri, who lives alone in her own house right next to Becky and Yoshi's. And we're entering headcanon-for-the-show territory here, but when Nicky moves back to Hazelnut shortly after the events of "The Finale", Becky stays with her girlfriend/future wife and future sister-in-law in NYC, but they still keep in touch with Nicky and speak quite often on the phone and the like.

(OH, I guess I should elaborate on Nicky moving back to Hazelnut, huh. So… I headcanon that after the events of that episode, Nicky was let go from her job at the Wall Street Journal. Because she kiiinda sooorta physically attacked the President of the United States, Mark Hamill (god I love this show lmao). Yuri, who's a writer for the Journal and helped get Nicky the job, doesn't hold it against her (aside from some gentle teasing about "attacking Luke Skywalker") and is happy to be her reference for any new jobs she might take.)

Now for a bit about Yoshi and Yuri individually.

Yoshi

Yoshi is a huge, huge, HUGE hip-hop fan. It's practically her passion, her special interest. And it seems kinda funny at first (and I guess it is - there's some Michael Bolton in Office Space energy), but she's 100% serious about her love for the genre and is super knowledgeable about it. And she was able to grow up with hip-hop as it evolved from its inception in the late '70s, which is pretty cool. (In case you can't tell, this is very much Author Appeal for Mod Moose.) But what's REALLY funny? Becky Little's girlfriend being REALLY into hardcore gangsta rap.

She's a huge Star Wars fan - the movies, the books, the video games, you name it. Pretty much everything that made up the Star Wars Expanded Universe, at least before the Disney era. She also loves animation, her favorites being Batman: The Animated Series and, come 2011, Puella Magi Madoka Magica.

She loves aviation, and has wanted to be a pilot since she was a kid. And eventually, after saving up, she gets her pilot's license and her own small plane, which becomes her baby. And yes, she loves giving Becky flights.

And of course, she has one arm and wears a prosthetic. It took her a while to get the hang of having one arm, but she's adapted really well and can even do stuff like play some video games, using special one-handed controllers or even just some crazy techniques.

Speaking of, she loves video games and playing co-op games with Yuri. Her two favorites are Sonic the Hedgehog and Doom.

As for what Yoshi does for a living… she becomes a psychiatrist. Specifically, a child psychiatrist who specializes in grief counseling. Because she knows all too well what that's like, and wants to be there for kids going through similar situations to what she went through.

She's a lesbian. And her gay awakening was watching Olivia Newton-John's "Physical" video, who then became her first celebrity crush. And... I headcanon that a real Becky would look a awful lot like Olivia :D

Yuri (I don't have AS much about her, since she's a relatively newer OC)

Yuri's favorite music is pop/R&B, especially from the '80s. In fact, she's a bit of a Disco Dan (Disco Diane?) regarding the '80s - which meant she fit right into the early '00s when '80s nostalgia really took off.

She's an avid reader, her favorite genre being horror. She also becomes a writer - first writing articles for the Wall Street Journal, and eventually writing her own fiction and non-fiction books.

She's a huge Star Trek fan (her favorite is The Next Generation). Leading to a lot of playful feuding with Yoshi over what's better, Star Trek or Star Wars. Yuri's a bit of a film buff in general, and also loves animation, her faves being Jem and Sailor Moon.

She loves video games too, especially co-op with Yoshi. Her favorite is… also Sonic the Hedgehog.

She's a major space nerd. One of her most prized possessions is a badass telescope, and looks through it at the night sky every night.

Again, she's one of the sweetest people on the planet, but… don't make her mad. She doesn't get enraged like Nicky, but instead she goes into "tranquil fury" mode and it's legit unnerving.

She's aro/ace. She's a total shipper on deck for Yoshi and Becky, but is not interested in getting into a romantic relationship herself.

Also, my head-casting for them is the amazing Kimiko Glenn, using her normal speaking voice for Yoshi, and a somewhat lower voice for Yuri. Which would be funny, because given their personalities, you'd expect Yoshi and Yuri to have the opposite voices.

Was feeling a tad spiteful cause cowards were celebrating Peach n Daisy not turning into Elephants so I felt like trying to doodle some qually "cursed" transformations. They came out a bit cute tho :p

I tried to tackle it from a gameplay perspective. Elephant Mario seems to allow him to stomp through enemies unarmed so I figured Kangaroo Peach to improved jumping or just to carry players, Moose Daisy to barrel through obstacles

I will say tho, it is weird to give a character a unique power up that completely changes how you play a level. Tho, I'm all for levels that transforms and morphs based on which character gets the Animal Apple

But I can't deny that its weird to think you can play as Peach and go through a level that's meant for Elephant Mario

So Mod Peppie pointed out that Pepper Ann and Daria have several things in common as shows, but one of the most prominent is "the main character is clearly in a gay relationship with her best friend but the show never does anything with it".

Soooo, headcanon - Pepper Ann and Nicky become endgame. They realized they had feelings for each other during their teen years (and probably earlier), but couldn't bring themselves to confess (part nervousness, part not wanting to make their friendships "weird" if it turned out one didn't return the other's feelings, and part... well, the '00s weren't exactly the most LGBTQ+ friendly time), and then they went to college and were apart for nearly ten years.

After the trio reunited in "The Finale" and promised to keep much more in touch, well... Nicky has a boyfriend in Kevin (and PA actually sounded kinda upset when she found this out) and the ending sets up Pepper Ann and Craig Bean, but Nicky and PA realize that their hearts wouldn't really be in it and they were longing for each other, so they ended those relationships on on very good terms (and stayed good friends with them; Craig's a great guy and Kevin more than likely is too) and finally confessed to each other. It was... very emotional*.

Just... AHHHHH these two are so adorable and I love them SO MUCH.

So a while ago I had a sudden modding project idea hit me and I ended up taking it and gunning it through-

It's more of a silly mod compared to my more "serious" slugcat campaign mod projects, but keeping it fairly simple has given me more insight for my later mods, which I do appreciate.

The slugcat abilities are for the most part finished, aside from some buggy reactions that I may or may not try to figure out the /why/ of. Aside from working on art for the outro endings, menus, sleep screens, and ghost screens, it is "finished".

,,But, if anyone has any thoughts to adjust some of these abilities or even add more (mainly for Wigfrid, Wes, and Wickerbottom)...?

As of now the abilities of each slugcat is as follows:

Crafting-

Wilson- can craft spears(rock+rock), explosive spears(spear+cherrybomb), electric spears(spear+overseereye), neuronfly(pearl+overseereye), cherrybomb(pearl+flylure), scavbomb(pearl+cherrybomb), flashbang(pearl+mushroom), lantern(pearl+flashbang), sporepuff(pearl+lantern), singularitybomb(pearl+fireegg), overseereye via Gourmandcrafting

Willow- can craft explosive spears(spear+cherrybomb||fireegg), fireegg(rock+rock), karmaflower(fireegg+fireegg)

Wickerbottom- can craft electricspears(spear+overseereye||flarebomb), all Gourmandcrafting

Wigfrid- can craft firespears(spear+karmaflower), vulturemask(rock+karmaflower)

Wes- can craft bubblegrass(mushroom+mushroom), mushroom/slimemold/gooieduck/lillypuck/bees/puffball/lantern via Gourmandcrafting

Wilson- can struggle longer in predator grasps, backspear

Willow- lavaImmune, can cause water to become lethal(a bit buggy), explosive pyro parry

Wendy- can sedate an entire room of creatures(a bit buggy), regurgitates karmaflowers, mauling causes health bleedout

Wolfgang- changes stats depending on level of food, will lose food over time, slugslam/slide/roll

Wickerbottom- electric pyro jumps

Webber- immune to small spiders, can spawn a cloud of spiders, has overseer glow light in darkness, can grab creatures without stun, mauling causes health bleedout

Woodie- spawns in shelters with Lucy the FireSpear, at cycle halftime gains a large stat boost+becomes semi aquatic+starts to lose food over time+can grab creatures without stun, backspear

Wx78- items in stomach change stats/add abilities(needs notes of each item, mainly customPlayergravity at 0.25 from neuronfly and a miros bird spawner from pearl), makes rocks to pearls with swallowing, immune to mirosbirds(not vultures)

Wigfrid- can struggle longer in predator grasps, gains a large stat boost when playing with others/jollycoop

Wes- can grab leeches, very high jump

Maxwell- can spawn a “clone”(a bit buggy, extra directions needed), double spear hold, SaintStagger but lesser

I intend for these slugcats to be mostly played in jollycoop, hopefully with abilities that benefit each other (Willow and Wigfrid with the karmaflowers, Wx78 and Wilson with the pearls, for example), but since this is a silly mod idea I'm trying to not agonize over every little detail.

It's silly, and I am having fun coding it out and playing around with so many slugcats. Here's to finishing it up sooner rather than later - ideas are welcome!

On another note, I know this blog's layout is incredibly similar to the other IEYTD blogs run by @/bugtoast, but I did work on @/agency-unofficial for a while as well as answering some asks for a period of time. It's the only ask blog I've worked on and the way the layout for those blogs is the most familiar to me, so that's why I'm keeping it similar here.

A similar explanation runs for the designs, because me and Bug are friends, the way he draws them rubbed off on me so my roots are VERY obvious lmao.

I downloaded Animallica SE - which basically is a mod that adds a whole bunch of new fauna to Skyrim. It's great, it's cool, I love the variety - but my dumb ass immediately forgot that I installed it in the first place, meaning that when I saw a moose, I stupidly assumed that it was 1) vanilla, and 2) peaceful like the vanilla deer.

genuine question, what's Vintage Story like (and what do you personally like about it)? i looked at it and it feels sort of like a mix of Wurm and Minecraft which by itself is neat already but it'd be cool to directly hear about it from someone who played it :]

or in other words, grabbing you by your shoulders and shaking you politely to hear you talk about a cool looking game grrrr

Ok so like what if Minecraft had 10 times the lore and was 100 times more complex. It's the "infinite block world where you build and craft on a grid system" concept but with a zillion times the content and depth. You have to eat all five food groups to have maximum hp. There's a temperature system and you can craft and layer clothing. Animals have to be domesticated over many generations and will slowly become more tame over time. There's seasons. You can chisel blocks into itty bitty microdetailed voxel art. You can forge steel as a late game material but you have to do shit with blister iron and anvils and blast furnaces and crap that I've honestly never been able to wrap my head around. Soil fertility is a thing. Grass grows in real time. There are horror elements. There's an absurd amount of bricks you can make by combining different dyes and making them different shapes. Different regions and depths have different rock types, which are good for different things just like irl; only hard types for certain tools, only slate for slate roofing, only limestone and chalk for the creation of lime, and thus mortar...

And the MODDING SCENE. Oh my god the modding scene. Somebody wrote a system where the chicken colours and patterns have realistic genetics. Somebody made a mod that adds every crop you can think of to the game, and it's cross-compatible with the mod that adds an absurdly vast cooking system to the game that lets you make stuff like sausages and candy. There's a mod that makes it so there's like 50 different species of tree that all grow in realistic climate zones and have their own wood types.

AND IT'S A SMALL INDIE GAME WITH A BUSTLING ONLINE COMMUNITY. IT'S THE KIND OF STUDIO WHERE THEY STRAIGHT-UP HIRE THE REALLY GOOD MODDERS. LIKE THE ONE WHO CAN'T STOP ADDING ENTIRE FAMILIES OF ANIMAL TO THE GAME, THEY GOT HIRED TO HELP WITH THE DEER UPDATE I BELIEVE. OH YEAH THERE'S DEER. THE MOOSE ARE REALISTIC. I REPEAT, THE MOOSE ARE REALISTIC.

I will never shut up about how good Vintage Story is and everybody needs to play it with me right now (<- haven't played in months because I got too into a server and would spend hours a day hand-sculpting and firing roof shingles, which eventually burnt me out)
