PSA.
No roleplay, no group, no thread, no forum, no partner and no fictional character should ever, ever, ever be more important than:
Food.
Sleep.
Personal hygiene.
Your mental health.
School.
Work.
Any other responsibilities.
Real life.
This is just a hobby. It’s totally okay to use it as stress relief, as an escape, as something to make you happy and make you feel better. But do not under any circumstances neglect yourself as a human being in favor of this hobby. You come first. You and your health and your safety always will come first.
Don’t EVER let anyone make you feel bad for wanting or needing to go eat something, to go rest, to go take a shower, to take a hiatus, to go to school or work or to hang out with your friends. That’s unhealthy and abusive and no one deserves to be treated that way. You deserve your health, safety, and freedom.
Don’t let anyone try to take that away from you for the sake of one more reply, one more scene, anything.
If you ever have to choose between RP or food, sleep, a shower, school/work, anything like that... I hope the right decision to make is obvious.

Readmores in asks.
STEP ONE:
STEP TWO:
(Notice that anything you typed into the actual ask box is going to be surrounded by <p></p> brackets. Don't mess with those, and don't type anything else in this box unless you want to manually format it with HTML and stuff. I deleted the instructions I typed into this box because I didn't format them.)
STEP THREE:
When you post it, it'll have a readmore on it like a normal readmore.

ANONYMOUS ASKED: A) Can you link us to character sheets? B) Let's say character is up and running. How do you start your first roleplays? How do you get people interested in you? (I post starters on my canon, and sometimes they are not filled. Let alone being an OC.)
Okay! Let's do this in parts.
CHARACTER SHEETS AND THINGS THAT ARE PRETTY BITCHIN IMHO:
The 12 Common Archetypes
Checklist for character development.
This is a GREAT BIG fucking list of all kinds of shit and there's tons of character sheets and stuff on there so I'm just linking it instead of sifting through.
Anatomy of a Character. Not a sheet but still useful.
This isn't really character sheets but there's a lot of super important and helpful stuff on it too.
Positive/Negative traits for character bio reference.
In-Depth Character Generator Form. This fucking thing right here is the most comprehensive fucking character sheet you will EVER find, probably. You don't have to answer everything!
GETTING STARTED:
To the RPers who feel unloved...
A thing about plots that's pretty good.
Here's a rebloggable ask from Yours Truly about getting people to RP with you and stuff.
Another.
And another just in case.
Ton of good stuff on this blog as well.
In case you need fun plot ideas.
Another link list.
A post on why you shouldn't post ridiculous amounts of OOC stuff.
That's all I've got without doing some Google Fu and it's already taken me long enough to answer this. I'd talk about this stuff but frankly I'd be repeating what is said up there, so.
I guess all I can really tell you is APPROACH PEOPLE! Even if you follow people, sometimes they won't get the notification. Just send them a message IC and talk to them, man. It's scary at first but I guarantee if you talk to people, they will at least look at your blog. If your blog looks good (no Loading Ponies, no 10043437 OOC posts, etc), they'll probably follow you and then you can RP and shit!
If your starters go unanswered, try super hard to make them interesting. Everyone has seen those "my character got kidnapped" starters or "my character runs into yours at the store" or whatever. Look through prompt lists, find something you don't see often, and do it. Keep your open starters short, too, because let's face it... People are super duper lazy. If you don't catch interest quick, they're likely to keep scrolling rather than keep reading. It's hard at first but you'll get there, man!
Also try making your character do something interesting, like... I got mine started by just??? Reviewing shit??? It sounds kind of dumb when I say it here, but. Basically what he did was post his opinions on movies and music and food and I guess that was really eye-catching. I've also seen people get a bunch of attention for making their character draw. Even if you're not a good artist, you can say your character is a shit artist and make them draw stuff and initiate doodle-conversations with other RPers.
Even if it sounds totally off the wall, give it a shot. You never know, man. It's always worth it, anyway. I mean, if you don't do anything, you're not gonna get anything. But if you take a chance, your chances of getting responses and interactions are much higher!
And even if you don't get anything, well, at least you're not one of those assholes who sits around and never tries anything and never contacts others and never branches out and yet still expects everyone to flock to them anyway. Gosh. Always keep trying!!!!
>mod x says he wont talk much >talks a lot >oops

Hey!!!! Read this.
I have to post from my phone right now because tumblr is fucking up. What is happening is that the GNAA is storming tumblr right now, which is the cause of all the errors. I would post links but I can't from my phone so just google GNAA. DO NOT CLICK ANY STRANGE LINKS. IT IS A VIRUS. DON'T DO IT. The most common one I think is "Dearest Tumblr Users". Stay careful.

Okay, so I'm going through the inbox and making peeves to post later, and I don't have anything to say about any of them.
...Except these two.
...Uh????? You guys. No. No!!!!!!
That is absolutely not okay and you need to drop them.
If someone threatens their own safety for the sake of RP, they are a toxic person. They are not worth RPing with because they are using their own safety to manipulate you. Do not let them do this.
Whether they are serious about hurting themselves or not, they need serious help. That is not okay behavior. If you know anything about them (name, phone number, where they live) you can call the police. The police know how to deal with a suicide risk and they can get that person the help that they actually need.
If you do not think that's safe, or you are not willing to call the police, you can stop talking to them. Block them and move on, for your own sanity. Speaking from personal experience, I assure you that no one who uses their own personal safety as a means of manipulation of other people will hurt or kill themselves if you don't do what they want. That is not how depression or anything else actually works. It is nothing but a very unhealthy and very much not okay threat.
Again, for your own sanity and safety, do not let them push you around. Either get them the help they need, or vacate the scene. It's better for everyone involved in the long run. RP is not worth that.
Here is a helpful link for you to read on what to do when someone threatens to commit suicide. ("Call 911 or the local emergency response number, if necessary. Contact the person's doctor, the police, a crisis intervention team, or others who are trained to help.")
And another.
Please read those links and stay safe, guys.

PSA: It's spelled canon, not cannon.
"A canon is a rule or a body of rules or principles generally established as valid and fundamental in a field of art or philosophy." -- Wikipedia. Canon is the shit that's actually true to whatever media you're representing in your RP, writing, art, etc. Headcanon is things you think up yourself about the canon, but it's unconfirmed yet. Fanon, short for fan canon, is particularly widely accepted headcanon. A CANNON, however, is any piece of artillery that uses gunpowder to launch a projectile. It's a weapon. It has very little to do with fandom.

It's okay to not like other RPers!
But unless they did something genuinely wrong on an OOC level? It's not okay to start crusades against them and tell everyone how "bad" they are and try to get people to hate them just because you didn't like the portrayal of their character.
That's taking things way too far. Calm down. Don't be a dick. Let other people form their own opinions. This is just a hobby.

Good RP comes from good communication.
If you do not communicate with other people before you assume things, you're doing it wrong and you're also being really rude.
DO NOT just assume things. Ask other people. It will not kill you to send a message that says "((Hey, is it okay if _____?))" Even if you think it's a dumb question, clarification won't hinder anything.
You might even make some friends.
It's always better to ask first than to assume. Good RP comes from good communication. Bad RP comes from bad or no communication.

Do you have any references to writing BDSM or maybe some guides to writing it?
I was born for this.
Okay… I don’t have references for writing it, just a ton for being in it. Still, though, there’s not a lot of difference? They’re still useful. Also none of these links are visibly NSFW, but it’s still probably not gonna go over well if you’re looking at this stuff where you might get in trouble, so fair warning to anyone who clicks these links.
This is a hella ugly website, but it’s still good in terms of learning… Terms. I linked straight to the FAQ because the looks of the website might make people give up before they scroll to the important part.
This is good too! And I can see that off to the right, they also have some information about polyamory, too… And a grammar cheat sheet. A+.
This is a reddit, but I’m linking it because just skimming through, they have a section on consensual non-consent which is VERY IMPORTANT. A healthy BDSM relationship doesn’t involve rape. Understanding the difference between con-non-con and rape is really, really, really important if you intend to portray things in a healthy manner.
This is a wiki but it’s pretty simple to read and pretty comprehensive. There’s also tons of fetish/lifestyle-related links that are also pretty helpful as well.
This one is also really super good too, even if it’s also kind of an ugly website. The “common mistakes” bit, the “rights of a submissive”, and “qualities of a good mistress” sections are of particular interest. There’s also some example contracts, which are really helpful! Having characters write up contracts is pretty fun, in my experience.
I’ll throw in this as well because at the bottom they have a linklist that includes a lot more helpful stuff.
That’s about all I’ve got? I feel like I’m starting to get a bit repetitive.
Anyway, I hope this helps!
EDIT: Tumblr user kgillsrpc sent in two links! This one and this one. The first even goes over different types of dom/mes and subs! The second is a lot more focused on a dom/me caring for a sub.
I also remembered that this exits, but it’s more about spanking. Still, important things to keep in mind and cute graphics at the same time.
EDIT 2: Spookydickfun sent in this link to a super useful link list.

How to: Write a disclaimer box.
A while back we answered this ask, but I felt like my answer to it was crap, vague, and I forgot a few things. So I expanded a bit more.
Some ideal things to include would be:
A very brief summary of what the blog is. Independent or the group name, original character or canon, what the canon is from, if it's an AU and the name of the AU, rule 63 or not, etc. It's good to note if it's an RP blog or if it's an ask blog, especially if you run an ask blog and only take answers instead of paragraph RPing with people.
A note on the frequency of OOC content and how it is marked. Just a simple statement on what your tag is, what your brackets are, and how you tag them (if you do).
A link to your about the mun/OOC page, if you'd like your followers to know a little about you.
A link to your rules page. It's a good idea to list the things you prefer doing, the things you don't like to do, and your preferred methods of RPing just so people know what they're in for seeing and interacting with. Some people call this page something besides a rules page, but whatever you call it, it's good to have.
A statement about the content of the blog as a warning. If you smut a lot or post violent things, or your character does drugs, maybe they post snakes or spiders... This is where you make note of that and how often those things will show up. If your blog is SFW and tame, either say so or don't worry about this.
A link to your tags page. This is so people can figure out how to find things on your blog, or how to block things they might not want to see.
A statement about how easy to provoke your character is, if they are. Something like this will let people know that your character has a fiery temper and will attack if they're insulted. This way people won't get mad at you if they provoke your character and they attack!
Make note if it's a sideblog. Sometimes people get offended if you don't follow back, but you can't follow back from sideblogs. Just let them know here.
A statement that IC =/= OOC. This should be common sense, but it's a good idea to make note of it if your character is mean, rude, or has some opinions some people might find offensive.
A link to your own/main blog if you'd like.
None of that information has to be in any specific order, but the shorter you can keep it, the better! It seems like a lot of information, but that's because I'm a long-winded jackass. In reality, your disclaimer should only include the information relevant to your blog. Don't get wordy, you're just outlining the very, very, very basics for everyone just passing through. Save all the in-dept things for your about/info pages!
I think that's enough to get the point across. The only things I would truly insist on having are the character summary/group info and the tags page, your blog being SFW or not, and "roleplay blog" or "ask blog" label.
There are some examples under the readmore if that helps you see what I mean. If you don't need them, I hope I helped someone out there!
This is an original character roleplay blog. Rare OOC posts will be tagged #OOC. He usually talks to people through his blog, not face-to-face. {About RPing with me.} He is a rude asshole. Please remember IC =/= OOC! This blog is occasionally inappropriate. All problematic content will be tagged. {Tag page.}
That one is from my own RP blog. I don't have a link to my personal blog because my personal blog is boring. He's not a part of any groups and he's not an AU, so I made no note of that.
Here's another:
Fem!Captain America (college AU) roleplay blog. Part of the {Avengers Institute group.} All interactions with Cap will be assumed face-to-face. {Rules page.} This blog is SFW. {Tags.}
That character wouldn't need a note about being mean, because Cap is generally not a very rude character. Leave things that are unnecessary out!
Here's one more.
Hunter fancharacter from the L4D {zombie group.} All interactions will be face-to-face. He is very aggressive and will attack your character if provoked. IC =/= OOC, don't take it personally! This blog will be violent and both images and description of violence will be frequent. {Tag page.} {OOC blog.} This is a sideblog.
This character is violent, so that warning was added in. This one doesn't have a mun or rules page but a link to the mun's blog, which is perfectly okay.
I hope that helped someone out there!

CLEARS MY THROAT AND SHOVES MY FOOT IN THE DOOR
In addition to what B said, I'd like to add that...
Roleplay is a hobby for fun, not a popularity contest. People who treat it like a popularity contest are taking irrelevant numbers too seriously. Focus on actually roleplaying and having fun. It doesn't matter how many followers you have, truly. Having 5 followers doesn't make you a bad roleplayer and having 500 or even 5,000 doesn't make you a good one, either. Nobody can even agree on what makes you "popular" and like I said, "popular" =/= quality.
It's just a number. It does not make you any better or any worse. It does not matter in real life and no one will be impressed if you say "my roleplay blog has 300 followers!" or anything like that.
Besides... That number is gonna go up and down no matter what. Sometimes you get followed by spam bots. Sometimes you get followed by people who are already following you, but want to follow you from a different blog, too. Sometimes you lose followers because someone decided to delete their blog. Sometimes they've already deleted but Tumblr hasn't cleared them out yet. Sometimes it's an accident! Sometimes the people who stay following you are inactive and have been inactive for months.
My advice is to not worry about it. If seeing the number makes it hard to not worry about it, I'd suggest using this extension. I use it personally because numbers that don't end in 5 or 0 make me anxious because they feel "messy", but it's also good if you worry too much about people unfollowing you.

I hope this isn't too confusing, but...
Occasions in which it is totally inappropriate to tell someone to "stop RPing":
You don't like what they're doing.
Occasions in which it is appropriate to tell someone to "stop RPing":
When RPing is getting in the way of their own personal IRL well-being and you are their friend and you want them to be happy and safe and healthy.
