breaks into your house and lays down in your askbox listen I spend a LOT of time imagining the fic where a person who somehow knows what ADHD is (either through isekai or being from A Distant Land I Just Made Up [Germany]) reads or hears about Holmes's whole deal and in a fury of commiseration SLAMS open the door to 221b and goes MR HOLMES I HAVE SO MUCH UNSOLICITED AND COMPLETELY UNLICENSED MEDICAL ADVICE FOR YOU
sidenote in this theoretical fic the person in question almost tells Holmes what ADHD stands for, realizes that Holmes will never fuckening believe that he has a condition called attention deficit, and calls it attention dysregulation instead
PLASE please yes, somebody ANYBODY tell him
Holmes Slowly Unpacking His Unonscious Trauma Of Growing Up As A Neurodivergent Person In Victorian Society is what i'm living for too

GEHEN, STEHEN, TREPPENSTEIGEN - Was tun Menschen auf Ansichtskarten? (Instagram-Post vom 17. Juni 2024)

For the asks, do you have a favorite filler episode of Inuyasha? And if you could come up with a fun filler episode for Inuyasha and the gang, what would it be about?
my favorite filler episode is a tie between episodes eight nine, "nursing battle of the rival lovers," and ninety, "sota's brave confession of love." these two episodes are actually back to back in terms of the timeline, which is really neat.
nursing battle of the rival lovers:
i'm a sucker for "character A takes care of character B, who's sick"
we get inuyasha providing for kagome - the hunting montage is my favorite!!
i will take my shreds of inumama lore when i can get them!! i subscribe to the headcanon that she made this for him when he was sick (which also implies that inuyasha CAN get sick like a human...imagine when they're married, kagome makes this exact thing for him lol)
i love love LOVE this scene where kagome's friends come visit her and start talking about all these school things, and kagome realizes how much she's missed and she has a brief moment of :((
inuyasha and sota being so casual:
in general i love sota and inuyasha's dynamic
one of kagome's friends being like "omg. he doesnt know about inuyasha." in reference to hojo
"she's drinking the liver potion!!" - sota
this:
also, this:
and this moment where inuyasha further sees that there are other people who love and cherish kagome in her time:
10/10 filler episode, no notes
sota's brave confession of love:
i've made a whole post about why i love this episode, but brief recap:
more sota and inuyasha. can you tell i love them?
sota being down bad
inuyasha and kagome having that conversation about how sota should just confess (they're painted as oblivious about their own feelings towards each other in the anime, which is obviously wrong, but i thought this was funny in the context of the episode)
"i didn't ask??" - inuyasha
WINGMAN INUYASHA AND KAGOME.
banzai!
detective conan reference
inuyasha and kagome having their little flustered moment in the bushes
9/10 filler episode no notes
if i had to come up with a filler episode for inuyasha, it would most assuredly take place in the modenr era. all the best filler episodes take place in the modern era...it's just guaranteed fun. i think i'd have an episode where kagome takes human inuyasha into her realm, because she figures it would be safer for him there. she tries to distract him from his usual new moon anxieties, and when sota learns inuyasha's staying over he's all, "inuyasha's sleeping over?" so they have an actual sleepover...food, movies, the whole shebang.
i also think it'd be funny if human inuyasha posed as a student at kagome's school in an effort to get to her for some reason - maybe she forgot her lunch at home, and he told mama higurashi he'd deliver it to her. cue guy in a rumpled school uniform and a lunch bag going around the school and asking people if they know kagome, always out of reach of finding her - when he finds her classroom, she's gone for gym, when he finds the gym, she's back in the classroom, etc. meanwhile he's been unintentionally wrecking the school in the process, and he has a the whole student council after him for vandalism. he eventually finds kagome and delivers her lunch though <3
thank u for the ask!

MODENR AUBJDJDND ENEMIES RO LCOCERSS YEAH ?
ren is certain of two things. first, acting is easy, straightforward, even fun when done right. that might be a biased opinion, given that he’s an aspiring actor himself, or something close to it. the second thing ? actors and film students don’t mix well. at least, not when the film student in question is dan heng. dan heng, with his camera, his scripts, and his endless archive of ideas — each one meticulously refined for weeks before he even considers filming the first frame. his perfectionism is exhausting, his obsession with detail almost unbearable. worst of all, at times, he insists ren doesn’t even need to be the focus. the camera should capture the light behind him, the back of his head, maybe even omit his face entirely. but a movie needs an actor, and an actor needs to be seen. it should be that simple. right ? if only.
❝ why are you late again ? ❞ the moment the door to their shared dorm swings open, ren hurls one of two stuffed penguins straight at dan heng’s head. those stupid, matching penguins — always perched neatly on dan heng’s bed, on his side of the room, staring with their oversized, beady eyes while their owner was off doing god knows what. it’s 2am when dan heng finally gets back. and no, ren hasn’t been waiting up — he wouldn’t admit to that, at least. but there is a curfew, one that applies to both of them, and if dan heng gets in trouble, ren might get dragged down with him. then again, dan heng is never late. he’s not the type to break rules, not the one between them who groans into his pillow and suggests skipping first period just to get a little more sleep. he’s always up, at least halfway ready by the time ren manages to open his eyes properly. always home on time. always turning in assignments without fail. prim, proper, and so fucking perfect. it drives ren insane.
when dan heng takes too long to answer — though, in reality, it’s probably only a few seconds, given how abysmal ren’s patience is — the second stuffed penguin goes flying, this time aimed at dan heng’s legs. with that, ren rolls onto his back, staring up at the ceiling where the faint outlines of old glow-in-the-dark stars still linger, remnants of whoever lived here before them. it feels like a childish thing to have in a college dorm, or so ren thinks. then again, his roommate seems intent on building a stuffed penguin sanctuary on his bed. why ? hell if ren knows. he’s going to be annoyed about it either way.
❝ some guy came by to see you while you were gone. ❞ some tall, lanky guy with dark hair that had a faint blue tint to it. the moment ren realized he was there for dan heng, he slammed the door in his face without a second thought — only to pivot halfway back to bed, yank the door open again, and shout down the hallway for the guy to come back. whatever questioning happened after that isn’t something dan heng needs to know about. what does matter is that now ren is pissed for an entirely different reason. the guy had shown up barely an hour before curfew — what the hell did he need to see dan heng for that late ? and, more importantly, why the fuck does ren even care ?
❝ you’re a senior, why the fuck are you seeing a first year an hour before curfew ?! ❞

I remember reading a teen novel adaptation in which Darcy is actually the son of an actress/director duo, and is considered as Hollywood royalty. It was set in California and the sisters attended a rich people high school because their mom was the headmaster, which I thought was very interesting in terms of family dynamics.
It's called 'Epic Fail' by Claire LaZebnik if you want to check it out
Watched Pride and Prejudice (2005) today for about the 100th time, and it's got me back to thinking of the modern AU I've had in my head for years.
Mrs Bennett as a Stage mum.
Lizzie and Jane are 'classically' trained, in stage school, Jane does ballet as well and Lizzie wants to be a writer. Mary is focussed on her music and Mrs Bennett despairs that she is not suited to the public eye, but keeps trying to send her on the x factor and arranging meetings with music producers. Kitty and Lydia were in baby beauty pagents and acting in adverts and the occasional episodes of sitcoms since they were babies, and Mrs Bennett is desperate to get them their big break. Mr Bennett is a screenwriter who writes very good high brow stuff for BBC 4, but the viewing figures are way down and he comes from old money and is whittling away his savings.
Wickham is a predatory director who basically manipulates young women by promising them parts, casting couch bullshit. Bingley is an actor who is way to naïve for the industry, new to the role of leading man, and his sister is a more jaded starlet who has been in the industry since she was a tween. Darcy is also a leading man, and he has been acting for longer and his parents were a diretor and actor pair so he knows the industry well, and he got custody of Georgiana after their parents defrauded her of her earnings as a child star, and then the Wickham bullshit happened.
Lady Catherine is old money and also used to be an actress on the stage, Mr Collins runs an independant theatre troop that she is financing and he thinks is high art. It is not high art, it is very am dram over the top nonsense. He falls for Lizzie and wants her to be the leading lady in his latest show and Charlotte Lucas accepts the role in her place because she is terrified of aging out of being cast.
#pride and prejudice#I've read too many adaptations#and seen too many of them as well#literally have at least 4 other books in my kindle that are modenr p&p adaptations#including one with spies#I can't help it if I just accidentally find out about them#and then can't stop myself from reading them#also I love this post's ideas#10/10 would read this version if it ever came out

Two stories, one world: The Nutcracker

Originally posted on The Moving Lips
The Christmas imaginary, the holiday, celebrations inspired the greatest European authors since the origin of modenrity, from Nikolay Gogol’, Charles Dickens, Boris Pasternak, Alexandre Dumas pére, becoming each time an opportunity to develop the topics of national folklore in a Christian point of view, or to explore the creative mind in the lens of childhood or through the beauty of brief moments of joy, or even becoming an occasion to critique or describing the social context of a given historical period, narrating the fate of a people, of a certain individual.
How many of us book lovers lose ourselves in Gogol’s irreverent worlds with “The Night Before Christmas”, or travelled in the Christmas of our childhood, present and future together with Scrooge, the main character of “A Christmas Carol”, or even thanks to a timeless tale such as “The Nutcracker”, immortalised by the opera of the great Russian musician, Pëtr I. Chaykovsky. “The Nutcracker” had made thousand and thousand of children dream all over the world and given us magic moments for our Christmas, but this beautiful and apparently simple tale hides a complexity which collects History and the collective imaginary of whole generations, because “The Nutcracker” is not just a Christmas story for children.
The original story, titled “Nutcracker and Mouse King” (Nußknacker und Mausekönig) is a novel by E.T.A Hoffmann, written in 1816, during the Romanticism era, and, indeed, many topics of this literary movements are contained in this tale; nevertheless, the story as it’s known by most readers, and used for the well-known ballet put to music by Chaykovsky, is the one told by the version edited by Alexander Dumas pére in 1844, in Positivist era, titled as “The Tale of the Nutcracker” (Histoire d’un casse-noisette). More edulcorated and detailed is the Dumas’s version, more intimistic and crueler is the one written of Hoffmann, these two works, although similar in the plot, show complex ideological differences, given the different historical contexts. Hoffmann takes the Romantic literary tendencies to tell Nutcracker’s story, this toy hero who challenges the evil forces symbolised by the Mouse King, firstly by not hesitating a more intimate vision of the story, describing Christmas atmosphere in a symbolic way, almost like he wanted to imitate children’s gaze, that «[v]iewed from the perspective of the three children, the Christmas tree is magic, and the events feel them with wonder and terror»[1]. Here, moreover, starting from the tradition begun by Hegel’s “The Phenomenology of the Spirit”, he built the structure of the book on the dualism of the identity of the object (i.e. the mind becoming the object of observation), subject and the thematic of the double.
More detailed and realistic, as positivist tradition ruled, is Dumas’s version, that put on the foreground not the individual, but family and society, moving from a magic imaginary of Christmas to social aspects, describing habits and traditions. The story is projected to the world, denying the existence of the “spirit”; «[u]nlike the Hoffmann story, where everything is part of everything else, Dumas disengages himself from the story (also through the distancing “Once upon a time” opening formula), destroying its credibility, and transforming it into a realist type of narrative with detailed portraits of the characters, on which he passes judgement like an omniscient narrator»[2].
This relation with reality by connecting to the outer and to those historic events which inflamed Europe during 19th Century is one of the elements that makes this tale so unique, so appreciated by both children and adults. “The Nucracker” is a universal story, able to adapt to every historical period, and being always modern in its message; it’s a story that mediates between cultures and makes them connect to each other. It was born in Germany, then it moved to France, change language, and got to Russia, where it became one of the most touching classical ballet, to reach the whole Europe, being part of the fabric of this fragmented, complex, and variegated culture-continent, and going beyond. A world becoming the Konfektburg, the Candyland, in “The Nutcracker”, where different peoples – Greeks, Armenians, Tyrolese – lived together peacefully, where social classes are mixed, discuss and respect each other, where Europe and Asia can communicate in a time when it was not possible yet, when China was still closed within its borders, and Greeks and Armenians were fighting for their independence from the Ottoman Empire. A world in peace and united, an utopia dreamed by Marie, the main character, and everyone, in the innocence of childhood, dreamed that it could be exist. A fictional world, but where still the battle which most characterised the collective and cultural imaginary of humanity, which shaped myths and the knowledge of the world, which made us humans: the one which sees the forces of good fights the evils ones. The good, the Nutcracker, the general, the warrior who sacrificed himself, and the evil, the Mouse King, a nearly apocalyptic creature, a monster with seven heads of serpent, who’s firstly stopped by Marie, that received his crown, – who is the mean between the world of toys and the real one –, and then defeated by the Nutcracker, freeing himself from the malediction.
The Nutcracker symbolises the values of Christmas, i.e. communion, altruism, bravery, a united people, the victory of the good on the evil, the beauty of a world that only children (and artists) can see through the ugliness of this disappointing reality.
