Entertainment: Drawing anything which catches his attention, especially people. It's a way for him to study them and better understand how they work and what they think in a way. Riding or walking in nature are also relaxing experiences.

Pastime: Sparring with Elgar'nan or his friends to keep his senses keen. Playing pranks (Sera was a bad influence during his childhood) on those who annoy him. Writing letters to the friends he can no longer meet easily, like Kieran or his fellow Rook Ariele. Studying and eventually teaching ancient lore and elvhen when he has the time.

Food: He likes simple food, from stews to stirfries and soups, with no major preferences. He has a sweet tooth though, and would often get himself or his close ones a tray of Antivan Pasticcini (pastries) or Orlesian ones.

Drink: Coffee. In any form or quality. And with age he got to get a passion over alcohol, both for the taste and at times to relax and forget. He likes to think his Antivan blood has given him good resistance. He favors red wines, sweet liquors (especially lemon ones) and grappa brandy on his worst days.

Books: As a child he learned to read over the tomes found in the abandoned library in Skyhold, most were about ancient magic and history from far away lands, and his taste was heavily molded by this past experience. Currently he's trying to read some of Dirthamen's books, but they're extremely complicated. Still, he loves the challenge.

HAVE THEY...

Passed university: ... he studied under one of Dirthamen's spirit-ravens, does that count? In modern AUs... probably? I guess he dropped school in his teens only to get back on track after getting stable with Elgar'nan.

Had sex: Yes

Had sex in public: Not yet? But probably soon knowing his partner.

Gotten tattoos: No Vallaslin as his mother learned their true meaning from Solas, plus he was never officially part of a Dalish clan. In some bad ending AUs he might obtain Elgar'nan's. He has a 4 pointed star tattooed on his chest in all universes.

Gotten piercings: Earrings on both lobes, plus a couple of extra piecings on his left ear.

Gotten scarred: When his magic manifested, he was in the kitchens close to oil, with the result being a huge explosive fire, from which he got many scars, on the right side of his face and body. At one point, after Nadir learned to dominate his fear of fire completely, Elgar'nan healed them completely.

Had a broken heart: Does killing the one man you love most count as a broken heart? Because he had to kill Elgar'nan at the peak of their relationship, learning his love was truly reciprocated only after dealing the final and deadly wound to his lover. While he gets to bring him back later on, it's something Nadir has been never able to truly heal from.

Been in love: *points at Elgar'nan*

ARE THEY...

A cuddler: He will give you all the hugs. And pet you. And take care of you. Nadir has the extreme need to show off he cares and to feel worthy of somebody's company or attention so cuddles are one of his ways to do it. But first he will test your boundaries, as he doesn't want to overstep.

Scared easily: Apart from his own magic and fire for a good chunk of his life and the fear of disappointing or letting people down he's hardly scared, considering what he lived through, from the events at Haven and Skyhold, to living among spirits firsts and the Crows later to being trained and fighting Elgar'nan himself.

Jealous easily: Nay, not at all. He's content with the love he gets and if his partner wants to have fun with somebody else, he won't complain.

Trustworthy: Yes, once he makes a promise or gets a mission, he won't stop until it's done, even if he's going to sacrifice everything. His loyalty is absolute.

FAMILY:

Parents: His biological father is unknown, his biological mother was an exiled dalish, but died young leaving Nadir an orphan. He later was took under the wing of a human cook and her daughter, but never adopter, he was more of a help in the kitchen and company for the other child. Finally he met what he thinks of his family at Skyhold while working there: his main father figure, Enfenim, an ancient spirit of Fear with lost its memories (Who used to be one of Dirthamen's ravens) who befriended and tutored him. his adoptive mother, Elinan Lavellan, Inquisitor later known as the Shepherd of Spirits, who guided Enfenim to his path of redeption, and finally his other father figure, Solas. It's definitely complicated between the two of them.

Siblings: He has no known blood siblings, but he ends up seeing the reborn evanuris as such in the far future. Ariele De Riva (the other Rook) jokingly calls him brother due to the fact he took the De Riva surname for a while.

Children: Not his own. In my fanon Elgar'nan is infertile and anyhow Nadir wouldn't want to get pregnant, despite not hating the idea of becoming a parent. Later on, in one of my AUs there is the possibility he ends up adopting his own sister, after she's born from Elinan and Solas while they're in the fade jail, definitely not a place for a child to grow in.

Pets: When he was young, he used to take in all the hurt and lost animals, nurse them back to health but never had one he could call his own. WELL Enfenim and Uncle Imshael could turn into ravens, but I doubt they count as pets, because it would mean counting Solas as his dog. I'm pretty sure Elgar'nan would find it extremely hilarious but no. Later on he gets to adopt one of those fucked up "unicorns" aka an impaled dead horse possessed by a spirit but I don't think that counts as pet as well. Finally there was this idea of a little kitten getting obsessed with Elgar'nan and the two adopting it but it's still nameless.

It’s that time of year, writer friends — time to take stock of what we’ve been up to this year! Words written (published or not, WIPs totally count too!!): 999 496 — ARGH IT WAS SO CLOSE TO A COOL MILLION. I did this calculation on the evening of Dec 31 and I was like DAMMIT I NEED TO WRITE A DRABBLE LMAO. 😂🙈 Honestly, I’m surprised the word count was so high this year — I could have sworn my word count had dropped because I wrote very little for a few weeks after BG3 first came out LMAO!

Smut scenes: 42 — I've done better LOL. I’ll blame the slow-burn BG3 ships I’m working on currently. 😂

New things I tried:

I started dabbling in M/M smut this year, in the context of my beloved Horizon F/M/M polycules (Aloy/Drakka with either Kotallo or Nil). Usually when I write F/M/M threesomes, the focus is on the men pleasing the lucky lady of the group, but I headcanon Drakka in particular as being very unapologetically bi, so it’s only fair and right that he get some sweet M/M action. I’m looking forward to putting this M/M practice use on Halsin/Tav/Astarion when my BG3 writing finally gets to that point! 

This was also the first time that I wrote an AU where I gleefully yeeted the canon deaths LMAO. I’m usually a stickler for adhering to significant plot points including character deaths, but the dastardly and darling @iamcayc nudged me into writing Here Come the Dreams, where Varl and Fashav both get to live, and it was a total delight to keep those darling men alive and happy. 

I wrote a smut scene in first-person POV for the first time, using the adorable voice of Karlach from BG3. This was a particularly interesting challenge because I feel that the first-person voice calls for a more urgent in-the-moment kind of narration, which means that I had to alter my usual way of writing smut in terms of phrasing/wording and pacing, so it was a fun challenge! 

With Astarion/Tav/Halsin, this is my first time writing an OC who falls in love simultaneously with two people, and it’s been… interesting trying to negotiate the polycule coming together. Of course I had to get enamoured with (arguably) the two most emotionally complicated male LIs in BG3 and make my own life difficult, LMAO. I’ve been struggling a little with bringing the relationships together and it’s been slowing my writing down over the past month or two, but I’m trucking on because I love both Halsin and Astarion and I really do believe in the dynamics of the OT3. SILVANUS GUIDE MY HAND AS I FIGURE THIS SHIT OUT.

Fic I spent the most time on: 

Even The Hardiest Desert Blooms! I really sank my focus into my beloved Desert boy this year and wrapped up his fic, which is always a bittersweet feeling when you adore the pairing. 😭

Fic I spent the least time on:

Burning Blue (Karlach/Dammon). I was bitten by a sudden bug of adoration for them, and that piece basically came together in a day and a half because I was on fire to get it out. I LOVE THIS PAIRING SO MUCH. 😭🔥

Favourite thing I wrote: 

Even The Hardiest Desert Blooms has always been my self-indulgent pleasure because I just love Drakka to the moon and back, so focusing a lot of this year on his fic was a treat. But Here Come the Dreams was also an enormously fun project because I just went ham and hyperfocused on it for a month and a half. I really wanted to see if I could finish it in a month just for shits and giggles, but AS ALWAYS it ended up being longer than anticipated so I didn’t meet that goal, but it was still a total ball to come up with a fun little project and finish it as quickly as possible. 

Favourite thing I read: 

Hands-down, without a doubt, What’s A Sex Tape Between Friends?  by @auntie-coagulant. I don’t read much fanfic, and when I do, it's only for the ships that I don't write. So when I saw this fic recommended in the Kotallo server and I was like “Travis/Lis?? You have my attention.” My eyes were popping and I was HOWLING by the first chapter, and I’ve been dead in the water for this fic ever since and procrastinating on finishing the fic because MY EMOTIONS ARE NOT READY FOR THE HEARTBREAK.

Writing goals for next year: 

Finish Coming In Like A Western Wind. I’ve been sleeping on this fic since September because Astarion and Halsin turned my head and I feel really bad about it… but I do mean to finish it! 

Just keep on keeping on with my BG3 fics for Astarion and Halsin! I’ve been DYING to write smut for Halsin for months, and I have images living rent-free in my head of Astarion enjoying some very tender sensate focus, so let’s hope I get around to writing these scenes before I explode.

🌈is there a fic that you worked *really fucking hard on* that no one would ever know? maybe a scene/theme you struggled with?

There have been chapters in High-Flying Birds that I struggled with, and it is a fic I continue to struggle with sometimes haha. Mainly because there is so much I want to write, many little moments that are hard to arrange in a coherent chapter or arc, and there are also many things I feel like I have to write (or stay 100% faithful to canon) and that if I don’t readers might be disappointed or *I* will be disappointed with the end product looking back lol. It’s also a fic that I've done a lot of research for, so there were chapters or arcs that were a long time in the making (and one of the reasons why I'm so slow to update it lol...... it just all needs to marinate in my brain). One of the chapters that I struggled with in particular was The Sacrifice, because trying to condense Euripides' 'Iphigenia at Aulis' in a couple of chapters and also make it engaging and coherent was really hard.

Another fic I've struggled A LOT with, and I mean A LOT sometimes, is my DA longfic A World With You. Maybe it was because of my inexperience while writing certain bits, maybe it's the DA lore itself that is sometimes confusing but there were certain arcs that gave me such a hard time. I felt like I kept writing myself into corners and had to delete and rewrite a lot, and it was just pure agony lol. I do feel like I learned a lot through these struggles though so I don't begrudge them too much 😅

💝what is a fic that got a different response than you were expecting?

Ooh good question. I feel like you're a walking disaster and yet- is a fic that I did not expect many people to read-- I expected max 2 or 3 people to follow it but I've been pleasantly surprised by how invested people have become in this story. It warms my heart to see readers care so deeply about these boys; not to get overly personal LOL but I've poured a lot of my heart in it, it almost feels like cheating sometimes because several scenes or exchanges in it are things I or people close to me have experienced, and it's also sort of me appreciating but also heavily criticising the culture I've grown up in (something I hope comes across lol.) It’s so rare for me to be able to write something so close to my own reality that it feels like a niche in and of itself, and I'm so grateful for everyone who has been tagging along.

💥find your least kudos'd fic - say something wonderful about it.

Okay so I'm going to cheat for this one because my least kudosed fic is something I wrote ages ago for an exchange and I don’t have much to say about it, BUT my second least kudosed fic As It Was is one of my favourites because I wrote it for @mogwaei who is one of my favourite people, featuring Solas and their OC Maordrid from their fic Ouroboros, which is one of my favourite pieces of literature! Like ever!! And has had a profound impact on me and I love it and all the characters in it to bits!!! I still go back to this fic I wrote from time to time and drown myself in Mao/Solas feels 🫶 I feel like I captured something that is important to both of these characters, a small part of the connection they share and some of the things that draw them to one another. I'm quite proud of it ngl.

🤲what do YOU get out of writing?

Oh boy that's a good question haha. Like what does one get out of doing anything creative? It's definitely a great pastime. I spend many hours daydreaming/writing/editing/posting, time that I could use to do literally anything else but I just love the feeling of getting immersed in a different world, another person's mind. So escapism is a big part of it too I guess-- focusing on a fictional character's life and problems is so much better than focusing on my own LOL. I can tell you that my anxiety has been so much better ever since I started writing consistently, and it's why it's so important to me to set aside time every day to write.

Another more personal reason writing is important to me is because as an autistic person, writing about people and their feelings and how they interact with the world really helps me understand and process my own feelings and experiences in a way, since that is something I struggle with on a daily basis. And having this routine of writing also helps me gauge my mood/ emotions/energy levels, like I don’t always realise when I feel like shit or why I feel like this or what to do about it, but when I'm too tired or out of it to write I know it’s perhaps time to take a break and maybe reflect on some stuff lmao. And!! Of course!! Writing is great when it comes to processing traumatic or painful stuff. Like when my dad passed away last year I found myself writing a lot about grief and loneliness and losing people/situations that are important to you and not really knowing what to do about it, and I did that without even really realising it so I'm grateful for having this creative outlet that lets me process stuff in a somewhat healthy way lol.

15  OC ASSOCIATIONS — Rhiam

I was tagged by @mogwaei and I surely took my time because your idea of illustrating the aesthetics was too tempting ✨(didn’t know how to illustrate everything tho)

I could have done a Dragon Age character as well, but alas Rhiam consumes my soul. (And I’ve done similar sheets for Sonera and Velka already, Might do one for Petja later though!)

Explanations and rest of the associations under the cut:

Animal: Guinea pig (or ‘marsu’). He’s soft and friend shaped, and was half raised by a local marsu herder. And how you herd them is that in this world they are about the size of a capybara or sheep (and capybaras are about the size of a horse or pony). (Don’t ask me why, I don’t make the rules) (I love it tho). So a big guinea pig.

Colour: Blue of the night sky.

Month: He was born under the clear starry skies of Tilhenkierto / Waxwing (roughly December in our calendar).

Song: Jorvik Lullaby by Folk’ Avant (and by Star Stable. Yes it feels very nostalgic, yes I think it fits my babygirl). Also Schrei es in die Winde by Faun.

Number: Hmmm… maybe 7 since he's the seventh child in his family. Or 12 because that was his age when he realized his magic.

Day or Night: Rhiam exists during day, Maihr during night. Even though they are the same person, I feel like they are starting to have somewhat different experiences because Maihr doesn’t remember much of the things happening during the days. In the end though, I think stars and night skys are more him.

Plant: Ferns 🌿

Scent: The air of a cold winter day that hurts your face and lungs, with a hint of smoke in it. Or maybe melting spruce forest in the spring?

Gemstone: Sapphire.

Season: The transition between autumn and winter.

Place: By a small river, rapids, or stream.

Food: Specific kind of marsu cheese from his home village Sula, with rye bread.

Drink: Coffee with cream.

Astrological sign: I don’t know if they have those in that world? But I guess he would be sagittarius.

.... but not actually on a Friday 😅 I've been reading some new fics while also catching up on some old ones, so let's get to it!!

1. The Rebel's Ascension (Solas/Elvhen OC) by @in-arlathan : The story of how young Solas came to be Fen'harel, in the days of ancient Arlathan. This is one of my fave stories that explores Solas' past with so much imagination and creativity, and it was recently finished so I wanted to give it a shoutout!! @in-arlathan is currently working on a sequel to this story, which I'm excited to get into :D

2. Ouroboros (Solas/Elvhen OC, Dorian/ Male Lavellan) by @mogwaei : So what happens when one of Fen'Harel's agents travels back in time to stop him from fulfilling his plans? What happens if said agent falls in love with Fen'Harel himself AND ALSO finds acceptance and companionship where she least expected it?? These are only some of the questions this story poses, where the past meets the present and everything in between. Lore, intrigue, angst, adventure, banter, EPIC PLOT SPAGHETTI!! If you've been following me a while then you know this is a fic I'll never stop reccing, so pls go read!!

3. Agua Caliente (Achilles/Patroclus) by @baejax-the-great : After his messy divorce and his even messier breakup with his best friend, Achilles opens up a smoothie shop, gets therapy, and gets adopted by a bunch of 20year olds and a stray cat named Socks. A quiet and poignant take on healing and Patroclus' and Achilles' both clumsy and heartwarming attempts to find their way back to themselves and each other. A lovely and emotional read!!

4. Attempts at Domestication (Achilles/Patroclus/Hector) by @mary-aries : A sequel to Feral and Stray (which is a stunning fic if you like dark and complex stories as much as I do) that follows Achilles and Patroclus as they try to navigate the complexities of a relationship after the events of the main fic, and also a threesome with Hector 😳 Gorgeous writing and a very raw and honest look at all the main characters.

While I'm at it, let me mention waving and drowning (Sandy Reid/OC, The Charioteer) by the same author which is honestly one of my fave fics I've read, so sensitive and thoughtful and heartbreaking but so wholesome at the same time. Just a wonderful and cathartic read, if you're a Sandy sympathiser you should def read it!!

5. Closest To My Heart (Achilles/Patroclus/Zagreus) by @darlingpoppet : Achilles is in a sort of a casual sexual arrangement with Zagreus when he finds out that the young Prince has found Patroclus in Elysium. What comes next is Achilles being his most unhinged, possessive self, and Patroclus enabling that possessiveness and codependency and making it even worse, through Zagreus. Deliciously toxic and steamy, I absolutely loved it!!

It was meant to be a half day’s journey--close to a straight shot from the Crossroads, save a hill or twelve, but what was Ferelden without its hills? It was meant to be a half day’s journey. 

Of course they ran into templars. 

They were cocky, swinging their swords about in what they had surely meant to be an intimidation tactic. Three mages, a dwarf with a crossbow, and a single sword user? To them, Amaryllis was sure they looked the fool. But for the short time they had spent together, the five of them had learned well enough how to coordinate their battles.

The fight was over before it began. After a quick searching of pockets, they discovered a letter, the whereabouts of a Templar encampment, and a worn ring. Engraved was Mythal’s blessing.

“...why would they have had this?” Amaryllis was the first to speak. Ellana had grown eerily quiet, her brows drawn down with anger. She closed a shaking fist around the ring. 

“The trophy of a murderer?” Varric offered. “Not that I want to go there, but with these nugheads being what they were I wouldn’t be surprised.”

“Perhaps they found it on the road?” Cassandra added. “In any case, it would be best for us to move on. The Templar Encampment noted in this letter is not far.”

Ellana slid the ring into her pocket with a nod of finality. “Let’s not waste time, then.”

Syl'sils and their progeny, called Revasil, are ancient wisp-like flowers once said to grow where errant musings dwelled. If enough syl'sils accumulated, they would coalesce into a revasil and take root in the most unlikely places (often, unfortunately, resulting in their destruction due to their delicate nature).
