Ambitny projekt odtworzenia fresków, których uratowane fragmenty można oglądać w Muzeum Ikon opierał się na wykorzystaniu oryginalnej techniki pracy na mokrym tynku, bo tak ponad pięć wieków temu pracował autor supraskich polichromii, serbski mnich Nektariusz (według źródeł, zakończył prace nad nimi w 1557 roku).

Przygotowania do rekonstrukcji trwały kilka lat. Specjalistów, którzy potrafią tworzyć freski w ten sposób, znaleziono w Serbii, w Akademii Sztuki i Konserwacji w Belgradzie. Głównym źródłem wiedzy o tym, jak wyglądały freski, jest dokumentacja fotograficzna z początku XX wieku, ale twórcy posiłkowali się też np. książką o wykonywaniu fresków, którą Nektariusz napisał.

The ambitious project to restore the frescoes, of which the salvaged fragments can be viewed at the Museum of Icons, was based on the use of the original technique of working on wet plaster, as the author of the Supraśl polychromes, the Serbian monk Nektarius, did over five centuries ago (according to sources, he completed his work on them in 1557).

Preparations for the reconstruction lasted several years. Specialists who are capable of creating frescoes in this manner were found in Serbia, at the Academy of Arts and Conservation in Belgrade. The main source of knowledge about what the frescoes looked like is photographic documentation from the early 20th century, but the creators also referred to, for example, a book on fresco painting that Nektarius wrote.

I haven't seen the movie yet but I do wonder about the way people on here seem to read Lomeli / Lawrence as a guy who hates his job and his coworkers sooooo bad because tbh one of the traits that endeared me most to him is his exasperated affection for the other cardinals ? They get on his nerves soo bad and he would happily tuck every single one of them into bed and kiss them goodnight in the evening. There's an almost condescending note to it at times: As dean he is their guide, their shepherd. Every time one of them pisses him off he gets bitchy and then ends it on an empathetic and benevolent inner monologue because they are literally his brothers in Christ and they are the Church and the Church is the body of God. His Catholicism translates to compulsively loving every single one of his annoying coworkers wholeheartedly. And he MEANS IT.

lauds = early morning

prime = first hour of daylight

terce = third hour

sext = noon

nones = ninth hour

vespers = sunset

secret vespers = in the crypt whenever the cock crows thrice

forbidden vespers = in the forest every full moon

eternal vespers = nobody knows, because none who have attended eternal vespers have returned

compline = end of the day

group meowing = about five o clock daily

I need to come clean about something personal but I am wary of the judgement I will receive...

I have submitted an application to a monastery in my state and begun the process of becoming a novice monk. I have a complicated relationship with my faith and I believe this is a necessary step to making peace with God, especially after my recent struggles with the sin of greed (selling fake NFTs to my followers for hundreds of dollars). If this process goes any further, I may have to leave certain communities that are leading me to the Devil, such as the Hobby Horsing community and yes, even this Tumblr blog. frequently what happens is I'll be drawing a comic and think, huh. I wonder what shoes a 14th/15th century cardinal would wear. I bet they had fancy rules about it, and the answer will be in a 500 page book about the early modern cardinal. I'll think, 'WELLLLLL since I'm already here, I'll check out this other chapter that sounds interesting,' and then I'll find out that the vatican is literally hazardous to your health, but from that point on I'll be locked in for the entire book. I'll start reading through all the citations while checking to see what else some of the contributors have written. the comic has been forgotten entirely because I need to know more about the hats.
