in the watcher, when I was in the sewer area toward the end of the game, my brother was watching me play because he wanted to see my reaction (he'd already finished the game), and I noticed the water was green, and i thought it was odd because if everybody was dead, then there would be no sewage and it would be clear, right? (like in downpour, garbage wastes gets clearer as the campaigns go on. so I thought it'd be quite weird if the developers, especially /these/ particular developers, missed a detail like that.)

so i was like, "hey the water is all dirty that must mean there's still got to be some civilization haha." kind of only half-serious.

and he was. very quiet. and later when I got to the ancients reveal I turned to him and went "when I mentioned the sewer thing you were laughing on the inside werent you"

and he was like "yeah" ahskahdja I thought that was really funny

slams fists on table. i've got this hunter headcanon where they're actually the youngest of the slugcat lineup, even younger than survivor and monk. but they were engineered by nsh to grow Super Fast, and so they end up being the biggest slugcat (second only to the gourmand) which of course results in their turbo cancer. but they're still a slugpup, just in the body of this giant adult slugcat.

the confusion of a body that they don't understand, that they didn't have to chance to learn how to use and control before being thrust out into the world to save moon. the scars they collect over the cycles from clumsiness and mishaps. the extreme hunger caused by the rapid growth, leading them to a diet of primarily meat. perhaps nsh allowed enough time for hunter to learn how to fight so they don't immediately get eaten, but they're still just a slugpup, and it's a scary world out there...

the fear, the utter terror when their body starts revolting against them, just as they start to get comfortable in their own skin. losing their functions little by little at, chronologically, such a young age, and no one is there to help them through it. they're all by themself. godd.
