"Howdy, Trainer! Welcome to your first Cantessy League Gym Challenge! I'm Tomi, and I've been helping to raise Pokemon in these parts for a Stoutland's age, and my family's been doing the same at our ranch for generations. We take good care of our Pokemon here! Sure, they're your standard normal-types, but the normal ones often end up being the one that surprise you the most! Ready to see how many surprises we can bring?"

Alllll right! Time to start getting into Cantessy's Gym Leaders! And hoo boy, Cantessy has a LOT of Gym Leaders! Much like Unova and Galar, Cantessy's Gym Leader lineup changes depending on what hypothetical version the player would pick up. However, it's not just one Gym whose leader changes yet keeps the same type like in Black and White, nor two cities switching out Gym Leaders and type specialties per versions. Instead, EVERY Cantessy Gym Leader is version-dependent! That's right, Cantessy technically has 16 Gym Leaders! And when you make your way to Shelbyton, you'll find one of the first pair.

In Plow Version's Shelbyton Gym, you'll face off against Tomi, a ranch hand who specializes in normal-types. She's partial to dog-like and cow-like ones, and of course they raise a lot of Moofer, Tauros, and Miltank over at the Parr Family Ranch. Before you can fight her, though, you'll need to get through the Gym challenge alongside a rental non-battling Herdier. With this specially trained Herdier by your side, you'll be tasked with herding groups of Tauros and Miltank into their appropriate stalls and fight Gym trainers along the way as each properly herded group of Pokemon unlock gates to each section of the Gym in order to reach Tomi at the end.

Tomi's initial Gym battle comes after you've had quite a bit of time to train up, so her team's a bit higher leveled than most first Gym Leader teams. She has a Herdier at level 16, and then she'll follow it up with a Moofer at level 18. Shouldn't be too much of a challenge, given she's only the first Gym Leader and all. There is a bit of a battle gimmick that I'll explain later, but since you'll both have access to it that addition will just lead to some extra fun. :3c After becoming the Champion, you can rematch Tomi with a higher-leveled full team of six: Twitchail, Stantler, Muskrill, Stoutland, Tauros, and Miltank. Yeah, I added both to her postgame team just so I didn't have to stick a definitive gender on that initial Moofer XD

Since I’ve been thinking about Moofer a lot I’m gonna do hcs of what he’s like adjusting to being in Chaldea! 

Asterios

Despite your best efforts, when you first summon Asterios, he keeps to himself, and it’s pretty easy to since he’s got that bull mask on. If that doesn’t deter any over-friendly servants, growling or screaming at them usually does the trick.

He likes to raid the kitchen for anything sugary late at night. Mash catches him one time and he nearly jumped out of his skin. She told you about it, and you, accompanied by Euryale and Nursery Rhyme, made it your appointed task to get him to come out of his shell.

Bristles whenever you try to get close to him, even after you’ve ascended him and you’re able to look him in the eyes. So you place some candies down on the floor as a show of goodwill and wait. They’re usually gone by the time you come back from doing your business.

Euryale often comes to visit, lounging near Asterios and talking to him about this or that, trying to get him to relax. It’s strange being in a new place full of servants, and she’s the best way to get him to calm down.

He’ll start leaving candies out for you, too. You’ll flop down in bed and hear a crinkling sound. Lift your pillow to find a small pile of assorted candies, gathered from Romani’s personal stash. 

Eventually, he starts quietly replying to your questions and even asking his own, wondering how your day was and if you wanted to see the small garden Euryale told him about hidden away in Chaldea.

The day where he fully trusts you is still far away, of course. But with each day and each Singularity, the two of you grow closer. A Berserker he may be, but his heart is made of gold.

Been in a major WYS mood. Got a bottle baby moofer baby. Couldn't find a good H name I liked to go with my other two, Harley and Henry, so I branched out. Made it between Benny and Frankie as the two favorite names.

Well, went to go visit baby Benny tonight and he lifted his tail to show us his butthole, peed for two minutes straight at the same time, all while making THE most weird and intense eye contact ever🤦

when we learned i needed a service dog, my dad pressured me hard to train the family dog, molly moofers. papaya. dad. please understand. we call molly "molly moofers" for a reason. she is so, so cut out for being a family pet and so Not Cut Out for service dog work. when she sees another human or dog, she gets so excited that she practically starts levitating. she has the prey drive of 4 dogs. (lucie worked with me at the reptile rescue and did great ignoring free-roaming iguanas and tortoises). like now my dad understands why i had to get lucie but it took him like. years of seeing how lucie works and how molly just wouldn't do well at it. when strangers try to pet lucie, she'll neatly slide out from under their hand, side-eye them, and come sit on my feet while i ask them not to touch her. molly will start wagging when she sees somebody and not be able to hold herself back from going to say hi. she's far too friendly and not very handler-focused.

Moofer - Young Cow Pokemon - normal Dairy farmers are discouraged from raising female Moofer around large groups of Tauros, as it is believed that not only will the milk quality when they evolve into Miltank be lesser, they will also develop similarly violent tendencies. Trainers who enjoy aggressive battling may benefit from a Tauros-socialized Moofer, however. / The longer that male Moofer are allowed to remain alongside their mothers and other Miltank, more often than not they will have less violent tendencies once evolving into Tauros. This makes them more manageable both on the farm and on a Trainer’s team.

Time for more Cantessy Pokemon! Moofer here may look a little familiar to you guys, and that's because it's a baby form of both Tauros and Miltank! These previously known bovine Pokemon gain a nutritional boost from eating a regional type of grass called Azure Greens, and as a result this provides a boost to their babies so that they can afford to be born as Moofer and evolve later rather than be born as Tauros or Miltank directly. As you can probably expect, the male Moofer will evolve into Tauros, and the females will evolve into Miltank. Though they are still fairly viable in battle before evolution, at least for a while longer than a lot of early Pokemon might be. In fact, you might even see one on one of the first Gym Leaders' team...that depends on certain circumstances, of course. If you’re not already in the know from my character refs I posted a few month back, I'll explain why soon enough :3c

2020 Wrap-up pt1

This year I was 26 so I’m going to list 26 things I’m proud of this year! I have a tendency to think that I didn’t do anything this year, since I was stagnant for the first half and unemployed for the second, but I make my own meaning! I am not defined by my employment and I did do ~things~.

1) Exercised in public!! was “ugly” and it didn’t matter!! 2) Boxing studio! for an entire month! (then covid hit) 3) The most exercise I’ve done in a year. It didn’t reach the extravagant goals I set for myself, but was still as least double last year!! 4) Eroded my perception of myself as someone who doesn’t do physical things. I did barre, peloton, boxing, pole, yoga, danced around my house, and nothing in me was actually allergic to any of it. 5) Actually look forward to doing things! Found a yoga studio that I like, and hope to do 200hr training sometime, found out that I really like to watch pole dancing so hopefully can do that when things open up again, found an (entirely apia run) dancing app that I might try! 6) Practiced adapting routines for me, not try to stick w the vid just bc it’s the vid. (// Bitches Get Riches’ bit on running)

7) 70 day streak of duolingo French- quit bc I chose to, was turning more into a burden than a helpful push. 8) Watch an entire 50 ep tv show in an other language!!!!! 50!! 9) Mandarin turned from a guilt and shame-laden burden to an interesting thing that I can learn if I want!! 10) Leaned into finding my own way to learn instead of just the rote memorization every other teacher has forced me to do over the years. Learning Kangxi! Taking apart the words to see what each bit means! 11) Found a community of active learners, at various levels, willing to help and encourage each other!! Langblr and discord server 12) The most listening I’ve done since not living w my parents anymore, and subsequently, my best since not living w my parents anymore. 13) Learned lots abt modern Chinese culture!

14) Survived 6mos of unemployment w/o turning into a jelly melted onto my mattress!!! Of course I have my low moments, but I have gotten myself up and at ‘em for the most part, far exceeding my expectations!! 15) Broken that emotional dependence on fbook/ insta at all times. W/o actually deleting them, I have a much healthier relationship w/ them! I can actually interact w my friends and cat cafe fundraising page and not be sucked in automatically! 16) Really integrated self-care things into my normal life, and actively worked at figuring out how to do them for me. (aka learned how to be a normally functioning person more): exercising, meditation- different forms, consistently cooking veggie packed food at home/ found a meal prep way that fits me, going outside just to be outside, resting not stopping mindset, all things I had started in prev years but now more powerful.

17) Caring for my 16 yr old cat, and all that it entails. It’s often difficult to think how this is an accomplishment, rather than a given, but it actually does involve a lot. 18) Keeping his meds consistent for so long- 6x a day, 4 meds- 4 methods (2 twice a day) and coordinating w/ my partner on all things. 19) Caring for myself after Moofer’s passing last yr and limiting my preemptive grief for Jack. 20) Taking him outside so often! Esp for hrs and hrs during the summer.

22) “Housewife” job for half a year. There is honestly so much that goes into caring for a house all by myself, and I honestly did not do a v good job, but it is so much that I’m counting it. I did go up some on the steep learning curve, and have worked out systems on the most important stuff, so it’s still an accomplishment. 23) Became increasingly intentional abt where I source my food. Rather than just depending on Costco, I also bought from a rehab farm and the farmer’s market. 24) GRE!! I still need to retake it, but only a year ago I would have counted myself out before even trying. I got 97% on verbal, which I am quite proud of :) The % I got on quant I am not proud of, but I studied math for the first time since hs, a clear 8 years ago! I now also know what I need to do for my next test, and it is less scary. 25) I have grown and learned so much as a person these past 6mos. So much that I did not even know I had to learn, or see a way out of, I have now grown past and created a healthier stance on them. It wasn’t from books, like I have prev depended on, but mostly from sitting by myself and really turning over concepts that catch my attn in my mind. The process happened a lot more automatically than I was initially prepared for, but once I sensed it happening, I intentionally cleared out space for it and let it happen, even when the change was scary. 26) Cared for myself through the political trauma of the US’ reaction to covid and to police brutality. Since I live in Lansing, I knew there were many w/ guns etc. 15 min down the road from me at the capital, so that was scary! (Bonus: Survived months of a pandemic!)
