Open Gardens NYC: Saturday, June 1, 2024 Schedule

10:00am – 1:00pm: Ukelele Workshop The workshop is designed for adults and older kids who are keen to learn or already dabbling in playing the ukulele and would benefit from a supportive community.

10:00am – 1:00pm: Curbside Composting Info Expert garden member gives out flyers and provides guidance for the community at large on how to participate in the Curbside Composting program.

10:30am – 12pm: Let’s Write Together In this writing group, we will read some poems about the natural world and then write a response to them or from a suggestion offered by the group leader.

12pm – 1pm. Intro to Belly Dance/ShariQui Workout Kris Amez of Iris Goddess Dance will introduce Beginning Belly Dance and Intro to ShariQui Workout techniques.

1:00pm – 3:00pm: Pollinator Walkabout with the Flatbush Gardener Explore the garden’s plants and flowers, and learn how to see them in new ways with urban naturalist Chris Kreussling (aka the Flatbush Gardener). We'll "hunt" for pollinators, and other flower visitors, around the garden. As we try to identify them, we'll learn about the garden’s biodiversity and ecology.

3:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.: Music by Mostacho Xprmnt Mostacho Xprmnt is a Brooklyn-based jazz-fusion band. Bandleader Andrés Marín will be singing a mixture of stripped-down Mostacho originals and some covers alongside Dave Lowenthal and Jesse Fischer. Visit musicdribble.com/mostacho.

Mostacho Xprmnt featuring NJWA - Ocean

MostachoXprmnt joined forces with NJWA in order to release a stunning new single. The release is titled “Ocean,” and it has been recorded earlier, waiting for its release.

“Ocean” was ultimately completed on a cold winter day in Queens, NYC, during a session back in 2013.  This amazing track marks the start of a new chapter in the artist's career, and it is set to win over audiences far and wide. The track has a lot of energy to it, and more importantly, the artists involved captured a performance that is nothing short of awesome. Her vocal style is dynamic and vibrant, bringing so much focus to each line. It's not only about her singing ability but also about calibrating each verse with some amazing lyrics.

The song deals with discovering true love, but also pondering on the errors of the past. At the end of the day, we can find our way back home through love! The release also features an amazing artwork cover by Ylva Borg.

If you enjoy the sound of acts such as Hiatus Kaiyote, this track is definitely going to be right up your alley, not only incorporating Mostacho Xprmnt’s signature jazz fusion sound but also featuring R&B and electronic elements.

Clap With Me

In the beginning there are two claps.   The claps ground the light tapping of drum sticks. A guitar chord tentatively dances around the taps and claps, establishing a lighthearted funkiness to the song. Our track "Que Mae Mas Raro (El Mae)" was produced by 28 Lines, a Colombian based in Boston! It also features the vocals of #SongYiJeon who was the singer on the original #jazz #fusion #neosoul track.
