A school district in Texas banned Virginia’s state flag and seal, and this is how I pictured that conversation going in the WTTT universe.
v
Gov opened a new binder to begin the next portion of the meeting. “Moving on, we have a series of bans that need to be discussed. Texas, you may begin.”
“Nah, someone else can go first.” The Lone Star State anxiously shot a glance over to Virginia.
Massachusetts snorted. “Six flags doesn’t want to [speaks northeast] talk about himself for once?”
“Please continue, Texas. We have many more topics that we need to get through today.” Gov clicked out his pen.
“Uh…well…I’m banning Virginia’s flag.” Texas kept his eyes locked on his Buc-ee’s cup, not blinking. Gov clicked his pen back shut and promptly disconnected from the conversation.
“Excuse me?” Virginia paused his argument with Maryland and slowly turned his head to face him. His eyes were squinted in warning—daring Texas to go on.
“So that’s where Gov gets it from,” Connecticut murmured to Delaware.
The Lone Star State tipped the brim of his hat over his head, terrified to make eye contact. “It ain’t anything personal! It’s just that there’s…nudity on yer flag and I can’t let a bunch of—uh…third graders see that.”
The Old Dominion placed his palms flat on the table, left eye twitching. “Oh, and what kinda nudity did you see on my flag, exactly?”
“I don’t think we need all of the details!” He nervously laughed.
“No.” Virginia’s nails dug into the table, leaving what were sure to be permanent marks. “You’re gonna tell me what exactly was so offensive.”
Texas’s face turned a bright red as he mumbled something.
“What was that, sweetheart?” He raised a brow.
“There was frontal nudity…of y’know…” Texas made a vague gesture to his chest, looking about ready to die on the spot.
“Ewwww…” Florida groaned, leaning into Louisiana’s space. “Why were you peeping on Virginia’s breasts?”
“Wu-hat?! That’s not—” Horror bloomed across his face as Texas waved his arms in front of himself. “I wasn’t! I would never do that!”
“Oh really?” The chaos state squinted at his phone, which most likely had a picture of the ‘offending’ flag. “Because this thing is pretty small. You would have to reeeaaally strain your eyes to see it.”
“That’s not what I was saying at all! ‘Sides, I see Virginia as a more motherly figure anyhow, so that just ain’t—”
Florida interrupted him with a gag. “Egh! That’s even worse! It’s like that thing with the Editus guy.”
“Oedipus,” California corrected from the other side of the table with an eye roll.
“I’m not—that’s—are y’all…?” Texas stuttered his halfhearted defense.
“Texas?” He turned to The Old Dominion, veins freezing. Virginia flashed him a cold smile. “Meet me in my office after the meeting.”
The Lone Star State jumped up from the table and bolted out of the meeting room door, leaving all of his stuff behind. Gov blinked a few times, mentally rebooting. “Uh… Are there any more bans we would like to cover this week?”
“Yeah, I’m suing you.” California reached over the table to pass him a summons. “Your tariffs are hella threatening to my economy.”
The Fed glanced back and forth between California and the document, glare growing on his face. “The topic was bans, not lawsuits.”
The Golden State shrugged. “Well, then I’m banning you from creating tariffs.”
“Hey, [speaks northeast].” Massachusetts elbowed him. “If you need any help with that, I know about two thousand [speaks northeast] off law students who’d be willing to help you out.”
Florida gasped clapping his hands. “Loui! Cali and Masshole are going to go all Legally Blonde on their [technical glitch]! Quick, get the popcorn!”
“Already on it, sha.” Louisiana passed him a comically large popcorn bucket.

Jake would also be a great fit for the prompt I just sent you, I copy-pasted the prompt from my notes app prompts list and forgot to change the name.
part of my 500 follower celebration!!!
Never Letting Go
pairing: Jake Seresin x fem!reader
warnings: smut, MINORS DNI, 18+, angst, fluff, p in v sex, penetration sex, mentions of money, cowgirl/missionary, jake being in LOVE, me knowing nothing about the military
wc: 1.7k
a/n: ok i had so much fun writing this one so i hope you guys like it!!
prompt: you break up with Jake to try and make sure he doesn’t turn down the dagger squad’s permanent stationing in order to stay with you, and Jake is not having any of that and fucks you so well he shows you just how much he loves you and isn’t letting you go?
absolutely DO NOT steal my work and post it on other platforms. DO NOT feed my work to AI fuck that
Tumblr media
You and Jake have been together for almost 2 years. You met in your hometown of Dallas, Texas; you worked in an office in Dallas’s CBD and Jake was stationed just outside of Dallas.
The two of you had run into each other at the grocery store, Jake was fairly new to the area, having grown up in Austin, and he looked a little lost, so feeling pity on him, you decided to help him out. After the long - but not grueling - shopping trip, Jake offered to take you out and of course you accepted.
Ever since then you’ve been attached at the hip. Until now.
Only months ago, Jake was called back to Top Gun for a dangerous, top secret mission. And since his team’s performance during the mission was so high, the squad was offered a permanent spot as a special operations team at Top Gun Academy.
When he told you the news you couldn’t help but be ecstatic for him because you know he’s worked so incredibly hard for this.
You dwelled on the pros and cons of moving to California when you realized that you were only holding Jake back, there was no way that he would go without you but you couldn’t just pick up your entire life and move out to San Diego. I mean you have a job and a life here! Not to mention how expensive Cali is! You just didn’t want him to stay because of you.
There was no way in Hell that you would get between him and his job, so you made the toughest decision, probably of your entire life. You have to break up with him.
You made sure everything was ready by the time he got back to your shared apartment. Dinner was made, the space was cleaned, the table was set, and your head was a mess.
He greeted you with the most loving smile as he walked in the door, which only made a pit form in your stomach. How are you supposed to end things with the person you love most in the world?
Halfway through dinner you decided to start, “Jake, about your job,”
“Yeah, isn’t it amazing, baby?”
“It is so amazing and I am so happy for you because you deserve this more than anyone,” you trailed off and he picked up on your tone.
“But you don’t think I should take the offer?”
“No! No, that’s not it. I think you should take the offer. But I also think we should break up,” you whispered the last part into an almost silent room.
Jake dropped his fork immediately and froze, “Excuse me?”
“I think we should break up. I’m holding you back Jake, I don’t want to get in between you and what you love most,”
“Baby, you are what I love most,”
“Jake, please just listen. I love you so much and you know I only want the absolute best for you. And I think this is the best option for you, for us.”
Jake stood abruptly and paced around the small living room. He didn’t say a word.
“Please say something,” you stood closely behind him.
“We’re not breaking up,”
“You have to take this job, it’s everything you’ve been working up to and I am not going to be the one to hold you back and—“ he cut you off sharply with a kiss and mumbled into your mouth.
“I would never leave you,” he nipped at your jawline and the higher parts of your neck.
This could not be happening right now. This was not how this night was supposed to go, but you couldn’t stop a slight moan escaping from your lips. If you were going to leave him, you felt like you deserved one more time with him.
You pushed him away to hold his face. You looked into his eyes, then found his lips, and kissed them roughly, “Please Jake, I need you, one last time,”
That’s all he needed to hear and he had you in his arms, carrying you to your shared bedroom. He tossed you on the bed, practically ripping his shirt off, he hovered above you, taking your shirt and bra off next.
He sucked on your chest, leaving love bites on the very top of your breasts. “I’m going to fuck you stupid until you get this idea of you holding me back out of your head.”
He moved down to your shorts, pulling them off as quickly as possible, taking your underwear with them.
He kissed the insides of your thighs, making his was up to your core.
He removed his mouth and let two of his fingers press inside of you. He kissed up your stomach as he pumped his fingers deep inside of you and relished in the way you were almost incoherently moaning.
“Fuck, you’re so beautiful,” he held down your hips as he began to lightly suck on your clit. You couldn’t help but let out a pornographic moan.
You didn’t mean to feel the need to release so quickly but you couldn’t help it. You wanted every part of him and you didn’t want to leave him.
He quickened his pace causing you to scream out with pleasure. He pulled his fingers from you and sucked your juices off his hand.
He unbuckled his belt and yanked down his pants, pulling out his hard length. He teased your entrance with his cock, slapping the surface lightly. You were almost a whimpering mess underneath him.
He finally pushed into, both of you letting out a long noise of satisfaction. Jake murmured curses of pleasure under his breath and his thrusted into you.
He had you on your back, your legs on either side of him. He pulled your legs to wrap around his waist and thrusted into you harder.
Jake was now leaning completely over you, his hand on either sides of your breasts, him kissing down your neck, and his stupidly hot dog tags dangling over you as you practically screamed out for him.
He pulled back from your neck and started kissing down your chest again, loving the way your boobs moved as he fucked you into the mattress.
Your nails dig into his back as he starts thrusting at a faster pace.
“Fuck, baby, you’re so good for me,” God he may as well just get you pregnant at this point.
You started to feel a build in your stomach, again. You could tell he was close too because his thrusts started to falter.
He began to pull out to cum, when you tugged him closer to you, keeping him inside. He looked at you with a hunger as you both reached your climax, crying out profanities.
He hung his head low until flipping you over until you were sitting on top of him. He pushed himself up the bed, propping himself up, you still on top.
Holding down your hips, a firm grip on them, you began to bounce up and down on his cock. He finally speaks for the first time, rebounding from the babbling mess you had made of him earlier.
“Baby, I’m not leaving you here,”
You wrapped you arms around his neck for a steadier ride. “Jake-“
“I don’t care, I will turn it down,”
“Absolutely not,” you began to bob faster as you got more flustered, “I want you to go, Jake,”
“I want you to go with me, I thought that was a given,”
“But my job, we can’t afford for only one of us to work,”
He moved his hands up and down your torso, grabbing and squeezing at your tits.
“Yes we can, I have a trust fund, I’ll make sure you never work another day in you entire life. I’ll make you my wife so you can live on base. Or we don’t have to live on base, I’ll buy us a mansion and whatever you want in it.”
There was nothing hotter than seeing the man you love offer to take care of you for the rest of your lives. You want to be with him so bad.
You want every part of him. His highs, his lows, his good days, his awful days, you want it all and everything in between.
Hearing him coax you down from the ledge only made you want him more. Pushing you over the edge of another orgasm. He took you lips with his as you finished for the third time, him for the second.
You pulled away off of him and curled up by his side, resting your head on his chest. He wrapped his arm around your body and kissed your forehead gently, “I promise I’ll take care of you, baby. Don’t worry about any of this,”
“I want to go with you, Jake, if you’ll have me,”
“I want you more than anything on this entire planet, and don’t you doubt it for a second that I would never leave you,”
You pressed a chaste kiss to his jawline, whispering close to him, “I love you, Jake.”
He looked down at you with gentlest expression you’ve ever seen and kissed you again, “I love you and I’m never letting you go.”
It was time to start a new chapter with the love of your life, (and Jake was right, he did fuck you stupid until you dropped the idea of you burdening him and holding him back).

Driving Past Ghosts
The aftermath of Episode 15 for Evan Buckley
Read on AO3
-
At first, it felt as if everything had frozen, the world crawling forwards through tar and mortar. The days felt long, the nights even longer.
Bobby Nash died only a short three hours ago.
It felt like three lifetimes instead.
But everything was still as it had been, even after Bobby's body had been zipped up and wheeled away in a black bag.
Chimney still needed to quarantine and be watched over carefully at the hospital, as did Hen. Ravi and Buck escaping the most unscathed, at least physically.
Neither of them knew how to handle that.
The next days were almost suspended in time, for how far from reality they felt. Buck knew it was the grief. He knew they were all still processing. He saw the guilt that wrecked them all in different ways.
Maybe if my respirator hadn't been smashed.
Maybe if my lung hadn't collapsed.
Maybe if I had noticed the tear in his breather.
Maybe if I hadn't been locked out of the lab.
Maybe if we had been faster. Maybe if we noticed.
Maybe if I hadn't been in Texas.
Maybe, maybe, maybe.
The maybes were enough to haunt them, they did haunt them, but this wasn't something that any of them could put down. It wasn't something that Buck could put down.
He didn't think that it ever would be.
Not when they were all cleared and free from the various decomp stages they had to go through. Not when they were checked over and/or treated at the hospital. Not when they were allowed to go home. Not when they had to put freshly pressed dress uniforms on. Not when they walked in the funeral procession behind the engine.
Not when they had carried the weight of Bobby's coffin, shared between them.
Not when Bobby was gone, when he should be there with them still.
-
And then everything started moving faster.
Chimney was cleared after three weeks recovery. He took the bereavement leave time that was offered to their team.
Buck did the same, not even close to being able to face the firehouse without the rest of the team, without Bobby.
Hen was cleared after eight weeks, she too, took the leave time.
Ravi went back to work first, after his own bereavement leave.
He was followed by Chimney and then Hen.
It was Eddie, who came next. Buck didn't know how, he didn't have the space for it. But Eddie was back and so was Chris.
Athena hadn't gone back to work, not that Captain Maynard would have let her yet if she had tried. Instead, she turned her energy and grief to finishing off her and Bobby's house.
Buck helped her where he could, as did May and Harry. He threw himself into anything and everything that he could do to distract himself.
He didn't go back to work. Not yet.
It was a blur, but somehow he'd shifted things around at the house for Eddie and Chris’ return.
He helped during Chimney and Hen's recoveries. He cooked and dropped off freezer ready meals for everyone. He was everywhere and nowhere.
In a blink, six months had come and gone and Buck had yet to step foot into the firehouse.
Unable to put it off any longer and all of his built up leave time used up, he put a brave face on and showed up for the next shift, dressed in his uniform and his duffle bag in hand.
His resignation was put forward on Bobby's the captain's desk halfway through their twelve hours.
Buck loved his team, his family, but without Bobby?
Without Bobby there were no warm and comforting smells of spices and foods cooking between calls. No propped open office door, waiting and ready if anyone needed to talk. No steady and guiding presence as they set off on various calls.
Without Bobby, the station felt empty, something fundamental completely lost and missing in every sense.
He'd thought, briefly, of transferring but that felt worse than continuing on at the 118.
With a clenched jaw, Buck eyed the station bay and slipped quietly out to his truck.
He was gone before anyone noticed or could stop him.
-
A week later, he was at Athena and Bobby's door.
She took one look at him and lead him gently inside to the living room and down to sit on the couch, her smile wry and tired and knowing.
“They need me, but I can't be what he thought I could be. I'm so sorry, ‘Thena. I can't.”
Athena released a breath and Buck looked at her. The hurt in her eyes was as strong as if Bobby had breathed his last just minutes ago and he was flooded with guilt for coming to her door and putting this on her, too.
It must have been written across his face because all Athena did was shush him.
“You lost him too, Buck. You stepped up, you were here for all of us, most of all me. You helped me up and stood by me with May and Harry to finish my home.” She gestured around them, “You cooked for me, for all of us, and shouldered far more than you should have.
Bobby knew we would need you, and that you would need us in return. You gave us all the space to grieve and process without giving yourself the same.” Athena squeezed his hand between her's. “Part of me will never recover, but I will keep moving and keep living for him. For me. For all of us. It's your turn to live and grieve, now.”
Buck swallowed, closing his eyes against quickly welling tears. “I don't know how.”
Athena's hands gripped tighter and blinked at her.
“One day at a time. You take it one day at a time, from here with all of us or somewhere new and fresh. For a week, a month, a year. We do it for Bobby.”
-
Days later, Buck leaves Los Angeles.
He drives and drives and drives. He visits the same places he had before he'd found a home and family in LA. There's something both heavier and lighter about it all, than when he had passed through them all the first time.
He hikes in Yosemite. He visits the Portland Japanese Gardens in Oregon. Washington is his shortest stop, but he can't resist walking through the Smithsonian of Natural History.
He fields calls from Maddie, Eddie, Chris, Chimney, and Hen. Athena doesn't call but she texts him almost daily, as do May and Harry.
In Montana, he goes rafting in Yellowstone and meets up with an old friend from his ranch hand days.
He has his first home cooked meal since he left Los Angeles.
It leaves an ache in his chest because no matter what he eats, it will never taste like Bobby's food again.
-
It's not until Buck is through North Dakota and almost at the state border that he realises he's been moving towards Minnesota the whole time.
He hesitates but keeps driving forward, into Minnesota and continues on. He follows the Mississippe down until he sees the signs for St. Paul and has to pull over at the panic that grips his lungs like a vice.
On the side of a random road, Buck crashes to his knees and breaks.
He sobs and screams until he's left panting and sobbing, leant back against the side of his truck, gravel digging uncomfortably under his thighs.
He feels both worse and better after he calms down.
He gets back in the car and pulls it into drive. Streets, buildings, businesses, they all pass him by.
He wonders where Bobby had liked to eat, what street he grew up on before his family fell apart, whether the cinema he'd liked the popcorn of still existed.
He wished he'd asked Bobby more things, learned more about him. The smaller things of his past.
He wished Bobby was there to show him the places that had once been important to him. He wanted to find out where Bobby's first family was buried to pay his respects.
He kept driving until it was all a fading silhouette in his rear view mirror.
-
Buck dropped down through Nebraska and Colorado but it was too close to California.
It was too soon.
Four months had passed since he'd left, ten months since Bobby had died, and Buck turned around.
He cut straight through state after state until he hit North Carolina and then he was back in Pennsylvania where everything had started.
Drifting through to Hershey was an equally subconscious and conscious choice. He didn't stop there, either, driving past the house that Maddie had raised him in and onwards until he was out of the state again.
His truck broke down in New York. He fixed it himself, pulling on the years he'd spent learning how to repair the jeep he'd first left in.
He got to Maine and very nearly carried on all the way over into Canada but he stopped.
Buck sat in his car, parked at an outlook at the shore, the space so cramped and constricting, and it felt as if everything drained out of him.
He was never going to outrun it. The grief, the memories, the sadness.
It was too much, and yet at the same time far too little. For how could a man like Bobby Nash be constricted to just grief and sadness, to loss and a ghost haunting memories?
Athena's words from those months ago flashed to mind and he wondered when he'd twisted this trip of learning to live into some form of running to escape everything.
Probably right around the time he hadn't been able to face setting foot in Los Angeles again.
Stepping out the car, he let the salty smell of the North Atlantic greet him. He moves forward and rests his arms on the barrier at the edge of the outlook and just stares out at the endless ocean.
Buck knows, logically, that it's not endless. There are lands and countries far beyond his view, far beyond his reach. A look at any map or satellite imaging shows him that.
But he can't see it. It's all so vast and empty and it's a terrible echo of the space in his chest that has belonged to Bobby for so long.
It's an ocean of hurt that he will never be able to cross. A sea of tides that ebb and flow, that will continue to do so for as long as Buck breathes.
And Bobby will be with him in just the same way. Some days will suck so bad, the grief and ache enough to cripple. Others, he will be able to walk along at the edge of the receding tides.
Evan Buckley will survive the death of Bobby Nash, but he will never get over it.

hi your lifestyle?? is literally so inspiring can i ask like. how did y'all do all that...
ok but more specifically i guess how long did it take you to work/get the funds to 1. buy a house(?) rescue space? and upkeep everything?
sorry if this is a repeat question you get a lot!
asgkdlhadsg this is incredibly sweet thank you TT to be totally honest with you, we're still figuring stuff out on the daily / weekly / monthly! we've been individually self-employed & selling at cons for over ten years now & being partners has exponentially made things easier alongside having (somewhat?) supportive parents. i don't think either of us could grow to the level we're at now and handle everything we're handling on our own! we would definitely need an employee or something, LOL. we feel so lucky to have been able to find each other, since so many of the things we love are aligned -- conventions / artist alley / making merch / media we like & how we consume it, rescue, etc.! UHHH THIS CAME OUT a way longer response than i meant it to so more below the cut
even now, i wouldn't say we're at a place where we're 100%. this past year we've been able to make huge strides in paying off debt that we accrued through covid & originally moving into this house -- our credit scores are finally starting to recover. as for the house itself, we were living together with jasmin's family for a while & just using the money we made to remodel different parts of the house bit by bit because it was really falling apart -- we cleaned and gutted so much of it, haha. our merch barely fit. summers were dreadful without central ac in the office. but we had our own little place and her family was okay with us fostering. it let us get our foot in the door, volunteering with different rescues, learning more about TNR, and saving lives in our area. we learned a lot and ultimately, that's kind of how it still is, even if we've upgraded these days. my (andie) parent's were sent to work in europe but weren't ready to sell their current house, so they basically gave it to us to live in as property managers here in tx. we would take care of the house, pay a smaller portion of the mortgage, & move out when they came back. texas is a lot more affordable, especially our city, and we're both really fond of san antonio, the people, the culture, food, etc. i lived here for a few years when i was younger, a few years before i moved in with jas, and jas used to fly back and forth to visit. it was already a second home, so it was kind of perfect. it's sort of the issue we're running into now, haha. my parents will be moving back this summer & we need to find a place since we now have so many fosters & the rescue / our home & business has grown so much. we can't stay in an apartment, but don't have enough to get our dream house yet, so the biggest likelihood is that we'll get a place we aren't too attached to and work to getting our dream place. or maybe buy this off my parents? there are so many messy options atm, sorry for rambling LOL for ex: this house is historic, property taxes have jumped up the last few years, but we might be able to get exempt because of the non-profit. because my family isn't actually planning to retire here long term, there might be an opportunity to keep this place, because the home we have now is soooo not affordable to purchase anymore (but was, years ago) we'd love to keep it, tbh. our income is definitely more than it ever has been, but it's still 'average' i'd say, split between two people and the rescue. we've been really lucky with the circumstances we've been given & not everything's perfect but!! we're still figuring stuff out every day HAHA. constantly thinking about the long term even though things are always changing as for upkeep, man............ with the fosters, it's basically like running a zoo, haha. we're in a constant routine of buying / getting huge amounts of litter, food, etc. transporting cats, traps, medicating anyone who needs it, cleaning poop, pee, vomit. taking care of babies, not sleeping because they gotta eat every few hours or there's a health scare / emergency. handling people in our community who reach out to us for help.
most of the staff at our humane society & veterinarian are pretty familiar with us because of how often we go.
being a team of two makes a world of a difference -- ex. jas doesn't like putting away dishes, so she washes & i put them away. when a kitty is sick, she stays home & i go to con. we worked nearly 20 cons a year for several years together. handling manufacturers, new products, different store fronts, emails, taxes, socials, loss. new ideas! we always talk through disagreements because we're in this together. it's not just about us either, it's about the cats, the rescue, the community, etc. jas is way better at talking to people in person than i am while i tend to handle all the online / email stuff. we've just really learned how we fit together over the years and we're always improving or making mistakes and learning. SO TLDR; LOTS OF TIME, EXPERIENCE, MISTAKES, TRAVEL, TALKING TO PEOPLE, LEARNING, EXPLORING NEW THINGS, DECIDING WHAT WE LIKE / DON'T LIKE, TALKING, BOUNCING IDEAS. nothing happens overnight and ofc there are always those times where we sit and just kind of mourn that we aren't exactly where we want to be, but like?? it's abt the process. the goals. there are joys every step of the way and obstacles, ofc, but! nothing happens overnight and breaking things into steps / small accomplishments really helps you enjoy the more i think!
idk I'm sorry LOL this journey is still ongoing and has had so much pain and tears along the way but also lots of positives & happy moments.

The drive in Officer Liang’s car was long and silent, and it quickly became too dark outside to watch the scenery through the windows. Cody almost fell asleep–the only thing that kept him from it was being trapped between Friday and John in the backseat. The only comfortable way to sleep was by resting his head against John, and with how weird John had been on the train…maybe they weren’t there yet.
The car jostled its way over a pothole in the road, the unexpected bounce sending Friday, Cody and John knocking into each other.
“Sorry,” Officer Liang said, sounding embarrassed.
Cody leaned forward to peer out the window and saw that a building had risen out of the fog ahead. Some of its windows were lit, but not enough to fully understand the shape of the place. It seemed sprawling in a way he couldn’t comprehend, even more so when Officer Liang stopped the car just inside the yawning mouth of what had to be a gate. She rolled down the window and exchanged a few words with another guard standing nearby, then threw the car into gear again and kept going.
“You know, not a lot of people get to stay at the palace,” Officer Liang remarked. When no one answered her, she filled the silence herself. “It’s got loads of rooms, though. Not all bedrooms. But still a lot of bedrooms. You’re staying near the queen’s rooms, lucky you.”
While she talked, the car passed through a second gate, and finally pulled to a stop just inside a third. Officer Liang unbuckled her seatbelt and got out, letting the engine idle. Everyone else followed her example, Cody sliding out of the car just behind John.
The gate opened up onto a courtyard that probably looked better in warm weather. Most of the space was taken up by an enormous fountain that no longer had water in it, and was now an empty basin filled with slushy, melting piles of snow. The grass around the fountain looked nearly dead; Cody tested it under the sole of his shoe and was surprised to find it crunchy with frost.
The courtyard was flanked on three sides by covered walkways, as well as doors that led inside the enormous, segmented building that now surrounded Cody and the others. The only real exit was back through the three gates the car had come through, past the guards no doubt stationed and waiting in the shadows. The whole place was a trap closing in on them.
“I’ll help carry your things upstairs,” Officer Liang said, without being asked. She had already popped the trunk open and was gathering suitcases into her arms. No one moved to stop her–only when it looked like she might struggle to see past the stack of luggage did Val reach out to take one of the bags from her.
“Thank you,” she said, with some relief. It was strange that no other guards or staff were around to help her; maybe it was too late at night, or she’d told them to back off at the first gate. “Uh, I’ll just–”
She gestured at one of the doorways into the large building, and set off, clearly expecting to be followed. Cody exchanged a look with John, and saw Friday doing the same with Val out of the corner of his eye. What choice did they have?
*
Despite himself, Cody slept well. He’d thought that having a bedroom to himself for the first time since New Orleans would make him too jumpy to sleep, but between what had happened on the Demeter and spending all day moving from jail to jail, he was exhausted. He passed out as soon as he was lying down.
Officer Liang woke him, John, Val, and Friday up the next morning with a sharp knock on the door, waiting patiently for them to be dressed and ready before escorting them to breakfast. This, at least, was familiar territory–the large dining hall with furniture that looked inappropriately expensive reminded Cody of eating breakfast at Texas Waters. The Queen was just another rich person, after all, and most rich people were the same when it came down to it. They liked showing off their money in the same, tacky ways.
“When do we get to see the Queen, Officer?” Friday asked, picking at the sausages on her plate. The only other people in the dining hall were other palace guards, who came and went in boisterous groups and didn’t seem to pay any mind to the strangers in their midst.
“Ah–I wish you’d call me Claire,” Officer Liang said, rubbing the back of her neck a little sheepishly. “I’m supposed to take you to Her Majesty’s drawing room once you’re done here. But, you know, take your time.”
Cody wasn’t sure it was a good idea to keep a queen waiting. Everyone else seemed to agree. They mutually finished their breakfasts over the next few minutes, leaving empty plates on the table to be cleared away as they once again followed Officer Liang–Claire–to another part of the palace.
The whole, segmented building was the palace, Cody had learned from Claire over breakfast. He’d gotten his first look at the place in broad daylight this morning, looking out his bedroom window, and he still found it hard to comprehend why anyone would want to live in a place so large. Maybe if you were housing a lot of folks, like the convent in New Orleans. But as far as he could tell, the only people who lived here were the Queen and her guards. It felt like a place where you could go days without seeing another human being.
“Here we are,” Claire said brightly, leading the group through an open doorway. “Queen’s office. I’ll just, ah, wait outside.”
She left, nudging the door shut behind her. Cody barely noticed; he was busy taking in the room she’d left them in. The walls were high and covered in old paintings, so old they’d taken on significant water damage. Even the ceiling was painted, a scene filled with angels whose faces were flaking off and spiderwebbed with cracks and rot. Next to him, Cody could see Val gawking up at it.
Most of the room itself was taken up by a large desk with an equally large chair behind it, in which sat the Queen. She was a pale woman with severe features and red hair scraped back into a bun at the back of her head. Her makeup was a shade too vibrant for her, giving the impression that she was perpetually flushed. She was surprisingly young, too–she couldn’t have been much older than Cody.
Spread out on the desk in front of her were the Hemisphere wanted posters for John, Cody, Val, and Friday.
“Take a seat,” the Queen said.
There were other chairs strewn almost haphazardly around the room. Cody sank into the nearest one, feeling winded–he hadn’t expected to be confronted with his wanted poster here, an entire ocean away. For one train ride, he’d been free. Was that really it?
“I have to admit, I’m a little baffled as to why the Dauphin would send a bunch of Americans to spy for him,” the Queen went on, once everyone was sitting. “It doesn’t seem like his style.”
“We’re not spying,” Cody protested.
“We’re trying to get–” Friday began, at the same time. They caught each others’ eye, and she nodded for him to go on instead of her.
“We were trying to get to Canada,” Cody said. “We ended up on a ship with the Dauphin and his friends, and didn’t know we were going to France instead. He, uh–Friday convinced him to help us get back on track, and he sent us with a letter for the regent, to get a ship to Canada.”
The Queen hummed as she took in the information, tapping a pen against the surface of her desk.
“Regrettably,” she said, “the regent is dead.”
“What?” Cody asked.
“He tried to kill my cousins–the young princes. He was discovered in the act and tried to flee,” the Queen explained. Her eyes flicked downwards, and a grimace crossed her face; apparently she found this distasteful to talk about. “The Palace Guard pursued him and killed him, but the princes were kidnapped in the confusion, and are presently missing. So you see why your letter of introduction may have raised a red flag.”
“Why’d he want to kill them?” Friday asked, her eyebrows furrowed.
The Queen shrugged. “I suppose he wanted to rule without opposition. Clearly that worked out well for him.”
“Will you get us a ship?” John asked. “Or will you turn us in to Hemisphere?”
Apparently he was finished beating around the bush; Cody couldn’t blame him. The wanted posters on the desk had been a nasty shock, and Cody could tell John had felt it, too–his knuckles were paper-white around the handle of his cane.
The Queen laughed. “You know, Claire told me you were a rude bunch, but I thought she was just being sensitive.”
“That’s not an answer,” Cody said.
“She wants something from us,” Val said, speaking for what might have been the first time that morning. “I thought that was obvious.” He leaned forwards, elbows propped on his knees, and there was something so sharp and Johannes-like in his expression that it threw Cody for a second. “What do you want that will get us a ship, Your Highness?”
“It’s simple, really,” the Queen said, and smiled thinly at the four of them. “I want you to help destroy a bit of the Underground, so I can get the regent’s sympathizers–the faction that took my cousins–out in the open. An easy task for a group of wanted criminals, as I figure it.”
“And if we don’t?” Val asked.
“Then you go back to jail,” the Queen said. “Indefinitely. Or I could execute you and mail your heads back to the States, but that would be awfully messy.”
Cody clenched his jaw, then forced himself to relax it. He didn’t trust the Queen at all–there was no way she was telling them the full story, but if the people she was sending them after really had kidnapped a couple of kids…
“We’ll get a ship to Canada?” he asked. “If we do this?”
“You’ll leave the same day, if you like,” the Queen said, waving the question away with the flick of her wrist.
Cody looked to John, who gave him a barely perceptible nod. Friday mimicked the gesture, and Val, at the end of the row of chairs, simply shrugged.
“Then we’re in,” Cody said. “Tell us what we have to do.”

Moving Update!
Well...
Not much of anything to add actually. Life's being a little difficult without health insurance, but we're making do. Currently trying to get the house cleaned up and ready for my metamour to visit in November, but I've been horribly sick for nearly 3 weeks, so that's slow going. Thankfully, finally, on the mend so I can get some stuff done.
Hey if you can't donate please share!
$0/$5000 reached
Goals for the week?
Clean the office
Clean the living spaces
Get started on the unpacking from our last move so we can repack only the stuff we actually want to move across country with
Earn that money (aka accept as money substituting jobs as my poor disabled body will allow)
Wish us luck! -Riven

Furnished Office Spaces: Are They Worth the Investment?
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
In today’s fast-moving business world, flexibility, speed, and professionalism are critical. Whether you're a freelancer, startup founder, or growing small business, choosing the right workspace can significantly impact your productivity and growth. Among the many options available today coworking spaces in Frisco, traditional leases, or sublets furnished office spaces stand out as a practical and efficient solution. But the question remains: Are they worth the investment?
Let’s break it down.
What Is a Furnished Office Space?
A furnished office space is a ready-to-use workplace that comes equipped with desks, chairs, meeting tables, internet connectivity, storage, and often utilities and amenities like coffee bars, printers, and break rooms. These spaces are typically part of executive suites, coworking spaces, or flexible office space setups, allowing businesses to move in and start working immediately without the hassle of setup and overhead costs.
The Hidden Costs of Unfurnished Spaces
On paper, an empty office suite might seem more affordable. But once you factor in:
Furniture procurement
IT setup and wiring
Internet and utilities
Cleaning services
Maintenance
Time lost in setup
The cost (in both money and time) can quickly balloon.
For small businesses in Frisco TX, especially startups and solo professionals, these hidden costs can eat into valuable capital and delay operations.
Benefits of Furnished Office Space
1. Instant Move-In & Productivity
With furnished office space in Frisco, you skip weeks of setup and can get straight to business. Whether it’s coworking space in Frisco TX or a private office rental, everything you need is already in place.
2. Professional Image
Appearances matter especially when meeting clients. A professional office suite in Frisco with clean, modern furnishings helps establish credibility and trust.
3. Cost Efficiency
You pay a single fee that often includes rent, furniture, internet, maintenance, and even meeting room access. This transparency helps with budgeting and eliminates unexpected expenses.
4. Scalability
As your team grows, shared office spaces in Frisco or executive suites in Frisco Texas allow you to upgrade without relocating. No need to refurnish every time you scale.
5. Flexible Lease Terms
Many coworking spaces in Frisco and flexible office spaces offer month-to-month or short-term leases, which is perfect for businesses that don’t want to be tied down.
Who Should Consider Furnished Office Spaces?
Startups and solopreneurs: Get a professional workspace without large capital investment.
Remote teams: Need a physical hub for occasional meetings or hybrid work.
Consultants and freelancers: Impress clients with access to meeting rooms and office amenities.
Small businesses: Looking to lease office space in Frisco without long-term risk.
