Movement - Rough Animation

I really wanted to try animate one of my scenes which I storyboarded during the Animation Elective.

I went with the simplest scene since I don't have a lot of time left and I'm unsure if I'll be able to fully finish it.

It definitely doesn't encapsulate what my project is about but it was just a fun experiment.

Personal statement.

As an overall, I quite enjoyed testing out the different elective choices with a corresponding theme or heading to understand and test using them towards a specific purpose

Even as a bED student knowing already what I’m going into, it was enjoyable to get an insight into what other careers can prosper from within the college and even gives you a chance to be 100% confident in what you’re going into and if that’s what you fully want to do during the rest of your time in the college.

Personally I feel I could have and should have had a lot more to add to my movement project as a whole, with some personal issues replacing the lost time I missed out on some weeks in the studios but still am happy with the way some of the pieces came out and enjoyed the tips and knowledge I did gain while being in the studios.

My Personal favourite elective in which I done was painting as I found it easier to be able to depict more pure emotions that I wanted to show through my project heading of “movement between two homes”

I created six quick sketches of some ideas and i asked my classmates to choose their favorites.

The top choices were the bandied, the cup, and the broken skateboard. I made sure my icons were less sketchy and more lined/

Fashion Elective | week 5.

Continuing to work with my swatches I progressed to working on the clothing mannequins.

I continued to place my swatches on the mannequin on Thursday. I have taken inspiration as a result of seeing them in place and visualising a final piece.

I find Fashion design interesting from the perspective of textile creation and manipulation using the form of the body as an architectural form to drape from. It appeals to my interest in geometry and space.

Inflatables Workshop - Sculpture

This was my first experience in the sculpture workshop this year and I did not expect to enjoy it as much as I did. It allowed us all to work on different ideas and bring them to life in a 3D method.

For my project I am focusing on the elements and the movement within them. Over the last couple of weeks I have started to focus more on the element Earth. So when going into this workshop I had the idea of creating something that had an organic type of shape.

My idea started with the idea of the movement of branches. So I cut up my plastic into different sections that differed in shape and size, not one piece was the same. I did not use a measure to cut the plastic as to allow as much organic shape to occur.

To connect all the pieces I used the heat gun mostly and then also some sellotape to connect parts that were difficult to secure or that became visible after air was applied. 

After I connected all the pieces I used the pump to see if there was any holes and I patched up any areas that were causing issue. 

In the end the piece did not turn out like I expected but at the same time I did not hate how it turned out. I found that each time it was blown up it gave off a different shape and effect, below I have placed to images of when it was blown up. The first almost looks like a person with their arms crossed above their head, while the other has a more hand or tree look to it.

After we all had our pieces finished we attached them to a large tube like piece so that air could be blown into all of our pieces at the same time. This did not work as well as we had hoped. There did not seem to be enough air pressure in the machine to give enough boost to all the pieces at the same time.

Overall it worked better than expected and in a more unusual way than I was prepared for.

Experimenting with composition and colour. These are some of the most chaotic photos that i got (that were in frame) and i wanted to see what type of movement could be comunicated by putting them together, and i picked the secondary colours of the RGB colour palett due to us being more familiar with the primary colours of the RGB colour palett - hoping that this may add to communicating chaos.

This is a movement project done for Stony Brook University (2014) when I was a dance minor. We were asked to create five freestyle/ free movement videos in five different locations. This was done over the course of three weeks. In this video I was on campus in the main entrance of one of the Stellar Center. Enjoy!

Movement - Painting

I wanted to capture the essence of a stain glass window and though I think I slightly managed to do that, I could've added more.

I do find it hard to concentrate on small details, which I think hinders my abilities a lot of the time, but Im very happy with how this painting turned out nonetheless.

I wanted this piece to show how plants grow towards the sun and usually recline or close when not in sunlight.

Fashion design

Started playing around with some sketches to bring ideas that correspond to my topic and came up with an interesting concept of a road line themed cross-body bag

The road lines between the two houses within my project are corresponded to the design and pattern which is seen on the bag concept

Resembles with myself as I always leave the house with some sort of a bag or extra pocket to throw my loose objects into to avoid loosing them and figured this bag itself is not only convenient but quite fashionable

Graphic Design brainstorming

When I was trying to come up with some more creative ideas i drew inspiration from my own life. A few summers ago i fell off of my skateboard and got a black eye. This section of my project is based off of that.

Week 2 Sculpture Elective

Attempting my first draft at the “Chain reaction “ movement brief.

I will need to rework my ideas , this was not a task I completed in a day. I didn’t manage to get my ball to roll down the ramp successfully consistently.

This task was not something I felt anyway comfortable with, it was hard to keep it simple as many moving parts are required within a small scale and a short time to design.

Back to the drawing board with this one.

Movement Project - Idea Building

While I was brainstorming ideas for my project I found myself thinking of each element in 2 ways. One being harmful or disastrous and the Second being calming and helpful. I found myself wanting to portray both sides of the element. 

At first I was struggling to see how to portray this within one piece as I did not want a different piece for each. I then remembered the old billboards that I would see when in Dublin that would change from one image to another.  This was before the all went digital and a slideshow could be used instead it was a mechanical change. One image was on one side of a board and another on the flip side, so each time the boards were changed you got to see a different advertisement. 

There were also ones that did not have a mechanical change but had it that with the angle to boards were aimed at and the way you looked at them from certain angles would show you a different image. I completed an example of this above with the paper, by folding it into sections. Once looked at from one angle the image is a brown colour, and the other angle the background is a blue colour.

-using light and a double pendulum to study movement- 

These are three of my favourite ‘loops’ made by the pendulum, each one is unique but there are similar repitions as the pendulum begins to loose momentum towards the end. A double pendulum is usually the main example of a chaotic system (although my pendulum had many faults), some patterns can emerge over time.
