Old-school Megami Tensei x Mr Driller thing, inspired when I realized both were published by Namco. Around Halloween, Drill Land's Horror Night House pulls out all the stops to make it extra spooky, even bringing in the huge spider demon Arachne to help with the atmosphere~ 🕸️

Super Heavyweight God Gravion Side Story

G's Tragedy

Episode 1

As a supplement to my Gravion fansub remaster I decided to transcribe the short stories from the ADV release of season 1. The scans of the short stories from the booklets that I made have some errors in terminology that I cant fix, since they're scans. I decided to, with my transcriptions, fix the errors. Please enjoy.

Night, the Gran Diva hanger. The maintinenace maids are maintaining the craft.

"The Gran Fortress doesn't have enough munitions! Put plenty more into it!"

The one holding a megaphone in one hand and giving orders to her subordinates is the maintinance foreman, Thoria.

"If the Gran Fortress doesn't move, we cant transport Gran Kaiser and G-Driller! Don't be half-assed with the maintenance!"

"Roger!" says the loyal maintenance crew, in unison. The Gran Fortress is a giant transporter, which transports the Gran Kaiser and Gran Diva aircraft. It also has underwater capabilities and if the Gran Kaiser or a Gran Diva falls into the ocean during battle, it can navigate underwater and retrieve them.

Suddenly, "Eeeeeeeek!"

There is a shriek from one corner of the hanger. Thoria and the other maids run towards that direction, together.

"What's the matter Margrit?"

The one who shrieked is Shuzette, an agent-maid who infiltrated the Martian natural resource mining base. When Mars was attacked by the Zeravire, she aided the people on base and has since returned to Earth. Just like the infiltration maids of other planets, she has been incorporated into the maintenance division.

"Tu… Tuile! Tu…. Tuile's," says Shuzette as she trembles and points at the G-Attacker's cockpit.

"Tuile!," shout the maids in unison. Inside the close canopy is Tuile, who can be seen wearing nothing but her underwear. She is a maid with blue hair, who acts as an operator with the red-headed Tessera and the black-haired Marinia. Tuile's eyes are open but staring blankly, and she is not moving at all. The floor is wet and soaked red. Thoria opens the cockpit with the master key she has around her neck.

"Tuile!"

Thoria jumps into the cockpit and shakes Tuile. However, Tuile is limp and wont move at all. At that moment, one maid shouts, "Mr. Eiji," as though she has just realized something. Eiji is collapsed, lying in the seat's shadow.

"Ugh…"

Eiji grunts as though he was half asleep and wakes himself up. He then notices Thoria and the others and looks at everyone with a relaxed expression on his face.

"Huh? What's everyone doing?"

"Mr. Eiji, what's the meaning of this?" asks Thoria with a stern look on her face.

"What's the meaning of what?" asks Eiji, dumbfounded. Thoria points to Tuile.

"What? Tu…. Tuile? What's the matter? Are you injured?"

"The cockpit was locked from the inside. The only ones inside were Tuile, and you, Mr. Eiji. Could you have possibly done this to her?"

"Don't be ridiculous! Why would i do something like this?"

"Then how do you explain these circumstances?"

Eiji is cornered and approached. He loses his balance and says, "Whoa, whoa whoa whoa!"

Crash! He falls from the open canopy and onto the floor. The maids surrounding the craft instinctively back away. Behind Thoria, there is one maid who is checking for Tuile's pulse by holding her wrist.

"There's no pulse!"

The maids gasp. Eiji, while still sitting on the floor, looks around dazed and confused.

"Everyone, surround Mr. Eiji!"

Upon Thoria's command, the maintenance maids form a circle and try to surround Eiji.

"You gotta be kidding me! I'm innocent!"

Eiji runs off as though stuck, and then jumps inside an apple-shaped chute located at a hanger wall. It is one of many passages used for emergencies, located all over the castle. However, they are so complicated, not even the maids have a grasp over which hole goes where. If he escapes here, then pursuing him becomes a virtually impossible task.

"Contact Security Division Chief, Cookie! Then report to Master Sandman," shouts Thoria.The hanger, at night, is suddenly surrounded by air full of Tension. Several maids are tending to Tuile. However, like before, Tuile is limp and does not move.

After hearing the report from Thoria and the others, Sandman's facial expression stiffens up.

"So, how is Tuile doing?"

"We transported her into the medical room. I think we'll have a report soon," answers Thoria, with a nervous expression on her face. This is Sandman's private room. Raven has run over to it already.

"Hasn't Eiji been found yet?"

The one who answers is Cookie, the head of the security division.

"Members of the security are all searching for him. However, Mr. Eiji is very good at escaping, so whether we can find him is an issue…"

Sandman replies, "Keep looking for him. From now on, we'll use the command room as the investigative headquarters. Raven, summon Tessera and Marinia."

"What about the Gran Knights?"

"Don't tell them yet. Until we understand the incident in it's entirety, it's best not to magnify the commotion."

"Understood."

Noticing the presence of someone, Leele sits up ontop of her bed. She says, "Who's there?"

Even Lolotte, who is sleeping next to the pillow, lifts her head.

"Shhhh! It's me. Me," says the shadow with a whisper full of modesty, as he quietly closes the door behind him.

"Eiji?"

It is Eiji's face, a familiar face illuminated by the moonlight. As Leele puts on a gown and gets off the bed, Eiji puts his hands together as though he is apologizing. He seems to be rattled.

"Sorry for waking you up from your sleep. Harbor me for a while. Theyre after me."

"Harbor you… Did you try to sneak into the North Tower again and get spotted?"

"No. The North Tower has tight security, so I can't go near it."

"Then did you sneak into the kitchen for a snack, and now Cookie's chasing after you?"

"That's not it! Well, even I don't know what's going on."

Eiji explains the situation with a shocked expression on his face.

"A little while ago, i was practicing piloting the G-Attacker. Since I was worried about only training in a simulator, I was using the real thing. Eventually, I fell asleep. When I woke up, the girls in the maintenance vision were staring at me with a fearful look. Then I wondered what was going on…"

Inside the cockpit, Tuile had collapsed and had no pulse. The hatch was locked from inside, so it was a closed room. It was a situation where the only possible culprit was Eiji.

"She didnt have a pulse? Then that means Tuile's…"

"I'm worried too. Anyway, I wonder why Tuile was collapsed wearing nothing but her underwear," Eiji says, as he realizes something.

"Say, Leele. You're not doubting me, are you?"

Leeme smiles in the moonlight.

"It's all right. You're always angry, but you're really a nice person."

That was a line said by Toga when Eiji first visited the South Tower for the first time. Eiji forces himself to laugh.

"Whenever I come here, I'm always surprising you. Sorry, Leele."

"No. That night, if you and Toga hadn't come here, I'd probably still be alone in this room. Of course, I have Lolotte, and Mr. Sandman does come see how I am once a day, but…"

Eiji looks around Leele's room again. A dumbwaiter, which transports Meals and clothing. A door leading to the bathroom. This is certainly a place a personal can live in without having to see anybody. In reality, this is exactly how Leele lived for several months.

"Mr. Sandman has always been worried about me. He said living alone might not be a good thing. If there was an opportunity, he seemed to want to introduce you and the others to me, but I didnt have any courage…"

"So what? We were able to become friends now, and Lolotte too. Right?"

When Eiji says that, Lolotte squeals as though replying. Eiji and Leele look at one another's faces and laugh.

"Eiji, what are you going to do?"

"I'm going to look gof rht real culprit. Running away forever doesn't suit me. It's about time I made a counterattack."

Leele quietly says, "You're strong. I'd like to follow your example," though she isn't saying this to anyone but herself.

"Huh? Did you say something?

"No. Do your best. I believe in your innocence."

"Yeah. Thanks, Leele!"

What's going on? It sure is - Arcade Edition

I took photos of my what the cat plush at local arcades where I lived before moving. Here are those:

The critter in my purse on the way to meow's first arcade visit. Love the way its little eyes are peeking out :3

I ended up replacing this purse a month or so after with a canvas purse. It tore a hole, and I decided it wasn't worth replacing with another crappy nylon one.

A visit to Groove Coaster (I think it was 4) before the servers shut off. Rest in peace, pal.

I'm not very good at this game, but I figured meow should visit a bullet hell for enrichment.

Ah yes, meow visits the land from which meow's friend Jonathan originated. (also this was my first time playing PIU, hence, why I can't handle a 4) (I mean I still can't now, but that's not the point SHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH)

Then came later trips, to the same arcade.

meow looks content, perhaps Exceed Gear reminds meow of a similarly-named weapon style in a certain NOISZ arcade port... who's to say?

A little spot just for meow to rest.

Looks like Sumire and Hitori aren't the only phoenixes meow has gotten to meet, after this.

My last visit, which was to a different arcade than the previous ones. It's farther away, but generally has a better selection (important to me is maimai and Taiko no Tatsujin). Also, there's local server support for WACCA Reverse, which was great to use. The save data even carried over to where I moved, so that was good to find out (I didn't know how that worked at the time)

I got very lucky with Puyo Puyo Fever being brought back onto the arcade floor during my last visit before moving. The presence of this game is what caused me to discover the wonderful local arcade that housed it. I even wrote a paper for high school about the joyous experience of going to what felt like gamer heaven for the very first time. It's so fitting my last time here mirrored my first time, in that way.

What also got to see I believe Mr. Driller G, which was very cool. I'm bad at this game, but I had fun anyway. Getting to see this and play it was exciting in of itself. I really need to get Mr. Driller Drill Land for my Switch one of these days.

Vivid Wave was fun, although as a newbie with no e-amuse card, I generally didn't notice any significant difference between this and Exceed Gear. Still, was fun.

Funny thing is that I believe I knew from hearsay that MARENOL was in vivid/stasis as some sort of secret boss but hadn't unlocked it myself (based on my achievements timestamps).

That final visit is special to me, not only because of how much mental real estate this arcade has taken up for me over the years but also my first time playing an arcade rhythm game with other people. Two friends (or perhaps a couple? Idk) were playing maimai FiNALE and played with me, and I had fun even if it was awkward as hell ahaha.

It was a good note to leave my home state on and begin the next chapter of my life.

Flaming Fountain at Colfax

Flanking the steps leading up to the Grant Parish Courthouse in the town of Colfax is a circular planter filled with rangy shrubs. You wouldn't know by looking at it today, but this modest concrete container was one of the Louisiana's great natural wonders for more than forty years. Once called the Colfax Miracle, and known locally as the Burning Well, it was a deep bore with a colorful history.

In 1899, the town of Colfax hired the Hart Well Company of Plaquemine to search for an alternative freshwater source to the nearby Red River. Drilling began in March of that year; and by June, they had sunk the second deepest well in the state and were piping water from a depth of 1,103 feet at enough pressure to shoot 60 feet in the air. Water surged upward at an estimated rate of fifty thousand gallons a day, but unfortunately it was too salty to use for farm irrigation and unsuitable for human consumption. It was also soon discovered that the water was impregnated with methane and combustible hydrocarbons. Driller L. B. Hart learned this firsthand after volunteering to take a sip of the well water-his beard and eyebrows were singed off when his cigar accidentally ignited the flammable water.

Boosters of the expensive well project quickly attempted to spin the disappointing results, claiming that it was a blessing in disguise and that the pressurized water could be used to power water mills while the natural gas might be tapped to fuel a factory. Unfortunately, after the initial pent-up pressure subsided, the well's water flow wasn't continuous. Twice a month, the water and gas would roar out for a few days at a time before subsiding to barely a trickle. The great project's only real boom to the local economy turned out to be its role as a peculiar tourist attraction. As Grant Parish Planning Board Chairman G. C. Smith wrote in the late 1940s.

When the well comes in someone with a lighted match is never missen to set it on fire just to see it burn. . . . Especially during the late war maneuvers, did the well arouse a lot of wonderment and speculation from soldier boys who received their training in this section of the state. Many of these soldier boys told others about the burning well after they left for foreign service and a number of them have actually written back to have the tale verified by the local Post-Mistress, Mrs. Emma Straughan, thinking that they were being duped by such tales of a well whose waters burned as they flowed out into the basin that has been constructed to catch them.

By the 1960s, the novelty of the Colfax Miracle had worn off, and a growth industry in liability lawsuits suggested that a flaming fountain property wasn't such a good idea anymore. As Christmas presents suitable for kids transitioned from jackknives and shotguns to LEGOs and rubber dinosaurs, the architects of a kinder, gentler America capped off the old firewater wall, filled its basin with potting soil, and disguised the tired old miracle with ornamental shrubbery.

BOO it's another mr driller post. i wanted to compare the way the art style evolved between games, so here is this. i was originally just going to do this with taizo but decided it would be cooler to do the recurring playable characters + masuyo

(edited) credit note: i mistakenly attributed this to the wrong person, but some of the graphics used are official vectors from NOURS

i just want you guys to know that i had a tab open for each of the games in this chart while i worked on it (i had multiple for G since there's a mix of styles in there and i needed to verify it as much as possible). fuck man i'm so happy about this series. screw anyone who's annoyed about me posting about it, i'm having a great time
