a few random activity club character headcanons
Ed and Isabel share clothes sometimes. When you live in a house with a bunch of your grandfather’s pupils and only one washing machine, I imagine you don't get to do your laundry that often, so its easier combining your wardrobe with someone else. Both of them like similar styles of clothes, so that works out well for them.
This might be semi-canon, but Isaac is vegetarian (see him eating a salad in the BBQ art and other things I think probably). He doesn't particularly care about eating healthy or saving animals. The main reason he went vegetarian is because one of his favorite characters was one too.
Max has freckles from years of going to the skate park without any sunscreen.
When Isaac gets older, he’s going to look like naruto from naruto.
When Mr. Spender was a kid, he had a complete state coin collection. He really regrets not taking it with him when he moved out even though it collectively equates to like 13 dollars.
Some of these are probably out of character or have already been said by other people, but this is my truth.

Prompt: After becoming a spectral, Max is watching on of his old favorite movies with Zoey and notices something very distracting… There is a background character in the movie that he is super duper sure wasn’t there the last dozen times he’s watched this movie. After getting Zoey’s opinion on this mystery extra, his fears were confirmed. That person, was in-fact, a ghost.
Bonus: Mr. Spender shares a list of unwatchable shows/movies a couple of very dedicated spectrals (part of The Consortium’s Research Division) are compiling and trying their darnest to edit/create a filter to make possible to watch these shows/movies again.

Okay, but this sentence single-handedly summarizes Spender's personal issues with his own mentors and his problems taking care of the kids in his charge???? I never even realized this until now.
Spender was raised in a home that caused his parent-figure standards to be abysmally low - the bar to clear is "do you offer a single ounce of encouragement or verbal support?" His mentors, while not terrible teachers per se (Spender did receive actual training in certain spectral things), were often not emotionally present (Master Guerra, Boss Leader, Agent Walker) or if they were offering emotional support it often came with the added burden of "we unfortunately have bigger problems to contend with" (Burgers, Boss Leader). I'm not sure where Agent Summers falls on this scale (hopefully we'll find out). They aren't parent figures - they're adults who teach and their teaching role is put to the side when they have to deal with the bigger, scarier threats/personal problems in *Redacted*view.
As a consequence, Spender believes that most of his mentors did a good job being encouraging, inspiring teachers/parental figures when in reality they gave him bare minimum emotional support and Spender's low self esteem/family issues/spectral situation made him believe they were god-tier adults and good parental figures.
Fast-forward to the present and Spender is trying to be a fun, cool, encouraging mentor but has dubious role models that he's drawing inspiration from. The kids also have (somewhat) better opinions of themselves than Spender did at their age, so they're able to see lip-service mentoring (however well intended) for what it actually is. (This is also why Isabel seems the closest with Spender, not just because of their shared history, but because she also craves better parental figure support like Spender did when he was younger.) However, Spender fills a role that all of these kids need - none of their parents offer spectral support. Spender claims that he does and because of this he becomes another parental stand-in for all of them.
The tragedy is that Spender can't exactly help being a poor mentor/parent because he has no positive examples to draw from, but he is absolutely going to wreck his relationships with the Activity Club if he can't see his actions for what they are.

Richard Dorkstorme Spender uses his powers every time he would run into Penny by accident. Oh no, the sunlight just *happened* to be right in her eyes. The grocery store fluorescents just got weirdly bright. The shadows in this nook of the bookstore are just too dark to see properly into.
penny spender your brother is Not "on the other side of the planet" living in the lap of luxury he is a middle school teacher less than a mile from you and would have probably killed himself already by now if not for the atomic bomb that'd release. girl he is RIGHT THERE!!!

Jean Garcia: *flirting* Hey, handsome. What time do you plan on being done grieving? Mr. Spender: *also flirting* Oh, honestly, I was planning on reopening the same wounds again and again and again and again... Jean Garcia: I think we're doing this wrong.

"i coulda been a defendant" truly a wild episode in terms of fraser and loneliness. the instant connection he makes with bruce "used and betrayed by his brother" spender who is likewise on his own and unable to reach out (in his case literally as a protected witness), the fact that he gets thrown into the mud and covered in it (he gets dirty!!!!! he's been in dumpsters, he crawled out of a sewer one time, and the whole joke/metaphor is that this man never gets dirty but here!!!!!!!!!!!!!! he's absolutely covered in mud and rain), he loses the fight that's not even a proper fight and nearly dies and he would have if not for bruce turning a gun on his own brother????
bruce is the only one looking out for him and he's the only one looking out for bruce. they're both lonely and alone. this really was the episode that set the tone of the season for me (further hammered home by the mental health stuff and end of episode 4, and of course episode 6). benton fraser pulled into the mud and about to die

Prompt: The Bayview Biddleschool’s printer in the teacher’s lounge has been haunted ever since Mr. Richard Spender started working there. Whenever he tries to print out homework packets or worksheets, something always happens. Paper jam, Out of paper (even though he has just loaded the printer with new paper), random photos unrelated to that week’s topic appearing over the worksheets, streaks of ink, connectivity issues, and so many more problems.
Bonus: The printer spirit only hates Mr. Spender. Sometimes it will do things to spite the other teachers. Mr. Starchman is it’s favorite.

[ID: two drawings in a style imitating the art from the webcomic Paranatural. In the first, an adult Five is snuggling with Delores, who is a giant centipede-shaped spirit in this universe. The second is a bust of Five and Delores, several years in the past, when Five is a teenager. Delores looks mostly unchanged. Five is wearing a NASA t-shirt. End ID.]
bug wife cuddling. also, a baby! (hes (slightly) older than he is in the show lmao)
