I think, perhaps one of the funniest things to come from EPIC popularising the Odyssey is that now a ton of people think Poseidon wanted to kill Odysseus.

In the Odyssey, Poseidon has no intention of killing Odysseus. In fact, part of the whole reason Zeus lets Poseidon do whatever he wants even though he thinks Odysseus is rad and should get to kiss his wife is explicitly because Poseidon had no intentions of killing Odysseus. Poseidon wanted to pay back the suffering/inconvenience blinding Polyphemus would have caused. It's a really abstract thing tbh. How do you pay back someone permanently disabling your son? Poseidon's solution was just to amputate Odysseus from his other half; i.e. Penelope. The end game was never murder, it was always an endurance race.

Also, for those wondering if there's any sort of in text reason for why Poseidon wasn't around in God Games - at the time in the Odyssey when Athena petitions Zeus to let Odysseus leave Calypso's island, Poseidon was -checks notes- on vacation in Ethiopia. Yep. He left to Ethiopia for a festival and thusly was very much absent for Athena's whole "please let Ody go? Please? 🥺" request.

Going through the Wayback Machine archive of Merlin's Keep from the Far, Far, Away Site has me like yessssss everything's here with a little bit of fiddling sometimes when links changed numbers!

Wait, what? Oh there's 28 images missing from the HQ promo photos for S3Ep2? Oh well don't worry I found 10 of them (better quality than thumbnails but not the very high quality they would have been) between the wiki and the Merlin Gallery on the BBC website. The other 18? Uhhh, well rip to them they're just thumbnails now unless someone else had them backed up!

Anyway joking aside, I've got S1 and S2 left to do with their HQ and MQ promo shots, so here's to hoping that doesn't happen againnnn (I hope). It seems everything else on the site for episodes and deleted scenes were just screenshots so that's okay, and I'm not personally gonna back up the cast galleries that aren't connected to the show

Which looking at other parts of the archived Far, Far, Away Site there wasn't much backed up for a lot of it, like cast galleries, and Atlantis that I took a peek at

We're lucky so many Merlin fans went through and backed it up. The same dates keep cropping up so I presume each grouping is the same person but shouting out person/people from July 2013 and person/people from Nov 2015 in particular, especially Nov 2015, if it was all the same person, they carrieddddd for sure.

Kinda ended up screaming about backing things up in the tags, but I mean it, I keep learning this same lesson (annoyingly), if you don't back things up that you don't wanna lose, especially in a fandom as old as this one, it will be gone one day and there will be few ways to get it from there. And even if you can collect everything up, some things may be missing.

It's a shame but if you wanna keep it, back it up. And I really wish I had... and I'm sure we're all feeling that right now.

Excellent Pie Crust Recipe

ingredients:

4 C flour

1 T sugar

2 t salt

1 3/4 C shortening

1 egg

1 T white vinegar

1/2 C + 1 T chilled water

mix dry ingredients. cut in shortening using butter knives or forks until thoroughly mixed. mix wet ingredients, mix all together by hand. Makes 4 crusts, can be frozen for later use.

(when thawing, either leave in fridge over night or microwave for 15 seconds)
