Thoughts on Rebelcaptain & Velcinta: Jyn and Cinta would definitely be best buddies who look at people with their murderous eyes but are big softies with the ones they love. Cinta would tell Jyn the Cassian’s embarrassing stories like girl I can’t believe you’re in love with him and Jyn is like hahah girl me neither- WAIT NO NO NO I’M NOT IN LOVE WITH HIM!!! (the denial era) Meanwhile Vel and Cassian are the ones who try to look responsible and professional but have lots of private jokes between them (and of course Vel loves to tease him with the way he acts around Jyn like hey Cassian can you stop acting like a teenager in love for 1 minute and focus on the job please)

First off anon I am SO HAPPY you came to me with all of these thoughts. People reblogging my post with vigorous head-nodding about Rebelcaptain and VelCinta interactions has been the best. They all live and are happy because we said so, your honor. It’s making me think about the possibilities even more. (If I didn’t have writer’s block for the past year, I’d be writing fic about it, I know it!!!)

My favorite part of comparing these relationships is that they’re similar dynamics but different people.

Like yes Jyn and Cinta are the more obviously violent ones BUT they do it differently! Jyn has never met an explosion she doesn’t like to watch and also start. She CAN be quiet and lethal but that’s not always typical for a Rogue One mission lmao. Meanwhile, Cinta definitely learned the quickest, quietest ways to kill. (Even when those events have definitely impacted her psyche over the years, like the kill she makes in the season finale.)

Jyn will obnoxiously and loudly say I AM NOT IN LOVE WITH CASSIAN SHUT UP to cover her feelings while Cinta is just plainly like “Vel is the love of my life.” and then moves on like YES they’re bonding they’re dishing they’re braiding each other’s hair while discussing blaster models, it’s beautiful!!

Similarly what I cut out of that original post idea because I couldn’t phrase it in a simple way was that I think it would be very fun if, because of how Cassian barged into her life and mission, Vel is competitive as hell with him.

She spent YEARS flitting in and out of the Coruscant world of fake laughs and weird champagne and dealing with her dumbass cousin-in-law’s comments for this Rebellion and Cassian just WALTZES IN and not only helps the mission succeed but instantly kills Skeen for trying to take the loot and leave them for dead. And after spending months trying to find his stupid ass…he willingly joins Intelligence as is an incredibly useful contributor and eventually takes part in an integral mission to the Rebellion’s success. And also he’s kind of great to have as a partner on a mission but it will take her literal years to admit that to anyone willingly.

(This is also a rant she tells to Cinta at some point in the confines of their bunk.)

And from Cassian’s POV he’s constantly trying to prove himself to Vel because of that! She’s been in this fight longer, technically, (Let’s not get into the fanon vs. canon backstory stuff rn for the sake of me keeping this weird fangirl rant straight) and he’s like Hell Yes teach me your spy tricks and also I will never stab you in the back again EVER.

For some reason the scene has come into my head of Vel teaching Cassian some kind of fancy Waltz or whatever for a mission and she’s like If You Step On My Toes Again I Will Stab You but also they’re kind of having fun and getting along because spy-ing is what they both do best and creating a cover and all that comes with it is probably their mutual catnip. They’re like…vitriolic buds.

But also…she fell hard for Cinta. Like she wasn’t prepared to find love in the middle of this war and you can see how much she struggles with balancing that and the mission in-series. So I agree, she would probably be like: Cassian. You don’t know how long you have. If you like her just fucking SAY IT. I promise that it’s worth the risk in the end.

And it’s probably the most emotionally honest and personal with him that she’s ever been in their friendship-of-sorts-thing that they have, so he takes it to heart. But also he’s like “You two have been together as long as I’ve known you and you STILL look at Cinta like that, what’s your excuse?” and Vel immediately starts talking about how she she wishes she’d dropped his ass into the dirt when they met, he’s SUCH a pain. 🙄

The way I don’t think the actual series will do this for them and I just pulled all of this out of my butt but I love the idea of it…yeah. That’s a nice little dynamic thing we’ve got going here. It’s so much fun to think about. I love it. 🥹

i hope you don’t mind me exploring this a bit on your post lol

vel is a class traitor who is trying so desperately to remove herself from the class of people she comes from - and everything they represent. it’s very interesting to have her be queer on top of that. it adds the element of personal stakes beyond just resenting her own class that mon doesn’t have. like im not saying vel has more radical politics than mon mothma just because she’s queer... since that’s very much not always the case with real life white wealthy queer people. but with vel, she is more radical, she’s on the ground. mon is certainly at risk but it’s different.

it’s like she’s closeted with her blood family (save for mon, the Ally lol) and able to be her true self with cinta and the rebels... in more ways than one. when she’s having to put on the mask - the hair, the makeup, the clothes, the disinterest in the world - she’s also hiding her true self. when she’s with the rebellion, she can wear her hair more naturalistically, she can love her girlfriend openly and she can be the very best she can be. instead of wasting away every day in the cold, sterile high society lifestyle mon is in.

the thing is, for someone like vel it’s easier to throw away the benefits of living a high society life than it is for someone like mon. being rich and having status and nice clothing and good food and drink is a nice thing and most people don’t want to give it up even if they do resent everything that high society represents - oppression, elitism, apathy, etc. to go from that world to a world of milking space sheep and sleeping on the ground, being on the run, that’s not a choice most people are going to make. for better or for worse.

so it makes me think that for vel life as a spoiled rich girl was so oppressive and aimless, that it felt so unnatural and soul-sucking to be in that life. and it seems pretty soul-sucking for mon mothma. but still, for mon the benefits of the lifestyle she leads outweigh the very significant negatives of having to hide her truth. because her truth is a choice - when you come from a privileged position like mon does, and i mean privileged in both class and also like in the context of marginalization, having a left/leftish and even progressive liberal politics is a choice. it is not the starting point - it takes a lot of time and active unlearning of so much that is just baked into life as a given from birth. that’s why it’s extremely uncommon to find someone like vel in real life revolutionary movements (although there are famously many class traitors in revolutions, but most revolutionaries are not especially not the ones on the ground). you’re much more likely to see someone be like mon mothma - academic, perhaps even putting a lot of money into causes, but rarely getting into the mud of the fight. and when she does she’s also unwilling to listen to people like saw gerrera who has lived experience that influences his politics and strategy.

vel seems to listen more to cinta - while she is considered the leader of the mission, cinta is more of a partner than a subordinate (which is partly why everyone is shocked that vel didn’t tell cinta about cassian being a mercenary). and vel leans on the whole team, it’s much more of a collective effort.

anyway vel and mon to me represent how the comforts of high society weigh against the costs of living a lie. and yeah for someone who lives with a homophobic family that doesn’t respect her, of course it’s easier to run from all that comfort.

The parallels between Cinta saying to Vel "maybe I'll be a spoiled rich girl" and Mon pleading with Vel to "be a spoiled rich girl for a while" was a moment. So small, but if there's anything I've learned from the 9 episodes so far, there's nothing that small enough to not mention again. They're building Vel's character as the spoiled rich girl turned Rebel leader for a reason and I can't wait to see what it's going to be.

As for spicy/smutty things, they’ll be tagged as ‘nsft.’ and I will ONLY write them with muns I’m already familiar with and put under read more or on discord. I tag triggers using 'trigger tw’ and ‘trigger cw’. I won’t hesitate to block you if you're homophobic/transphobic/islamophobic/racist. This is non-negotiable and frankly, you can leave if you don’t agree.  If your posts are untagged and uncut, there’s a high chance I won’t follow back. It’s nothing personal, I just don’t like a clogged dash.  Basic rules on godmodding apply. I will ask for your permission regarding any decision that may involve manipulating, killing, or maiming your muse(s), so I expect the same courtesy from you. While we’re still on that subject, I find posts that are (typed)  like  this  (with double spacing, too) distracting and straining on my eyes. I may remove that type of aesthetic on my end when necessary. Plotting and memes are the best ways to interact with me. They don’t have an expiry date, so send them in whenever! I have my favorite ships for my canon characters as do most people I’d imagine (and I will default to established/heavily implied ships in most cases!), but that isn’t to say I’m not open to ship with other muses. I’m always here for more interesting dynamics! There must be chemistry of course, so if you’ve got an idea of a potential ship, just let me know.
