For his series Character Illustrations, the art director and illustrator Omar Aqil uses Pablo Picasso’s painted portraits to inspire digital recreations. CJ HENDRY 🧠 Artist Cj Hendry rocketed to fame in 2017 with her unbelievably realistic colored pencil drawings of daubs of paint. For her solo show, which opened on April 10 in Brooklyn, the artist continued in her signature style, focusing on precisely rendering the imprecise nature of Rorschach blots. Each drawing by Hendry balances hyperrealism with abstraction and depicts a vibrant mirror image of a mix of squished paint, recreated in colored pencil. The show was housed in an all-white inflatable bounce house, a playful nod to the test’s origins as a psychological diagnostic tool. PATRICIA BUSTOS 🧬 Wonder Galaxy is a journey into the future that explores the realm of fantasy, that kind of imagination that belongs to the world of children. The artist who designed the project for Casa Decor 2019 in Madrid, is Spanish designer Patricia Bustos and, through her dressing room, wants us to relive childhood to explain that becoming adults isn’t a limit, but only a new way of explaining our creativity. The entire structure is characterized by bright colors such as pink and purple that contribute to transmitting “the creative energy from childhood”. The play of asymmetric strings and volumes gives us a feeling of infinite depth, expanding the space. ADRY DEL ROCIO 🌷 Born in Guadalajara Mexico, Adry del Rocio is one of the most recognized 3D street painters in the world, beginning her career as a painter after winning a children’s art competition at the age of only 4. Since then, she has had 53 solo and 90 collective art shows in various cities across Mexico, the United States, Cuba, and Spain. The recognition and generous financial help from these awards allowed Adry to continue developing her skills, her career, and her commitment to her primary artistic passion: painting. His use of religious iconography, crystals, taxidermy and skulls awakens something inside of us that often lies dormant. The work is not an expression of a particular conviction, nor a definitive question, but rather a display of broad, openminded and unrestricted wondering.
