Alright, I'm going down a rabbit hole.
In my Marioverse, there's a sort of universal way monarchies are run and how rulers are dressed based largely on historical Western Europe; most monarchies that adhere to this practice are allies, and thus it's sort of a symbol of unity, a distinct style that they all share in. However, each kingdom has its own parallel to nations in our world. The nations themselves reflect a mix of modernity and history, while monarchs wear their nation's traditional clothing for special occasions.
It's still heavily a work in progress, but here's what I've got so far!
The Sarasaland Empire is parallel to India. Its capital, while borrowing elements of ancient Egyptian culture and archeology, is actually parallel to the state of Rajasthan, while Daisy herself hails from the Muda Kingdom, which here is parallel to the state of Kerala. Daisy is thusly Marayali.
Since I can't draw, I'm scouring the internet for references for her traditional dress, and here's some good ones that sum up the idea: a traditional Kerala saree with an orange blouse and yellow/gold accents (first pic) and emerald jewelry (second pic).

For the Beanbean Kingdom, I'm thinking Southeast Asia? This one's had a lot less thought put into it. I jumped and said Laos first off, but now I'm thinking Cambodia. Complete coincidence and something I'm still researching, but Cambodia was colonized by France at one point in its history and a little over a million people still speak it, which would explain the presence of French within the kingdom. On top of that, its numerous famous depictions of the Buddha bring to mind the ever-present symbols of laughter the kingdom's themed after.

There is… frustratingly little in-depth info on traditional Khmer fashion in the English language, at least from cursory digging, so Peasley’s and Queen Bean’s traditional dress will take me a while longer to solidify. For now I’ve got lots more research to do on sampot, but their outfits will likely resemble these (just… less intimate in their posing, since they’re. Y’know. Mother and son).

Aaaaaaaand that’s about what I’ve got. I don’t even know where to start with the Mushroom Kingdom and Peach, but that’s my next goal!
#I'm still figuring out how languages work#there's a universal common tongue a la star wars' basic#but I dunno if it's largely overtaken native tongues or if most people in the eight realms are just. inherently bilingual#leaning towards the first one with the original languages being mostly preserved in academic circles#peaches’ illustrious lore

hi chronicler!! is operator chronicler friends with drusus at all? do they swap notes or compare stories? maybe drusus has even allowed "contributions from an esteemed colleague" in his leverian? :3
Hey, uh, sorry for taking so long (like a month or two?) to respond to this. I'll be completely honest I forgot about it. But regardless, here we are and I'll do my best to answer your ponderings.
So, for Operator Chronicler specifically, the answer would actually be No. This is for two major reasons. The first being that while Drusus focuses on tales from the System's past, The Chroniclers focus on the System and it's people in the present. Its less history and more archiving, saving what is so that those who will be can look back with a clear lens. The second reason is tied to the backstory of Operator Chronicler and, specifically, the idea that Drusus might actually recognize him. Now, the two never met before, but Drusus would know Operator Chronicler but a very, very different name, one almost scrubbed from history. Operator Chronicler doesn't want to be recognized, which is why he would probably just politely ignore Leverian's existence and do his own thing, writing about people and places young enough not to feel a sense of recognition upon seeing Operator Chronicler.
However, your ideas are not unfounded. For the "esteem colleague" in this case is definitely Drifter Chronicler. Being stuck in Duviri, drifternicler (as affectionately refered to by a mutual of mine) has not experienced the System quite as much as his younger counterpart. Being the curious goofball he is, he would definitely also enjoy poking at the past as well as the present, investigating details about any stories he may hear in passing just to sate his own wonder. And, indeed, this might lead him to the Leverian, where he could meet and make acquaintance with Drusus. Of course, he wouldn't have much to share about the System, what with being stuck in a magic fantasy void realm, but I feel like he would definitely help Drusus flesh out the stories from his library by, as I've mentioned before, investigating any strange details or lack thereof that catch his eye. This, combined with his extensive and plentiful history in Duviri, could actually end up creating a whole new area of the Leverian, one about the many misadventures of a certain Scholar in the 'definitely fictional' world of Duviri. After all, when you can claim you've beaten Kullervo by batting Tamms at him with your Sampotes, you've very much deserved it. (oh, and btw, the Tamm thing wasn't some challenge. It was just an experiment that popped into drifterniclers head one day)
Thank you for this ask, sorry again for taking so long, and hope you got the answers you seeketh.
Oh, and if you or anyone else has any questions about my blorbos, feel free to ask!

Unpacking Choose Elements
Buddha Statue #1
Explain the Origin of this Element? Buddha’s position helps the viewer to understand what kind of figure he is. His presence shows that he’s in full possession of virtue and wisdom as he observes those who look upon him as a source of energy and joy.
Where did you get this Element? Mum had brought this object for our dining room, where the Buddha statue is displayed on top of our bookshelves. This exemplifies how cultural objects linger in our homes and are taken for granted.
Why is this Element Significant to you? This element is significant to me because the statute has symbolic meaning and has taught me to discover where my values and beliefs stem from. The values and beliefs of the religion want to teach others how to be resilient, learn how to let go, mindfulness and acceptance. This is the source of my beliefs and values; while I am not religious, it has helped me understand who I am.
How is this Element Significant to your Creativity? Acts as a foundation in how I approach a design issue. Religion can be intimidating to the general audience. This element is significant to my creativity as it encourages me to reframe how Buddha is represented visually.
Family Photograph #2
Explain the Origin of this Element? Photograph of my Grandmother and Uncle in a refugee camp. This photograph was used to show proof of their relationship in order for a refugee application to be accepted in New Zealand.
Between 1975 and 1992, many refugees escaped the murderous regime of the Khmer Rouge. Many had to leave their hometown and had to make sacrifices for the safety of themselves and their loved ones. Cambodian journeys. (n.d.). https://natlib.govt.nz/schools/teaching-and-learning-resources/te-kupenga-stories-of-aotearoa-nz/cambodian-journeys
Where did you get this Element? This object was found in my Grandmother's wallet. Photographs can have sentimental value and hold the power to evoke emotions, trigger memories and bring a sense of comfort.
Why is this Element Significant to you? This element is important to me because it allows me to feel connected to my heritage and gaining insight of the environment in which my family grew up. This had made me to learn and appreciate the sacrifices they've made for a better life.
How is this Element Significant to your Creativity? At first, the exploration of my family background and their cultural upbringing and heritage led me to realise a deeper meaning. This element is significant to my creativity is that I wanted to preserve and showcase the sacrifices my family members have made.
Sampot #3
Explain the Origin of this Element? The Sampot (Traditional Khmer Clothing) was created in the 1st century during the Funan era when Cambodian royalty was receiving Chinese government officials. The Cambodian king ordered his people to wear the Sampot in order to cover themselves and please the Chinese visitors.
Where did you get this Element? Tailor Made for the first temple visit in celebrating it's opening.
Why is this Element Significant to you? This element is significant to me. It was my first cultural clothing piece, where I felt connected to my ethnic background. Showcasing a part in who I am.
How is this Element Significant to your Creativity? These elements are significant to my creativity as I like to take inspiration from the style of the clothing. For example, how it’s presented (Elegant, Extravagent), taking inspiration from its patterns.
------
The influence of Chinese culture in the creation of Sampots can still be seen in the patterns and colours of the silk used to make them. Generally speaking, Sampots are made from a beautiful piece of embroidered silk. The fabrics are normally dyed with rich colours and decorated with gold embroideries. Many Sampots are secured at the waist by a golden belt. Traditional dress in Cambodia. (2023, May 15). Family Business #4
Explain the Origin of this Element? Bakery sign that was installed before my parents had brought the business.
Where did you get this Element? N/A.
Why is this Element Significant to you? Being a daughter who is a part of a family-owned business. My parents owned a bakery, where I had spent the majority of my childhood. This element is significant to me. The impact of being a part of a family business has its moments and hardships. What I miss about this place, was the community and the relationships I've developed while working there.
How is this Element Significant to your Creativity? Being able to serving a community.
Custom Handscroll #5
Explain the Origin of this Element? N/A
Where did you get this Element? I had gotten this hand scroll custom-made in Vietnam, celebrating TET New Year with my friend and her family. 成 – To be successful 德 – Moral & Virtue.
Why is this Element Significant to you? This element is significant to me as it helped me to feel a sense of belonging. It plays a crucial role in shaping how we view the world and feel connected to those who hold the wisdom and insights of those who came before us. It's also the time for loved ones to come together and celebrate the new year. I haven't celebrated it since my grandparents moved out. Growing up it has made me realise how much I missed the preparation and coming together with others to celebrate it.
How is this Element Significant to your Creativity? This element is significant in my creativity as Chinese calligraphy is to be seen as a form of art.

I have started a second account and here are some of the things that have really pissed me off:
1) I do not feel powerful. I feel weak as shit and like I’m letting the team down. Free roam is a nightmare.
2) the classic colour palette being locked. That’s some real baloney.
3) lack of cosmetics open to new users makes me feel like shit.
4) fucking. Mods. Can’t upgrade em fully. Don’t even have enough to fully kit stuff. It makes me feel bad and my brain feel bad.
It’s not an adventure when you’re MR1. And that’s a bad thing.
The good content is like 50 hrs in. That’s a nightmare. Make it easier to get to Natah. We unfortunately have day jobs and cannot dedicate the time needed to do those early star chart unlocks.
Now. What are my recommendations for new players?
Sampotes.
If you can get enough platinum, you should get the Sampotes from the store. But only if you like smashing shit up.
Made early game much more fun.
Reblog with other suggestions if you have any, readers.
Sometimes I want to restart playing Warframe, but just by remembering how SLOW it is to progress the main storyline makes me give up. This and the spoilers of that sentinel-dictatorship I've got (no, I never played that part, the game progresses very slowly, remember?), specially the spoilers regarding Fortuna.
Oh, and the headaches. When I play too much, I always get headaches. And this is not exclusive to Warframe (although while playing Warframe they come faster).
#the new player experience#warframe#warframe fandom#it’s a fucking nightmare#but there’s ways to fix it#kinda

Green.
I’ve got a record player that was made in 2014, Dyed my hair blue, it came out a seasick sort of green. I like vintage dresses when they fall just below my knees, I pretend I scraped them climbing in the trees.
Sometimes I think all I’m ever doing is trying to convince myself I’m alive.
-Daisy the Great, ‘The Record Player Song’
Green is a difficult color to talk about.
Green is a difficult color to talk about because everything in Amphibia, or at least Wartwood, is green. The plants are green. The grass is green. The trees are green. The water is green. The sky is green. The majority of background frogs are green.
Green is a background color.
It’s always there. Ever present, but never significant. Defining every scene by its presence, but never in a way that draws attention to itself. Green is so prevalent, so pervasive, so consistent, that you never really notice it’s there.
Until it’s gone.
Green is Marcy’s color.
Most Marcy episodes deal with her relationship with another character without focusing purely on Marcy herself, because Marcy is always standing in the background, behind everyone else, both in supporting them and in not revealing her true self. Because of this, there are very few times when green stands out.
One notable exception is that Anne wears this green dress throughout Girl Time, when she’s fixated on what she thinks Polly needs instead of what she actually wants - specifically, trying to get Polly to ‘fit in’ with a preconceived societal idea Anne has of what a girl ‘should’ be like.
Huh.
Anne’s back to her regular outfit before the end of the episode, by the time she’s realized that she’s “super wrong” and she shouldn’t be pushing Polly to be something she’s not.
On the other hand, Anne wears a green sampot (pha thung? look don’t expect me to know fashion) in Lily Pad Thai, as she fixes up Stumpy’s and delivers on the promise she made. This is Anne at her most capable and competent, as she easily handles the task of running a restaurant - because it’s something she knows that she’s good at and has experience doing.
The mossman is green and surrounded by cyan butterflies. I don’t have anything to say on that right now, because we still don’t know the full deal with the mossmen, but I thought I’d point it out.
In Cursed!, the color of Barry’s magic is a paler, almost sickly, green, which makes a nice contrast to Maddie’s purple:
Barry, as we know, is a real jerk. But he’s a jerk in secret.
Barry: I played it cool and was sweet, because my image is half my business! I may look nice, but I’m petty and vengeful on the inside!
And you know who else is a shade of light green?
Everything about Tritonio is a fabrication. He pretends to be an ordinary, boring teacher to Hop Pop, and then a cool teacher to the Plantar kids, but he’s neither of those things. He’s a con man. Even his goatee is fake. Hell, I don’t think he’s actually Spanish. And what the first lesson he taught them?
Trust no one.
And then there’s Children of the Spore.
Throughout the entire scene of Gary’s possession, Amphibia’s moon becomes a similarly pale green, which provides an eerie lighting that helps to sell this episode’s horror vibe. This is hardly the last time we’ll see the moon change color, but what’s really interesting is that immediately after Gary is defeated and the threat has passed, the moon turns back to its normal red.
So, either the light of Gary’s mushrooms is making the moon look green somehow, or there’s something more mystical going on. Green is also the color of wit, of course, and these frogs are having their minds taken over. While we don’t know how Gary enslaved most of the town, we can say one thing: he got control of Hop Pop’s kids by tricking him. Like Tritonio, he’s a con man.
As with Anne and Sasha, a lighter shade of green represents Marcy’s positive traits taken to a logical extreme - in this case, intelligence, cleverness, and strategic brilliance become deception, trickery, and lies.
And that’s it for green in season 1, so come back next time when we actually talk about episodes with Marcy in them.

For my main operator and drifter duo, they dont really use warframes. Operator Chronicler used to use Styanax, bit thats a bit of a touchy topic for him. Drifter probably also used that Styanax at some point as a form of defense, but aside from that he prefers in person field testing with his Sampotes
Man I'm curious and in a oc mood...
What is your Operator's favorite Warframe? Is it different from your Drifter?

East Asian traditional dress ranked by my comfort when I wore it.
1. kimono & hanbok A combo of beautifully flowing silks and good waist structure. Excellent ventilation even in the height of summer. For my body type, both men’s and women’s obi provide support that honestly fixes my posture to sit long periods in a chair comfortably. I can totally understand that other folks might hate the stiffness though. Both baji and hakama are great for sport and sitting on the floor/ground. With a variation of textile and layering, these types of traditional dress adapt easily to extreme seasons and rapidly changing weather. I can attest to the comfortability and adaptability of kimono & hanbok from snowy Boston to sunny Orlando. Based on these experiences, I predict I would also find hanfu quite comfortable. 2. áo dài Honestly I adored wearing this gift from my Vietnamese neighbours this year. Comfortable and miraculously tailored, it is as much a work of fabric art as it is a testament to clothing design for tropical climbs like my current Florida home. The pants had more liquefaction than I was anticipating, and the top much more tightness. Bad news is that in general, I find fitted circular collars to be a negative sensation ; but I’m well aware this is a “me problem” not applicable to others. 3. sampot Fantastic in hot muggy weather! Very easy to tie! One can vary formality with choice of silk and jacket. Petition to normalise this as the new cool hammer-pant. 4. tangzhuang Pretty good coverage in cold climes, and a much comfier version of the mandarin collar in the one I have. The construction isn’t as immediately flattering as the áo dài , but it is comfy and I am a true sucker for thick and complex brocade. 4. cheongsam All the collar problems of the áo dài, and none of the pant access or flow. Haven’t worn one since transitioning but honestly I just wasn’t impressed. I may be a sucker for brocade but if I’m going to crossdress, I think I’ll stick to clothes I actively like.

The Sultan’s Dream
“Nyra… Glacius… It has been a journey of ten-thousand malms since we stepped foot upon Eorzea. I was but a simple lordling that wanted to make a name for himself, with nothing but my two greatest companions – my best friends – by my side. You two were always there. Through my triumphs and my failures, you were all I had to depend on.
Yes, I have my Angels to watch over and safeguard myself and the Regalia, but even they are not always around – unlike you two. ‘Tis not often I am given an opportunity to simply enjoy the scenery and share my thoughts; there are few whom I trust enough to divulge my deepest secrets. And to tell you the greatest truth of all, Nyra & Glacius… I’m tired. My time spent in Eorzea was one filled with so much turmoil that I would not even wish such a life on my worst enemies. And although I’ve brought the Regalia to a shining age of prosperity, I had still suffered a great deal since I first became an adventurer.
All this conflict is for the cloudkin. I’ve already cavorted with enough primals to live three full lives. And the repeated incursions of the Garlean Empire are evolving into quite the proverbial broken record. There are numerous other adventurers and ‘heroes’ strewn about the realm to make an army; what’s one merchant-lord in the grand scheme of things?
We’ve played our part on this grand stage of imbeciles, Glacius. Nyra. But now it is time for the curtains to descend. I am done fighting and tempting fate – I’ll grow old doing this for so long. ‘Tis time we returned back home to where we belong.”
Thiji reflected back on his speech he gave to his two most trusted companions some summers ago. While he has gained and lost much throughout his time as an adventurer, he was tolerant of the outcomes and made peace with them. Of course, there are certain moments in time he wish would have changed for the better.
His confrontation with the Harriers and their leader in the heart of Snowcloak, though successful in its objective, costed Thiji the life of the only Angel who ever loved him – Mamai Mai, who was given the title of “Lady” posthumously. She insisted on accompanying the then Mythrite Prince and his comrades-in-arms in his assault, offering her pugilistic skills to the table. Unfortunately, she was waylaid unexpectantly by what may as well have been a sub-zero blast of cold by the Lady of Frost. Thiji may have withstood the brunt of it, but Mamai was not so prepared, and she fell as a result. This was the beginning of a martial awakening within Thiji, for this event catalyzed his ascent – or descent, to some – into the path of the Dark Knight. This would later be realized in its fullest when he battled against the fourfold master of the blade in His home turf: Ravana, Lord of the Hive.
“Martial perfection”, the Amalj’aa called it. The apex of one’s skill for which all Amalj’aa seek to strive. This concept stuck close to Thiji as he eventually took up the sword and shield, continuing his adventures as a Paladin during the campaign to liberate Ala Mhigo. When he had faced off against the Lady of Bliss, whose Qalyana dreamers were coaxed into summoning their false deity due to threats from the Garlean Empire, he had received word from Nyra, who bore a message from one of his Angels informing him that his then-Sultana, Nanago Nago - whom was with child and under the care of Sarielle - had succumbed to her own avarice, consuming gratuitous amounts of aether from his weapons collected throughout his journeys during the Dragonsong War. The resulting effulgence – combined with her own innate powers as an Astrologian – caused her and their unborn child to perish in a stellar explosion, effectively removing them from existence. Another crushing loss – greater, even, than the one incurred from losing Mamai. Thanks to the laws of time and space, no one but he and his Angels know of this event. Once more unhinged, Thiji found new strength in not only his martial, but his magical prowess, effectively dispatching of the Lady of Bliss, though at the cost of his own blade and board… and his soul crystal, which he casted away with his armor following the battle.
It always seemed passing strange that the Dunesfolk nobleman from the Near East would gain new strength and prowess by leaps and bounds at the expense of some tragedy – this only further added to his eccentricity. He was a calm individual, but was incredibly vindictive – especially if one ever crossed his Angels, whom he cared for so dearly. Others may not have picked up on the cause of these… awakenings, but Thiji was more than aware of it. Some days following the Largesse, when he was alone in his Aldenard Branch office, he gazed upon a glistening blue greatsword of exquisite make. It was made by a Dragoon friend of his who had a fascination for all things Allagan, and upon the length of the blade was an engraved sentence:
“As long as you make it out of a battle alive, you're one step closer to fulfilling your dream.”
More than just pretty words to the Mythrite Sultan. He had experienced many battles and came out of each intact. Even now, as the kingpin of the Higuri Regalia, Thiji had even conquered a battlefield which extended beyond the physical: the realm of high fashion. He toiled for many winters to get to where he is now; to be the titan of aesthetic and philanthropy which has earned the respect of many (and, for some reason, the ire of some). Yet therein lies the problem:
What dream remained?
Sure, Thiji Higuri was a man of ambition and intellect. But he had not enjoyed the pursuit of a dream since the assault on Djanan Qhat. Ever since he was a child, he was spellbound by a particular play, and never missed a single showing. Thiji had experienced it so many times that he could (and probably still) recite the entire script verbatim. It was a tale of romance and tragedy; of a powerful sorceress with a good heart who stood up for a broken country’s people, and the solitary man who rose up to defend her: the Sorceress’s Knight.
A dream he may have fulfilled after the Dragonsong War, but was snatched away prior to Ala Mhigo’s freedom. It was a sensitive topic, and seldom brought up in the Mythrite Sultan’s presence, lest an Angel earns his anger. Why keep the claymore, then, if he had no dream to pursue? What other meaning could the decorative sword have to Thiji if he is a man bereft of that driving force?
The evening following the Largesse, the Mythrite Sultan was no longer present at the Aldenard Branch. He had begun making for the Main Branch for reasons as of yet unknown – probably to oversee the release of the Blessed Wardrobe’s second clothing line. As usual, his Advisor, Veeveena Veena, was present in his chambers, enjoying some Winter Lassi as she gazed upon the moon with that lovely smile on her face. It was yet another peaceful night in Radz-at-Han, and though she has seen the view many times, it was no less breathtaking to behold for the Near Eastern flower.
Veeveena took a few sips of her drink as the winds suddenly began to rise. The trees amidst the emergent layer of the jungle which could be seen from the city began to sway and billow, and would eventually cause a whisper or three to blow through the balcony. The sudden shift in temperature caught her off guard as the Dunesfolk woman let out a soft gasp, stumbling somewhat, but maintained her posture as the numerous jewels and decorations on her sampot clinked like wind chimes against her body.
“This breeze…” she whispered to herself. “Could it be the North Wind? Has he arrived in Radz-at-Han?” The sheer thought of meeting the elusive debonair was too enticing to resist, and Veeveena would quickly down the last of the lassi, enduring the brain freeze that would follow. As swiftly as she could, she doffed her garb to put on some evening attire before making her flight from the Main Branch Headquarters. Forgoing the usual method of taking the bridge out from the city, she utilized her fans to conjure wind-aspected aether to propel herself upward, gliding down gracefully toward the canopy.
Meanwhile, as Veeveena made her way to the rivulet, a lone figure was seen dancing about. It was shrouded entirely thanks to the shadows cast by the dense canopy beneath Menphina’s light. The figure’s movements were seamless, effortlessly transitioning into fouettes, sliding along the waters from one side to the other as they froze over, striping the rivulet with bands of ice. All throughout was the sound of steel ringing through the night air, and that same icy wind began picking up once more as the figure gathered aetherial energy for a brief moment before soaring from one end of the river to the other in a twirling flourish. Upon reaching the apex of the jump, it performed a flawless jete, the silvery moon cloaking the figure all the while as if the spectacle was taken straight out from a painting. The concealed terpsichorean was releasing the stored energy as it did its finish, resulting in an arch of slick ice to form over the rivulet. Sticking the landing with one final twirl into a plie, it detected movement within the trees. It did not bother to take the time to discern the incoming presence, and instead fled the scene with a blinding dash into the forest floor.
When Veeveena had finally emerged, the figure she believed to be the North Wind was nowhere to be found. All that she beheld was the stark scenery of a partly-frozen rivulet, the banks dotted with shards of frost, and an arch spanning its breadth. “This is beautiful… but the North Wind could not do this,” she thought, as she felt the scintillant snow particles kissing her face. While she was awestruck at the sight, Veeveena had to report this occurrence to her peers. Without wasting another moment, she contacted the Angels at the Main Branch, who would then arrive within the bell.
The “S” Trio (Sena, Sona, Suna) and the “L” Trio (Lena, Luma, Lina) were investigating the area as Veeveena brought them up to speed on what happened to the best of her ability. Sosona was easily able to deduce that the lingering aether was not the result of a primal’s thanks to her aetherometer obtained by the Scions of the Seventh Dawn (who, when asked about how she acquired them, stated that they didn’t seem to be using them anymore anyway); Lelena and Lilina, with their own unique abilities, further deduced that the culprit was not using the ambient aether or the influence of a construct; Luluma and Susuna had also come to the conclusion that the focus area was away from any wildlife or beastmen, so none were harmed from the result of this… phenomenon.
What really stood out, however, was Sesena’s observation after gazing upon the frozen arch for several minutes:
“Hey, Angels… do any of you feel… different?” she asked them. “Miss Veeveena?”
“Yes,” she replied. “I thought I was the only one who felt such… emotion from this scene, so I did not address it.”
“Miss Veeveena’s right… I don’t feel all that chipper,” Lilina commented, holding a hand to her heart. “It’s not… aether sickness, but when I gaze upon this scene, I’m seemingly overcome with… sorrow. But it’s a sort of… beautiful sorrow – like a dying maiden being held in her lover’s arms before the last flames of life fade from her eyes…”
The other Angels absorbed Lilina’s words, taking in the scenery, watching the snow particles dance in the air. The longer they remained, the more these senses seemed more profound. They may have been involved in many conflicts both small and large, but the Angels were no strangers to emotion – especially ones as palpable as what they were experiencing. They felt tranquility… yet sadness; bliss… yet loss. It was as if they were traversing a thin line between positive and negative emotion.
“I’ve heard tales of his prowess, Angels, but I don’t think even the North Wind is capable of something like this,” Sesena commented.
“Whomever it is,” Sosona began, “they’re damn good at expressing themselves.” The Angels remained for a while longer, until the icy spectacle would be whisked away by an errant gust of wind, freeing the rivulet from its frozen state in a cloud of diamond dust.
From atop the city in the Main Branch Headquarters, a Lalafell woman veiled in mythril blue and silver watched silently from her vantage point. Lady Mimizo, the Valide Sultan, was surprisingly awake during this bell, her face obscured by one of her fans. But for what reason was she spying on the Angels?
As Nyra flew to her side, Mimizo looked over her shoulder to find a slumbering Thiji, who seemed to be well into his sleep, a rare smile of content made visible on his face. His mother would grin in kind as she gave a kiss to the owl’s cheek.
“[I am indebted to you, Nyra. Thank you for keeping this secret for so long. But soon, the Angels will have to know. Until then, pray hold your tongue a while longer],” Mimizo whispered to Nyra in their native tongue. She would bow her head before taking wing, flying off into the night sky. Mimizo gazed upon the vestiges of the ice particles swirling into the heavens, enjoying the sight for a moment before quietly leaving her son’s bed chambers. She would return to accompany her husband before the Angels would make their way back to report this event to the other branches.
“May your dreams bring you the bliss you so rightfully deserve, my beloved son…”

Your baby at 7 months...
...By the seventh month, your baby will begin to show signs of a budding independence that is only going to get stronger in the weeks ahead. The days when you could leave your baby in the middle of the floor and expect to find her in the same position five minutes later are coming to an end.
She should be able to:
Sit without support
Imitate speech sounds
Feed herself with a bread stick or other finger food
Smile often when interacting with you
She will probably be able to:
Combine syllables into word-like sounds
Begin to crawl or lunge forward
Object if you take a toy away
Work to get one out of reach
Look for a dropped object
Play peek-a-boo
7 months today since I left for Cambodia and 5 months living in my, not so new, home. Looks like I'm on the right track. I've gone to weddings and chugged a few beers, a few religious festivals to feed the ancestors, and celebrated national holidays with trips to the town carnival fitted with all my American expectations from popcorn to bouncy houses. I've traveled a bit of Cambodia. I've spent the afternoon on the beach in Kep eating grilled stingray and fresh crab, nights on the lazy river in Kampot, and a hot afternoon sightseeing at the glorious Angkor Wat. I've been teaching now for 3 months and I'm more comfortable in a sampot (traditional Khmer skirt) and I'm finally getting the hang of English grammar and all its complications.
I just returned from IST, or In Service Training, which consists of two weeks of 8am-5:30, Monday through Saturday language, technical, and cultural training. Needless to say, I was not used to this schedule. The chill, easy life in the village is a sharp contrast to the 8-5 lifestyle. The technical training mostly focused on the secondary projects we could begin to plan at site. They are called "secondary projects" because my primary mission here is to teach English; building a bathroom or a library, for example, isn’t necessary, but it is encouraged. Secondary projects rely on the volunteer and the community to come together and work on something the people of the community really wants and need. It requires teamwork and a real inquiry into the sustainability of an idea made into reality. Many times NGOs go to countries that they believe need help and give them, for example, a bathroom, but the NGO doesn’t take into account if there's a real need, if they people will actually use it, or who will keep it clean. As a result, the bathroom goes unused or slowly becomes unusable.... There are 100s of these littered all over the Cambodian countryside. So the central focus of a secondary project is that is wanted, needed, and sustainable.
After two weeks in the city, so far detached from village life, some volunteers were ready and excited to return to site, I was not one of them. I was anxiety ridden and unsure about how I could transition from two weeks of western food, good beer, hot showers, and late nights with good friends. Its a good life in the city and I do miss living that life. I was really worried about how I would emotionally and mentally react in my return to bowls of rice, bed at 8, and the language barrier. In the months leading to IST I found myself lacking motivation, feeling unengaged, and uninspired. I stopped studying Khmer, I spent as much time as possible in bed, I was binging netflix, and neglecting a real need to get on my yoga mat, sweat by choice and find some peace of mind. My transition back was smoother than I thought; there was no need to worry as much as I did. I missed my family and my family missed me. Turns out I missed the cold bucket showers too. I jumped right back into teaching and bowls of rice. I even came back to a tiny lil' two month old kitten, which I adore. And now, plans are in the works to start my secondary project, reinvigorate the library so the kids can have somewhere to meet up, study and read. Maybe we can even get some computers in there. And I start a 12th grade exam So, I wasn’t ready to come back, but now I'm feeling good and inspired. I want to be more invested in teaching, spend more time on my bike and my mat, study more Khmer, and start engaging more with the community. I need to wake up earlier and drink a bit more coffee but I think it’s doable.
Wish me luck
PS Sorry about the long absence. I promise I’ll write more often.
