It's that time of year again!
I'm putting the list under the "read more" along with a synopsis of each movie for those who may not be familiar with it. I hope others will join me this year in celebrating the spooktacular Mystic Messenger characters!
Reblogs Appreciated!
RULES
Oct. 1st: Hocus Pocus
After moving to Salem, Mass., teenager Max Dennison (Omri Katz) explores an abandoned house with his sister Dani (Thora Birch) and their new friend, Allison (Vinessa Shaw). After dismissing a story Allison tells as superstitious, Max accidentally frees a coven of evil witches (Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker, Kathy Najimy) who used to live in the house. Now, with the help of a magical cat, the kids must steal the witches' book of spells to stop them from becoming immortal.
Oct. 2nd: The Addams Family
When a man (Christopher Lloyd) claiming to be Fester, the missing brother of Gomez Addams (Raul Julia), arrives at the Addams' home, the family is thrilled. However, Morticia (Anjelica Huston) begins to suspect the man is a fraud, since he cannot recall details of Fester's life. With the help of lawyer Tully Alford (Dan Hedaya), Fester manages to get the Addams clan evicted from their home. Gomez realizes the two men are conspiring to swindle the Addams fortune and that he must challenge Fester.
Oct 3rd: Halloween
On a cold Halloween night in 1963, six year old Michael Myers brutally murdered his 17-year-old sister, Judith. He was sentenced and locked away for 15 years. But on October 30, 1978, while being transferred for a court date, a 21-year-old Michael Myers steals a car and escapes Smith's Grove. He returns to his quiet hometown of Haddonfield, Illinois, where he looks for his next victims.
Oct. 4th: The Nightmare Before Christmas
The film follows the misadventures of Jack Skellington, Halloweentown's beloved pumpkin king, who has become bored with the same annual routine of frightening people in the "real world." When Jack accidentally stumbles on Christmastown, all bright colors and warm spirits, he gets a new lease on life -- he plots to bring Christmas under his control by kidnapping Santa Claus and taking over the role. But Jack soon discovers even the best-laid plans of mice and skeleton men can go seriously awry.
Oct. 5th: Edward Scissorhands
A scientist (Vincent Price) builds an animated human being -- the gentle Edward (Johnny Depp). The scientist dies before he can finish assembling Edward, though, leaving the young man with a freakish appearance accentuated by the scissor blades he has instead of hands. Loving suburban saleswoman Peg (Dianne Wiest) discovers Edward and takes him home, where he falls for Peg's teen daughter (Winona Ryder). However, despite his kindness and artistic talent, Edward's hands make him an outcast.
Oct. 6th: Beetlejuice
After Barbara (Geena Davis) and Adam Maitland (Alec Baldwin) die in a car accident, they find themselves stuck haunting their country residence, unable to leave the house. When the unbearable Deetzes (Catherine O'Hara, Jeffrey Jones) and teen daughter Lydia (Winona Ryder) buy the home, the Maitlands attempt to scare them away without success. Their efforts attract Beetlejuice (Michael Keaton), a rambunctious spirit whose "help" quickly becomes dangerous for the Maitlands and innocent Lydia.
Oct. 7th: The Lost Boys
Teenage brothers Michael (Jason Patric) and Sam (Corey Haim) move with their mother (Dianne Wiest) to a small town in northern California. While the younger Sam meets a pair of kindred spirits in geeky comic-book nerds Edward (Corey Feldman) and Alan (Jamison Newlander), the angst-ridden Michael soon falls for Star (Jami Gertz) -- who turns out to be in thrall to David (Kiefer Sutherland), leader of a local gang of vampires. Sam and his new friends must save Michael and Star from the undead.
Oct. 8th: Sweeny Todd
Evil Judge Turpin (Alan Rickman) lusts for the beautiful wife of a London barber (Johnny Depp) and transports him to Australia for a crime he did not commit. Returning after 15 years and calling himself Sweeney Todd, the now-mad man vows revenge, applying his razor to unlucky customers and shuttling the bodies down to Mrs. Lovett (Helena Bonham Carter), who uses them in her meat-pie shop. Though many fall to his blade, he will not be satisfied until he slits Turpin's throat.
Oct. 9th: Sleepy Hollow
Set in 1799, "Sleepy Hollow" is based on Washington Irving's classic tale "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow." Faithful to the dreamy custom-bound world that Irving paints in his story, the film mixes horror, fantasy and romance and features an extraordinary cast of characters that dabble in the supernatural.
Oct. 10th: Psycho
Phoenix secretary Marion Crane (Janet Leigh), on the lam after stealing $40,000 from her employer in order to run away with her boyfriend, Sam Loomis (John Gavin), is overcome by exhaustion during a heavy rainstorm. Traveling on the back roads to avoid the police, she stops for the night at the ramshackle Bates Motel and meets the polite but highly strung proprietor Norman Bates (Anthony Perkins), a young man with an interest in taxidermy and a difficult relationship with his mother.
Oct. 11th: The Haunted Mansion
Workaholic real estate agent Jim Evers (Eddie Murphy) is accused by his wife, Sara (Marsha Thomason), of neglecting his son (Marc John Jefferies) and daughter (Aree Davis), so he takes the family on a vacation. Along the way, the family stops off at a sinister mansion that Jim has been asked to sell, only to discover it's haunted by Master Gracey (Nathaniel Parker) ; his stern butler, Ramsley (Terence Stamp) ; and two other servants who need some help breaking a curse.
Oct. 12th: Practical Magic
Sally (Sandra Bullock) and Gillian Owens (Nicole Kidman), born into a magical family, have mostly avoided witchcraft themselves. But when Gillian's vicious boyfriend, Jimmy Angelov (Goran Visnjic), dies unexpectedly, the Owens sisters give themselves a crash course in hard magic. With policeman Gary Hallet (Aidan Quinn) growing suspicious, the girls struggle to resurrect Angelov -- and unwittingly inject his corpse with an evil spirit that threatens to end their family line.
Oct 13th: The Exorcist
One of the most profitable horror movies ever made, this tale of an exorcism is based loosely on actual events. When young Regan (Linda Blair) starts acting odd -- levitating, speaking in tongues -- her worried mother (Ellen Burstyn) seeks medical help, only to hit a dead end. A local priest (Jason Miller), however, thinks the girl may be seized by the devil. The priest makes a request to perform an exorcism, and the church sends in an expert (Max von Sydow) to help with the difficult job.
Oct. 14th: The Shining
Jack Torrance (Jack Nicholson) becomes winter caretaker at the isolated Overlook Hotel in Colorado, hoping to cure his writer's block. He settles in along with his wife, Wendy (Shelley Duvall), and his son, Danny (Danny Lloyd), who is plagued by psychic premonitions. As Jack's writing goes nowhere and Danny's visions become more disturbing, Jack discovers the hotel's dark secrets and begins to unravel into a homicidal maniac hell-bent on terrorizing his family.
Oct 15th: Casper
Casper (voiced by Malachi Pearson) is a kind young ghost who peacefully haunts a mansion in Maine. When specialist James Harvey (Bill Pullman) arrives to communicate with Casper and his fellow spirits, he brings along his teenage daughter, Kat (Christina Ricci). Casper quickly falls in love with Kat, but their budding relationship is complicated not only by his transparent state, but also by his troublemaking apparition uncles and their mischievous antics.
Oct. 16th: A Nightmare on Elm Street
In Wes Craven's classic slasher film, several Midwestern teenagers fall prey to Freddy Krueger (Robert Englund), a disfigured midnight mangler who preys on the teenagers in their dreams -- which, in turn, kills them in reality. After investigating the phenomenon, Nancy (Heather Langenkamp) begins to suspect that a dark secret kept by her and her friends' parents may be the key to unraveling the mystery, but can Nancy and her boyfriend Glen (Johnny Depp) solve the puzzle before it's too late?
Oct. 17th: Ghostbusters
After the members of a team of scientists (Harold Ramis, Dan Aykroyd, Bill Murray) lose their cushy positions at a university in New York City, they decide to become "ghostbusters" to wage a high-tech battle with the supernatural for money. They stumble upon a gateway to another dimension, a doorway that will release evil upon the city. The Ghostbusters must now save New York from complete destruction.
Oct. 18th: The Mummy
The Mummy is a rousing, suspenseful and horrifying epic about an expedition of treasure-seeking explorers in the Sahara Desert in 1925. Stumbling upon an ancient tomb, the hunters unwittingly set loose a 3,000-year-old legacy of terror, which is embodied in the vengeful reincarnation of an Egyptian priest who had been sentenced to an eternity as one of the living dead.
Oct. 19th: Carrie
In this chilling adaptation of Stephen King's horror novel, withdrawn and sensitive teen Carrie White (Sissy Spacek) faces taunting from classmates at school and abuse from her fanatically pious mother (Piper Laurie) at home. When strange occurrences start happening around Carrie, she begins to suspect that she has supernatural powers. Invited to the prom by the empathetic Tommy Ross (William Katt), Carrie tries to let her guard down, but things eventually take a dark and violent turn.
Oct. 20th: Scream
Wes Craven re-invented and revitalised the slasher-horror genre with this modern horror classic, which manages to be funny, clever and scary, as a fright-masked knife maniac stalks high-school students in middle-class suburbia. Craven is happy to provide both tension and self-parody as the body count mounts - but the victims aren't always the ones you'd expect.
Oct. 21st: Rosemary’s Baby
A young wife comes to believe that her offspring is not of this world. Waifish Rosemary Woodhouse (Mia Farrow) and her struggling actor husband Guy (John Cassavetes) move to a New York City apartment building with an ominous reputation and odd neighbors Roman and Minnie Castavet (Sidney Blackmer, Ruth Gordon). When Rosemary becomes pregnant she becomes increasingly isolated, and the diabolical truth is revealed only after Rosemary gives birth.
Oct. 22nd: Friday the 13th
Crystal Lake's history of murder doesn't deter counselors from setting up a summer camp in the woodsy area. Superstitious locals warn against it, but the fresh-faced young people -- Jack (Kevin Bacon), Alice (Adrienne King), Bill (Harry Crosby), Marcie (Jeannine Taylor) and Ned (Mark Nelson) -- pay little heed to the old-timers. Then they find themselves stalked by a brutal killer. As they're slashed, shot and stabbed, the counselors struggle to stay alive against a merciless opponent.
Oct. 23rd: Bram Stoker’s Dracula
Count Dracula, a 15th-century prince, is condemned to live off the blood of the living for eternity. Young lawyer Jonathan Harker is sent to Dracula's castle to finalise a land deal, but when the Count sees a photo of Harker's fiancée, Mina, the spitting image of his dead wife, he imprisons him and sets off for London to track her down.
Oct. 24th: The Sixth Sense
Young Cole Sear (Haley Joel Osment) is haunted by a dark secret: he is visited by ghosts. Cole is frightened by visitations from those with unresolved problems who appear from the shadows. He is too afraid to tell anyone about his anguish, except child psychologist Dr. Malcolm Crowe (Bruce Willis). As Dr. Crowe tries to uncover the truth about Cole's supernatural abilities, the consequences for client and therapist are a jolt that awakens them both to something unexplainable.
Oct. 25th: The Conjuring
In 1970, paranormal investigators and demonologists Lorraine (Vera Farmiga) and Ed (Patrick Wilson) Warren are summoned to the home of Carolyn (Lili Taylor) and Roger (Ron Livingston) Perron. The Perrons and their five daughters have recently moved into a secluded farmhouse, where a supernatural presence has made itself known. Though the manifestations are relatively benign at first, events soon escalate in horrifying fashion, especially after the Warrens discover the house's macabre history.
Oct. 26th: Pet Sematery
Doctor Louis Creed (Dale Midkiff) moves his family to Maine, where he meets a friendly local named Jud Crandall (Fred Gwynne). After the Creeds' cat is accidentally killed, Crandall advises Louis to bury it in the ground near the old pet cemetery. The cat returns to life, its personality changed for the worse. When Louis' son, Gage (Miko Hughes), dies tragically, Louis decides to bury the boy's body in the same ground despite the warnings of Crandall and Louis' visions of a deceased patient.
Oct. 27th: Children of the Corn
As physician Burt Stanton (Peter Horton) and his girlfriend, Vicky (Linda Hamilton), drive across the Midwest to his new job, their trip comes to a sudden halt when they encounter the body of a murdered boy in the road. In trying to contact the authorities, Burt and Vicky wander into a small town populated only by children, followers of sinister young preacher Isaac Chroner (John Franklin). Soon the couple is fleeing the youthful fanatics, who want to sacrifice them to their demonic deity.
Oct. 28th: Monster House
No adults believe three youths' (Mitchel Musso, Spencer Locke, Sam Lerner) assertion that a neighboring residence is a living creature that means them harm. With Halloween approaching, the trio must find a way to destroy the structure before innocent trick-or-treaters meet ghastly ends.
Oct. 29th: Misery
After a serious car crash, novelist Paul Sheldon (James Caan) is rescued by former nurse Annie Wilkes (Kathy Bates), who claims to be his biggest fan. Annie brings him to her remote cabin to recover, where her obsession takes a dark turn when she discovers Sheldon is killing off her favorite character from his novels. As Sheldon devises plans for escape, Annie grows increasingly controlling, even violent, as she forces the author to shape his writing to suit her twisted fantasies.
Oct. 30th: Poltergeist
Strange and creepy happenings beset an average California family, the Freelings -- Steve (Craig T. Nelson), Diane (JoBeth Williams), teenaged Dana (Dominique Dunne), eight-year-old Robbie (Oliver Robins), and five-year-old Carol Ann (Heather O'Rourke) -- when ghosts commune with them through the television set. Initially friendly and playful, the spirits turn unexpectedly menacing, and, when Carol Ann goes missing, Steve and Diane turn to a parapsychologist and eventually an exorcist for help.
Oct. 31st: Buffy the Vampire Slayer
For Buffy Summers (Kristy Swanson), nothing is the same after she meets Merrick Jamison-Smythe (Donald Sutherland). Merrick tells the teen that he's been sent to train her to fight vampires, and he proves himself by displaying his supernatural powers. Buffy is a quick study, and soon takes fellow student Oliver Pike (Luke Perry) under her wing, repeatedly saving him from fierce bloodsuckers. But, when a very dangerous vampire (Rutger Hauer) gets rambunctious, she must go to war again.

Oct. 2nd: The Addams Family
“My darling, let me hear it!” Saeyoung begged his beautiful wife.
“Mon amour." MC smirked, holding out her arm.
“Ah, your French is so divine!” Saeyoung took her arm, holding her wrist delicately and kissing her creamy flesh, moving up her arm to her neck where he nibbled. A sigh escaped her throat at the intimate act.
“Can you not!” Saeran rolled his eyes while Yoosung snickered at his side.
“Oh come on, we’re just having some fun.”
“Movie night was a mistake!” Saeran complained.
“I think it’s sweet. I know the Addam’s family is creepy, but the way Gomez loves Morticia is so romantic!” Yoosung sighed, making Saeran feel funny again.
“Romantic?” he scoffed.
“I agree.” MC said, patting Saeran on the cheek. “You could use a little romance in your life Saeran.” She said, pointedly looking towards Yoosung, who was oblivious.
Saeran turned bright red, almost matching his hair. “Yeah, right.” He deflected and walked into the kitchen.
“Come my love, let’s leave these people and make love until morning!” he grabbed MC’s hand and swung her into his body, pressing her back against his front. He nibbled her ear and they danced down the hallway to their bedroom.
MC laughed and waved at Yoosung, who just shook his head, wishing he had someone who loved him that way too. He envied them but was also happy that they had each other. He sighed again and fell onto the sofa. He’d worried about coming to movie night, knowing it was close to Halloween and the Chois would probably be watching horror movies. But the Addams Family was actually more about family and familial love than horror. It was a good choice.
Saeran plopped down next to him and handed him a bowl of ice cream. He’d added sprinkles, nuts, banana slices, and hot fudge. Saeran was always prepared well for ice cream. He felt special seeing how the older man had remembered all the things he liked in his ice cream. He took it gratefully. “Thank you.”
Saeran grunted in response, his own bowl in his other hand. He reached for the remote.
“Wanna’ watch it again?” he asked. “Or we can watch something else.”
“Can we watch Halloweentown?” he asked excitedly. Saeran flushed as Yoosung settled back into the sofa, his body pressed to his side.
“Uh, I’m not sure we have that, let me see.” He flipped through their digital movie library and found it. Of course Saeyoung would have every single Halloween movie there was. He pressed play and set the remote back on the coffee table.
Yoosung broke into a grin. Saeran’s warmth was comforting, without realizing it, he snuggled closer to him, his head on his shoulder as he slowly ate his ice cream.
The red-head tensed as he felt Yoosung actively touching him. His head on his shoulder felt like molten lava. How was the blond so oblivious to the affect he had on him? Affected him so much so that his bowl of ice cream sat on his lap completely forgotten.
“Is something wrong with your ice cream?” Yoosung asked, noticing how full the bowl was once he himself had finished his.
“No, I just…I’m not hungry.” Saeran choked out, gluing his eyes to the movie, completely unaware of what was happening in it.
“Not hungry? For ice cream?” Yoosung laughed and held the back of his hand against Saeran’s forehead. “Are you sick?”
“Stop it!” Saeran shoved Yoosung’s hand away, but there was a smile on his face. He placed his bowl on the coffee table and sat back, hoping Yoosung would lean against him again.
“Is that a smile? Oh my goodness, the rare moody Saeran smile! I’m honored!” Yoosung joked. He giggled, almost like a schoolgirl, making Saeran’s blood heat up in a good way. He felt sweat breaking out all over his body and tried to shake it off before the blond noticed.
Yoosung leaned back into the sofa and snuggled close to Saeran, wrapping his arm around the other man’s.
“Must be nice huh?” he said, suddenly serious.
“Nice?” Saeran swallowed, his mind too muddled to think.
“Having someone love you that much.” He answered.
“You mean Gomez and Morticia? I don’t know, seems like infatuation, not love.”
“What do you mean?”
“Real love isn’t always that passionate. It’s a lot of work. Sure, in the beginning of a relationship it’s all lovey dovey, sex all over the house, can’t keep your hands off each other, but that dims. I mean, nobody can keep that up. It’s not healthy I don’t think. But the love grows into something more, something lasting, something better.”
“Better than sex all over the place?” Yoosung teased.
“Yeah, exactly. Not that I’m saying there’s anything wrong with sex all over the place.” Saeran grinned, squeezing Yoosung’s hand.
“I wouldn’t know.” He said softly. “But I think I like your idea of love better.”
“Me too.” Saeran whispered into the blond’s hair as they settled in to finish watching the movie.

Oct 1st: HOCUS POCUS
“Go ahead Yoosung, we all know you’re still a virgin.” Saeyoung laughed as he pushed Yoosung towards the black flame candle.
“Ha ha, very funny!” Yoosung shoved Saeyoung back and clutched onto Saeran. The brothers were twins, but their personalities were almost polar opposites. Saeyoung was a joker who didn’t know when to quit but Saeran was quiet and shy. They had been friends for as long as he could remember, and while he loved Saeyoung, there were times when he wanted to punch him in the face.
Saeran was different of course. Yoosung had begun to have romantic feelings for him as a middle schooler and they just seemed to have drifted closer and closer until it was inevitable that they were a couple. It was never formalized, spoken, or confirmed in any way except by their actions. He held onto Saeran’s arm now, trying to hide his embarrassment. He knew for a fact that Saeran was also a virgin, and that Saeyoung was not. Not that he bragged, but he seemed to use sex to numb his emotional pain.
“Knock it off Saeyoung.” Saeran rolled his eyes as he pulled Yoosung closer to him. It was intriguing he had to admit. They’d never been in the museum before but growing up in town they’d all heard the legend of the Sanderson sisters. He stepped up to the thick black book of spells that was on a pedestal behind glass. It was open to a spell that summoned a familiar. The museum itself had been closed since before they had been born, but there was a way in that the local kids had always known about. He was actually surprised there weren’t any kids here now, it being Halloween night. But he figured the novelty of the Sanderson sisters had pretty much worn off.
They were only here because Saeyoung had kept pestering them. Saeran had always been too scared to come when he was younger. Yoosung would have never come without Saeran as well. It had been a couple of years since Saeran had been scared of anything. When he was young, he had been afraid of everything and everyone, but he’d matured and with his brother and Yoosung’s help, he’d learned how to take care of himself.
“How about you little brother? Care to give it a try? Don’t you want to see the Sanderson sisters?” Saeyoung took out a lighter and flicked it on, hovering over the large candle.
Saeran rolled his eyes. “Don’t be ridiculous.”
“Idiot!” Yoosung shoved at Saeyoung. The red head stumbled into the candle, the fire in his hand touching the wick and causing it to ignite.
“Whoops!” Saeyoung said, shrugging, beginning to grin. That’s when they heard the cackling. It surrounded them, swirling around and rising in tempo. In front of them appeared three female figures. Three brunettes. The Sanderson sisters, Jaehee, MC, and Lillie.
“I thought you weren’t a virgin!” Yoosung squeaked, realizing what had happened.
Saeyoung shrugged.

Oct. 4th: The Nightmare before Christmas
“I am the Pumpkin King!” Saeyoung declared to the crowd bellow him. They cheered. He noticed MC in the back, there was something about her that always made him feel serene. It was an odd feeling. He had no time for those feelings, however. It was time to start planning for next Halloween. And the one after that, and the one after that…forever. He sighed as he turned to go back into his castle.
MC sighed; her stitching itched but she ignored it. He looked so sad. She wished she could do something to make him smile. Lately, he hadn’t had the same vibrancy during Halloween as in years past. She wondered what weighed so heavily on his mind. As the crowd dispersed, she meandered around the fence, watching as lights came on inside the castle. Holding on to the bars she stared as the light in the highest room came on. Saeyoung’s silhouette came into view, and she took a deep breath as the curtains were thrown open and he stood there in all his glory.
It was ridiculous really, falling in love with the Pumpkin king. She was nothing, nobody, stitched together from a graveyard of body parts. Her creator, V, preferred for her to belong to him and only him. She sighed yet again and walked away. No use obsessing about something she could never have. Her life, such as it was, did not belong to her.
Saeyoung watched her walk away, noticing how her head hung low. She glanced back once before disappearing behind a building. He momentarily hated that building. Why did he continue to keep her at arm’s length when she so clearly cared for him? For her own good? Or for his? V would certainly not approve, though as the Pumpkin king he could demand he hand her over. The thought recoiled in his mind. She was not an object.
Shaking MC from his mind he tried to relax. It had been a long night. Halloween had been a success and he was proud of the people in his town who made it wonderful. But he was feeling dissatisfied. It was too easy, there was no challenge. Not that there needed to be. Making Halloween spooky and creepy was his job after all. The shrieks of children and adults alike were like music to his ears. And still…
He paced his room, restless, unable to unwind. He grabbed his cloak and headed out, walking into the forest, his mind chaotic, like a hurricane swirling every single thought in his head. There was something lacking in his life, but what? The more he thought about it, the less he understood, until there was nothing but an emptiness that seemed would never be filled. Suddenly he walked into a clearing he’d never seen before. The snow was perfectly white and pristine. He realized he stood in the middle of a circle of very large trees. On them there were oval doors with paintings of different things. There was a rabbit and colored eggs on one, a pine tree with baubles on another, and so on. Curious, he reached for the door handle on the pine tree door, opening it and hurriedly stepping through. Something new. Something exciting. A new adventure in his hum drum life.

Oct 6th: Beetlejuice
“I’m sorry, but rules are rules.” Jaehee pushed her glasses across the bridge of her nose and gazed at the woman standing before her.
“But the rules make no sense! Are you sure? Can you check again?” MC was frantic, this couldn’t be happening to her, she was way to young to be dead.
Jaehee sighed and checked her records once again. “MC?” she asked.
“Yes, that’s me.”
“Age 24?”
“Yes yes.” She wrung her hands, her brown eyes wide and confused.
“It says here you fell down a flight of stairs, breaking your neck on the way down. Death was instantaneous.” She looked back up at the woman. She felt empathy but there was nothing to be done.
“I fell yes, I remember that, but…it was such a short flight of stairs, I couldn’t have died! This has to be a weird dream.”
“I’m afraid not. You are in fact dead.”
“You’re telling me that when we die we end up in a waiting room?”
“Not always, it depends on where you die. Unfortunately, there is indeed a waiting time in order to haunt the particular home you died in. However, you may bypass this step if you wish.”
“Bypass?”
“Certainly, if you accept your death, have no unfinished business, and care to pass on, you may go through the pearly gates door.” She pointed to a large ornate door to her right.
“W…were does that lead?” she hesitantly asked.
“It depends on how you lived your life. You won’t know until you pass through.”
“Can’t you tell me? Doesn’t it say there?” MC pointed to the ledger in Jaehee’s hands.
“I’m afraid not. I have no access to that information. Nobody does.”
“This can’t be happening!” she dragged her fingers through the thick strands of her reddish brown hair and began to hyperventilate.
Jaehee cleared her throat. She was used to newcomers being in denial, running the gamit from ‘this is a dream’ to ‘how do I get back’. But something about this woman was different. There was a pull on her heart. Sure, she was attractive, but she’d seen many attractive people come and go. So what was it? She tried to fall back on her professionalism. There was nothing to be done, the woman was dead and that would not change.
Instead, she stood and walked around her desk to the woman and wrapped her arms around her. She stiffened for a second before relaxing into the hug. The woman grasped at her and began to sob.
“It’s not fair! I had so many dreams!”
“I know, I’m so sorry. If there was a way, I would send you back.” Jaehee whispered into her thick hair.
“But there isn’t. Is there? I’m stuck here forever.”
“Well, being here isn’t so bad.” She pulled away from the woman and wiped her tears away gently. They stared at each other, Jaehee’s heart beating too fast, way too fast for someone who was dead. How many centuries had she been the receptionist of Limbo? And not once had she fallen for a newly dead person. But here they were. The woman smiled at her, a little sad, but there did seem to be some hope in her eyes.

Oct 5: Edward Scissorhands
He scurried to a corner and tried to hide, but the girl approached anyway. His silver white hair was tangled and dirty, he’d tried to come it, but with his scissor hands. The man who’d created him had died unexpectedly and he had been left alone, unfinished. Zen was afraid, but not of the girl, he was afraid of what he might do to her.
“Oh you poor boy! How long have you been living here alone?” MC asked, approaching him slowly so that she wouldn’t scare him. He tried to huddle in on himself and she could see that he shivered. His complexion was almost like marble, like a statue found in a museum, but his crimson eyes showed dark circles, as if he hadn’t slept well in ages. From what she could tell, he was slim and tall.
Zen could see she was kind. Her brown eyes radiated empathy. He must look ghastly, but she didn’t appear to be afraid, in fact, it appeared as if she thought he might be afraid of her. Maybe he was. His creator had never let him meet anyone else. Even now, he wasn’t sure he should speak. But what else could he do? He’d been found, and he wouldn’t last much longer if he stayed here alone.
He shrugged but didn’t say a word.
“You must be starving.” She said and smiled. “Would you like to come home with me?” she asked. She had already called 911 and the police were on their way, with an ambulance. The body of the man who owned the house was in what she assumed was the study. She had started stopping by to bring the man newpapers that she gathered at the beginning of the month. He paid her well for one day worth of work. When he hadn’t answered the doorbell, she’d checked and found the door unlocked.
The body hadn’t come as a surprise, the man was fairly old, what had surprised her was a sudden scurrying of feet above her head. She’d always assumed, as everyone else in town, that he lived alone. And now here she was, trying to coax a strange man, who looked as if he’d been stitched together, with scissors for hands, out of the corner he coward in.
His crimson eyes darted around the empty attic. There was a blanket on the floor and a flat pillow. He must have been sleeping here.
“It’s ok, come with me. I won’t hurt you. Mr. Kim is…gone…uh…he won’t be coming back.” She held her hand out invitingly. The frightened man stepped closer, reaching out with his own hand. She had a moment of fear that he would cut her, but he was incredibly gentle, placing his hand in hers, scissors closed tight. When he stopped crouching, she was amazed to see how tall he was, his alabaster face gazing down at her in bewilderment. He was still a bit hesitant, but willingly followed her out.
She had to calm him down considerably when the sirens grew louder as the police and ambulance arrived. He was much better when they turned off the sound. He wouldn’t answer any questions and it seemed as if they might arrest him then and there, but the coroner declared the man appeared to have had a heart attack.
MC vouched to take care of the man and they let her take him.
