twst overblot pt 1 . a rant (spoilers ahead if u somehow haven't finished book 1 yet??)

i find the difference between each overblot and the details on their design so interesting.

riddle doesn't overblot until around the 24th chapter, and considering that book 1 has 31 chapters, that's a PREETTYY long build up alright. it just shows how much restraint he has—even though he's literally hiding a huge amount of anger beneath all that. the pacing is already such a great detail. it really shows that he's trying to get it together before he finally snaps.

his overblot design is great, too. but i especially want to talk about his clothes.

the white rose fading into black? AMAZING. SPECTACULAR. it's clearly tainted with blot, but it also symbolizes how pure and innocent riddle used to be as a child—before his mother forced him down this strict, suffocating path. it's like we're seeing his corrupted childhood in visual form omg???

the heart on his chest with black cages(??) around it is great!! it looks like his heart is sealed away from others—he's closed off and refuses to listen to trey or anyone else because he's clinging to what he thinks is "right." to what his mother taught him is right.

THE BLOT TAINTED HANDS TOO WJJSJSHS i am 😌🙏 it clearly shows that his hands are tainted because he's used magic for the wrong reasons. he's dirtying himself by enforcing control and punishment under the guise of order.

the heart symbol around his neck is a great touch too😍😍😍 it's kinda making it look as if riddle's magic backfires on him, and he's the one collared now—which is ironic, given how often he collars others instead.

and don't even get me STARRTEEDDD on the phantom behind him... not only is it literally the queen of hearts, but it also resembles his mother!! idk if every single phantom floats like that, but with the way this one hovers behind him feels SO intentional—as if his mother is literally looming behind him, constantly watching and dictating what he thinks or does.

i find it absolutely fascinating/cool at how each dorm room in twst really shows each character's personality. lilia's dorm room is incredibly messy, and it has so many random things that don't even have the same color theme as diasomnia, lol.

it's messy and unorganized, too. it really shows that he's 700 years old and has been traveling the world back when he was young. in book 7, when silver and sebek were helping lilia clean his room before the farewell party, silver also found a lot of things that were already outdated.
