A few of them start similarly, like the four that I pointed out. Then there are two starting with direct speech and a few starting with very short or only one-word sentences. Honestly, I don't really think too much about how to start a story because that's usually the easiest thing for me to do - to write the beginning. I just go with whatever pops up in my head when I start writing. I hope it's interesting enough to keep people reading but that's not for me to judge, so you tell me! :) Another thought that just crossed my mind is, why do most of my titles sound so lame? ;_; (It's truly one of the most difficult things when writing, if I don't know the title from the beginning, it's a struggle until the very end when I put the fic on AO3) Tagging some of my writer friends (no pressure to do this but I'd love to see it!) @tehalex3-blog, @radiodread, @berrynthewood and... I think my other writer friends aren't on here or I forgot their handles, sorry. Whoever comes across this and wants to play along, please feel free to do so!

From Natsuya's point of view, of course! It took him a long time to find himself (after looking in a lot of wrong places), and the road always seemed to lead right back to Nao.

Now all he has to do is convince Nao that he's still worth taking a chance on.

i think i might have dreamt sending this but if you had to rewrite ewoatt what would you do with characters like hiyori izusu kaede or (looks at smudged writing on my hand) albert?

hehe you sent it, i’ve just been a busy bee 💛 thank you for your patience with this ask!!

i’m technically rewriting ewoatt right now, just as an original series! and i do love a big cast but the original has less characters than the fic. roles have switched a little too, but nothing too crazy. for example, the “Makoto” character has a new role that puts him closer to the action and more involved with the plot. he still represents a stark contrast of a better life for haru, but the career change allows him a more central role :)

i will say that in the first book of the original series, which is based on the natsunao prequel events - the “hiyori” character is present from the beginning. ryuuji and mikhail have more central roles and later, there’s also an “isuzu” type character in the series.

if i rewrote ewoatt as a fic, though - i won’t pretend i haven’t thought about that A Lot lol. that’s been a VERY thrilling concept for me since my style and skills have changed over the years, and i’ve wondered how i’d twist things around or how aspects of the story would stay the same

most everyone would be present from the start, including the likes of isuzu and makoto. i know where i’d put albert and kaede too. there’s some rearranging i could do to make all that happen in fic world, since i’ve already had to sort of rotate the timeline of things anyway for the original lolol

i don’t want to ramble since i’m excited about all the above aksjfh but yeah in summary: everyone would be there in a rewritten fic and the action, the angst, the rivalries and found family would be introduced differently but still the same at heart 💛

For as long as Nao had known Natsuya, he could count on one hand the amount of times his long time best friend (read: crush) had actually managed to baffle him to the point of silence. He knows himself he hadn't made it know just how much he was in love with the other, not wanting to tie him down to being in Tokyo with him while their careers took them in separate directions.

But for Natsuya to suggest taking him on a date for real instead of meeting up usually at a bar together to eat fancy steak and have a beer, wasn't something he'd ever thought would happen some time soon. He pushes up his glasses slightly to hide the faint blush dusting his cheeks.

"So, the usual? Or do you plan on taking me to somewhere much fancier than this?"

Nao answers, softly.

"Was this a practice run for you or something Natsuya? I knew you to have been shy in middle school, but not still today."

also i’ve been losing my mind recently over makoharu and natsunao trainer/athlete comparisons and here’s a little thing i was thinking about:

cute: makoto shyly asking nao if he misses natsuya when he’s away, and nao understanding that makoto misses haru and needs a little reassurance

also cute: makoto and nao getting drunk and emotional together about missing their boyfriends and leaving them sappy voicemails

(nao will later reveal to makoto that haru apparently asked natsuya if it’s difficult being apart from nao. natsuya’s response was “of course it’s not easy! but if you miss makoto just call him!”)
