What is the forgetting curve and how do you combat it?
The Forgetting Curve shows the process by which forgetting occurs. It demonstrates that if we learn something new, but then make no attempt to revise that information, we remember less and less of it as the hours, days and weeks go by. The forgetting curve is a memory model created by German psychologist Hermann Ebbinghaus. In fact, according to the curve, you forget:
50% of all new information within a day.
90% of all new information within a week.
HOW TO BEAT THE FORGETTING CURVE:
1) USE SPACED REPETITION
The easiest way to overcome the forgetting curve is by using spaced repetition. This means to reinforce your knowledge of whatever you are learning, by reviewing constantly at periodic intervals. There are multiple techniques such as flash cards, active recall and blurting.
2) OVER-LEARNING AND CLARITY
This means using far more intensive memory techniques to put more amount of effort in whatever subject that you are learning. This enables deep work and broadens your understanding, which creates clarity.
3)KEEP THINGS RELEVANT
This means to make an effort to make the material that you need, to be clear, concise and meaningful without anything that is irrelevant from an exam point of view. This involves also using various techniques for your notes. Rather than writing everything down in lengthy text formats, present information in diagrams or graphics where possible. This makes it easier to learn and improves retention.
4)MAKE LEARNING MORE INTERACTIVE
People learn better when they’re actively involved than when they’re just passive observers. This involves using various resources and gamifying your learning experience through flash cards, mini quizzes and mock tests to reinforce your learning and making it engaging.
Love,
Mith<3

Why 12th Board Exams Matter
The board examination 12th is more than just a set of tests—it’s your stepping stone to future academic and professional opportunities. Your board exam scores play a major role in:
College admissions (especially for top universities)
Competitive exam eligibility (IIT-JEE, NEET, CUET, etc.)
Scholarship applications
Building a strong academic profile
This makes it all the more essential to approach the exam with a foolproof strategy.
Step-by-Step Guide: How to Prepare for 12th Board Exam
1. Understand the Syllabus & Exam Pattern
Before you start solving problems or reading chapters, get a deep understanding of the syllabus and question paper pattern.
✅ Download the latest syllabus from the official board website ✅ Go through the marking scheme ✅ Identify important and frequently asked topics
🔍 Tip from Mentors Eduserv: Highlight units with high weightage and create a study map accordingly.
2. Create a Realistic & Productive Timetable
A well-planned timetable is the backbone of successful 12th board exam preparation. Make sure your study plan is:
Time-bound (set daily/weekly goals)
Balanced (don’t ignore any subject)
Flexible (account for revision and breaks)
🕒 Mentors Eduserv Tip: Use the 50-10 rule: 50 minutes of focused study, followed by a 10-minute break.
3. Use NCERT Books as Your Base
No matter which board you're from (CBSE, ISC, State Boards), NCERT textbooks are the holy grail for core understanding, especially in Science and Mathematics.
📘 Don’t skip the “Do You Know” and “Exercises” sections 📘 Solve in-text and end-of-chapter questions religiously
4. Supplement with Quality Study Material
While NCERT is your base, supplement your preparation with reference books and study materials.
For example:
Physics: HC Verma, SL Arora
Chemistry: OP Tandon, Pradeep
Maths: RD Sharma, RS Aggarwal
Commerce & Humanities: Arihant, Oswaal series
📚 At Mentors Eduserv, we provide handpicked notes, expert-curated question banks, and concept boosters designed to match your board syllabus.
5. Practice with Previous Years’ Papers & Mock Tests
One of the most effective ways to prepare for the 12th board exam is by solving past years’ papers and mock exams.
🎯 Helps you understand exam trends 🎯 Improves time management 🎯 Boosts your writing speed and confidence
✍️ Mentors Eduserv Bonus: We conduct weekly mock tests and live paper discussion sessions to simulate the actual exam environment.
6. Focus on Conceptual Clarity Over Rote Learning
Avoid cramming. Understand why a formula works or how a concept applies in real life. This approach ensures long-term retention and better marks in application-based questions.
🔎 Use diagrams, mind maps, and flowcharts 🔎 Teach a friend or explain a topic aloud to test your understanding
7. Revision is the Game Changer
Start revising at least two months before the exam. Make summary notes and flashcards for quick recaps.
📝 Revise daily: 30% of your time 📝 Weekly subject-wise revision marathons 📝 Don’t forget formulas, dates, and definitions
✅ Mentors Eduserv’s rapid revision capsules are a student favorite—quick, powerful, and easy to retain!
8. Take Care of Your Mind and Body
Your brain performs best when your body is well-rested and your mind is calm.
💤 Sleep 7–8 hours a night 🍎 Eat balanced meals and stay hydrated 🧘 Try meditation or light exercise to stay stress-free
💡 Remember: A healthy mind learns better. Prioritize your mental well-being.

How to study for long hours/
I find it easier to study with the pomodoro method, where you focus for 25 minutes at least and then take a break.
However during exam preparation or whenever we have situations where there’s a lot of portions to cover, focusing is really hard. We often get distracted by our phones and devices as well as social media.
So I introduce my favourite life changing app!

I LOVE LOVE LOVE this app, it’s available on both android and iOS.
It basically has a feature where you can choose the apps you want for studying and the rest of the apps are blocked.
It also has a study log where it basically tracks how long you study for a subject.
It allows me to use the apps that I WANT for studying as well as block social media. It reduces my screen time and distractions immensely and I’m able to focus much better !
(Ps- this is not sponsored)
I hope this helps!
Love,
Mith <3

Are NCERT Books Enough for Cracking NEET 2025 Exam?
He National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) is one of the most competitive medical entrance exams in India, requiring a well-rounded preparation strategy. A common question among aspirants is whether NCERT books are sufficient to crack the NEET 2025 exam. While NCERT books are undeniably foundational, there are specific considerations that students should keep in mind to make the most of these resources.
Importance of NCERT Books for Competitive Exams
NCERT textbooks for Physics, Chemistry, and Biology are considered the gold standard for NEET preparation. These books are recommended by experts and toppers alike for their clear explanations, concise language, and strong alignment with the NEET syllabus. In fact, nearly 70-75% of the questions in NEET are directly or indirectly based on NCERT content, especially for Biology.
NCERT books for competitive exams are designed to provide conceptual clarity, which is crucial for answering NEET’s application-based questions. They help students build a strong foundation, particularly in Biology, where diagrams, tables, and definitions form the core of exam questions. The text is concise yet informative, making it easier for students to grasp concepts effectively.
Why NCERT May Not Be Enough Alone
Although NCERT books are indispensable, relying solely on them may not be enough for NEET aspirants aiming for top scores. This is because NEET tests students not only on conceptual clarity but also on their ability to solve complex, multi-step problems and tricky application-based questions. Subjects like Physics and Chemistry often require supplementary practice from advanced resources to master problem-solving techniques.
Physics: NCERT provides basic theoretical knowledge, but additional practice from advanced books like HC Verma or DC Pandey is often necessary to tackle higher-order questions.
Chemistry: Organic and Inorganic Chemistry can largely be covered through NCERT, but for Physical Chemistry, additional resources like P. Bahadur are helpful for numerical problem-solving.
Biology: While NCERT is the bible for NEET Biology, aspirants must also solve question banks and previous year papers to cover conceptual variations.
Supplementing NCERT with Practice
To complement NCERT books for competitive exams, students should incorporate other resources like question banks, mock tests, and video lectures. Regularly practicing NEET-level mock tests ensures familiarity with the exam pattern and helps improve time management.
Additionally, aspirants can consider NCERT foundation courses for UPSC or similar competitive exams for a multidisciplinary approach. These courses dive deeper into NCERT concepts and are beneficial for students aiming to strengthen their understanding of fundamentals. Similarly, the NCERT course for UPSC preparation provides detailed insights that can be indirectly useful for mastering problem-solving skills required for NEET.
CONCLUSION
NCERT books are an essential part of NEET preparation, particularly for Biology, but they are not a standalone solution for cracking the exam. A strategic combination of NCERT textbooks, additional reference books, and consistent practice is crucial for scoring well. By mastering NCERT and supplementing it with advanced resources, NEET 2025 aspirants can set themselves up for success in one of the most challenging exams in the country.
Prepare strategically, stay consistent, and make the most of the NCERT books for competitive exams—they are the backbone of your journey toward NEET success.

You know why we're not on board about the syllabus changes? Because when we were told our schools will now focus on real Indian history, we thought it meant the local history, in depth accounts of the freedom movements from real historians. Through art work, poetry by artists from India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Srilanka that recounts the horrors and events of the freedom movement. That talks about the real India before things were anglified. Mughal History, the Portugese and French occupations in parts of India, a more detailed account of British atrocities that does not just brush them under the rug. About Nalanda University, Indus Valley Civilisation, etc.
I thought this is what my juniors will learn. Unbiased history and polity that does not teach communalism in a good light, that tells you why we need secularism, why we need democracy, why we need to do our research before picking a government.
And instead we get biased crap that feeds propaganda, erases actual history and rewrites it in a way that's convenient for the current government. This is absolutely dystopian.

Uttar Pradesh’s Madrasa Reform Push: Balancing Tradition with Modern Education
The Uttar Pradesh government, under Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, is preparing to introduce sweeping reforms to the state's madrasas—Islamic seminaries that provide religious and basic education to a significant section of Muslim youth. These changes, aimed at modernizing the curriculum, come in the form of proposed amendments to the Uttar Pradesh Board of Madrasa Education Act, 2004. The move seeks to blend religious education with mainstream academic subjects and vocational training—a strategy that is both ambitious and contentious.
