Your favorite sea creatures are in despair. Recycling is a step forward, but you should consider buying less stuff. Consumption is the worst way to sparkle joy, try to discover what truly makes you happy! Go on a hike, take dancing lessons, learn to draw, read a book! Organize a movie night with friends, or play boardgames, learn to crochet, or to play an instrument, volunteer for a good cause! If you find something that you're passionate about, I guarantee you will feel more fulfilled than getting the newest iPhone, drinking some fancy bottled water or buying another stuffed animal for your kid. If you're still accepting questions about the Smith Sibling swap, can you tell us more about Inferno? The plot, where will the ninjas go and will Kai become fire?
Inferno is the season in which I take the most creative liberty!!! I was super vague about this season and Rebirth before, but now, even though I still plan to make something of this au, I know that a couple of spoilers won't murder the enjoyment down the line, so I'm happy to give details!!
Instead of this being a Nya and Jay season, it will focus on Kai and Cole, actually! It will begin with a pretty worldwide phenomenon of sudden forest fires, volcanic eruptions, and a sudden, unexplained heatwave. (And it's actually NOT a result of climate change in the Ninjago universe!) Cole says he can feel what almost seems like a heartbeat within the earth itself. After some clever calculations, the ninja are able to determine that the fires and eruptions actually correspond to almost a direction of sorts? Like they can estimate where the next disaster will be using the past ones. They track it to the epicenter of all of the issues and find themselves at the Heart of the World, a supervolcano located at a point similar to Point Nemo in our world, but with an island there, and the volcano itself is actually exposed to the surface, unlike the supervolcano under our Yellowstone. Essentially, this volcano is set to be so destructive, like NOBODY on earth would survive. I think I'll probably have Wu bring up a prophecy that says the whole world will engulf itself in flames at the hands of the wrathful and righteous or something of the sort. Essentially, the ninja happen upon a series of intricate tunnels in the walls of the volcano, within which they find a MASSIVE FUCKING DRAGON. Now, it's not a source dragon, but it's something different, but equally large, maybe even moreso, and evokes a sense of OH SHIT WHAT THE FUCK IS THAT AN ACTUAL FORCE OF NATURE MANIFESTED AS A BEING? Like this huge dragon lives in the molten core of the earth. It IS the molten core of the earth. Now, this dragon is pissed off because it feels like it's been disrespected. It gave humanity (and other such societies on the planet) fire to rejuvenate land, keep warm, heat food, light up the darkness, and hell, even burn the dead as a sign of respect. In modern times, most fire-based things are being replaced with electricity and different manners of doing things, usually tech-focused, and this dragon wants tradition to return, so it intends to burn the whole world up until everything is ash and the gods can build it from the ground up and everybody worships this dragon's fire again.
In this season, Kai will have to confront not only moral dilemmas relating to the maybe-murder maybe-sedation of this world-supporting dragon, but also have to deal with his own traditionalist ideas relating to technology (as a metaphor for change). He'll have to wonder whether or not it's justifiable to use fire the way he does if it's related so closely to such an asshole, as well. Finally, he has to realize that the ninja cant get through to this dragon, and he's the only one with enough connection to fire to stop it, and he literally burns himself up in fire and lava to get himself onto the same spiritual plane as this deluded lava dragon. There, he'll fight to survive while trying to convince the dragon he can fix things, and eventually, he will, and his spirit will merge with the dragon's. He becomes chained down to the core of the earth and similarly comatose to how the dragon had been for millenia leading up to its rude awakening.
(Btw, Cole will regularly visit the center of the earth because he's the one best-suited to survive the depth and literally make himself paths to Kai)

Clownfish shrink their bodies to survive ocean heat waves
By ADITHI RAMAKRISHNAN, AP Science WriterUpdated May 21, 2025 8:41 p.m.

NEW YORK (AP) — To survive warming oceans, clownfish cope by shrinking in size.
Scientists observed that some of the orange-striped fish shrank their bodies during a heat wave off the coast of Papa New Guinea. Fish that slimmed were more likely to survive.
Heat waves are becoming more common and intense underwater due to climate change. Warmer water temperatures can bleach sea anemones that clownfish call home, forcing them to adapt to stay alive.
Scientists monitored and measured 134 colorful clownfish in Kimbe Bay during an intense heat wave in 2023 that's still bleaching corals worldwide. They found that 101 clownfish decreased in length on one or more occasions from heat stress.
“We were really shocked at first when we saw that they were shrinking at all,” said study author Morgan Bennett-Smith with Boston University. The findings were published Wednesday in the journal Science Advances.
Though scientists don’t yet know how clownfish shrink, one idea is that they could be reabsorbing their own bone matter. It’s possible the smaller stature may help the clownfish save energy during a stressful scorch since smaller fish need less food.
Certain clownfish breeding pairs also synced their shrink to boost their survival odds. The females adjusted their size to stay bigger than their partners, keeping the female-dominated social hierarchy intact, researchers said.
Other animals also decrease in size to beat the heat. Marine iguanas get smaller during El Niño events that usher warm waters into the Galapagos. But this coping strategy hadn't yet been spotted in coral reef fish until now.
“This is another tool in the toolbox that fish are going to use to deal with a changing world,” said Simon Thorrold, an ocean ecologist at Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution who was not involved with the new study.
The tactic helps clownfish weather heat waves in the short-term, but it's not yet clear how the fish will fare if they have to keep it up in the years to come, Thorrold said.
Researchers found the shrinking was temporary. Clownfish possessed the ability to “catch up” and grow back when their environment got less stressful, showing how living things are staying flexible to keep up with a warming world, said study author Melissa Versteeg with Newcastle University.
“These natural systems really are under stress, but there's a capacity for incredible resilience,” Versteeg said.
-----
So..."Shrinking Nemo", then.

Fishy facts (pt.2)
Hey I'm Harrish, these little fellas will make you laugh. Let's get right into it.
The Clownfish(Amphiprioninae). It's likely that anyone with kids and a DVD player believes they are experts on the clownfish, also known as the clown anemonefish. They might be unaware, but the main characters of Finding Nemo are referred to as false anemonefish. Although they are almost similar, true anemonefish, Amphiprion percula, differ slightly in appearance and inhabit distinct environments (National Geography). Did You Know? Clownfish are all male at birth. Some people will change their gender later in life to female. But clownfish won't settle in with any old anemone. Out of over 1,000 species of anemone, only about 10 are acceptable hosts. Clownfish are protected against the stinging nematocysts of anemones by the mucous layer on their skin. Clownfish must first gently contact the tentacles of the anemone to get used to its sting before they can dwell inside of it. The host anemone works to ward off possible predators of clownfish because other fish lack the same covering of mucus that protects them.

Clownfish in anemones.
Clownfish and their environment are in danger due to ocean acidification and climate change. Clownfish find it more difficult to perceive sounds and scents that typically aid in their habitat navigation and predator detection as saltwater becomes more acidic. They might exhibit dangerous actions as a result of this (Ocean Conservancy).
Thank you very much for reading. Nice having a fishy-business with you!

Why Zoos Still Matter for Animals Education and Conservation
A zoo is not just a place to look at animals. It’s a space where learning, care, and science come together. For many people, a visit to the zoo is the first time they see animals like lions, elephants, or pandas up close. But behind the scenes, zoos do much more than show animals in enclosures.
Modern zoos focus on education, rescue, and conservation. They help protect endangered species and teach people how animals live and survive.
Zoos Help People Learn About Wildlife
Reading about animals is helpful, but seeing them in real life has a stronger impact. When a child watches a giraffe eating leaves or a tiger pacing through its space, it creates curiosity. They ask questions. They want to know more.
Zoos often have signs, guided tours, and educational events. These explain where animals come from, what they eat, and why they matter. It’s like watching The Jungle Book come to life—but with real facts and real creatures.
Protection for Endangered Animals
Many animals in the wild are at risk because of habitat loss, climate change, and illegal hunting. Zoos act as safe zones. They give endangered animals a chance to live, breed, and sometimes even return to the wild.
For example, the black rhino and Amur leopard have been protected through zoo breeding programs. These efforts are quiet but powerful. They help keep species from disappearing forever.
Zoos Are Also Animal Hospitals
Zoos don’t just display animals—they care for them. Vets, biologists, and zookeepers work every day to make sure the animals are healthy. If an animal is sick or injured, zoos provide treatment.
Some even rescue animals hurt in the wild and give them a second chance. Like the turtle in Finding Nemo, real animals too need rescue and recovery before they can go back to their natural homes—or adapt to a new one.
A New Focus on Better Spaces
Old zoos were not always kind to animals. But today, many zoos build natural-looking habitats with space, shelter, and the right diet. Animals can climb, swim, dig, or rest just like they would in the wild.
Places like the Singapore Zoo or San Diego Zoo are examples of how modern zoos design better environments. These zoos are like wildlife centers—focused on care, not just display.
Zoos Support Science and Research
Scientists use zoos to learn more about animal behavior, health, and genetics. This research helps protect animals both in zoos and in the wild. It also helps in creating better policies for nature conservation.
From studying elephant family bonds to penguin nesting habits, zoos play a key role in wildlife science. It’s like the real-life version of March of the Penguins—but with people helping behind the scenes.
Zoos Inspire People to Care
People who see animals up close often become more protective of nature. A child who visits a zoo may grow up to support wildlife conservation. Even small changes—like reducing plastic use or planting trees—can be inspired by one visit.
Zoos spark empathy. They help people understand that animals are not just pictures in a book. They are living, feeling beings.
Conclusion
Zoos are not perfect, but they are evolving. From education to conservation, they serve a purpose that goes beyond entertainment. When built and managed responsibly, zoos help both animals and people. They remind us of the beauty of nature—and the duty we have to protect it.

Melfest
I think a lot of these songs grew on me (Voice of the Silent, On and On and On, Believe Me, Hush Hush, Bara Bada Bastu, Hate You So Much, even Yihaa), to the point I would be fine with, like, half of the roster winning. I'm glad KAJ won, though, since it makes for an intriguing development when it comes to future editions of Melodifestivalen.
Revolution (the song) bothers me, even beyond its similarities to Heroes. I think songs with political undertones can work at Eurovision, but this feels to me like the usual ESC/Melfest "self-empowerment ballad", just in a way that uses activism as a theme. There is no call to action, but also no lyrics that make references to any specific issue: there are hints that point to the intended meaning (climate change), but nothing too direct or impactful. The intent might have been genuine, but a white guy alone on stage smiling at the camera singing about how the next generations will have "beautiful people like [us]" with no further explanation rubs me the wrong way.
Honestly, I think the most effective way to broadcast a political message in a song would be to do so as a separate song during or just after the ESC season. Having watered down lyrics so the EBU doesn't complain just makes the sentiment seem less genuine.
(Existing political songs in ESC usually have strong imagery in their lyrics - which could work here - and/or have messages of survival, which don't get censored, but I don't think that would work when talking about climate change.)
Anyway, KAJ are super charismatic, their song stands out in style but I don't particularly love it. It's a likely qualifier, though.
Also, Nemo's opening performance was lovely 💖
San Marino
Wow, such a glow-up when compared to the semi-finals!
Tutta L'Italia was underwhelming. The music video idea works, but I wish there were more folks around Gabry Ponte doing random Italian things, and he should also do something more engaging himself (maybe even as a surprise in the end). Something that's more Rim Tim Tagi Dim than Mila.
The other 2 acts on the top 3 also deserved it! I hope they'll try again, when they don't have one of the top NF memes as direct competition.
Portugal
LOL, that Serbian system is awful. No wonder there was a tie. Also, having an international jury would be nice, imho. Even if it was restricted to folks who can speak Portuguese or whatever. The issue with the regional vote is how each region is more likely to be biased when it comes to their own representatives.
The winning song is fine? I'm not heartbroken about Josh in particular (although a Tristeza performance with a bigger budget would be something I'm interested in seeing), and I didn't think my favorites (Henka and Peculiar) would win either but... eh, I feel like there were better options.

My Relationship With Nature

My current relationship with nature has strengthened extremely as I’ve found a lot of serenity and peace in the outdoors. I say strengthened since I’ve spent much more time in nature this past summer than in previous summers. I was born and raised in Toronto (actually downtown and not like Pickering). As a kid, I spent a lot of time biking and exploring various parks such as Tommy Thompson Park, Evergreen Brickworks and the small area of forestry near Riverdale Park. When I turned 16 I visited my uncle in British Columbia and was shocked to see the difference between the skyline of Whistler and Toronto. My experience in British Columbia was filled with tons of hikes and visiting various parks. This past summer my friends and I visited a few conservation parks in Southern Ontario including Mount Nemo and Laurel Creek Conservation Area. Seeing conservation parks was extremely eye-opening as the nature fix I got as a kid was extremely limited. Spending time in these isolated parks made me feel more connected to myself as the drastic change in noise in the city compared to a hiking trail gave me a lot of personal reflection time and allowed me to find a form of escapism. The time I spent on these hikes gave me time to slow down and enjoy my surroundings instead of worrying about getting from point A to B quickly.
Although my relationship with nature has strengthened a lot compared to before, I’ve only experienced and seen such a small portion of nature in Ontario, leaving me with so much more to explore. I’m excited to grow and experience more of the outdoors, especially when it comes to seeing more not just in Ontario but worldwide. The picture above was taken on the path at Tommy Thompson Park. I thought this picture depicted a good portion of my childhood as a majority of it was spent in the city until recently when I began spending more time in the outdoors. When it comes to a sense of place in nature, I’d say my mom was the person who gave it to me. She would always tell me stories of her life before moving to Canada and the scenery in Sri Lanka. She’d always stress the importance of enjoying nature and not taking it for granted especially when considering the effects of climate change. I’d spend a lot of time at Evergreen Brickworks with my mom and we would walk through the trails often and that got my love for being in the outdoors started early. I’ve taken a few courses on climate change so I’m also aware that I need to explore more sooner rather than later as the effects of climate change worsen which is why I see my relationship with nature only getting stronger as I mature. I only see my life getting more hectic as I get older meaning I’m going to need to make sure I have downtime to relax.

Can you tell us more about Asian Pirate musical?
it would be my pleasure, thank you for the question!

[Image description: Five illustrations of characters from the waist up under a banner that reads Asian Pirate Musical. Top left is Zheng He, a Chinese man wearing a red yuanlingpao with a golden dragon design, and a black futou. He points with a scroll and has a sword at his hip. Top right is Sek Yeong, an older Chinese woman with a bob of grey hair. She wears a light blue Tang suit with a red and gold half-cape, and jade accessories. She holds a pistol and a dagger. Bottom left is Keliling, an agender Southeast Asian person wearing multicoloured clothing, including a plastic poncho and a large rimmed hat with SEA patterns. Middle is Nazar, a Black person with a curled afro. Nazar wears batik orange clothing with an apron whose pockets are lined with tools. Bottom right is Riang, a non-binary Southeast Asian person wearing multicoloured clothing including a high-necked vest with see-through sleeves. They hold a holographic spanner against their shoulder. Every portrait is set against a map from the era and location that they are from. end ID]
The year is 2049: A lone pirate sails the Straits of Melaka under a red sky, alone… until a storm throws seafarers from across time and space onto the same ship. The five form an unlikely crew: 14th century Muslim diplomat and navigator Zheng He, 19th century pirate queen Sek Yeong, 23rd century space revolutionaries Keliling and Riang, and 21st century climate survivor Nazar, desperate to get off a dying Earth. Together, they delve into what it means to be free, to resist and to grieve, and to stand in solidarity in the face of our future.
Asian Pirate Musical (APM) is the baby of me and six other rad creatives. We had a Work in Progress showing just before Covid (literally the week where everything started shutting down in London.... what a wild time to cram hundreds of people in an unventilated theatre built in the damp arches beneath a railway track...) and then we wrote the whole show in lockdown. We're now at the point where we're pitching it to companies and throwing applications for money at various walls but... yeah.... it's not the best time to be trying to get a show on in London, ngl.
If ya wanna hear some samples of some of the songs, you can find them on youtube:
so, yeah, queer asian found family pirates is kind of a theme for me! hopefully one day soon we'll find its home, and you all can join us for the trip! we have socials and a website and stuff so, if you wanna keep updated with it, you can follow us there ^^
Also, the header art was drawn by Charis Loke, who is very cool!
