One thing I will never forgive Marvel for is hiring Scott Derrickson -- the mastermind behind the movies Sinister and The Black Phone -- to make the MCU's first horror movie (Multiverse Of Madness) and then not letting him make the movie scary. Cause that's how we ended up with Raimi's version of MoM. Cause Scott walked cause Marvel was jerking him the fuck around. Like how do you hire someone to make a horror movie and then be like, "Oh but we actually don't want it to be scary"?!

Especially someone like Scott fucking Derrickson. Anyone whose seen Sinister will know what I mean. Just -- this is a scene from Sinister.

It's EXTREMLY important how we are the penguins of the galaxy.

So, I'll start with the fact that I sleept through my whole physics class and then woke up and my first words were "we're the penguins." to my friends and I extremely creeped them out.

Now to the actual important thing, which is why I think we wre the penguins of the galaxy.

So, as we know of of the lowest temperatures in the galaxy is the Boomerang Nebula, which is only 1⁰ Kelvin (like -272⁰C). That seems pretty cold, but my sleep infused brain inspired by sleeping in physic class asked the question why does the temperatures go so high up (Sun is 5,600⁰C, the highest being the Planck temperature which is like a shit ton of millions high)? Well, and then - still sleeping, mind you - I was like "we're the penguins". Because when I think of penguins I think of these little animals that live in low temperatures where not everything can live. So, what if we're the penguins of the galaxy, which means that other possible races live in waaaaaay higher temperatures, maybe even ones like our Sun, and we're the ones that live in weirdly cold conditions, that would be unlivable for species from other planets?

So yeah, that's my theory I'm off to hopefully not fall asleep in me next class lol

Fun fact about me: physical media preservation is one of my very niche special interests. If you’re not careful I can get on my soapbox for hours.

When you can, buy physical (everything from movies to video games), and when you can’t pirate.

They actually make physical media for a much larger percentage of movies than they ever did in the past. Often with a lot more care than any small release was treated in the early dvd days. Its just if you only watch streaming stuff or the big new recent box office hits you won't see that. It is so ridiculously easy to get physical media for movies that even 5 years ago you couldn't even find. Like yes Netflix is a stingy bastard but so many things are available on disc WITH special features than ever before

It goes even further though. If you're faking being asleep and going so far as to pretending to have a dream and thus mimicking all the outward signs of it... then you're putting up a:

Meet the seven new frog species we just named after iconic Star Trek captains!

At the right time of year along rushing streams in the humid rainforests that stretch the length of Madagascar's eastern and northern mountain ridges, otherworldly trills of piercing whistles can be heard.

Are they birds? Insects? Communicator beeps? Tricorder noises?

No, they're little treefrogs!

Until recently, we thought all of the populations of these little brown frogs across the island were one widespread species, Boophis marojezensis, described in 1994. But genetics in the early 2000s and 2010s showed that there were several species here, not just one.

Now my colleagues and I have shown that they are in fact eight separate species, each with unique calls!

These whistling sounds reminded us so much of Star Trek sound effects that we decided to name the seven new species after Star Trek captains: Boophis kirki, B. picardi, B. janewayae, B. siskoi, B. pikei, B. archeri, and B. burnhamae.

I subtly and not-so-subtly built some Star Trek references into the paper, but probably the best one is this one:

'Finding these frogs sometimes requires considerable trekking; pursuing strange new calls, to seek out new frogs in new forests; boldly going where no herpetologist has gone before.'

There’s a real sense of scientific discovery and exploration here, which we think is in the spirit of Star Trek.

Of course, it doesn't hurt that there are at least two Trekkies amongst the authors (including yours truly). As fans of Star Trek, we are also just pleased to dedicate these new species to the characters who have inspired and entertained us over the decades.

On a personal note, this marks a milestone for me, as it means I have now described over 100 frog species! I am very pleased that the 100th is Captain Janeway's Bright-eyed Frog, Boophis janewayae (if you count them in order of appearance in the paper)—she is probably my favourite captain, and I really love Star Trek: Voyager.

so I finally watched the first Star Wars movie and OMG was Luke just precious or what?(lol), the young and handsome Hero and that squeaky voice, the last time I saw a character who reminded me of that trope was James Spader as Daniel Jackson in Stargate
