please share your antonin artaud opinions he is my little french freak (affectionate) but im not all that involved in theater theory i just like reading his stuff. one time i wrote a play for class that my prof called brechtien and that's the extent of my engagement with brecht's work so

there's a quote about john cassavetes attributed to peter falk that says "somebody said 'man is god in ruins,' and john saw the ruins with a clarity that you and i could not tolerate." i think that artaud was able to see the ruins of the world with such a clarity that he was desperate to find a way to express. i love that his work is unapologetic and caught up in violence and danger and a determination to escape what he viewed as false reality. i love that he put it so clearly and so plainly when he stated "no one has ever written or painted, sculpted, modeled, built, invented, except to get out of hell." i love (and find funny) that he hated politics because his work with all its surreality and transgression is so politically active and alive to me. how could one read "van gogh: the man suicided by society" and not trace the seeds of antipsychiatric thought in the work, especially knowing that he himself was continually institutionalized and begged to end the electroshock treatments he went through? i love that his work and theatre of cruelty is sometimes considered "impossible theatre" because i think it inspires a challenge to consider what that untouchable metaphysical "impossible" thing can reveal in performance, even if we cannot ever fully articulate it, the attempt to reach it (like the lacanian real) is worthwhile. i think that artaud was failed by capitalism and institutions and being deemed "mad" and i think that his work is understudied even among theatre and performance studies circles. i think that the mother courage silent scream and the jet of blood are doing the same thing

Nader is a 17 year old boy who lives in Gaza with his family: parents Ahmed (54) and mother Iman (49), brothers Abdulsalam (26), Mohammed (14), and Omar (21) and Abdulsalam’s wife and their one year old daughter Iman. Imagine it was your sibling, your friend, your son, who should be in school or with his friends, who instead has to hide from bombs and ask for help online to save his family. Abdulsalams daughter Iman is only one year old and has lived most her life in a war zone. She is suffering from malnutrition. My name is Jaber Al-Haj. I am from Gaza, married to my wife, Menna, and we have a little son named Hashim, who is less than two years old. Like any Palestinian family, we dreamed of a simple and stable life. But the recent war turned our lives upside down. The sounds of explosions never left us, and fear has become part of our daily existence. My son Hashim suffers from health problems that urgently require treatment, but the war has destroyed everything, including the healthcare system, making access to necessary medical care nearly impossible. With each passing day, our suffering deepens, and the fear for Hashim’s health and future consumes me.

Alongside my small family, I used to work with my brothers, Aboud and Bilal, on our joint project—a small lab for producing essential household cleaning products. We started this project with modest resources, dreaming that it would become a source of income to support us and provide job opportunities for our community. But the war left us with nothing. Our lab, which was once filled with life and hard work, was reduced to rubble under the bombardment. We lost our equipment, our livelihood, and with it, a part of our dreams for the future.

Even our home, our only refuge, did not escape the destruction. It was severely damaged and is now uninhabitable. We were forced to flee and live in a tent under harsh conditions unfit for human life. The cold, the heat, the lack of resources, and the absence of privacy have made life nearly unbearable. We try to cope, but every day brings new challenges and suffering.

Today, what worries me the most is my son Hashim's condition. His health is deteriorating, and he desperately needs treatment abroad. However, under the circumstances we’re living in, I lack the means to secure his travel and medical expenses. As a father, there is nothing more heartbreaking than watching my child suffer while being unable to help him.

Hello, I'm hamdi 🇵🇸 After 100 days of displacement, my family and I found ourself forced to leave our home and land in Gaza. 🏡💔 The journey to Egypt was not a choice, but a necessity imposed by the harsh conditions. we crossed the border, carrying with us scattered dreams and hopes for a better life, but we quickly realized that displacement was not the end of the suffering, but the beginning of a new chapter.

In Egypt, we are stuck between a bitter alienation and a painful reality. 😔🚧 We do not have residency, which makes every step difficult and every day full of challenges. Prices in Egypt resources are unforgiving, and the ones we brought with us are quickly melting away. 💸 While we try to endure and survive, our hearts remain attached to Gaza; The homeland that never leaves our minds or leaves us for a moment. 🇵🇸💔 Our loved ones there live under siege, and we live under the burden of alienation and worry for them. My family and I are struggling to live and avoid death on many levels, not just through bombing or the use of lethal weapons. With the onset of winter, living in the open or in tents has become a difficult challenge for us after the bombing destroyed our homes. In the absence of medical and treatment facilities, our suffering in the camps doubles to the point of despair of the possibility of life. These are scenes we see daily on television screens, but their aggravation has turned them into ordinary scenes that do not stir feelings. Therefore, the bombing continues without stopping, and the occupation forces do not find themselves required to stop their practices. Scenes that no longer stir human feelings, especially among politicians who consider them “necessary damages of war.” We hope that the human conscience will awaken from its slumber and rise up for the sake of the hungry in Gaza, and for the lives that are lost daily in the homes and tents that Israeli aircraft destroy without conscience. People only seem to pay attention to a campaign when something really terrible happens to someone involved, as if living through over a year of genocide isn't enough to open their eyes. When I ask people to donate and support Gaza, it's because they desperately need help. They have no jobs or income, no homes to protect them from the cold or rain. They live in unimaginable, harsh conditions and still try to survive through it all.

Help a Gazan English Teacher Attend Sheffield University/UK and Regain his Stolen Life. 🙏

Hello dear compassionate souls,

This is Mohammad, an English teacher form Gaza.

On Thursday, October 5th 2023, two day prior to the crushing war, I got up from my comfortable bed at 6 a.m., brushed my teeth, took a shower, dressed my ironed suit, had my coffee in peace and headed to Al-Azhar University where I worked.

It was not until two days later that this beautiful & simple life would become a far-fetched dream.  On October 9th, I found myself displaced tens of kilometers away form home, lost my job and even my neat clothes and my entire life revolved around securing the most basic necessities for survival. My dream became a pile of wood and a bag of flour. At some point, I genuinely forgot who I really once was.

The war went on and on and it’s just three days away from its first anniversary by the time I am writing my story. Throughout this year, I witnessed all sorts of suffering and humiliation from the loss of my home and university to the grief of losing many beloved ones. I have experienced countless displacements, chaotic food lines filled with the hungry, deprivation of essential supplies, and the horror of witnessing some of history’s most harrowing scenes.

This genocide took a full year away from my life so far and replaced it with death and humiliation. As far as academics are concerned, the war destroyed all our universities and schools taking away all my dreams of restoring my progress. Despite all that, I was determined to regain my stolen life and start over again. I applied for the university of Sheffield and obtained an unconditional offer letter to continue my studies in the field of TESOL, Teaching English to Student of Other Languages.

I am reaching out to you to join in my fight to regain my progress and get back on my feet. My TESOL program at Sheffield is a one-year MEd that costs 24.950₤. any donation no matter how small gets me a step closer to a better life.

My beautiful baby Mira was suffering from a high temperature two weeks ago, so I took her to the doctor at Al Awda Hospital in Nuseirat Camp, which is the only hospital covering the central region. The doctor told me: There is nothing wrong with your child without examination or tests.

He literally told me your child is spoiled

When I got out of the hospital, I told my wife that our baby girl was spoiled, just like the doctor said

Every time my child, Mira, complains of pain, I tell her there is nothing you need, and when her temperature rises, I give her a fever reducer and she just sleeps.

This morning, my wife was surprised while she was changing clothes for Mira that there was a large tumor under her armpit

My wife started screaming and crying at me. I took Mira to the hospital immediately and we were referred to a pediatric surgeon. She was examined and a television imaging was done. It was found that my child suffers from three masses in the lymph nodes, one of which is very large.

The doctor told me that she needed a gland removal operation As soon as possible within a week due to the rapid growth of the tumor

My child, Mira, is one of the most active and energetic children today. She is sick and cannot play. She's tired. I don't like to see her in this state.

Since we received the news, my wife and I have been crying. We do not know how to react. What will happen to us next in this damned war?

There are no hospitals, no electricity, no treatment, and not even anesthesia for surgical operations

I don't know how to act

My child, Mira, needs an operation and quick treatment
