How I would direct film/tv versions of Intrepid Heroes seasons (SPOILERS ABOUND)

I already posted this elsewhere but figured it should go here as well! Not making this as a professional, but as someone who’s going to school for theater and plans to work in entertainment production/direction one day :)

(Also assuming unlimited budget)

Fantasy High: Live action tv show. Written exactly like a John Hughes movie, shot and costumed in the style of Sharkboy and Lavagirl. Increases in quality as the seasons go on, but only in the sense that it becomes increasingly aware of its own ridiculousness. Kristen and K2 are played by the same actor and shot in the same way as Dove Cameron in Liv and Maddie. All the Intrepid Heroes have roles as the story’s various adults: Brennan is Jawbone, Lou is Arthur Aguefort, Ally is Gilear, etc. 

The Unsleeping City: A long series of films. Partially animated like Enchanted or Space Jam. The Dream Realm is animated while the waking world (including waking magic, like Willie or La Gran Gata) is live action with practical effects. Pete (played/voiced by Elliot Page) is only live action for the very first scene before he’s chosen to be Vox Phantasma, after which he becomes animated. Kingston is entirely live action until the season 2 finale. Misty and Rowan are both animated and have different voice actors. Kug is animated until the finale when we see his human form (who is also his voice actor, Danny Devito). Robert Moses is live action but his business cards are animated. Alejandro, Ana, Amelia, David and Wally are live action in season 1 but animated in season 2. Dale is animated until the season 2 finale. TUC is my favorite and I have so many thoughts so I think this deserves its own post, maybe later

A Crown of Candy: Live action miniseries, shot in the exact style of Game of Thrones. The fact that the characters are food is never treated as strange. The world may be brightly colored, but the lighting is super gritty and desaturated, especially after Jet’s death. All non-humanoid characters are done through an extensive costume/prosthetic budget. It’s a far darker tone than the original season, and someone’s definitely dying that doesn’t die in canon. 

A Starstruck Odyssey: I mean, Starstruck started out as a play and I think it deserves to stay in theatre. A three-act musical performed in a similar venue to Natasha, Pierre and the Great Comet of 1812. Instead of being on one huge separate stage, the actors can mingle with the audience, stand on their tables and take their food. The music is all super similar to (or perhaps written by) Starkid. The brain slugs exclusively express themselves through song, which the Guernican Art Squad tries and fails to emulate. Perhaps even sillier than the original season.

Neverafter: Not live action, not animated, but a secret third thing: a beautifully crafted film trilogy entirely made with puppets. Huge budget, soaring score, similar in production to The Dark Crystal. The strings controlling the puppets are visible at all times, but the human hands of the puppeteers (except for those of the Stepmother) aren’t revealed until the finale. I would personally give it a pretty dark tone (again, similar to The Dark Crystal), but I wouldn’t be mad if a different director cast Aesop and Baba Yaga as Kermit and Miss Piggy

Cloudward Ho: I might change my mind about this as the series goes on, but an animated TV show is the obvious way to go for me. In my head it’s somewhere between the Legend of Korra and the Castlevania series, art style-wise. I could also deal with it being similar to Arcane, mostly 3-d but with some 2-d elements. I don’t know nearly enough about animation as I should, but I’m sure someone who knows more would be able to make a real masterpiece out of this.

one of the things i really like about how brennan dms is that he is categorically incapable of punishing kindness. every time one of his players does some crazy ass shit out of the goodness of their hearts, he adjusts the universe to accommodate that kindness. this obviously creates very touching scenes (see: emily and the junkmother, the bad kids getting jawbone a job as a guidance counselor, every interaction they have with baba yaga including pib stealing from her, etc.) but also it means that he lets ally invent a silkworm civilization that's evolved to the bronze age and produces chain link patterned silk shirts just to cheer emily up. bronze age silkworms. for emily.

If there's one thing about Emily Axford, is that her characters are GOING to be friends with Murph's characters (if he's there). They are ALL going to be relatable and complex depictions of woman/girlhood and they are GOING to be friends with Murph (Threat). It's the Gunner channel, it's Fig taking extra study for Riz, it's Lady Saccharina only really having an ally in Sir Theobald, it's Ylfa and Gerard not being quite Human, it's Sophia and kugrash hustling with hairy baby, it's even Sofia chastising Cody for being a shithead. She has great chemistry with everyone tbh but I'm always touched by how she seeks Murph out and builds their characters together. I love them your honour.
