A Message from Vi (Next in Line IF)

Hi everyone,

I know that I've been away a while and haven't updated the game. Long story short? A while ago, I was laid off from my job, lost my health insurance (and access to therapy and other services), and have been focused heavily on finding a new job while also battling severe mental health struggles. After starting therapy, getting diagnosed with Generalized Anxiety Disorder, and starting medication, I was finally finding a good balance. But losing my job reverted a lot for me and I lost my income and health access.

So, I am really, truly sorry for not being around for a while. I am still trying to find a job though I have a final interview tomorrow and I'm really hoping I get an offer.

But I have been on hiatus because of these personal issues. This time has also given me some time to think about Next in Line and how to move forward with it. Because I think about the game and this community all the time. I miss it. I miss working on it. I miss engaging with all of you.

So, you can expect a new message here in the coming week. I think it's important to be transparent and honest with you. The game will be continuing but every time I work on it, I feel incredibly overwhelmed by the scope. As many of you know, Next in Line, was my first interactive fiction. And because of the excitement, I put a ton of pressure on myself to offer all kinds of things like pets, a ton of scenes with all these combinations, places to visit, etc. Essentially, I created a massive, overwhelming amount of scene combinations and character configurations. Because of this, I have struggled to create updates these last couple years, because it physically overwhelms me to the point where I mentally short wire and just can't do it. My anxiety when it comes to the game sends me spiraling because I'm terrified of never living up to the expectations I set.

So, next week, I will be providing you with a scaled back plan for the game. I'll include details on what's staying and what's not. I know it's going to suck for me to say 'hey, this won't be a part of the game anymore' but I have to do this if I want to actually deliver the content. Once that game is actually finished, there's always possibility things could get added back.

Anyway, talk soon. Feel free to submit your thoughts and questions related to this. I'll review and answer the best I can.

Context: Vegeta's biological older sister that was sent to Earth with Goku and adopted by Grandpa Gohan. She assimilated into Earth culture because he was steonger than her (and kind to her).

Tatiana Maslany talks about her new crowdfunding film Next In Line with writer, director and co-star Danny Dolan.

Next In Line is a queer dance horror film set in the cutthroat world of Los Angeles choreographers.

After losing out on the job of a lifetime, one choreographer's attempts at self-care are hijacked by an unhinged and malicious rival.

Tatiana will play Willow, a washed-up, faux-spiritual choreographer, whose choreography is a visceral expression of her inner mayhem, who becomes unhinged when she learns that her rival Travis (played by Danny Dolan) received good news from his agent.

If the film reaches its $50.000 goal by December 6, it will be filmed for 3 days in February and released by the end of spring 2025.

Hi

I'm obviously late here but happy new year. Sorry for the crickets since I posted Part 1 of Chapter 2. Without getting too personal, I know people don't want that, here's why I've been away:

My mother-in-law is sick and they are pretty certain it's later-stage cancer. We are waiting for the final results but we've been traveling back to England to spend time with my husband's family.

Our lease is ending this month and our landlord isn't renewing so we are moving.

I've recently started taking anti-depressants because I'm struggling with my mental health. I haven't been in a good place for several months. Several things have happened that have really messed me up mentally and I've been in survival mode.

I'm sorry for the lack of updates. Once we get settled from our move (Feb or March time), I will be making some fixes to the current demo as some different issues have been reported over the last couple of months. After that, I will begin work again on completing Chapter 2 and try to be more consistent with at least a monthly update on here.

I'm sorry that I've been flaky over the last year. 2023 was incredibly difficult for me personally and for my family, as I'm sure it was for many others. I am feeling positive about 2024 and I can only say this: I love this game and I am not giving up on it.

Feral Vega AU

Did I need to make an AU so quickly? No. But c'mon, evil Vega.

Vega never met Grandpa Gohan and decided to bid her time for Goku to grow up some.

Up until the first World Tournament, she survived on the land and by killing people. Using that time to assess whether humans were worthy subjects or not.

When she discovered that humans also follow whoever is strongest, she decided to rule them through more passive means and slowly built herself up as trustworthy Protector of Earth so that the Z Fighters can't just get rid of her.

During the first Tournament, she approaches Goku in private and tells him everything about their heritage and purpose on Earth, giving him a choice to join her. He declines and tries to ignore what she said.

She thoroughly trounces him and tells him he can learn to keep his tail from being a weakness... and that she can help him with it. He still refuses.

The second World Tournament, Tien thinks she'll make for a good opponent and Goku tries to warn him, but Tien gets his ass handed to him swiftly and Vega wins the Tournament over Goku using a similar tactic; except this time Goku is fully conscious when he hits the ground.

The third World Tournament, she trounces Piccolo because she's the only one allowed to rule the Earth. And again she beats Goku, offering him a place beside her in her domination of the planet. Goku refuses again and keeps looking over his shoulder for Vega.

When Raditz shows up, he seeks out the most powerful, surprised that its Vega. He defers to her power, answering her questions and going along with whatever she says since she is stronger than him (and Vegeta)

Vega uses the Z Fighters to her advantage during the Namek and Frieza sagas, proving she isn't *much* of a threat to them by eradicating Frieza and King Cold when they land on Earth.

By this time she has most of Earth's governments under her thumb and rules with a kinder fist than she was taught by King Vegeta. The people of Earth genuinely love and trust her since she's propped herself up better than Mr. Satan did.

Raditz is her loyal lap dog in every sense of the word. Their romance is deeply unbalanced as Vega treats him like more of a concubine and enforcer than a lover. Raditz doesn't care since this is about as good a life as he could ever hope for under a Saiyan's rule.

Vega does develop a sick sort of love for Raditz over time, keeping him close/out of danger after a certain point. But that's as far as she's willing to admit her feelings.

[Insert Broly the Legendary Super Sayian Movie here]

Vega is able to "tame" Broly by simply not backing down. His Saiyan insticts kick in and he recognizes her as his Queen. Broly also becomes something of a lap dog and concubine for Vega.

Vega's rule includes Paragus, Broly, and Raditz as her loyal servants while the rest of the Z Fighters just tolerate her as a powerful figure that isn't trying to kill them. She is "friendly" with them and that's about it.

Though she never misses a Tournament to keep up her wealth and success. Vegeta has attempted to dethrone her multiple times, but it has never worked. Though she did out him as her little brother. ["Know your place, little brother" as she tossed him out of the ring all beaten up]
