It’s Always Been You
Tumblr media
Pairing: Jimin + Reader Genre: Fluff Word Count: 2k Prompt: Person A likes Person B but doesn’t have the guts to tell them, so instead Person A asks Person B how to get a girl to like them and Person B tells him everything he needs to know. A/N: This is my entry to @nightbts’ writing contest! I thought this would be fun plus, I admire her writing so much! I also want to improve my writing so I thought this would be the perfect opportunity!
___
Monday mornings meant time for school, sadly. You dragged  yourself out of bed and tiredly walked to the bathroom to wash up. Once you were done, you got dressed in casual attire — some jean shorts and a striped button up, along with your side bag of course. You headed outside and started walking towards your local bus stop.
“Hello, (Y/N)!” You heared from someone oddly familiar. Turning your head, you saw one of Jimin’s friend, Taehyung. You’ve always liked him — he was very fun to be around. “Hey, Tae! You take the bus too? I thought you drive to school.” “Yeah, but my parents are making me take the bus instead of my own car because I came home drunk the other night
” he said with a sad smile.
“Oh, Tae,” you said, chuckling. “Whatever. So where’s Jimin?” He took out a bag a poky sticks and started chewing on them. “He had to go school early to take the physics test he missed out on the other day. He offered me a ride but I was to lazy to get up, plus, I’d be bored just waiting for him alone,” you said, sticking out your hand to Taehyung, obviously showing that you’d like a pocky stick. “You know
Jimin told me something that he hasn’t told you
” Taehyung smirked.
“What? That’s ridiculous, Jimin and I are best friends, he’d tell me anything.” You and Jimin became best friends at the beginning of freshman year of college. You had gotten lost and he had been an excellent guider — showing you where all your classes were, introducing you to all his friends, which is how how you met Taehyung, and even offered to sit with you at lunch. You’d be lying if you said you didn’t have feelings for him. However you’d never tell him because you doubt he feels the same way and you wouldn’t want to jeopardize the beautiful friendship you both created. “Ah I don’t think so
he told me something that I can’t tell you,” Taehyung teases. “What? Idiot, you’re the one that brought it up so now I want to know!” You said quite loudly. “Nope! I’ll never surrender!” You suddenly thought  of something that’ll make the boy speak. You jumped up, grabbed the pocky stick box and shoved it in your bag. “Ha! Now tell me!” “(Y/N)! Give that back! Those are my favourite! He whined. “Not until you tell me what Jimin has told you and not me, his best friend!” “You’re a pain in the ass, (Y/N). I’ll tell you but you have to promise not tell Jimin that I told you or else he’ll beat me up,” he takes a deep breath before continuing. “He likes this girl from our school and he’s planning on telling her but doesn’t know how,” he said, and you swear your heart stopped for a second. “W-who is it?” You asked. “I can’t tell! You’ll have to ask him that yourself! Can I please have my pocky sticks back?”  Sighing, you took the box back out of your bag, but not before stealing a stick for yourself. Taehyung grabbed the box back and within seconds, you saw the bus coming and you both got on. The only thing on your mind was figuring out who the mystery girl was that Jimin liked.
-
Upon reaching school, Taehyung and you both turned your separate ways. You planned on finding Jimin to ask him who the mystery girl was. You just couldn’t believe he wouldn’t tell you. Reaching your locker, you opened it and got out your psychology textbook. “Hey, (Y/N).” Closing your locker and looking to your  right, you saw a giddily Jimin which was weird because he’s usually quite grumpy in the morning. “Hey, Jiminie!” You both walked side by side but not before the question in your head keeps begging you to ask him. “Jimin?” “Mmm?” “Uh, Taehyung told me you like someone from our school
” Jimin’s face was something you never saw before. He looked angry. “Did he say who?” “No
but why didn’t you tell me?!” You slapped his shoulder. “Ow! This isn’t the time, okay? We have class right now,” He started to walk faster as you tried to catch up. “Jimin, class doesn’t start until nine thirty!” You exclaimed. “Can’t you just give me a hint?! Is it Yejin?” Little did you know that the mystery girl was you. Jimin’s started falling for you a couple months after you two became friends. On one night while you two were cuddled up on the couch watching a movie, you started laughing and smiling at a funny scene that popped up and Jimin knew from that very moment, that he wanted to see that smile for him and only him. “No, it’s not. It’s someone more special and I don’t know what to do. I need to know how to tell her in a romantic way because she a sucker for romantic things
can you help me?” He asked. It honestly kind of hurt you. A part of you didn’t want to help him because you were jealous but as his best friend, it was your duty to help him. “When are you planning on telling her?” “Tonight
” Damn
already? “Oh.” “Yeah, I just hope she likes me back,” he smiled while looking down. “I just don’t know how to tell her.” “Okay fine, I’ll teach you everything you need to know. Just meet me near my locker at the end of the day.” “Thanks, (Y/N), you’re the best” with that, he ruffled your hair and you both head to class.
-
“Why are we at a flower shop?” Jimin asked. “I’m going to teach you everything you need to know. Since she likes romantic things, roses are perfect!” you said as you asked the old lady if she had any fresh red ones. “Oh yes! They’re in the back, I’ll go get them, wait here,” she walks off to the back of her flower shop. You turned back to see Jimin pacing around the shop. “Relax, she’ll love these!” You tell him. “Do you like roses?
” “I do! They’re beautiful! If I guy were to give me a bouquet of roses, I’d never stop smiling.” “Here they are!” The old lady returned, holding the most beautiful roses you’ve ever saw in your entire life. “Ahh, they’re beautiful! Thank you very much!” You said, cheerfully.
-
Walking down the street, you peeked to your right and saw Jimin smelling the flowers and he honestly looked so beautiful. You kind of wished that he was doing that for you.
Little did you know that he was. “Now where are we going?” Jimin’s voice snapped you out of your thoughts. “We’re going to the chocolate store! I think you should go to her house at night, with the bouquet of flowers and chocolate and tell her that you like her and be all romantic
but not too cheesy because you aren’t proposing to her.” You said. You’ve never been a serious relationship but surprisingly, you knew a lot about love and that’s why many came to you for relationship advice. “So, I should do all that?” Jimin asked. You slowly nodded. “Oh! And also, dress casual because it’d be a little extra if you were to wear a suit and  tie,” You both reached the chocolate shop and walked in.
Jimin followed behind you like a puppy, causing you to giggle at the boy. You began looking for a nice chocolate box. “You like milk chocolate, right (Y/N)?”
“Yeah, why do you ask?”
“Um, let’s just get that then. I mean, if you like it, I’m pretty sure she’ll like it too! Plus, it’d be easier and quicker since it’s late and I still have to get ready to you know
” You smiled at Jimin. You thought it was adorable that he was doing all that for a girl who obviously meant a lot to him. The fact that he wanted to use your special chocolate made you smile. “Okay, sure!” You two pay the old man and start to head home. Before you both go your separate ways, Jimin speaks up. “(Y/N)?” “Mmm?” “Thank you for today. Without you, I’d be a complete mess. I just hope that when I go to her her apartment tonight, she’ll feel the same way
” “Aw! Don’t worry, Jimin. She’s honestly one lucky girl. I’m glad you’re doing this for her. Trust me, if you do everything I told you, you’ll be good. Make sure to let me know what she says,” you say, sadly. It hurt you knowing that Jimin was confessing to some random girl you probably never heard of. “I will! Take care, (Y/N)!” Jimin waved and turned the other way.
-
By the time you came back, it was nearly nine o’clock and you still had to shower and get ready for school the next day. Thank god your class was at twelve tomorrow. Hanging up your bag and coat, you walked to the bathroom and stripped all your clothes off from head to toe and headed in the shower. You thought about today how successful it was. Jimin had always helped you in the past — with tests, boyfriend problems, and even with helping you cook sometimes. The fact you you were able to help him today put smile on your face. You didn’t know if you were happy or sad that Jimin liked someone else. You thought he had feelings for you because he called you beautiful all the time, you guys held hands, and even cuddled on some days when you were upset.
Maybe faith had other plans.
-
About 15 minuets later, you got out of the shower and padded to your room to put on more comfier clothes. You pulled out a pair of pj shorts and a tank top and slipped those on. Once that was done, you start drying your wet hair with your towel. After that, you made your way to the kitchen and started making yourself some noodles.
You were so distracted with cooking and dancing to the music that was playing form your phone, you didn’t hear the loud knocking that was coming from your door. You wondered who it could be — you weren’t expecting anyone and it couldn’t be Jimin because he was out with the girl. Lowering the volume on your phone, you walked to the door and open it. You were in complete shock and your eyes almost popped out of your eyes when you saw Jimin standing outside your door. He was dressed in casual attire but looks so handsome in your eyes. He was also holding the red roses and chocolate you guys bought today. What is going on? “J-Jimin? What are you doing here? Aren’t you supposed to be at-“ “(Y/N). You’re the one I like,” he said with a wide grin while you were just standing there with your mouth wide open. “W-what? I-I’m so confused, you like me?” “Ever since I met you and the more we hung out, I just knew that I wanted to be more than friends,” he said. You on the other hand were still in shock. “So, I was the girl all along? There’s no one else? “No, it’s always been you.” “Why didn’t you tell me a long time ago?” You asked. “Because I didn’t know if you felt the same way. I didn’t have the guts so I asked you to help me on how to confess to a girl and so, here I am, just like the way you told me,” he said, as a blush crept upon his cheek. “So will you be my boyfriend?” “You idiot, I’ve liked you this whole time. I think it’s cute that you went through all this just to tell me you like me. I should’ve known when you asked me if I like roses and the thing about the chocolate,” You smirked. “You’re pretty clueless, (Y/N).” “Hey!” You hit him on the shoulder ask you made a small pout. “So is that a yes?” He teased as he leaned in closer to you. “Yes of course, you can be my boyfriend,” you said happily, with a wide smile on your face. Jimin handed you the roses and chocolate and within seconds, he crashed his lips onto yours. His lips were just like you imagined — plump and soft. Your lips both fitted perfectly together. He then pulled away, causing you to whine. “I’ve always wanted to do that,” he said. “Me too.” You both stared into each other’s eyes and you couldn’t believe that you had Jimin to be yours and only yours. He quickly pecked your lips, cheek, and finally your lip, and you get help but blush and smile like a fool. You suddenly forgot that your noodles were still cooking and that were probably burning. “Shit! The noodles!” You said as you ran back to the kitchen. Jimin chuckled to himself. He closed the door behind him and walked towards you. He stared at you while you were running around the kitchen and laughed out loud. He was finally happy knowing that the clumsy girl infront of him was all his, for forever and always.
This was cheesey and horrible because my writing sucks but I hope you all enjoyed!

[a/n]: this is my entry to @nightbts writing contest !! im not that competitive but i thought this was something fun to do and i love her writing so why not amirite
Tumblr media
“Can you help me with something?” Jimin peered up at your shaking, cautious figure. He’d do anything for you, you just had to ask. He invited you in, concerned as to how fragile you seemed. The inevitable tears slipped from the crevices of your eyes and hit the concrete floor below.
You declined, hoping to make your visit as short as possible. Jimin cleared his throat and shifted uneasily on his leg. “Okay.”
Bewildered at his sudden promise, you shot up to stare at him frantic. “I-I didn’t even say what it was.”
“You don’t need to, (Y/N). I’ll do it. Whatever you need, I’ll be there for you.” Jimin sighed heavily, however, you still couldn’t believe you were asking this of him.
“You might want to hear what it is first before agreeing, Jimin. I don’t want you to regret your decision.” You gulped, swallowing the knot in your throat. He shook his head, but your eyes remained glued to the floor behind him, quite ashamed of yourself for burdening him with your favor.
“Okay. But trust me, my choice will remain the same. I will do it, regardless.” He nonchalantly leaned against his door frame, carelessly listening. That was his first mistake.
“I need you to pretend to be my boyfriend, only for a bit.” Jimin popped up and blinked at you with wide, doe-like eyes. His heart drummed a thundering beat and tiny, vicious flutters accompanied his stomach. His body gave away his hesitation, his palms getting slick with the thought. “See.. this is why I wanted you to hear it first.”
Relaxing, his tense shoulders dropped. He scanned the floor to try to make sense of everything. “What happened?”
“We broke up, today. He left me for someone else.” You shrugged, the sadness drooping down your face. Everything felt torn, every word, every memory of the moment before, all cut through you. Your ex-boyfriend destroyed your frail heart, and made the young insecure girl reappear.
A small voice wanted to remind you that you were enough, but his was louder. You weren’t worth it anymore.
“For who? Who could be better than you?” Jimin bit his lip to stop him from going on. His light pink cheeks tinted his dewy complexion. His body betrayed him whenever it came to you. He was all red faced and sweaty palms, all fuzzy hearts and nervous blood streams, all tongue-tied and submissive. His pathetic feelings left him troubled.
He spent years trying to become uninterested, but you did everything that caused his mind to wander to the inexplicable. Your faint voice called his name so lovingly, and your soft stare broke down every wall he built. Your touch caused him to unravel and made him vulnerable. Even the smallest acknowledgment excited him.
Every since sophomore year of high school, he’d felt this way every breathing moment. He thought it was harmless, because they were going to disappear after graduation. However, you followed him to the same college. He tried to laugh off the jokes about it being fate, but that was when he started to feel scared. He let his miniature crush manifest into something on a grand-scale.
Jimin loved you, and that was what kept him up at night. Those mysterious deliberations terrified him because they weren’t leaving. You haunted him in every class and there wasn’t a slight chance you’d feel the same way.
You were in an infamous relationship with your boyfriend every since the beginning of senior year. He was some hotshot guy with an obnoxious sense of humor. Jimin never understood why you would choose him, but ultimately he had to be happy for you. He was who made you laugh and your beautiful smile shine. Jimin would die to see that enchanting smile of your’s.
There were times when Jimin believed he would be a better boyfriend, but those wouldn’t last long. They were consumed with another thought that even he wasn’t good enough for you — no one was. Jimin deemed himself unworthy to be yours.
He was merely a coward who admired you from afar. He didn’t stand out because there was no use, he didn’t want you to want him. It was better off that way, which is why your favor only made him second guess his answer.
“A hot sorority chick with a rack the size of my head and an ass that can fit two seats. Oh, but he claims she has a beaming personality and a kind heart behind her two jugs.” You sarcastically commented on your ex-boyfriend’s excuses.
Jimin chuckled at the explicit description and your petty remarks. You and Jimin weren’t the best of friends, but you were close. He always saved you a spot during lectures and respected your personal space. Your ex-boyfriend secretly disliked Jimin, mainly because he knew that Jimin was far much attractive than he ever was.
Jimin was your perfect candidate. He wasn’t in any committed relationship, and merely slept around with girls. He was your friend and he wasn’t overly attached. Jimin did a strange thing where he’d often distant himself from you, giving you space or maybe giving himself space.
He was always a secretive person, ever since high school. You two didn’t exactly speak much, until you both attended college together. Even then, he didn’t open up much about his life, especially his love life.
You practically rambled on about your ex-boyfriend any chance you got and hung out with him every day. Jimin knew all his little quirks because of your endless talks. Nonetheless, he still didn’t touch much about who he was seeing.
What you knew about his love life were accumulated rumors from other people. Everyone spoke about Jimin, like he was some royal prince. Jimin had soft features, but a powerful expression. He reeked of an alluring aura and drew in girls from every department. It was no surprise that everyone wanted a piece of him, but Jimin didn’t exactly care.
Every time you’d ask, he’d brush off the subject and say he was too drunk to remember the girl’s name. He’d become defensive and move on, so you never pushed it.
“Well, my answer remains. I’ll do it, (Y/N). Not for you, of course, but because that scum doesn’t deserve those jugs.” Jimin winked and a tiny part of you felt better that someone was by your side.
“I can’t do it. I’m going to walk in and he’s going to be sitting there with her, holding her hands and giggling together.” You paced back and forth outside the classroom. It was minutes before the start and you and Jimin were still not in your seats.
“Hey, I’m here, remember? You don’t have to face this alone.” Jimin cooed sweetly to displace the nervousness in your system. You weren’t sure how your plan was going to be executed, and it still felt surreal that Jimin agreed to your bizarre idea. “Let me handle it.”
He lent out his hand for you to take it, and you hesitated before proceeding to do so. “Deep breath.” Jimin mumbled before he pushed the door open and several people stared confusingly at your intertwined fingers.
Jimin probably felt more nervous about holding your hand than you did. The annoying butterflies swirled and caused his heart to stir. He fought off any warmth that dare tried to rise on his cheeks.
“(Y/N)! How are you?” Your ex-boyfriend stood up in his seat to wave arrogantly at you, his new girl turning to watch your every step.
“She’s a lot better now that she’s not with you.” Jimin ushered you to an empty spot in the row and you settled your things.
“Jimin, why don’t you let her speak for herself?” He mocked and crossed his arms.
“I’m sorry. I don’t like assholes talking to my girlfriend. She only gives time to people who deserve it.” Jimin spat and you gazed upon him with such admiration. Seeing him heated and protecting you sparked a burning feeling in your chest.
There were several gasps from girls in different seats and the expression on your ex-boyfriend’s face was priceless. “You two are dating?”
Jimin shrugged and joined the seat next to you. Your hand sneaked from under his side and locked fingers once again. He darted to your touch and he gripped his jeans underneath the table. Every second was torture for him.
This was slowly killing him because he knew it was all an act. It wasn’t real, your feelings were only revenge. Jimin’s were more than that, so much more, and that made it a lot harder for him to handle your thoughtless actions. He didn’t know how long he’d last before he’d burst open, and it was only the beginning.
He should be ecstatic to finally be your boyfriend, but the looming fact of everything being fake prevented any joy that would result from it. Jimin was glad he only had to pretend for a week.
Throughout the lecture, your ex-boyfriend repeatedly looked over at you and Jimin. His glare penetrated through your skin and it crawled down your spine. It was the reaction you hoped for, but the feeling wasn't what you expected. Guilt and anger surged to your heart. The painful emotions didn't allow for you to feel satisfaction.
"He keeps looking here." You whispered over to Jimin, who was concentrated on the professor in front of him.
"Isn't that a good thing? We want to make him jealous, right?" He whispered back, not peering up from his notes. He didn't see your defeated expression as you slumped down into your seat.
"Yeah, but why do I still feel horrible? How can he like another without feeling any remorse?"
Jimin paused from scribbling words on his paper. He dropped his pen onto his notebook and shifted in his seat to face you. "Because he doesn't actually like her. He likes what she has."
"Yeah, he left me for breast and ass. That makes me feel better." You rolled your eyes.
Shaking, Jimin slowly wrapped his arm around your shoulders. Peering up, you saw his sweet smile. His hand giving you a light squeeze, "you're more than all of that."
As your friend, he did his best to make you feel better. It worked, for a small moment, before your self esteem dropped again. You were appreciative of him for making an effort in being a great friend. There was no one else you could lean on. You smiled, halfheartedly.
Class was soon over as everyone began to pack and shuffle their things. "Let's go, babe!" Linking arms with Jimin, you pushed him towards the door. His heart leaped at the sound of the pet name.
You saw a glimpse of your ex’s annoyed face before the door shut. Dropping Jimin’s arm, you allowed for him to walk freely now that you two were away from the enemy’s stare. He, however, picked up your arm again and linked it back with his. “Jimin, you don’t have to---”
“---we’re going to be late for our next class. You’re always strolling and getting lost, let me walk you there.” His fingers crawled down your wrist to intertwine them with yours.
Your bottom lip escaped underneath your top row of pearly whites and a soft pink danced across your cheeks. You were afraid of being alone, wandering the halls on your own. Your ex-boyfriend always escorted you to your classes, to the point where you didn’t really know how to get there yourself. “Lead the way, Park Jimin.”
The stress was minimal for Jimin. You never pushed him past his comfort zone or made him do anything he didn’t want to. The deal was almost over, the week ending soon.
The experience left Jimin with a bittersweet feeling. It was a sneak peak to a future with you, but at the same time he knew you felt nothing. In no way would you look at him the same way he looked at you. Jimin was hopelessly in love with a girl who was hung up on her ex-boyfriend.
He lost sleep during the week, up all night replaying every small moment. He over analyzed every situation, racking his brain and shaking his heart. He searched for any sign that he meant more than a friend. Nevertheless, you were a great actress.
“Thank you for helping me with this strange favor.” You and Jimin held hands, basking in the high afternoon sun. “Not only has he become a jealous brat, but I think I’ve started to get over him. That’s all because of you.”
“That’s good. I’m happy I could be there to help. I’m always here, (Y/N), you know that.” Jimin clenched his words.
Tilting your head, you pouted. “What are we going to do after this? You do realize we have to make our break up believable.”
“I’ll sleep with twice as many girls as before to fill my emptiness of you.” Jimin smirked to mask his sulking heart.
“Oh! I’ll immerse myself in school work because I’m so torn up by two consecutive break ups.” You clapped excitedly, thinking your follow up plan was fool proof.
Jimin seemed uneasy, but nodded along. Just as you were about to ask if he was okay, your ex-boyfriend strutted angrily toward you two. “You two are faking it this entire time. I knew it! I saw through your act. You almost got me, (Y/N). You almost had me believing that you two were dating.”
Hiding behind Jimin, you tried to debunk his accusations. “I-I-We’re together. Why can’t you accept that? I was able to allow you to be happy with your new girl, but you didn’t let us live every since you found out.” Your voice was loud, but your body shielded away.
There was no way he could’ve knew. The only people that was aware of the plan was you and Jimin. Maybe your act wasn’t good enough.
“Quit it, dude. I’ve had it up to here with you. You’ve hurt her far too much. Leave us alone.” Jimin shoved his shoulder aggressively, you winced at the sight.
He wasn’t bugging though, “it’s more surprising knowing you agreed to her tricks. Have you lost your senses, Jimin?”
“What do you need for us to show you were actually dating?” You asked.
Your ex gleamed with a devilish grin, “kiss. From what I see is that you two only hold hands and hug. I want to see you two kiss, on the lips.”
You rolled your eyes, secretly scared. “That’s so middle school behavior. We’re taking it slow. We don’t want to ruin our first kiss together just because you’re forcing us to.”
Jimin blinked nervously at you, he remained tense at the mention of a kiss. “Then I don’t believe you. You’ll break up after today and think that you’ve made me jealous. To only realized that you’ve failed and I’m laughing at how hard you tried.”
“Fine. We’ll show you.” You tugged at Jimin to face you, breaking his frozen trance. “Kiss me, Jimin.” You said through gritted teeth, your eyes pleading him to do so.
Jimin gulped, and looked back between your eyes and your lips. “Just do it.” You tried edging him, but he wouldn’t budge.
“I’m waiting.” Your ex-boyfriend taunted, picking arrogantly at his nails.
“I can’t.” Jimin blurted and a laugh from the asshole followed. Dropping Jimin’s hand, you stared at the floor in disbelief.
“Nice job, (Y/N). Even your pretend boyfriend doesn’t want to kiss you. I’ll be going now, you lovebirds.” His laugh continued to rattle your rib cage. Jimin reopened the freshly patched wound in your heart, dumping salt into the flesh.
Jimin couldn’t kiss you, not because he didn’t want to, but because he was scared to. His feelings would’ve acted before him and he wouldn’t be able to control himself if he kissed you. He’d never want to let you go, only more.
He’d fall greedy into keeping you, even if you didn’t feel the same. But the deal was meant for a week, not for eternity. Jimin needed you to be free and things to go back to how it use to be, where you were his friend and he loved you from afar.
Even if the small kiss meant nothing to you, it meant the world to him. He has imagined multiple scenarios when you two shared such an intimate connection, all the times made him itch. Jimin didn’t feel sufficient enough to kiss you. He wasn’t the best kisser and you deserved the best. He had flaws that he couldn’t overcome to be with you.
It all piled up over the years, turning into mountains that he could no longer leap over. His insecurities left him drowning, and prevented him from pursuing you. There was a reason why you didn’t like him back, even though you’ve never explicitly said it. There was something that stopped you from liking him.
He thought it was your boyfriend, that you were so in love with someone else that you couldn’t see anyone else besides him. That meant blaming you when he saw every flaw in the mirror. It was him. Jimin, too, was not the best you needed. He loved you so much that you became untouchable. He valued you so much that you became unimaginable. He just couldn’t let him spiral out of control, locked in a frenzy over actions that shouldn’t matter.
That was his second mistake. Jimin, unconsciously, thought of himself before your feelings. Your figure was slowly disappearing into the horizon as it hurried away from him. His feet were planted on the ground, not allowing him to move.
He was calling your name, but no sound came out. Other students passed by with concerned and shocked faces. Jimin panicked, knowing he had hurt his one true love, the person who means everything to him.
It took a push to get him going, a careless boy who wasn’t looking at the path in front of him. Jimin lunged forward, in hopes to catch up with your already gone silhouette.
You’ve once mentioned that your dorm was your favorite hiding spot. It was the realm of your tears and comfort. It separated the outside world and any dangers that it held. Your dorm was a confined space of your heart --- you didn’t hold back any feelings in there. He knew he’d find you there.
He was running at the speed of light. Jimin was in track during high school and had killer speed in the sprint division. There was nothing stopping him once he’s in motion. He jogged up your stairs and pounded heavily on the door.
“(Y/N).. please open up.” He panted, gasping for air now that his heart was fluctuating beats. Jimin leaned over the door, his fist knocking periodically.
He heard your sniffs and cursed at himself for being the reason behind them. Jimin had no intentions of hurting you. He predicted that he would be the one hurt in the end of everything. “I want to explain. Give me five minutes, you’ll understand why I couldn’t kiss you---”
Jimin jotted forward as door flung open. He caught himself before he toppled over your shaking body. Wet cheeks and a pout painted your sad face. Your eyebrows were knitted at the center, “you couldn’t or you didn’t want to?”
He almost began crying right there. You only had to look at him to strip him of his layers. Your eyes ripped through his skin and exposed his rapidly pulsating heart that refused to calm down at the sight of you. “I couldn’t.”
“Jimin, save it. I don’t want to hear your lame excuse about how you couldn’t kiss me. You didn’t want to, I get it. You resent me for pushing you past your comfort zone, but you didn’t have to embarrass me like that. We had a deal and I wished you upheld it like you promised.” More tears slipped down your face. It resembled an earlier memory of when you first asked him of the favor, how you showed up a crying mess over your breakup at Jimin’s door. Now you were crying over Jimin.
His small fingers gripped the ends of his hoodie, his knuckles turning white. “I didn’t mean to hurt you like that. I wasn’t thinking about how it would affect you---”
“---yeah because no one ever thinks about how I feel. No one cares about my feelings, since when did I matter? Right? Well you and everyone else are wrong. Whatever pain you feel, I feel twice as harder because I’m the girl who struggled with loving herself for the past years just to be brought back to square one. The guy who helped me through my insecurities left me and for the reason I feared the most --- I wasn’t good enough. I am not wanted, nor am I loved and it is all because of me. He left me for her because I wasn’t enough and she was better.”
“I love you, (Y/N)! I love you so much, don’t you ever say that you’re not. Because I am that one person who loves you more than you could imagine.” Jimin shouted, his vision blurred by puddles that dare to fall.
Stunned, you tried to dismiss what he meant. It wasn’t romantic, Jimin was your friend. He always said things like this to console you. “I’m not talking about friendship love, Jimin.”
“I’m not either. How --- I don’t know --- how do I explain it, (Y/N)? Do you know the story about the moon and the sun?” Jimin was having a hard time expressing his feelings. He wasn’t good with his words when it came to you, which was a huge contributor to why he never confessed. Every contour of your expression caused his tongue to knot up and his words to slur.
You shook your head, your face remaining blank. He sighed heavily, gulping harshly. He began with a soft voice, “the sun loved the moon so much that he died every night to let her breathe. I’m the sun and you’re my moon. I held back for so long, still am, for you. You deserve to breathe and I could only hope that you’re shining well in the night sky. We’d never cross paths to where I could take care of you, but I could still watch over your happiness and that was enough for me.”
“Jimin, I never knew---” You started to defend yourself now that you understood the situation. You hated yourself, mainly for ever asking him of the favor.
“You weren’t suppose to. I never decided to tell you because the news would be burdening and my sick, fragile heart wouldn’t be able to take the rejection. I restricted myself to limits, so my feelings wouldn’t grow. I slept with other people to try to get over you. Nothing worked in the end. I’ve loved you ever since sophomore year and my heart grew so attached to your meaningless efforts.” He left you completely speechless. All this time you’ve been hurting him.
“You’re more than enough to me, (Y/N). I even compared you to the fucking moon, a precious rock in space that manages to light up my entire dark night. I couldn’t kiss you because I couldn’t let myself become greedy. I knew I wouldn’t be able to let you go after the deal if we did. It’s like my emotions will grow arms and latch on to something I don’t deserve. As much as I wanted to, I couldn’t do that to you. I love you too much to corrupt you.”
“To be in love with someone is a lot, Jimin.” Your chest was accompanied with a burning sensation, but your mind wasn’t soaking in his confession.
“Trust me, I know.” He groaned. You two stood facing each other, still at the cross walk between two realms. The hallway was empty, but was filled with a light buzzing noise from the fluorescent lights above.
After it all, Jimin’s heart remained heavy and now, so was your’s.

Since your days as a middle schooler in Busan, you and Jimin didn’t really share a friendly rivalry. But a certain calico cat makes your paths cross again

He then bitterly chuckles.

-I maaaay be really inaccurate with their professions but like bear with me here lol
-A lil angst
but
Fluff? Fluff. Short entry for @nightbts writing contest!
As you opened the door to the veranda, you sighed a cloud of white as you shivered from the early cold morning while clutching onto a hot cup of coffee. The neighborhood buildings as well as the flower pots and the nearby bicycles yet untouched for the day were all dyed in light orange from the sunrise. You breathed in the fresh crisp air and enjoyed the scenery when all of a sudden you heard a chuckle.
“You tryin’ to film a movie or something?”
You closed your eyes to revel in the pleasant air for just a little while longer. And then you turned to the source of the evil here to ruin your morning...yet again.
“Good morning to you, Park Jimin,” you grumbled as you tried to force a civil smile (but to no avail) to the guy leaning against the next veranda to your left.
It had been 6 months since you moved to Seoul, the heart of Korea. And it had been 6 months since you became neighbors with your archnemesis since middle school in Busan, Jimin. Park Jimin was the guy who stole your spotlight since middle school. Your parents, your teachers, and your friends were all smitten by him– him and his “creativity handed to him by God”. He took 1st place in just about everything- all the art contests your school could possibly hold, social life, and even academics. But you didn’t quite care much. He was the ingenious kid who was born to stand out, and frankly, you just wanted to enjoy the quiet student life in lieu of the bustling nature of being surrounded by the mass- or so you deeply ingrained in your heart. When Jimin was accepted into the top art university in Seoul, however, you failed to contain the jealousy you had for him. One day, I’ll be in my own place where I belong. Geniuses have it easy.
But several years later, you felt your dignity crumble as your neighbor happened to be that same Park Jimin, and that same Park Jimin happened to be working at a very famous spatial design company as an architect while you were working in a small and humble interior design firm. You really, really did not want anything to do with him after high school, but alas, fate was a cruel thing, was it not?
He seemingly didn’t change at all. His aura flaunted with confidence– rather, cockiness, and his flamboyant appearance and persona seemed to match that of his in high school. Except with time, he seemed to also grow a shadow of an adult, and as much as you hate to admit, he exuded maturity, but to everything and everyone other than you, it seems. He was so nice to the landlady of your apartment, helping her with fixing broken things around the apartment or help the elderly man who lived 4 doors down walk down the stairs. And yet, when it comes to you, he fails to lose the impertinent childish demeanor. But you were also equally as petty– maybe all the comparisons to him and you since middle school did take a toll on you.
And now, with your proximity closer than ever, you had to deal with the silent taunting that came from the occupant of the veranda next to you.
You side-eye him to see his smug look at you.
God. I hate him so much.
You hurry and head back inside to get ready for work.
But as it was, you weren’t having a field day at work either.
“Miss Y/N, you are never going to make it if you keep this up,” your boss sighs as she crinkles her nose and massages her temples. She was reviewing some ideas you came up with for a client, and clearly she wasn’t happy with it.
“I’m so sorry ma’am, but I–”
“Clearly this shows how much of an amateur you are. Our clients aren’t looking for something like this,” she waves to the file you handed her.
“This demonstrates your lack of ability to think outside the box. It’s like you grew up in a bubble. Now, bring me an actual plan next time.”
“
Yes, ma’am,” you mutter as you look down to the floor.
Your co-workers stare at you- some in pity, and some in relief it wasn’t them. At this point, you just wanted to give up and throw everything away but rent and paying back art school fees were actually a thing in life.
If the day couldn’t get any worse, as you start to head home, cold drops started to precipitate, and exponentially increased its speed.
Shit.
You didn’t bring your umbrella with you because you were too preoccupied with that damn Park Jimin to check the weather forecast.
Dammit Park Jimin this is all your fault.
As you cursed him you proceed to helplessly run, getting drenched in the freezing autumn rain anyways.
“God, I’m fucking freezing,” you shivered as you try to reach for your keys to open your door.
While you were desperately fumbling for your keys, you suddenly hear a soft whimper from below. You look down to look at the source of the sound, and next to the residue of rain dripping from your body was a small, shivering tri-color cat. You admire its coat of orange, black, and white as well as its exquisite green eyes but you found a color that did not belong. Your eyes widen at the sight of the color red.
“Oh, you poor thing, you’re bleeding!”
You bend down to the cat to check on it. It seemed like the cat could not move.
“Okay, let’s get you inside.”
You opened the door, and carefully carried the cat inside.
After you hastened to dry yourself, you placed the cat on top of a warm blanket, and proceeded to check more on it.
“Okay, it just looks like a scratch. The rain probably shocked you, huh?”
You gently swabbed at the wound with cotton wet with warm water, and the cat flinched. It weakly whimpered, gently moving its shaking paw towards you to signal its pain.
“I’m sorry. It’s gonna be over soon, just bear with me, okay?” You pet the cat softly as you try to reassure it.
After making sure the wound was cleaned, you carefully wrapped a bandage around the wound.
“There. You should be better soon!”
The cat purred in relief, and licked your hand myriad amount of times in gratitude.
“That tickles!” You giggle. You felt a heavy burden lift off your chest as your eyes soften at the cat.
You suddenly hear a ring from your bedroom.
“Oh, that’s my phone. Be right back, okay?”
After you took care of your phone call, you headed back to check up on the cat again. But there was no said cat.
“Huh?”
You looked around the entire living room. There was no sign of the calico cat.
“Huh, did it really just up and leave?”
You looked around your entire apartment twice and finally accepted that it left.
Hmm. Guess it’s fine now. Hopefully it’ll stay safe.
You scan the living room one more time and left to finish drying off.
Jimin sighs as he climbs up the stairs to his apartment. His face felt stiff from smiling the same smile for 5 hours straight at a company social dinner. Sure, he had it all– good connections, good position
but does he really have to sit in the same room with those arrogant ass middle-aged men? Those same men that mocked him with jealousy behind the scenes for being young and successful simultaneously? All he wanted was to go home, take a shower, plop on his bed and sleep. He stopped in front of his door only to be guested with a stranger.
A calico cat.
“Hmm? It’s
a cat. Haven’t seen you around here.”
The cat pleadingly meowed at him.
“Oh, you were injured
and someone took care of you, eh? But you look like you are starving though. Lemme give you something, hold on.”
Jimin then let the cat inside his abode, and he searched his fridge something soft for cats. He prepared a meal for the cat by warming up some chicken broth and crumbling pieces of bread. He set it in a bowl and placed it gently next to the cat and waited for him to eat. The cat’s pearly green eyes glittered and started nibbling quickly on the food.
“Wow, you really must have been hungry, huh,” Jimin chuckled.
Jimin stared at the cat whilst petting its royal coat of fur.
“A calico cat has three colors.”
He then bitterly chuckles.
“It’s funny. I do art for a living, but I see more colors in you than in my life.”
He then gets up, and stretches.
“Mm. I’m gonna go take a real quick shower– I really need one. Finish that up, okay?”
The cat meowed in response.
Jimin heads to the bathroom, and proceeds to take off his clothes when he turned on the water. But after an extended amount of time, the water wasn’t getting warm.
“Fuck
”
Jimin changes back into his clothes and rushes out of the bathroom.
“I gotta call the landlady– huh?”
Jimin expected the cat to still be eating the food, but instead, he found no cat and he found a completely clean bowl.
“Well. He ate that fast and he just left, didn’t he? Oh well, as long as he is fed, I guess. More importantly, the water
”
And Jimin hurriedly looked for his phone.
The next morning, you were rudely awakened by a knock on the door.
“
But it’s my day off today,” you grumble half conscious.
But the knocking incessantly continued. You reluctantly get up, pat down your hair, and trudge towards the door.
To your surprise, it was the landlady– together with Park Jimin.
“Um. Good Morning, Y/N,” the landlady hesitantly started.
“Oh, hello. What happened?”
The landlady was a fairly kind lady who usually hated intruding upon her own tenants aside from giving them occasional home cooked side dishes or cupcakes. She was that kind of lady. And when she happened to intrude upon her tenants like this, it was usually either a problem in the apartment or rent. You payed rent this month– it was most probably the former.
“Y/N, I’m so sorry to ask you this, but Jimin’s water heater has broken. Would you mind having him stay over for a while? It seems like they can’t fix it until next Tuesday, and most of the other tenants aren’t here over the weekend,” the landlady apologetically asks.
You and Jimin looked at each other.
He leans on your door, indifferently waiting for your response.
Reasonable desires to reject his stay bubbled up to the horizon- until you saw the landlady look at you in desperate hopes you’ll say otherwise.
“Listen. You. Will sleep on the sofa.” You succinctly hissed to Jimin while he pushed his bags inside.
“Fair enough.”
Jimin immediately swished passed you and plopped on the sofa.
“I’m only going to stay here to sleep and take a shower here for a couple of days. I’m busy after all.”
“Are you implying that I’m not?” You scoffed.
Jimin looked at you with his eyebrows raised.
“Nah. Just thought, you’d appreciate me not being here often.”
You paused your inner rage for a short second. Where was his usual rudeness?
“Oh
well no I–”
“By the way, do you have food in your fridge? I’m starving. Or do you usually get take-out? Mind getting something for me? I pulled an all-nighter last night and didn’t eat dinner.”
Ah. There it is.
You exhale in exasperation. This was going to be a very long couple of days

True to his words, the next day, he was barely in your presence. This only served to fuel your irritation more since it screamed out the comparison between the difference of working status between the two of you.
You sighed for what seemed like the hundredth sigh and take out your laptop.
“Well. People who aren’t geniuses have to work hard. I’m busy too, y’know,” you spoke to a non-existent shadow of Jimin you conjured.
Jimin came back home at around the evening, but he came back earlier than you had since you went to the market to get groceries.
You come back to see Jimin making himself at home while he munches on a bag of chips on the sofa while watching some kind of variety show.
“Oh. Welcome home. Did you happen to get the groceries I asked you to get?”
“Yes. I did,” you grunt as you struggle to put the groceries down on the kitchen table.
“Oh? You did?” His eyes widen.
You close your eyes in frustration. His surprise in his completion of his request irritated you more than the request itself.
“Jimin– as much as I honestly dislike you, you’re still a guest. And as long as you are a guest, I have to make sure your stay here is damn great, 10/10 would recommend. Okay?”
Jimin stares at you for what seemed like years. His face stilled until it finally broke out into a wide grin.
And that was the moment your heart skipped a beat.
What
the hell? Nuh-uh. No way. No way in hell did I just think he was-
“Okay. Then in order to make my stay great, 10/10, you wanna join me?”
He pats on the seat of the sofa next to him.
“This show’s really funny.”
“Huh? But I have to make din–”
“Please? For a guest?”
Ohhh shit. What have I done?
You could not focus on the show at all. The parts you did listen to were all drowned out by his laughter. But you were just mainly confused to why you were watching this with him. You stared at Jimin who was so busily invested in the show. And you wondered- who really was Park Jimin? The more you thought about it, the more it became a wonder. You didn’t really know much about him after all. The way his cheeks touched his eyes as he laughed made you feel something. It was less closer to the irritation that you felt for him during the past few years.
The entire time was awkward- at least for you. And you felt your fatigue hit you as you yawned. You quickly cover your mouth hoping that Jimin didn’t notice, but it seemed like you were too late as Jimin started snickering.
“You tired?”
“Yeah– cause of somebody. It’s getting late, I should start preparing–”
“Lemme do it.”
“Huh?” Your eyes widen in shock.
“I know how to cook. I’ve been living by myself for quite a while now. Besides, I was the one who made you watch it with me. There are no rules that guests can’t pay their price, right?”
He smirks at your speechlessness. “Pasta, right? I saw the groceries earlier. I’ll have you know– I make one hell of a pasta.”
You couldn’t help but smile at that.
And as it turns out, and as much as you begrudgingly admit- he did make a hell of a good pasta.
Your time with Jimin turned out to be more enjoyable than you were willing to admit. He cooked for you when he could, and when he couldn’t he at least helped you. Pretty soon, it was just natural for you to take the spot next to him in the sofa and watch his favorite comedic variety show. Your laughs had echoed his.
But one day, you came home to find the room dim.
Huh. Guess he’s coming home late tonight.
And you convinced yourself that you felt relieved because you also felt another emotion that you didn’t feel like addressing.
You were in your bedroom working on a project idea at 2 AM when all of a sudden you hear the door unlock.
I’m just gonna check if he ate dinner.
You told yourself that as you made your way out to the living room. And you were surprised to see a Jimin leaning next to the door. His head was resting on the wall but the rest of his body was slumped, and it seemed that his body was slowly reaching the ground by the second.
“Ohhhh heyyyy Y/N. Wow, you still up?”
“God, are you drunk Jimin? How much did you drink?” You quickly run up to him and support him up by pulling his arm around you.
“Hmmm? Not much I dun think? Just a couple of shots with those smelly assholes,” Jimin slurred as he smiled.
“Just a couple shots, huh. Okay, let’s just get you to bed, kay?”
You manage your best to get him to the sofa. Your arms nearly give out as you release him on the couch.
“Actually, you want to go to my bed? I can–”
Jimin quickly grabs your hand.
“No. It’s okay. Just stay for a minute.”
“O-Oh. Um
okay.”
He inhales and exhales while still gripping your hand.
“I’m tired. Honestly
I’m so tired. Those jealous ass fucking higher-ups. Geniuses don’t get tired, they say. Who the hell are you to tell me I don’t work hard just as much as you do?”
A pang of guilt pierces your heart.
“
Jimin
”
He bitterly chuckles. “Yeah. I know you think that too. But I feel like shit. Like every human does. Cause you know what? I’m human too. But you
But you
” Jimin mutters.
You quietly clutch his hand. You couldn’t say anything- you didn’t really know what to say.
After a few moments, you heard a constant of breathing. You found that Jimin was fast asleep.
You felt your eyes hot with tears.
I’m such a fucking terrible person.
Your hands shake as you squeeze Jimin’s warm hands.
“I’m so, so sorry, Jimin.”
Jimin awoke to a heavy pang to his head. He crinkled his eyes to the unwelcoming sunlight. He found himself toppled with more blankets than he remembered.
Jimin rubbed his eyes and slowly became more aware of his surroundings.
Next to him was a cup of water, some aspirin, and a note that says, “There is breakfast I made in the kitchen.”
Jimin stared at the note for a while before everything hit him all at once.
“Shit
”
When you got home, you found Jimin on the sofa. He was startled by your entrance, and he uncharacteristically fidgeted and became hesitant on what to say.
His cheeks were tinged with pink, and you swore to make sure that you save the image in the archives of your memory.
“Um. Hey, Y/N. You’re back.”
“Oh
hey. Um. Yeah, I’m back.”
A breeze of awkwardness flowed between the two of you, and both of you were stammering to keep the conversation going.
“Hey! So. Apparently they are almost finished fixing my water heater. They should be finished by tomorrow afternoon. Aren’t you glad?”
“
Oh. Tomorrow’s already Tuesday, huh.”
Not met with the reaction he expected, Jimin came to a loss of what to say.
And after a very, very long pause-
“Sorry.”
Both of your eyes widen– both of you had simultaneously apologized to each other.
“Why are you apologizing?”
“Wait, why are you?”
Both of you stared at each other for a moment, and started laughing hysterically at how ridiculous it sounded.
“Oh God, we’re so weird,” you sigh between your giggles.
“Yeah, we definitely are,” he agreed.
And at that moment, the two of you hear a very familiar “meow”.
You turn to the source of the sound.
And a very familiar calico cat stares at the two of you with its very familiar pearly green eyes and white tail.
“Hey, that cat!” Jimin echoes your thoughts.
“You know that cat too?”
“Yeah, I fed it once. Were you the one that gave it that bandage?”
“Yeah, I did. Where did it come from though? Oh wait, where is it going?”
The cat turns around and turns to the two of you again.
“Oh, does it want us to follow it?”
And the cat swiftly turns. You and Jimin both try to follow it, only to stop in front of the veranda.
“Huh? The veranda? But where did the cat go?” Jimin questions.
You quietly open the door to the veranda- and you and Jimin were greeted with quite the surprise.
The dark sky spreaded with a myriad number of stars, each shining with their own dignity. It was a view that took the breath out of both you and Jimin, as the two of you had your jaws open and eyes never wanting to leave the wondrous view of the diamonds adorning the sky.
“Hey. I’m really sorry for my preconception of you,” you started.
“Hmm?” Jimin looked at you, puzzled.
“Last night, I realized that I’ve been such a terrible person. I didn’t realize my own jealousy was clouding my judgment to see you for who you are.”
Jimin stared at you for a while before grinning at you.
“You don’t remember, do you?”
He looked back at the stars.
“It was during high school, and there was a certain art contest.”
In your junior year of high school, the pieces of the said art contest were posted in the hallway.
And well, Jimin was first place, and you were second. You didn’t have any qualms against that; it was what it was. So you silently nod, and was about to head back to class when you heard a scoff.
“So
you aren’t angry? Annoyed by the slightest?”
You turn around to see Park Jimin. He had an expression of chagrin, and you were puzzled as to why. Shouldn’t he be happy if he were first place?
You raise your eyebrows. After a moment, you just sigh.
“Not even in the slightest,” you state, and you walk away.
“
Huh. I
don’t really remember.” You crinkle your eyebrows at the distant memory. Jimin chuckles.
“Yeah. Before, I was content that I was being called a genius with such emptiness. But at that moment, I realized how powerless I really was. I was only human, and a human with an inflated ego.”
He looked at you endearingly.
“People called me genius, but you were the first one to treat me like a human,”
He sheepishly smiles. “And I was really desperate to catch your attention.”
And this Park Jimin, the slightly awkward man that is standing right next to you, was perhaps the Jimin he desperately wanted you to meet. And he didn’t really know how to so all he could do was act like a boy who teased a girl because he liked her. After all, you bet, he never had to do the approaching– he was always approached. Both of you just needed some kind of push to become honest with your feelings.
The two of you stood close to each other. On normal days, he would stand in the next veranda, making teasing remarks at you and you would steam fury in response. But tonight, things were different. He was standing next to you, in the same veranda, and the two of you were ever so close you swear you could hear each other’s heartbeats.
You smiled. You no longer denied that your heart was indeed beating way faster than normal for no one other than Park Jimin. And that emotion that you have tried to deny for the past couple of days were closer to blooming than being extinguished.
“You know, I want to understand you better, Jimin.”
“Really? Then, maybe we can go out on a date? I mean, if you want to, of course,” Jimin shyly asks. His cheeks turn rosy as he gives you the signature eye smile he was always so popular for. You scoffed at it when you were younger. But this time, you just might fall for it.
“Sure. I would like that,” you softly say.
And when the close proximity between the two of you reached zero as your lips touched his, a shooting star flashed quickly in the background.
“You know, we could film a movie like this,” Jimin sneakily whispers.
You laugh as you slap his arm jokingly.
You ended up spending the entire night on the veranda, and saw the sunrise greet you. You and Jimin were wrapped together tightly in a blanket, and defeated the cold autumn morning air. You saw the landlady walking down and you waved to her.
But for a moment, you think you see a familiar white tail.
Hmm?
But as you rub your eyes again, the image of it was gone and you see the landlady wave back. You blame your lack of sleep as you smile and slowly close your eyes and drift off to your dreams.
Calico Cats bring good luck.
